SPEAKER_02Hello, welcome to the 20 Minutes Votes Podcast. My name's Max State Josh joining me as always, ready to kick into some of this weekend's racing and recap. The weekend that was and wow, what a week of racing that we've missed out on, boys. Unfortunately, didn't get to do the pod last week, Ipswitch Cup Day last weekend, but all eyes were looking abroad. Overseas, Royal Ascort was on, and what a carnival it was. Um started off with a bang, um, you know, with a $50 pop winning in a nine-horse field, Bo Echo. Oh sorry, not Bo Echo, uh 10 Bob Tony uh of all things for Kieran Schumacher in the Queen Anne. Oh man, I I think that sort of sums up the punt is that you have a lot of quality horses going around, like your Docklands, like your opera bellow, notable speech, and doesn't matter, you get knocked off by a $50 pop in the first uh first feature race of the entire carnival. Nate, what a carnival Royal Ascot was last week. And boy oh boy, I cannot wait because we're only a couple weeks away from Goodwood. The good times don't just stop uh there. How are you doing, brother?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, doing well. Maxie, great to be back. It's been a minute, boys. I hope you're all well. Uh I know I am, yes. It was a great week of racing. Sort of some late nights into early mornings with the World Cup as well. It was all happening uh last week, and yeah, it was an excellent start. If you're on the 50 to 1 pop, I couldn't find it myself. More Thunder, I thought was a good run, but geez, I couldn't find a winner in that. Opera Bello, one of the runs of the carnival uh in the Queen Air, I thought was sensational up on a hot tempo. So we'll break down a bit a few other key features, obviously. Some wins, some misses, as there always is uh when you've got so many races to cover. 35 races over the five days, and you're gonna find a winner or two, it's just how many on each night. We were able to do that, boys. I thought we did a pretty good job overall. Uh so well done to you, boys. Obviously, a bit of fun uh tipping on the Twitter sphere over the week. So uh yeah, keen to dive in and talk about it, Maxi. It was a great weekend.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and Josh, oh man, it this is gonna be like punting Christmas for us um looking abroad, where we have all these international form lines all lining up towards this one week. And while the Aussies weren't able to get it done overseas at Royal Ascot, I mean it it still lived up to be one of the best racing carnivals in the world.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it was a great five days, Max. Great racing on each day. We had a cracker of a winner in the Prince of Wales stakes that we'll get into. We had the match race, trawleman Scandinavia and the Gold Cup. That was outstanding. And then on the last night, the Jubilee, just to finish it off. It was a great five days of racing. The rain held off, firm decks all week. We can talk about a bit of bias on the straight racing for the first few days, but overall I thought it was a very good five days of racing over there in the UK boys.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let's start with the straight racing. Of course, um, gonna start with King Charles Stakes uh on the first day of the carnival and going over the thousand metres, all eyes were looking at overpass and Asphora bringing in that little bit of Aussie angle. Asphora managed to uh eke out third place in the end, hit the front with about a hundred to go, but two really big finishes there from uh Mission Central and um Rayvacca uh Ravakia uh from the Rayevka. Rayevka, we'll get it. Uh but it was all about the Ryan, more Nadine show, like it is every Royal Ascot. Um, but they look to have a really, really nice sprinter uh on the up and up there, Josh. Um yeah, Mission Central just looks a really nice Colt on the up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, it had won its last few races. It went over to the UK at the end of last prep, but he had won his first two races there over in Ireland before heading over here, and uh he ended up hitting the right part of the track, but he still had to have that turn of foot late. Overpass had them all dead to rights with about a hundred to go. But yeah, the French horse flew him late, and then yeah, you just can't beat that combo. I mean, uh, we'll talk about later, but uh now uh A'Brien a hundred royal ascot winners. Just outstanding, just too good. And that combo, they just know how to prep their horses for the big days. And you don't see a lot of Ryan more A'Brien horses going round at $15 in Group 1. So if you got on board, you got a really nice price there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and got to talk about the Aussie constituent as well. Bjorn Baker and Josh Parr made the trip over there, um, Nathan. And look, they'd obviously be disappointed they weren't able to eke out the win in that race, but I thought overpass lost no admirers. I thought he was very, very bold for first crack at the track and first crack overseas as well. Um, yeah, he certainly didn't have his colours completely lowered. Um, I thought it was a valiant effort there, Nate.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, for sure. I mean, you know, first up, first time going down that straight course at Asket. Only really proper good horses do it. Obviously, we talk about, you know, overpass, uh, pardon me overpasses, your nature strips and um black caviars, take over target, blah, blah, blah. But, you know, and look, I don't think anyone thought overpass was that level. We think we thought he was good enough to go over there and beat that lot, but like you said, sometimes circumstances just mean you have to do all the donkey work. And that little hill uh in that last sort of 150 metres, I do think probably saw him out in the end. We say that thousand metres, it's more like a 1200, so I think it was telling late uh for overpass. Mission Central, interesting, Josh. You talk about the the combo, Aiden O'Brien and uh Ryan Moore. First time taking out that feature. So obviously a big uh, as you said, a lot of winners at Royal Ascot, but the sprint ones, probably not usually the ones that they're recognised for, uh, at least maybe not outside of the juveniles, obviously. Uh, they've probably had a few of those and like Commonwealth Cups and things like that in the past. But uh yeah, first Jubilee uh over in uh for that combination in that race. So Mission Central, too good. Uh yeah, that elite turn of foot, like you spoke about, boys, but was replicated because of that hot tempo set by Overpass. So you do have to sort of give him an extra sort of tick of approval, all things considered. Great race to kick off the carnival though, Maxie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what a cracker. And in the next race as well, I think probably one of the highlights of the entire carnival, or one of the real key horses of the entire carnival going forward. Um, I guess the coming of Bo Echo, uh, and what an incredible, incredible horse that this is. Um beats off Gestad in the following race, talk about the St. James um uh James Palace stakes. Um Josh, I mean this horse is honestly it's a superstar on the up. Um, but where do you see this horse's I guess like true potential now group one one uh group one winner over the mile? Potentially, could you see, you know, are you getting shades of maybe even like a baid? Um I I'm kind of almost getting that kind of flavor there um about him. Like I I think this horse still has plenty more improvement to come in the world's oyster.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, very good horse, very good win, considering one won the Guinea's first start and won by a pretty big margin, and then Gastard came out and romped in in the Irish Guinea's. So Gastard had fitness on its side, and Boecho hadn't run since near market. And uh Boecho probably got the tougher run in the race. Gastard cut the corner, went back on the inside. It was a very good race. Boecho just got there. Um, Billy Lochnane riding really well over there at the moment. He had a couple winners during the week there for George Bowie over there, and um I'd say the Sussex at Goodwood is the next one to go. They'll probably stay at the mole. Probably the mole is probably where they stay. I don't know if it is gonna be a 2,000 metre horse or not, but um we'll be interested to see it up against the older horses, that's for sure. And um, I'd say uh Gastard would probably want to go there for round three because there was not a big margin. But yeah, Boecho Nathan uh just peeled out and was too strong on the line.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, really good win. Obviously, the top two are very talented Colts. Uh that's what we learned out of that race. I mean, look, Gastard, yes, got favours on the inside running rail, but did run into a stable mate that was dying off. Christoph Simeon copying a bit of a detention uh from Stewards, if you will, uh post-race. Interesting. Interesting if we're gonna get tactical uh espionage later in the carnival, I wonder. Um but we don't we only seem to talk about it uh in the in the juveniles, but anyway, uh that's neither here nor there. But uh no, I thought the pair, obviously the pair of them are very, very talented. Bo Echo, as you alluded to, Maxie. I think just putting that pick of fence together just wants to savage the line, wants to win, and you love to see that out of any horse and the way he was doing it and doing it really well. Gestart, uh, like Josh said, Frank the Form two, love to see him clash one more time. So uh yeah, top two very, very talented Colts. Can't wait to see where they progress.
