July 17, 1900 – Volume 3

Luisa writes,

Having received Communion, I did not see blessed Jesus as I usually do. Then, after waiting for a long time, I felt I was going outside of myself and I found Him. As I saw Him, He said to me: “Daughter, I was waiting for you to be able to rest a little bit in you, for I cannot take any more. O please, give Me a relief!”

Immediately I took Him in my arms to content Him, and I saw that He had a deep wound on His shoulder, which aroused compassion and repugnance at the sight. So He rested for a few minutes, and then, after that brief rest, I looked and I saw that that wound was almost healed. So, amid amazement and stupefaction, and seeing Him more relieved, I plucked up courage and I said to Him: ‘Blessed Lord, my poor heart is tormented by a fear – that You do not love me any more. I fear I have incurred your indignation and this is why You no longer come as before, You do not pour your bitternesses into me, and you no longer give me my good, which is suffering; and by denying this to me, You come to deny me Yourself. O please! Give peace to a poor heart! Tell me, assure me, swear to me – do You love me? Do You continue loving me?’ And He: “Yes, yes, yes, I love you.” And I: ‘How can I be sure of this, since when one really loves somebody, whatever he wants one gives him? But I say to You: “Do not chastise the people”, and You chastise them. “Pour your bitternesses [into me]”, and You do not pour them; on the contrary, it seems that this time You are going too far. So, how can I rely on your loving me?’ And He: “My daughter, you take into account the chastisements I send, but those which I hold back you take into no account. How many more chastisements I would have sent, how many more slaughters, and how much more blood I would have caused to be shed, if I had no regard for those few who love Me, and whom I love with a special love?”

Then, after this, it seemed that Jesus set on His way to go there where slaughters of human flesh were occurring. I wanted to follow Him, but it was not given to me to do it, and to my highest sorrow I found myself inside myself.

Welcome. This is David Russell and your faith anew daily reflections guiding you to live in the divine will. Today's reflection is from the Book of Heaven by the servant of God Louisa Picaretta, july seventeenth, nineteen hundred, volume three. Let us begin in the will and name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Heavenly Father, grant us the grace to trust in your loving providence even when we cannot understand your ways. Help us to console the heart of Jesus by living faithfully in your divine will, confident that your mercy is always greater than our fears. May our lives become a source of rest for your sacred heart. Amen. A reading from the gospel according to John chapter fifteen, verses nine to eleven. As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be complete. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches in Paragraph three hundred fourteen. We firmly believe that God is master of the world and of its history. But the ways of His providence are often unknown to us. Only at the end, when our partial knowledge ceases, when we see God face to face, will we fully know the ways by which, even through the dramas of evil and sin, God has guided His creation to that definitive Sabbath rest for which He created heaven and earth. Today's passage reveals the hidden mercy that often remains unseen behind God's providence. Let us now listen with attentive hearts to today's passage from the Book of Heaven. Louisa writes Having received communion, I did not see blessed Jesus as I usually do. Then, after waiting for a long time, I felt I was going outside of myself, and I found him. As I saw him, he said to me, Daughter, I was waiting for you to be able to rest a little bit in you, for I cannot take any more. Oh please give me a relief. Immediately I took him in my arms to contend him, and I saw that he had a deep wound on his shoulder, which aroused compassion and repugnance at the sight. So he rested for a few minutes, and then, after that brief rest, I looked and I saw that that wound was almost healed. So amid amazement and stupefaction, and seeing him more relieved, I plucked up courage and I said to him, Blessed Lord, my poor heart is tormented by a fear that you do not love me any more. I fear I have incurred your indignation, and this is why you no longer come as before. You do not pour your bitternesses into me, and you no longer give me my good, which is suffering, and by denying this to me, you come to deny me yourself. Oh please, give peace to a poor heart. Tell me, assure me, swear to me, do you love me? Do you continue loving me? And he Yes, yes, yes, I love you. And I how can I be sure of this? Since when one really loves somebody, whatever he wants one gives him. But I say to you, do not chastise the people, and you chastise them. Pour your bitternesses into me, and you do not pour them. On the contrary, it seems that this time you are going too far. So how can I rely on your loving me? And he my daughter, you take into account the chastisements I send, but those which I hold back you take into no account. How many more chastisements I would have sent? How many more slaughters, and how much more blood I would have caused to be shed if I had no regard for those who love me, and whom I love with a special love? Then, after this, it seemed that Jesus set on his ways to go there where slaughters of human flesh were occurring. I wanted to follow him, but it was not given to me to do it, and to my highest sorrow I found myself inside myself. One of the greatest struggles of the spiritual life is believing that God still loves us when his actions seem difficult to understand. Louisa expresses a fear that many faithful souls have experienced. She measures his love by what she can perceive, while Jesus invites her to measure his love by what she cannot see. His answer is deeply consoling. He reminds her that she notices the chastisements he allows, but she does not see the countless chastisements his mercy has already prevented. God's love is often hidden, quietly restraining evils that never reach us because his providence has already intervened. This changes the way we look at our own lives. We sometimes focus on disappointments, illnesses, losses, or unanswered prayers while overlooking the innumerable graces, protections, inspirations, and dangers from which God has already delivered us. We thank him for the blessings we recognize, but how often do we thank him for those we never even knew existed? There is another beautiful lesson in today's reading. Jesus comes seeking rest. The creator of the universe desires to find consolation in a faithful soul. What a remarkable invitation. Whenever we surrender our own will and choose his, we become a place where Jesus finds rest. Every act performed in the divine will becomes a bomb upon his wounded heart. Every act of trust heals, consoles, and glorifies him. Living in the divine will also changes how we respond to the troubles of the world. Instead of becoming discouraged by violence, suffering, or uncertainty, we unite ourselves more deeply to Jesus. We allow him to pray, love, repair, and work through us. Our hidden acts of love become part of his continual work of mercy, obtaining graces for souls we may never meet. There will always be mysteries we cannot solve. Yet faith grows strongest when it trusts the goodness of God beyond what the eyes can see. As we strive to live in His divine will, we learn to say, Lord, I may not understand your providence, but I trust your love completely. Today, whenever uncertainty enters your heart, pause and simply whisper, Jesus, I trust the love I cannot yet see. Then let Jesus do what only He can do in that surrender, your soul becomes a resting place for Christ and an instrument through which his mercy quietly reaches the world. Let us pray. Lord Jesus, thank you for loving us even when we fail to recognize the countless ways you protect and guide our lives. Teach us to trust your providence more than our own understanding. May every thought, word, action, and suffering ordered in your divine will bring consolation to your sacred heart and obtain mercy for the whole world. Help us to become faithful souls in whom you find rest, always confident that your love is at work even when it remains unseen. We ask this in the power of your divine will and the name of Jesus Christ, amen. Thank you for joining your faith anew today. As you go about your day, remember that God's greatest mercies are often the ones you never witness. Until tomorrow, stay in his will, and your faith will be made anew.
