Blatant Misreading
Blatant Misreading is a podcast where we take academic and political theory somewhere it was never meant to go: popular culture. In each episode, hosts Margie Tang-Oxley and Aaron Posner analyse a movie or TV show with a piece of theory that is, at best, kind of misapplied. Of course we all want an analysis of class dynamics in "Parasite," but we'll leave something that makes that much sense to the pros! We'll be over here applying Noam Chomsky to "Paddington 2."

Episode 4 - Queer Eye and Allegory of the Cave

Blatant Misreading
In this episode we discuss Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" and Season 5 Episode 1 of Queer Eye. We first take a look at an interpretation the cave as a description of queer representation in media versus actual modern day queer spaces and dialogues. Then we discuss in more detail the episode of Queer Eye which centers around a gay evangelical christian pastor and how him and the “fab five” are represented. We eat cornbread in celebration of the pastor’s southern roots and joke about how the fab five are teaching him to be a better proselytizer.
