Luisa writes,

I continue in the same state, and maybe even worse, though I do as much as I can to remain peaceful, without getting disturbed, because so obedience wants.  But in spite of this I do not cease to feel the weight of the abandonment that presses upon me and reaches the point of crushing me.  Oh, God, what state is this?  Tell me at least:  where have I offended You?  What is the cause of it? Ah, Lord, if You want to continue this way, I think I will not be able to endure any more!

Then, He made Himself seen for just a little, and placing a hand under my chin in the act of compassionating me, told me:  “Poor daughter, how you have reduced yourself!”  And sharing His pains with me, He disappeared like lightning, leaving me more afflicted than before, as if He had not come.  Or rather, I feel as if He had not come for a long time, and I feel such affliction, that though I live, my living is a continuous agonizing.  Ah, Lord, lend me help, and do not leave me in abandonment, though I deserve it.

Welcome. This is David Russell in Your Faith A New. Daily Reflections guiding you to live in the divine will. Today's reflection is from the Book of Heaven by the servant of God Louisa Picaretta, may thirteenth, nineteen hundred, volume three. Let us begin in the will and name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Lord Jesus, in moments when your presence feels hidden and our souls are burdened by sorrow, teach us to trust in your loving providence. Give us the grace to remain peaceful and faithful even in spiritual darkness. May we never lose hope in your mercy, and may every trial draw us more deeply into union with your divine will. Strengthen all souls who feel abandoned, afflicted, or weary, and let them discover that you are nearest in the very moments when you seem most silent. Amen. Saint Peter writes in his first letter, chapter five, verses six to seven. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches in paragraph one sixty four. Now, however, we walk by faith, not by sight. We perceive God as in a mirror, dimly, and only in part, even though enlightened by him in whom it believes, faith is often lived in darkness and can be put to the test. The world we live in often seems very far from the one promised us by faith. Before we enter today's reading, we're invited to remember that periods of darkness and abandonment do not mean that God has withdrawn his love. Often, these moments become hidden invitations to deeper trust, surrender, and perseverance within the divine will. Louisa writes I continue in the same state, and maybe even worse, though I do as much as I can to remain peaceful without getting disturbed, because so obedience wants. But in spite of this, I do not cease to feel the weight of the abandonment that presses upon me and reaches the point of crushing me. Oh God, what state is this? Tell me at least, where have I offended you? What is the cause of it? Ah, Lord, if you want to continue this way, I think I will not be able to endure any more. Then he made himself seen for just a little, and placing a hand under my chin in the act of compassionating me, told me poor daughter, how you have reduced yourself. In sharing his pains with me, he disappeared like lightning, leaving me more afflicted than before as if he had not come. Or rather, I feel as if he had not come for a long time, and I feel such affliction that though I live, my living is a continuous agonizing. Ah Lord, lend me help and do not leave me in abandonment, though I deserve it. Today's reading brings us into one of the deepest experiences of the spiritual life, the apparent silence and hiddenness of God. Louisa feels crushed beneath abandonment. Even while striving to remain peaceful in obedience, she experiences intense interior suffering and questions why Jesus seems distant. Yet this passage reveals an important truth for souls living in the divine will. The absence of sensible consolation does not mean the absence of God. Often, Jesus works most profoundly in silence. He purifies the soul of dependence upon feelings and teaches it to love him with pure faith. Notice that even in her agony, Louisa continues striving to remain peaceful because obedience asks it of her. This fidelity and darkness becomes a hidden act of love more precious than many visible sacrifices. Jesus appears only briefly, sharing his compassion with her, yet even this fleeting moment becomes enough to sustain her. Many souls experience seasons where prayer feels dry, where God seems distant, or where suffering appears overwhelming. In these moments, the temptation is to believe we have been forgotten. But the divine will invites us to remain faithful even without emotional reassurance. True trust is born precisely when we continue loving God in darkness. Jesus did not rebuke Louisa for her weakness. Instead, he compassionated her. This reveals the tenderness of Christ toward suffering souls. He sees every hidden struggle, every tear, every act of perseverance that no one else notices. For those living in the divine will, abandonment becomes transformed into trust. Even when we cannot feel his presence, we can still say, Jesus, I believe you are here. I abandon myself completely into your will. This simple act becomes a profound offering of love and faith. Let us pray. Jesus, in moments when my soul feels lonely and burdened, teach me to trust in your hidden presence. When darkness surrounds me and prayer feels empty, keep my heart faithful to your divine will. Lord, give me strength to persevere when I do not understand your ways. Help me remain peaceful in obedience and steadfast in love, even when consolation disappears. Compassionate Jesus, place your hand beneath my chin as you did for Louisa. Lift my soul when it feels crushed beneath sorrow and discouragement. Remind me that you are near even in silence and that no suffering endured in union with you is ever wasted. May every trial purify my love and draw me into deeper surrender. Teach me to abandon myself completely into your will, trusting that your mercy is guiding me even through darkness. Amen. Thank you for joining your faith anew today. If you are walking through a season of spiritual dryness or suffering, remember that Jesus has not abandoned you. The hidden work of God often takes place in silence, where faith becomes purified and trust grows stronger. Until tomorrow, stay in His will, and your faith will be made anew.