SPEAKER_02Um all right, let's move on, maybe to one of those races where might have seen a little bit of stable running uh there. We'll go on to day two, uh boys, and of course the feature um was what uh taken out by ombudsman uh as well. That was a cracking win in the uh Prince of Wales stakes. Um there, you know, really good run over the 2,000 metres, knocked off Minnie Hawk and De Riz. I I thought they were exceptional returns for both of those horses, but it was all about Ombudsman, uh just on another level. Um, yeah, and the two sort of stable runners and Devil's Advocate and Mississippi River tailed out at the back of the field. Um geez feel for uh Wayne Lord and don't feel too bad for him. Uh he does get a winner or two later in the carnival, but uh Josh Ombudsman, when he's on song, he he's up there for one of the best, um one of the best horses going around over 2,000 metres plus. Like he's an exceptional, exceptional animal when he puts it all together. Um and he was able to do it at Royal Ascot on the biggest stage.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, supreme turn of foot there. I mean, Ombudsman got Raya 132 time four ranking for that race. So uh that shows how good that win was. Defeated a fairly good field. He defeated the Quinella in the arc by five lengths. So, I mean, that's all you need to know there. I think um if Henri Graffad had his time again, he would have uh uh not taken Kalandigan to Epson and gone to this race instead. But obviously, they didn't want to run Kalandigan and De Riz against each other. De Riz, I think, felt the track. I think De Riz wants a bit of given the ground, and that was a very uh good run from uh many hawk considering it didn't run up to its peak in the Tatsgold Cup to start before. But um, with those tactics, we saw it um in the Judmont last year at York, and they did it again. Callandigan's been the only horse that's been able to beat them when they've done that, but he wasn't there, and Ombudsman took full advantage, and it was Godolphin and Buick's only winner for the carnival, so I thought that was quite an interesting thing as well. Again, no winners for Charlie Appleby during the whole carnival there at Royal Ascot. But Ombudsman, I would say last year they went to the Cora Eclipse after that run. I would say we probably don't see it again till the Judmont to try and go back to back.
SPEAKER_02What about you, Nate? Thoughts coming out of the Prince of Wales stakes. Um Ombudsman, he he was spec'd in the market to run a performance like that, but um, yeah, to beat the Quinella coming out of the arc. I mean, he he needed like a big win uh like that on his CV because I do I think we all put him in that echelon, like quite there, but he just needed to I I guess really stamp it against some top-tier opponents, and he was able to do that last week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 100%. Uh, I think Josh actually echoed a lot of the points I was gonna make. I think the Aga Khan, gee, they want their time again. I mean that that Epsom track would have suited De Riz down to the ground. It probably bolts up in that in that slop at uh Epsom, all things considered. I know the trip, you know, uh not quite the same, though. Did win an arc over that trip, so uh well a similar trip I should say. So look, all things considered, if Kalendigan rocks up, what a match race we would have had off that tempo, just knowing how quick uh sort of the two to four that Kalandigan can rip and tear through is just a leak company in terms of turn of foot. So uh would have been a very interesting match race had they switched it up. Mini Hawk, that was enormous. I thought dragging up that field looked gone, and then somehow still kick back to beat home De Riz, I thought was a great run. And like Josh alluded to, De Riz, I just think felt the uh felt the firming ground. I think back with a bit of sting out of the ground, uh back-to-back arcs are not beyond her, absolutely no doubt in my mind in that regard. Uh pardon me, in that regard, yeah. I think he can definitely bounce back. But yeah, it was all about um budsman. When you've got pacemakers doing that, and I mean if we're being in the Fair Dean department, they were going unreal tempo up on speed, setting it up for the back markers. As the joke I'm making before, obviously, we saw that uh when it came to Gestard and also Boecho, very similar setup there. Christoph, probably it was more in terms of how he allowed that run to unfold on the inside, but still, we're talking about pacemakers, we're talking about race shape for stable mates, and it happens all over the world. It happens here in Australia too. You'd be lying to yourself if you don't think it happens. It does. So look, one of those races where everything unfolded beautifully from Budsman. He's a talented horse, he's one of the world's best over 2,000 meters, there's no doubt about that. Love to see a clash of Kalandigan and Romantic Warrior uh over 2,000 metres uh and sort of see where they all end up. Um it would be a very, very interesting contest, that's for sure. But um, yeah, all honours and budsman maxi. Uh one of the wins of the carnival, clearly, uh, just on face value. Well, Josh.
SPEAKER_03No, I just want to quickly mention, because you brought up the arc, and I did read a bit of news early last week that um in 2027 they've confirmed that they are gonna allow geldings in the arc. So a horse like Caland again can't run that this year, but if they keep going with the horse next year, they'd be able to run it. So I thought that was a bit of interesting news there, boys.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh that'll that'll be fascinating to see like what other horses could potentially make it into the field. And uh, you know, it's a bit of a shame because like I guess with the what if serve, like a few of the other great horses over the years that have never been able to tackle an arc because of the gelding uh treatment, but uh we'll have to wait and see. Um boys moving on to the course the Thursday um feature one group one on the day, and it's the Ascot Gold Cup, and geez, it turned into a bit of a match race. Um the market had as a match race between Trallerman and Scandinavia, and just sort of that last 300 metres when they're both hit the front together, locked together, Truleman in front, Scandinavia just off its hammer, um, and they were back and forth, back and forth pretty much the whole home straight, and just that last sort of 50 metres. Scandinavia got the better there for um Ryan Moore, Aiden O'Brien combination talking about plenty. Um, yeah, up there as well for probably one of the races of the carnival, uh, and it delivers once again. It got shades of Enable versus Crystal Ocean for me, um, when they had uh a few cracks back at each other. Um, we're going back like five, six years or so, but um, yeah, what a performance from Scandinavia. Gets that group one uh and on the biggest stage of all there at Royal Ascot, Nate.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's the best star in the world. He's just an absolute bona fide winner. That's just what he is. You go look at his profile. Ever since he failed, uh well, I say failed, but was ridden at this carnival, wide no cover last year, should have pissed in for fun. Um I was on him. Uh and uh I'm not I'm I'm not salty about it, but um, he should have won easily. Uh I can't remember what the race was uh last year, but it was uh I think one of the class two races or yeah, Karmas won it. Yeah, it was yeah, Karma's won the race, and he's just continued to show that he's just a superior animal. Uh four wide no cover in that race was phenomenal and ever since he hasn't turned uh turned in a bad performance. I think he's won every start since. Yeah, he hasn't lost since you go. He's just he's just been absolutely brilliant. He's a freak. You know, we he was uh another sort of knife in the stomach or to the side and the back and you know, or in my intestines, and name the knife. Uh backed him in Melbourne Cups in the past, and if he came over, just dead set wouldn't be a contest. He would just lap them up. He's just a proper stayer. It turned into an endurance test, 4,000 metres. Trawleman, just on him. I mean, what an absolute freak of nature he is. First up.
