Marisa is a fourth-year PhD candidate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Laboratory of Dr. Drew Pardoll. 

After her undergrad, she worked as a technician in industry for almost 6 years before deciding to go back to Academia to Pursue a PhD.

Her thesis involves studying the role of AMPA receptors in T cells in the context of autoimmune disease.

She is as well the leader of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Immunology graduate program with the goals of increasing representation of minorities and gender diversity in the program as well as making it more visible to undergrad students
