  • Population: As of 2022 data, the circle contains over 4.32 billion people, which is more than 55% of the global population.
  • Geographic Scope: It encompasses the most densely populated regions of China, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, and the Philippines.
  • The Paradox: Despite containing over half of humanity, the circle also includes some of the world's most desolate and sparsely populated areas, such as the Tibetan Plateau, the Gobi Desert, and parts of the Himalayas.
  • Origin: The term was coined by mapmaker Alasdair Rae in 2022. It is an updated, more data-accurate version of the "Valeriepieris circle" (a similar concept that went viral on Reddit in 2013).
