Power Up Your VacDaddy: Introducing the NEW Battery

David Van Brunt Season 9 Episode 1803

Tired of wrestling with outlets and extension cords just to vacuum a pool? We dig into the new battery that turns the VacDaddy’s 55 GPM suction into a truly portable solution and lay out exactly where this tool shines: routine service, storm cleanups, shallow features, and green pool recoveries. Without sacrificing power, the battery removes the biggest friction point—finding a plug—while keeping what pros already love: bag-based debris capture that keeps fine dirt out of the customer’s filter system.

We break down real-world specs that matter on a route: roughly 15 pounds, about three hours to charge, and close to two hours of runtime at full power thanks to safer ternary lithium chemistry. That swap also streamlines the loadout by replacing heavier transformers, making weight nearly apples to apples and the workflow simpler. Then we go deeper into the VacDaddy’s modular design. The vacuum-to-waste adapter turns the unit into a focused cleanup pump in minutes, ideal for post-windstorm debris or settling after an algae treatment. A shallow water adapter unlocks fountains and water features by letting you submerge the unit and vacuum with a short hose and manual head.

If you’re ready to make your route faster and more flexible, give this breakdown a listen, share it with your team, and tell us where a portable 55 GPM vac would save you the most time. SPEAKER_00:

Hey, welcome to the Pool Grey Podcast Show. In this episode, I'm going to talk to you about the new VacDaddy battery. And if you're interested in the VacDaddy, they're always coming out with new accessories and new things for it to improve it and make it better. And this is one of the latest additions to the VacDaddy. Are you a Pool Service pro looking to take your business to the next level? Join the Pool Guy Coaching Program. Get expert advice, business tips, exclusive content, and get direct support from me. I'm a 35-year veteran in the industry. Whether you're starting out or scaling up, I've got the tools to help you succeed. Learn more at swimmingpoollearning.com. And the VacDaddy is a pretty interesting machine. It doesn't fit your typical category of vacuum systems, nor of the battery-operated kind of vacuums like the water tech vacuums, because it does have a cord and it does have more gallons per minute. So it is a pretty unique product. I think they promote it more like a vacuum system. However, it uses a manual vacuum head. So if you have pools with heavy debris, it's not going to be as effective as, say, like the bottom feeder or the riptide. But it does fit that middle category. You know, more powerful than your battery-operated cleaners, and then not quite as robust as the vacuum system as far as debris pickup. But it is a great way to replace the manual vacuuming of a pool with your traditional vacuum head and hose. And before I touch on the battery, I'll just go over some of the bundles available. You have the basic bundle, which includes a lot of the accessories, and that's about 1600. Then you have the probe bundle, comes with the uh the bag also, the carrying bag. It's about 1800, and you have the deluxe bundle, which is about 1870. And these are all different bundles. You can go to their site, VacDaddy, thevacdaddy.com and check it out. Now the battery is a great accessory, in my opinion. There's been a lot of great accessories of the VacDaddy, and I'll touch on some of those later for you. So the VacDaddy does need to be plugged into a socket to operate, and it has a cord, and this is what powers and gives it that robust 55 gallons per minute power, which is a very powerful vacuum, and the amount of suction is just almost like if you had your manual vac head and hose connected to the skimmer. That's how powerful the Vac Daddy is. And so the fact you have to plug it in is a drawback at some accounts where there may not be a plug somewhere by the pool side. A lot of homes have sockets and plugs over on the deck area, and it's not been a real problem for the Vac Daddy, but there are those accounts where you just can't find a plug that's convenient, and you may not want to plug it in 20 feet away from the pool. It makes it really hard to vacuum it. You're short on your cord length for the Vac Daddy, or you have to bring an extension cord. So the battery is a great addition. This battery is going to allow you to use a Vac Daddy at full power and make it extremely portable. It weighs about 15 pounds and it takes about three hours to fully charge. And it'll give you about two hours of runtime on a full charge. And it's a terranary lithium battery, so this is something that's going to give you a long life cycle of the battery and also make it a safer type of lithium-ion battery. And I really think that the battery will take the BacDaddy to the next level for those pool pros that are looking for something that you don't really need to, you know, plug in at every account. The nice thing about the