SPEAKER_03First up.
SPEAKER_01I mean, seriously, like to do what he did first up, any any good horse would have still knocked up and ran third, fourth in that race, but he just kept whacking away and whacking away. He was nearly stole it from the clutches of Scandinavia, but he's just a proper stayer. Just two horses that are genuine, proper horses. And so, look, where can Scandinavia sort of end up in the echelon of stayers over there? I'm not sure. He's not Kypriosh yet, don't get me wrong. But he's a very, very good horse, and I'm excited to see where they land with him, Josh, because I know I can't, you know, we sort of text each other back and forth and say, Oh, he's one of mine, he's one of mine. Scandinavia's been genuinely one that I've had my eye on for a long time, so it's nice to actually see him, you know, continue on his winning ways and do it on the big stage.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, he's not he's not stratifarious Kyprios levels just yet.
SPEAKER_02But um, but I mean, like you said, hasn't a lot trending in the right direction, six wins in a row. That's nothing to cough at.
SPEAKER_03No, exactly. And I thought just as good as that one was, I thought the win in the English St. Ledger at the end of last year was enormous as well, with uh when Tom Marquand was on that day. So very good wins, but only in the UK could you have a horse like Trawleman run first up over 4,000 metres and just get uh nutted on the line. That was enormous by Traulleman. If Traulleman had had a prep run, would be Who knows? Exactly. That's what I'm saying. We just don't know. We have to go by what happened. But Ryan just knows where that winning post is at Royal Ascot. He timed his run to get past Trawleman to perfection, and that that win gave Ano Bryan a hundred Royal Ascot winners. So congratulations to them. And uh Max's best bet on the carnival, Illinois, in the last on the last day, put Ryan Moore on 99 Royal Ascot winners. So you're gonna wait another year. Yeah, so what's he on in the Queen Ann race one next year? Yeah, yeah. If you're near that, just just take it now. But no, I mean two outstanding horsemen, and um, yeah, I thought that was probably the match race of the it was the match race of the carnival nature.
SPEAKER_01And just really quickly, you talk about just they're just horsemen. His fucking son goes alright too. Joseph O'Brien. He's got a crop. I mean, in the fed in department, when Aiden eventually wants to hang it up, and at some point it'll happen, or Bally Doyle. I wonder who they'll be calling. Uh, I think Joseph might be the first point of call, there's no doubt about that. Talk about carnivals, he had an excellent carnival in his own right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, he didn't bag as many group ones as uh as his dad, but geez, the quality of uh bloodstock that he's got going through at the moment, and uh apparently we don't know which horses are gonna be making their way over to uh Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup Carnival, but apparently he is coming back this year, not sure which runners uh in particular, but um yeah, cannot wait to have him back over as well. Um but yeah, it was an exceptional um yeah, Ascot Gold Cup. Um it was probably yeah, one of the one of the highlight races if you had to pick a race, not necessarily a horse, um, that it it certainly lived up to the height, that's for sure, boys. Um move on to the Friday, real quick as well. A couple group ones on that day. Uh unfortunately I couldn't it was the only night that I couldn't stay up and actually watch all the races uh because I had the early start, uh the 6 a.m. start on the Saturday. So and of course the soccer roos were playing as well at 5 a.m. So made it a bit tricky. But uh the Commonwealth Cup for the three-year-olds um over the 1200 metres, it was taken out by Venetian Sun as well. Um Spicy Margs end up uh running a hole in there for second as well as division. Um but yeah, another uh nice one here for the Birken League camp. Um, Josh, what do you make of this run of this uh nice little three-year-old Philly?
SPEAKER_03This form line wins this race more times than not. They run them first up at the mile in the guineas, they don't run the trip, and then they freshen them to the sprinting trips, and they always just seem to win. I I don't know what it's about, but this horse flopped in the guineas, then destroyed them at Hadock Park in the lead up before this race, and then that was a I'll say interesting ride by Clifford Lee in that Come Off Cup. It's almost as if he didn't see that horse coming on the inside. It had shades of black caviar about it, but he rode him out to the line and then he just held on. I thought I thought it was a solid win. I don't know um if this horse is an out and out superstar or not, but um yeah, I thought it was a very solid win there. One uh a group race as a two-year-old at the track, and now it's come back and won the Commonwealth Cup. So Clifford Lee for Karl Burke, that combination usually gets you one, and congratulations on winning the Commonwealth Cup, Nathan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, it was a good win. Um I I I think uh the learning curve we we got out of that one was that uh talk about placement of horsemen of horses, uh, although although We love Aiden O'Brien in the way he places his horses. Um True Love probably wins that race by no eight lengths, ten, maybe. I mean, I mean in the Feding department. There was a good win by Venetian Sun, was exposed a long way out. Uh, and like you said, Josh, um, I thought uh a little bit lackluster towards the end there. But they just the massive value sort of poking up into the placings, tight finish, and the way I see it, like I mean, you look at true love's performances down a straight course have just been excellent. Um, so I think true love probably wins that race for fun. I'm not trying to diminish the returns of Venetian Sun. And hey, favorite backers, they were uh they were chuffed, so I'm not about to uh kick them in the stomach, but yeah, true love. We'll talk about her in a second, but um, she was very, very she would have been very competitive to say the least in a race like that.
SPEAKER_02All right, let's move on to race four boys. Um another group one feature, and speaking of Aiden O'Brien and Brian Moore, uh they take out uh this race for the Phillies over the 1600 metres here, Josh. Um precise, really nice Philly potentially on the up. Where do you see her sort of peak potentially being?
