The Mandate of Heaven -- 天命

The Chinese people took millennia to learn the Mandate of Heaven. Yankee pragmatists and Euro Cartesians, you've had only a few hundred years of marginal awareness. Catch up fast.

On the whole, global and local leadership must be honest, problem solving, humane where possible, and respectful of ancient protocols. Humanity earns the Mandate of Heaven from their fanatical devotion to duty, service and self sacrifice. 

There is relative abundance, relative peace, relative security. The people "nurture life and mourn death in contentment" (Mencius, Mozi). The weather (with catastrophic exceptions) is mild. By weather, read vibrations from the cosmos; across the air, land and sea; to the core of the Earth and back again. Those vibrations can be predictable and friendly for humanity, or lethal if they stray in the slightest from this cozy arrangement. That is the Mandate of Heaven, as upheld by the people in charge.* 

How to lose the Mandate of Heaven? At all levels and with fewer and fewer exceptions, leadership defaults to corruption and self-gain destructive of everything and everyone else. Hypocritical, problem creators, cruel when possible, disrespectful of past practice; they fumble the Mandate of Heaven. 

Ruination, bankruptcy, local violence and foreign wars; from top to bottom no-one is safe. The people, victims of hunger, disease and despair, complain louder and louder. The Heavens unleash waves of energy beyond historic record, exponentially more catastrophic.

How to regain the Mandate of Heaven? Demote those who are cruel for profit and promote self sacrificial problem solvers. Society can do so consciously, by a crushing majority in peace and quickly so by means of wiser institutions. Or it can do so unconsciously, in warfare crime and rebellion, one by one hunted human across continents during thousands of years of unimaginable chaos, death and pain. Then the Mandate of Heaven goes into auto-pilot; it becomes a casino for fat whales to bet on the outcome of centuries of human ultra violence. 

Or the Mandate just flips the chess board, in frustration at our disobedience, microwaves this generation of Earth sentience with various energy vibrations, forgets us, and grows the next Terran living antenna, modulator and repeater. 

Plenty of DNA and time out there to start over.

Good or bad leaders are one in a thousand. They can just as easily be promoted to leadership or demoted to irrelevance, once the other 999 Learners understand how the Mandate of Heaven works.

Afterwards, other problems will shrink to manageable proportions. The weather, climate change and global heat death will moderate themselves as miraculously as heat deaths and tempest energies grew exponentially. Tectonics, cosmic alarms and solar flares will trade their wild glare with the older, friendlier expressions. The Earth stripped bare by war will heal itself by leaps and bounds of popular enthusiasm, direct action and straight-forward miracle. Social and natural goods will strengthen their weave in a social fabric of peace. The human world's best relationship with the Mandate of Heaven.

The mandate of heaven is simple. It has left its mark many times in written history. It is the practical expression of divine love for humanity -- the mirror of humanity's love. It can be a self-sustaining force for good or a devastating one if too many choose otherwise.