battery is that you don't need to have that power unit, the converter that you bring back there to plug in. And so it's almost apples for apples because you you don't have to bring the converter back. Actually, they're called the transformers, I should say. Now there's two different transformers, just so you know. There's a standard one that's you know that doesn't have the um you can't modulate the power of the Vacaddy, and then there's the one that you can. So there's two different transformers, and they're fairly heavy. I mean, so it's kind of like if you don't take the transformer back and you take the battery back, it's very similar in weight distribution. So I would say the battery is going to be something that a lot of people will gravitate towards because then the Vac Daddy is much more portable. There's no need to plug it into a socket, you can go anywhere with it, and it just makes it much more versatile. And of course, the the battery is going to kind of make it a little more similar to the vacuum systems where you don't need to plug it in, and it's one of those things where it really frees you to use this device just about anywhere you need to use it without having to worry about bringing extension cords or looking for a socket or searching customers' backyards. You simply go there, put the battery on the deck, plug in the VacDaddy, and then vacuum the pool. So it's a great upgrade to the convenience factor, and it takes the Vac Daddy again into a category more like the vacuum systems now, even though it's really different than the vacuum systems. The battery does come with a strap, so you can take it back there. And I mentioned to them that this is a good time to maybe make a cart for the Vac Daddy, because then now you have all of these, you have all these accessories, and then you could have a cart also for the Vac Daddy itself. So there's a lot of you know options now for the Vac Daddy. If they had a small little cart, you could put the battery there and put the Vac Daddy on the cart, and I think that would be a great way to transport everything back to a stop. So that's probably in the works for the future. Don't quote me on this, but I gave them the idea that a cart would be kind of the next evolution of the Vac Daddy. I think they're gonna call this product the Bat Daddy, which is kind of like a play on words battery, daddy, Vac Daddy. And I definitely think that when it comes out, again, it's gonna be released, I believe, in January. You may probably should have mentioned that earlier, that it's not quite out yet, but it is coming out in January of 2026, and you would want to pick that up. One of the great things about the Vac Daddy, which I think this battery is also gonna come into play, is for cleanups, you know, cleaning up a pool that's been hit by a windstorm, or maybe a green pool cleanup after all the stuff settles on the bottom, because it does have that 55 gallons per minute, then you would just get the bag that you would put in there so that you're not the uh leaf bag, and that way you're not gonna clog up the impeller, and then you would be able to vacuum the waste with the vacuum to waste adapter, the V2W adapter. So basically how the Vac Daddy works is that on the back of the Vac Daddy, or actually on the top of the Vac Daddy vacuum, there's a discharge, and you'll vacuum the pool in regular mode, everything will be trapped in the bags inside the Vac Daddy, and then the water will be discharged back to the pool out of the top of the of the Vac Daddy, and that's fine because the bags pick up dirt and debris, and then the clean water goes back into the pool. But one thing that's really nice about it, you could take that standard discharge off of the top of the Vac Daddy. It takes about three minutes to make this whole transfer, you know, to get the vacuum to waste adapter on the back. And then with the vacuum to waste adapter on the back of the Vac Daddy, you would connect a regular 50-foot pool hose to it, and then put it somewhere on a deck where it's gonna drain into a drain or something, or into the sewer, and then you would simply plug the Vac Daddy in to a socket or to the battery, and you can vacuum the pool to waste, much like a portable pump or portable filtration system, and it's great, it works so good that you're going to it's going it really cuts into the category of the waste pumps and the portable filtration systems because of the vacuum to waste mode. Now I told you it doesn't fit any real category because it is a pretty unique product, so you can use it, of course, like a manual vacuum. All the dirt and debris gets trapped in the bag in the Vac Daddy, it doesn't go back into the filtration system, and you vacuum it very similar to a manual vacuum with a hose attached to the skimmer, and again, it has much more power than the battery-operated ones that are very similar to it in design. And it also has the vacuum the waste ability, so it kind of fits into that category of a portable pump or portable waste pump. And