SPEAKER_03I think she can get to 2,000 metres. I I really like this girl. She was underdone going into the girls' guineas in the in the Phillies, where true love won the first leg. And um, she just missed uh missed a had a bit of fitness issue. She went over to America, got a temperature, came back. She wasn't ready for that race. And then if you watch her in the Irish uh guineas for the girls, she gave them an absolute bath. And then at Ascot, had to do it the hard way. Three wide, no cover the trip. Ryan just cuddled her the whole way, and she was too good. I think if she gets cover, she would have won by more. Although there was a hard luck story in the race with a horse called Tulene. Go back and watch that run. There was a uh there was a bit of Argybargy there with uh with a couple of horses there. Ballydoor might have been in part of the Argybargy there with uh true love and moon target there. But Tulene was very unlucky. But I thought being free-wide the trip, precise uh was very strong there to the line. And I definitely think she can get to 2,000 metres. Whether she's an arc horse, I'm not sure. We'll have to wait and see. But I think precise is a really, really good filly going on to bigger and better things, Nathan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, agree. Best horse won the race. Shouldn't have won the race. Um look, yeah, I I think that there's two the two things can be true, right? Precise, I think, is the best horse. If it got a bit it got a better run in transit, I think she wins and wins well. Tulin should have won. I mean, you watched the replay. This was one of the biggest figures of the day, easily. Um, Safi Osborne, poor thing. She's she's got bruises all over her head. I mean, um Wayne Lauden may as well pulled the whip and just whacked the one as they went past each other. I mean, seriously, it was Dodgham Carr's true, and that's another reason. True, I should have gone to the Commonwealth Cup. It would have been double collect, because goodness me. Um, look, yeah, I no knocks on precise. I've got to return out of the race with precise winning. So I mean, I'm not upset, don't get me wrong. But just as an objective punter, I mean, goodness me, yeah. Uh, should have been winning the race. But I agree with you. It's funny. Like, on the day, I think all things even, I still think precise would have won. I just think the argument is shifting because Tour Link got absolutely bolaxed. You have a look at that run. I mean, it was yeah, clearly the run of the carnival in a losing effort. It should have won the race. But precise also probably wins with an even run. So they do offset a little bit there. I think both of them are very talented mayors moving forward. Uh, I think they're both very good. True love's still got wins as well. Uh, follow this race with confidence. Even the ones in behind, sort of back four, fifth, sixth. Keep an eye on the form line. I think it'll be strong.
SPEAKER_02All right. Let's move on, uh, boys, to the last day of the carnival. And it was Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. Group one, twelve hundred metres, and of course, all eyes of Australia looking at Jolly Starr um to potentially bag group one over there at Royal Ascot. And unfortunately, colours lowered just a little bit. Uh, she went in a short price favourite, um, but this was a much deeper field uh than what we saw um earlier in the carnival, the overpass tackle, Zatona Rev, really nice Galliper as well. Lek Forrest, a horse that we'd all be pretty familiar with, even though the likes of you know like a Lugal um as well. Um Card Dam placed in this race as well in the past. Like it was a pretty good field that could line up this time around. Um and J Mac, Jolly Star, they had to settle for third on this occasion. Um Los Noah Byras, and of course, they're probably over there for breeding purposes as well, um, with Jolly Starr. So the troops not all you know doom and gloom heading over there, unfortunately. But um, yeah, Almorak. Um, don't think there was too many punters out there tipping this one. Nice little three-year-old Colt on the up or four-year-old, sorry, uh, on the up here boys, uh, for William Haggis and Tommy Marquand. Uh just got the bob there over Satono Rev, who brings that Kying rising form. Japan has to settle for second once again. Josh and uh yeah, J Mac Walla, they'd be a little bit disappointed, you know, long way to go. But um, yeah, I I don't think she lost any of Myras. Um it's a tough thing to do to travel from one side of the world to the other and try and win their feature races on their ground. Um, and I I thought she she was up there and she was pretty admirable in the end.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, bloody. I'll start with the Japanese because oh, the Japanese, oh, they've got to feel so oh, they've gotta feel so sick with the way Saturno Rev lost that race. Oh going there last year, running second this year. Once Satana Rev got past Jolie Star, they probably thought they were home, but Aussie Tom back on the inside just gets them again. Jolie Starr was very brave up there on speed. Both of them were. Satano Rev was up there on speed leading the brigade on the grandstand side as well. So um the horse that uh they were going pretty quick too. So they also got the uh nice card into the race, won it. But yeah, uh, you were mentioning before, Nathan. Maybe she jumped too good. That's a possibility. I just yeah, if she got that little bit more cover to build into the race, maybe we could have got a different assault there, Nathan. But uh all honors to uh William Haggis and Tom Marquand. Uh that's only their I think it's only their second ever, not their second ever win, but their second ever group one at Royal Ascot as a combination.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right. There you go. Uh look, uh it's funny, yeah. Uh I think, hey, to be fair, if it's not Nussie Horses, it's an Aussie hoop. Let's go. Uh we'll take that. Uh maybe uh we'll we'll we'll take him. He's one of ours. Uh look, it was a really really special effort by Jolly Star. You know, it's against her own pattern to do what she did. You know, and it's just a horse like her that is already, in my opinion, not the best straight track horse. Even her runs at Flemington, you go back and have a look at her replays, they're not gangbusters, you know. She's solid down the straight course. She's much better and much more effective with a turning track. There's no doubt about that. You then factor in that that 1200 at Ascot's more like a 1300 metre race, and she didn't get any cover. She just jumps so well for J Mac. I think he was he was surprised. I think he thought there'd be something sort of pinging the lids that he could follow with. And yes, overpass was there, but sort of you alluded to that, Josh, that he probably wasn't going to run out the trip, and I think J Mac sort of knew that, so he didn't want to get bundled in behind that horse. So probably a little bit of a you know 50-50 shot, and he thought I'll take my chances. And did it cost him the race? It could have. I mean, there was a what a a head between the first four and that finish. It was a very close finish. And uh, like we say, you know, it's easy to say, oh, you know, losers, no admirers, but in that case, I think you know, race circumstances just meant that he landed there and it just had she was just exposed a long way out. And so um again, she was very, very good. Satono Rev, I mean, what can you say? I mean, it just he's so talented and he's just always there, he's just tough, grindy, and he's telling what. I mean, he probably thought, gee, oh wow, there's no backsides, there's no Kaying rising in front of me at the moment. So how good's this? Um, and you know, he probably hit the front a bit too soon as well. And like you said, Josh, this just the one horse, progressive, still has upside, got that lovely run, and showed a really good turn of foot to run them all down and do it really impressively. So, yeah, look, uh you know, maybe a little disappointing uh for us Aussie followers uh to watch that race, but yeah, again, another one where no admirers lost. You just gotta, you know, give Haggis and the crew their their their due. You know, they set up their horse to be there and run a good race, and he did.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it it was a tough day uh for yours truly uh overall last Saturday. Of course, Socceros losing to the States, um GWS having a big loss as well. Uh Manley not even getting it over the line against the Bulldogs. Um, yeah, it was it was just and Jolly Starr to round it out, so a bit disappointing for for yours truly and the Mellor household. But um no, here we go again. But um yeah, I think with Jolly Star jumping as well as what she did, uh I think she jumped probably about as fairly as what she normally would. It's just I think the barrier manners and how well the horses jump over here in Australia because we're all built for early speed and jumping, you know, getting into a position so many of our races are down um around a bend as opposed to up the Flemington Strait. That's the only stray track that we use. Um so I think that you know i it it's hard because we're going over there onto their soil and how they sort of run races, they're but they're not as urgent out of the gates, they don't really need to ping the lids like they do over in uh America or they do here in Australia to really find a position early. Um yeah, and when you look at the stray, geez, it's so wide, you've got so much open air. Um and last thing J Mac wanted to do when he jumped as well as what he did and ended up, you know, nearly half a length clear of the rest of the field, he didn't want to all of a sudden pull her back out of her rhythm. Um, you know, just I I I think it was just unfortunate circumstances for him. Like, could the ride have been better? Probably, but um at the end of the day, uh look, you're just gonna dippy cap and just be like, they're too good over there. It's so hard to win over there as it is, uh to begin with. But um yeah, Chris Waller and J Mac, I mean, you know, they've already got a winner over there. Um they would have loved to have got one there for the connections, a jolly star, but um, you know, they've already got that group one uh in the king stand as well. So yeah, I'm I'm only to be a little bit forgiving of uh J Mac and the boys uh over there, although it is a little bit unfortunate, uh of course, there, Josh. But hey, that was Royal Ascot. Anything else to touch on, boys? Uh you mentioned Illinois uh getting out in the get out stakes, so we'll take that one uh in the uh Queen Alexandra stakes at class two level. But um anything else from Royal Ascot, Josh, you want to touch on?
