Confessions of a PYP Teacher
This podcast is for anyone who is seeking ways to design learning that promotes learner independence. It began as a passion project to help teachers during the pandemic and has transformed how I look at learning within my practice. Each episode is 15 to 30 minutes long with thoughtful ideas and some tips to apply back to your practice. The episodes are largely based on the IB Primary Years Programme, but good teaching is for everyone. Even if you are teaching in a different type of program or government school, you can easily adapt the ideas to your learning context. It just requires a bit of creativity and open-mindedness. Welcome to the ninth episode of our specialist and supporting teachers series. I’m super excited to talk more about the learner profile attributes. This is one of the most underused tools alongside the approaches to learning in the IB programmes. This is a bold statement to say, I know.
I’m just tired of people using the learner profile attributes as character traits. They are SKILLS required to create a DISPOSITION.
More than ever, we need young people who know how to think, feel, and act. The only way that we will get them there is by using the language of the learner profile in our practice everyday. You heard me, every single day.
Take a listen to one of my shortest, but equally powerful episodes of how to make the learner profile work for you as a specialist and supporting teacher.