with addition and with the addition of the Bat Daddy, it makes it much like the vacuum systems where you don't need you know any kind of power from the customer's property to operate it or use the customer's system, uh, pool system or filtration system to operate the machine. So, again, it's really a unique device where you can't compare it to the bottom feeder, really, I don't think, or the riptide, or you can't compare it to the water tech precision two point or version 10, I should say, because it is a unique pool tool. And with the vacuum to waste adapter, again, it's makes this very versatile. There's also a shallow water adapter. This is pretty interesting. The shallow water adapter allows you to kind of use the Vac Daddy in fountains and in water features by setting the Vac Daddy into the water feature itself, and then attaching this to the front of it with a small vacuum hose, maybe like a 10-foot or 15-foot vacuum hose on the front. So you put the shallow water adapter on the front of it, you attach the vacuum hose to it, and then you attach it to the manual vacuum head, and then you can vacuum the pool out in really shallow water because the way the vacaddy is designed with the discharge on back, it has to be submerged in water to operate correctly. So with the shallow water adapter, you can actually set the Vac Daddy into the body of water, the word submerged, and then you could use that to vacuum out a fountain or a pond. So it's really convenient to have this as well with a shallow water adapter. Because a lot of the again, small battery-powered vacuums don't really work in water that's really shallow because of the discharge being near the top or the middle of the cleaner. So another great addition is the shallow water adapter, and again, making this a very versatile machine. Now you can do you know water features and fountains on your pool route using the Vac Daddy, and it eliminates another category of devices you need to carry, which are the smaller battery-operated cleaners for that, or bringing your manual vacuum back there, connecting it to a portable pump, and then trying to you know filter out that pond or water feature. The Vac Daddy, of course, is a much more convenient thing to bring there versus a portable filtration system with the filter and pump attached to it. So, of course, now the question is who is the Vac Daddy made for? Well, originally it was promoted as a way to replace manual vacuuming of a pool. So it's great for employees. You know, a lot of times employees will try to vacuum a pool, and sometimes you have pump issues, priming issues, you have to you know overthink things sometimes. So if you have employees and you want to give them a VAC daddy to vacuum the pools on the route, it makes things a lot easier for them and it takes a lot of the other things, other factors out of the equation about using the customer's filtration system. And so for that it's great. For also those pools where the filtration system is pretty weak and you can't really manual vacuum the pool and you need to manual vacuum it, this is a great addition as well. Of course, for pool pros looking for a cleanup pump or way to vacuum the waste, the Vac Daddy definitely fits that category because of the vacuum the waste adapter. Also, I mentioned the shallow water adapter also for water features, it's a great addition as well. And you may be wondering, you know, how the bags work as far as picking up debris and dirt, you know, is it something that's just like manual vacuuming in the pool or will pick up all the fine dirt in the pool? So, since it does use bags inside, and this is one reason why it's compared to the vacuum systems a lot, the felt bag will pick up 75 microns, which is very similar to the vacuum system bags out there, and then you have other bags that will pick up about 200 microns. So, again, it's for debris and the very fine dirt. If pools with a lot of dirt in it, you want to use the vacuum in the waste adapter. And for most pools, 75 microns is sufficient. If you're using a vacuum system right now in your pool, you're looking for something that is more versatile. The fact that he, of course, will fit that category. But again, it does use those bags in there, so it is not going to pick up all the dirt and debris. I think in the future, one thing that they could come out with is like a filter bag or something that looks more pleated, like a cartridge filter, and that probably will pick up more dirt than the current bags that they have for the Vac Daddy. It's not a perfect product, but it is a very versatile product, and so I think that's where it does have its market share. The versatility of the Vac Daddy with the battery now, and the fact that it does so many different things that it does fit into your pool route somewhere in a lot of cases. A lot of people have the Vac Daddy, they have a vacuum system, they have the small battery operated cleaners, and it's just another professional tool that you can add to your pool service arsenal.