SPEAKER_03Quick things. I want to give uh I want to talk about three things quickly. The first one is I want to give a shout out to Sack Lloyd, having a Royal Ascot winner on the Thursday night. He won on a horse called Moonfall. Moonfall Moonfall and the Britannia. Great ride for George Bowie. Um and yeah, he's riding up a storm there, riding for uh had a few rides for Godolphin too at Newmarket over there, so he's gone really well over there. The uh slaughter, if you will, of the carnival. You mentioned two lean, Nathan. I want to mention how Goliath didn't win the hard way.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness me.
SPEAKER_03That is one of the worst beats you ever see. That horse was gonna go on and win by two lengths comfortably, I believe, if Sumion didn't lose the reins there or lose his irons there with a furlong to go. That was one of the sickest beats if you're on Goliath, I feel like, for the carnival. And then the last one I want to mention, the ride and win of the carnival. I'm gonna give it to J Mac on the Friday night. They say you cannot win at a over a mile and a half of Royal Ascot from barrier one, and his ride on opportunity on the Friday night was outstanding. And to top it all off, he beat the king.
SPEAKER_01He did beat the king. And just on that, I mean you talk about J Mac, you know, Zach Lloyd, the Aussie boys absolutely killed it over there. I mean, he was on the quote unquote second run of Wyndham Race. Uh Wattenham. Wattennam, pardon me. Watnam Racing. Uh, you know, I think it was uh James Doyle getting the the major rides. Uh did he have a win during the carnival? I don't I don't what he had one. He might have one maybe on the third. I think he had one, yeah. So I mean I know J Mac, I mean he'd be absolutely chucked with his uh with his work over the week. He was brilliant. Uh him and Ryan Moore showing again on the world stage why they're the two best jockeys in the world.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, they're they're all form all elite. And yeah, I cannot wait to have them back here in Australia. Of course, riding plenty more winners, but uh if they want to take a little bit of time off, have a little holiday. I'd say it's well earned. I'd say it's well earned. Um yeah. So any anything else from you, Nathan, want to touch on from Royal Asco? Any other uh races in particular we missed? Uh I I think we touched on just about everything that we wanted to touch on, uh all the group one features and a few others.
SPEAKER_03Um anything else? The only thing I'll say is, boys, sorry to cut you off, Nathan, is that I saw a little interview with uh Sack Lloyd today. Uh sorry, Sack Purden today for racing and sports, and they were like, after watching it, uh, would you just like to have ridden car Ying Rising over there at Royal Ascot? And he said, Yeah, I would have loved to take him over there for a barrier trial for some prize money.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, honestly. And but you look at the prize money over there as well, it's not quite like the prize money here in Australia or potentially back home over in Hong Kong as well for a Zach Purton. So yeah, I can understand him not wanting to make the trick over. Uh because it is all for prestige uh when you look at their feature racing. Um, you know, where it's like, oh, the the prize money is you know a million dollars for uh for the gold cup, um, the feature race there on the Thursday, the middle um race of the meeting. Like, geez, come off it. It's like the Melvin Cup's worth eight times that. Yeah, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01Back to back Everest on the beck and call. I'm good, I'm happy. Yeah, I think we're okay.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. No, why why stress yourself? Why extrenuate yourself? Um, yeah, just go for that back-to-back Everest. Um, we'll get a price update a little bit later, that's for sure. Um, boys, let's dive into some of this weekend's racing, try and find a few winners. Um, Nate, you suggested let's have a look at the quaddy legs um of the Eagle Farm card. Whoops. And tell you what, the Tatasol's Cup. It's the first race of the Quaddy. We'll touch on it, but touch on it real briefly. Uh, because geez, this is a this is a Siccos race, let's be honest to you. Um, we're down to a field of six, staying race over 2,400 metres, pounding's your favourite alongside Future History and Asterix, double figures, the rest. Um, Nate, how do we break down this race? It looks a whore a race in three, market has a race in three, and I've got a race in probably two. How do you see it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I look uh how did I see it, Maxi? I sure well initially I didn't because I picked it as a race to cover. What am I doing? Uh well the last three races, they'll do.
SPEAKER_02Uh no, honestly, it's a group three race, and then it it's it tells you what it should be a cracking race. It's just what do we do with its placement? Because it's obviously not getting the it's not getting the field it should be getting.
SPEAKER_01No, there's no uh there's no Serdilius in this race, that's for sure. Uh look, uh it's a it's an interesting little field. I I kept it pretty simple, boys. I'll go through it pretty quick. I've got future history on top. I just think jump lead win. I just think small field, reader peak here, third up into the campaign for the Hickman team. It's going really well too. Comes out of those two races, was good behind Middle Earth, and then good behind Athanatos. Uh, just it was a weird setup. 2,000 metres first up, back to 1,800 metres, now back up to 2400. I think this is uh sort of third up reader peak. So uh Future History on top, Asterix in there for second, I think will run a really good race. Just sort of mix and matches his form. I know he comes out of the proper group one uh sort of form lines, so you've got to be respecting there. Pounding in for third, and then also Fortnite Park, just out of respect. Uh I've chucked in my four. But yeah, look, obviously, even if you find them with a no prize here, I shan't be having a bet. If I was having a quaddy, uh one and two would be my numbers, one and two. Uh and uh hopefully I don't get bombed out by pounding.
SPEAKER_02Yep. No, that's that's what I like to hear. What about you, Josh? How are you seeing uh this Tatasels cup?
SPEAKER_03Uh very similar, boys, but I've just gone the other way around. I've gone asterisk on top. I like that they've met each other. It was about it was last prep, but from that run, uh Asterix gets a two-kilo weight swing, and there was really nothing in between them. Future history is furred up, but I like that Asterix has gone to some proper group one racing and has got fitness under its belt fifth up to the mile and a half, gate free, should really be following future history wherever it goes, and hopefully it can pounce on that late and get the job done. So asterisk from future history. I'll put uh fork in the park in for third, might be able to run back to its best, stepping up and trip, and then pounding and for fourth. But I'm with you, Navan. It's a match race of two, but I went with the top weight on top asterisk.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same camp as well. Asterisk on top from future history. Pounding goes in there for third. Um, look, you might look at the form and be like, well, pounding beat home asterisk last start there. But you're gonna go back through, you're gonna go back over two years ago when Pounding won its last race. Um it's nearly over 20 starts since it's last had a winner. Um 66 starts, eight wins to its name, 21 placings. It's a consistent type and keeps paying its way. Um but yeah, it's just sort of if he doesn't win this race, I think he's well and truly done for. Um but Asterix on top for me. I I just think you know, he comes into this race um offer bit of confidence early in the campaign. Sort of lost its way, but I think this is a good bounce back. Um and then I'll chuck in Etna Rossa to round out the numbers there as well. But we can leave that race in the dust and move on to the Tatasul's mile. Now, this race is a bit more of a cracking race. We've got Sun God as your favourite from War Eternal, Rhoda Giller, and then double figures arrest, but the chances don't end there. Warby, depth of character, cranky Harry, Rising Pacific, Port Lockroy, group one winner. Um, Nathan, how are you seeing this race?
SPEAKER_01Um, the Tatasul's Mile. Yeah, I think it's a really interesting race. Uh a race where I did want to get away from the favorite, but I kept coming back to him. And I've got him on top, but I I'm gonna sprook a couple of horses here at big odds that I think you can even have a little savour on, or maybe a same race multi or something to get a little bit of value out of this race. So I've landed with Sun God on top. I loved it's two runs this preparation. It's come back a very sharp horse. Uh, I think uh this five-year-old boy at Fastnet Rock. Thought the first up wing was really good when beating point and shoot. That was over 1300 metres listed grade. I think came out and was only just nodded off there by War Eternal uh in that very tight finish uh a couple uh well back on the uh 6th of June, which was a really, really good effort. Obviously, War Eternal's come out again since. So a little bit of a weight swing uh in advantage here for Sun God, draws the one pole, gets Nash on. I think tick, tick, tick, I think will prove very, very hard to hold out here third up into the campaign. And just a horse that I don't think we've fully hit the ceiling of yet. I think he's still got some upside. They've stretched him out to sort of 1800 metres, 2,000 metres in other campaigns. He might just be a genuine maler. So we're gonna find out a bit more about him as well in a race like this. Keen to be with him and a solid, solid bet. Two horses I've identified here in my second and third picks at some value that I think you can potentially have a bit of a savour on. The first one's number six, rising Pacific. Now it comes out of that same war eternal form. Uh it was second up that on that occasion over 1500. Now, third up goes to the mile, draws barrier five. But the key is Eagle Farm track and trip. Eight starts for three wins and three minor placings. And as this ground starts to firm out, I think it's going to be a major player here, the son of preferment. Maybe wants to get a little bit further than 1600 metres, but you go back to last preparation, he was chip chomping at the heels of horses like the Inflictor and Transatlantic. And those horses be very competitive in a race like this. So I want to be respecting of Rising Pacific. And the other one I want to spruok is down the bottom of the page at around $34, number 13, Kaitel. I thought the first up run behind Bangelt uh Diamond was very, very good. Second up profile, three starts for two wins. Um, and again, this ground improving barrier two. Should get that lovely run in transit. Drew 12 first up, so now it gets a much better barrier to sort of jump and hold a position if he can. I think the price is over the odds. You go back to last hit preparation as well. He was getting beaten by a horse like yeti moves. But again, circumstances uh permitting, I think he'll be a bit better here, second up in the into this campaign. So Kai tells the other one that I want to be chucking into my multiples uh and try and get a win. And I've chucked in uh War Eternal, no knocks. I mean, seriously, a horse is flying, just putting that picket fence together. What's it, one, three in a row, looking for four? Can't knock it. I will say this though it's wins, Rachel King in the saddle, Naggets Tommy Berry. I'm not knocking Tommy Berry, I'm just saying sometimes uh horses get along with certain jocks and uh maybe the Little bit of change of fortune here for the stable uh with Rachel not being on board. But look, an interesting race of landed with the favourite, but I do think there's value around him.
SPEAKER_02All right. What about you, Josh? How are you seeing this race? The Tatasels mile.
SPEAKER_03I think it's an intriguing race as well. I'm with Nathan though. I'm with the favourite on top sun god. Just from that soft gait and with Nash on, I think it can get the job done here. Third up to the mile. But the interesting thing with this horse is he doesn't like to win by big margins. He always wins, runs tight races, whether he wins or it's like he doesn't like to run past horses this one. So I think he will this this weekend. Nash will uh get him over the line. You're taking a bit short there at around the $2.30, but this horse does look progressive and should be moving on to bigger and better things come the spring. So Sun got on top. And for a second, I'm gonna put in number 11, Warby. I really like the run last start, and I like the six kilos it's losing from behind War Eternal last start. This horse is probably better with a bit of given the ground. So I'm not sure if the track's gonna uh firm up from now. It's a soft five right now. I'm not sure we're expecting too much rain, but it did run a strong race on a firm deck last prep over the 400 metres at Eagle Farm. So it should handle the ground, whatever it is. And I think it double figures, probably the best each-way play for me in the race. In for third, I'll put in Rising Pacific, Nathan. I just uh I'm with you. I thought that run was good last start, but uh dropping to two kilos, third up, and like you mentioned, loves the mole here. I like the run last prep at the end of prep behind the inflict inflicted. If you can run to that, you're getting a good each-way price, and then I'll put in the favorite war eternal in for fourth. Now, I know it did win on a good deck two starts back when it beat Sun God, but most of its best form is with a bit of giving the ground. And like you mentioned, Rachel King on the last two times, Tommy Berry jumps. It's not a knock, but um $4.40. I think this might be um he might have come to the end of the prep, but he's still running quite well. He was there to be beaten last start and kicked back. So if he's got one more left in the tank, he can definitely win, but he'll be going around without me. I'll be with Sun God on top here.
SPEAKER_02I'm going against you here, boys. Um, both of you on Sun God. I'm on War Eternal in this race, just purely from the map. Uh I just look at the War Eternal, draws barrier three, should just be able to jump, get into a nice position, probably not lead this race, but end up lobbying one out, one back. Uh, and I think that plays certainly to War Eternal strengths. Um looking at the forecast up there, Brizzy, um, they're getting a little bit of rain. It's light sprinkle, so it's probably gonna stay in that soft range. I don't think they're gonna get quite to a good four, but even if they do get to a good four, the fact that War Eternal um has sort of you know shown that it can win on that good track, doesn't always need to give them the ground, is certainly a positive. But yeah, see where your boys are concerned. I but I also like the price difference as well between that Sun God. Um for me, Sun God just a little bit too short and draws barrier one. I I just don't know where he gets to from that barrier. He could be three back, four back of the fence, and then that's got me a little bit worried. But um goes in there for second because he's the obvious class in this race, and I reckon deserves to be favorite. I just can't get him quite at that $2.30 quote. I got him closer to around that three dollars or so. Um so hence why I've gone War Eternal's way over Sun God. Uh I've chucked him Rhodogilla in the mixer as well. I think seven bucks is a fair price. I think he's a really nice Galloper as well on the up. Um look, he's still um bouncing around those sort of benchmark grades, just trying to get that black type to his name. But I think he's um you know up to a race like this. Um yeah, certainly not out of his depth. And then speaking of depth, I'll check in depth of character as well to round up my numbers as well. Um coming out of that same Athanatos race as well there, last start, um, as well as going through the Scone Carnival. But on his day, um, and he does like this track as well. Five starts for three wins. I I think he is right up to this race. Um, but he is starting to get a little bit costly if you've been backing him every start, especially this campaign. Let's move on to the feature race, boys. It's the Tats Tiara, and it's a pretty cracking race here for the Phillies and Mayors. Last group one feature of the Australian racing carnival, splashback, Tuileries, and Jeringon have all lobbed up the same price at six dollars the field. Uh, then you go out to the likes of banal and within the law, those at single figures. So cracking race here for the girls, um Nathan. How are you breaking it down over the 1400?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just keep looking at it thinking, geez, I mean, what would Fangirl be? $1.80, $1.70 on a field like this? I mean, the Fed Inger Department. Congrats, whoever wins this is gonna get a group one on the CV, or maybe a multiple. I mean, there's a couple of group one winners in this field, but good. Could have a dead heat. You never know. Yeah, you never know. Who won the race last year? Who did win the race last year? It's a good question. I go honestly, couldn't tell you. Anyone got the mail? Was it Playspan?
SPEAKER_03No, that was a couple years ago, boys.
SPEAKER_01I feel like that was about eight years ago, please. You keep it. You'll go through my tips, Josh. You did the research. We're we're a fact uh fact ready podcast this one. All right, uh, let's go through the chats, Tiara. Uh look, interesting field. Uh, like you said, Maxie. Uh Bookie's alert up to us, so uh I'll I'll help you out. Uh we've gone with number one here on top, splashback. We've talked about the four blinds. I just think she's the one that comes through the best form. I thought her second up win at Eagle Farm over the 1200, albeit on heavy ground, was sensational. We talked about that that rail hugging ride by Mick Rodd. I thought it was a really nice ride. Then subsequently was excellent behind Hedley Grange uh in the Kingsford Smith, and then was very good again in the Stradbroke, had a low weight that occasion, and then ran on really, really nicely from the back of the field. The issue is she is a bit slow slowly away at times, so a little bit of a question mark there. But if she can jump evenly, find a spot, posse up, I think she's gonna prove very, very hard to beat. And like you said, Maxie, uh that if they're if we do sort of stay in that soft range, that's not gonna be a problem for her. Uh, she's still progressive, albeit a six-year-old, just 22 starts to her CV. So she's uh still got that upside, and I think she can be winning a race like this. So my main bet, I have 40 the win on splashback. In for second, I've gone in number three, Manal. Uh I thought the first up run there behind Uncommon James was very, very good. Obviously, 1200 metres was always always going to be a bit too sharp. But second up here, I thought was excellent. Second up last prep behind Verona Rose. That was at group two level, and then was okay again behind uh Lazura. Uh that was in the cool mall. So I think if uh a similar sort of um profile coming into this race, second up profile is excellent, five starts for three wins, and another minor placing, and another one that won't mind that sticking out of the ground. We get Ben Mellum, we get a soft enough draw there from Barrier 9. I thought those were the two major players. So I have 40 on splashback, 30 on Manal. And the other one that I'm going to chuck in as a decent bet at a price is number nine, Melody again. Um, I'll have 30 on her as well. I thought last week, uh behind South Sayer on the one-week backup here, uh, that was in the gay waterhouse uh at the end of last week. I thought was a nice effort on that occasion. Drew inside barrier, which sort of goes against her pattern. You look at her best profiles, it's been she's drawn wide, drags back, and powers down the centre of the course. I think they can do that on the weekend. Probably doesn't fit in great with the 57 kilos at set weight, but she's got ability, and you go back two uh three starts ago, pardon me, behind Idol Fly. I thought that effort was pretty decent uh in the Queen of the Turf, and also comes out of that coolmore behind Lazarus, only beating a length. So I think she's got some good form lines coming through to this race, albeit uh a little bit of a lackluster performance last start. But that's why you're getting $14. So Meldi again for me has got to be one uh I've got to be chucking in my multiples. And the horse that if it beats me, boys, there will be no potty next week. There will be no nothing, absolute vomit, nothing at all, is number 17 within the law. This horse, Fair Dinham, is cost me a fortune, and I cannot be honest, and now it's gonna win, and I'm gonna be sad. Hasn't won since the two-year-old days.
SPEAKER_02Uh we're going back uh back a bit there. Um, Josh, how are you seeing the Tats Diara for the Phillies and Bears?
SPEAKER_03Um, a little bit different than Nathan, but we've got the same horse on top. I'm with splash back as well, I think uh can win its grand final here. Yes, maybe been a bit disappointing since it got that win the second up, but just been getting too far back in its races. I just don't know why they have to go so far back. They've drawn a nice gate here where they can sit midfield. Jordan Schilds jumps back on here, and at its best, um, it's got form obviously to a bounding last prep. So at its best, I think it can definitely win this race. And at around the $6, I'll have uh $50 to win on Splashback. I've got it on top in for second. I'm sorry, Nathan, to do this to you, but I've got within the law in for second here in this race. I I just want to forgive that run second up on the heavy deck boys. I thought it was pretty good. Skyhook was enormous that day, too. I thought Nathan's about to pass out everyone. But um third up after after a small little break, back to 1400 metres. Tommy Berry jumps back on gate 10. If it runs anything to that run by and Regal Ward, I think it can go really close here, boys. And at $8.50, after you were getting $2.45 last start, I'll have 40 to win on within the law to go to the 50 to win on splashback. And then with my last $10 and my absolute blowout of the field is number 16, Soft Love. I have to have something on this horse. I think the horse is going outstanding. I loved its last two runs. Two starts back behind Flying Destiny, missed the kick, was Freelanc's last, flew home and just missed. And then last start of four was enormous on a heavy deck there behind She's got Pizazz in the tried and true lead up towards this race. Uh Matt Laurie, Dan Stackhouse from Barrier 8, and at $34 after my last $10 on it. So that's the way I'm playing it. 50 on Splashback, 40 on with the law, and my last 10 on Soft Love. And then I'll put Geringong in there for fourth. Nash jumping on this horse. Thought it was a good return there behind. She's got Passaz. I think it'll be interesting to see if they go forward or back with this horse. I'm not sure. But second up with a new stable, the months camp after uh it was with the Waterhouse bot camp. They might have this horse flying, be in the numbers, but just misses out on a bet strategy there, boys. So that's the way I'm playing the race in the Tatsier this year.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, I I thought this was a tough race, but I found a little bit of value that I'm keen to have a play in. Um I'll start with horse number three, Manal. Um, yeah, you boys got in your numbers um as well. You've got it up there, Josh. Look, I think on its day, it's certainly up to a race like this. Um, you know, now second up, it can build on that, finds itself at 1400 meters. Um, this is the kind of group one uh that Manal's gonna get to the CV once again. Um so yeah, I'm gonna go with Manal on top here. Um just draws nicely there in barrier eight, and we're getting a nice price to find out in $7. So I'll chuck $80 a win on it, and I'll save my last 20 and chuck it all on horse number 12 here. Savage Vibe. Uh this one here with the Tony Goland, uh Buckets more. He takes a ride. Last start comes out of one of the lead up races there behind She's got Pizzazz. The start behind that ended up beating it. Um I think the wet deck when they were on the heavy, that's what got it beat. Uh if it finds itself back on the soft, um, ticks plenty of boxes uh as well. Like that was its first crack on a heavy deck. Um, you know, Buckets has won on this before and it likes Eagle Farm as well. Um so I wanted to find runners that have uh been to Eagle Farm before and like the track. Um, and Savage Vibe just ticks all those. So yeah, want to be very, very weary. Um, but the only worry is that it hasn't won over the 1400 metres before. So we're really sort of taking a bit of a stab in the dark at the distance uh if it sees it out well and truly. So it goes in there for second. In for third have gone with splashback the way you boys are leading. Um I see where you're coming from, like on its day, right up to this race. It's just starting to get a little bit costly this campaign uh as well, off its last two starts. Um look, has been thrown in the deep end, obviously, and it's right up to this race to its ears. But uh yeah, I want to be a little bit wary on it. Haven't got any of mine on. And then inf a third have gone with uh Jering, oh sorry, Info Fourth have gone with Gerringong. Um yeah, geez. Two wins to its name, and it was its first two race starts. Um yeah, it it's getting costly, but also comes out as she's got Pizzazz race as well. So yeah, just the price difference between it and Savage Vibe, can't quite get it there, but uh want to follow that form line. It is one of the main lead-ups. Um looks a cracking edition of the Tatsatiara, last group one feature race of the carnival. Um as we move to the last uh race in the Eagle Farm, I guess Eagle Farm Dooman sort of racing carnival before they head up to the sunny coast. Um it's the Healy Stakes. Nathan Yellow Brick. Jeez, he he I feel like we've tipped him a thousand times in the last race of the card um in a feature race. It just seems to be his race. This seems to be the sort of race that he'd finally get the uh he'd finally salute for us. So have you gone team Yellow Brick in a $7.50 field or potentially one of these other runners in what looks a cracking race uh to round out the carnival?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's missed out on the top four, Maxie. Um, but that's no detriment to him. He's a he's a live chance, but in the Fair England department, you could pick half of these, and I wouldn't blame you. This is a very, very open race. I'm gonna throw a couple of darts though. Uh two in particular, I think, are good odds uh that I'm gonna be having a bet on. And the one I've got on top is a horse that, you know, it was sort of talked about as group one potential, and that's number six, Oak Hill. I know he's gone a little bit off the boil, but at that eight dollars, I think that's a fair enough price to sort of have a shout here. I thought was really good his last two starts, was good behind the bounding. Uh two back, beaten 2.4 lengths uh with Daniel Stackhouse in the saddle, and then Stacky again, last start uh behind on Common James. I'm gonna trust that form line. I think that's a good form line to be following there in the Morton Cup. I thought it was a nice effort. Uh sort of sat there right uh towards the rear of the field, hammered home over the 1200 metres, gets the same track and trip here, a bit of sting out of the ground, should be ideal. Uh, three starts for two wins on soft ground, and it gets that right set up there uh from barrier three. So Oak Hill, my main bet. And the other one I'm gonna have a saver on, is a horse that I've never really been had a big opinion of, but its last two starts have been terrific. And that's number five, Brudnell. I think it's going really, really well. I thought two back behind Bebs 9 was an excellent effort from a pretty unwinnable position. Drew wide, got back, hit the line well, and then ran into a good speedy on-speed type in one arua uh in at listed grade uh last start in the Bob Charlie. I thought was very, very good that day, too. Uh albeit with that inside draw uh and and um Aaron Bullock in the saddle this time. Drawsgate six, should be a good hot tempo to sprint off. And if he gets some clean air, watch for Brudenel to be flying down the outside. In for third and fourth, I've chucked in two horses that I'm dead set fed up with, boys. This is uh again within the lore areas uh for these two. So back them because I'll win. Uh in for third, I've chucked in number nine, Neance. Um, I've followed this horse. It's if three starts this prep, and every time it's disappointed, but uh it'll go in the quaddy to try and save some face if it does win. And the other one is number 11, Pereal, who uh two back I was on at $26, beaten a half length by flying destiny, makes you sick. And then after that, uh I was on again behind midnight in Tokyo, $5 J Mac on, couldn't run a drum, get out of my life, but I do uh chuck it in the quaddy out of respect because chances are I'm gonna get burnt alive uh by one of those two. But uh yeah, pretty keen here, boys. I think Oak Hill and Brudnell uh to end the day uh at Eagle Farm in the Healy.
SPEAKER_02All right, what about you, Josh? Uh last race of the carnival, how do you see it?
SPEAKER_03I'm with you, Nathan. I'm really keen, Oak Hill as well. It looks like it's the perfect run here. So Oak Hill on top at the $8. Um, we're all liking Manal in the group one and the Tatiara. Well, this all speed on Manal last start and was unlucky not to win, just missing behind on Common James there last start. Uh track and trip uh fourth up after a bit of a fresh in there. So fitness uh should be perfect right now. And yeah, I think just the Hayes Boys with Stacky on. Uh I'll take the $8. Oakill on top. I've got Pereel in for second, Nathan. I think this horse can bounce here. I want to forgive again. Last start on the heavy deck and the wide gate. That race was just dominated by horses on speed. Before that, I thought the two runs behind Sefrado and Flying Destiny were outstanding. Loves the track and trip and buckets more for golden at double figures. Yeah, that's one I think you can save on at a bit of a price there. So I'll probably be back in those two. Oakhill and Pereel. In for third, I'll put in Yellowbrick. Two very disappointing runs, though, after it won the Archer there over at Rockhampton. Maybe it will suit dropping back to the 1200, but I can't uh I can't put it on top after the last two runs behind Hadley Grange and Spicy Martini, although he was drawn wide in Group 1 racing, dropping back down in class and drawing a soft gate here for Tommy Berry. But I want to see it win again. But if you do like it, you're getting a really nice price there at the $7.50. And then in for fourth, I'm gonna put in, talk about nonnies, Nathan that don't win out of turn. In for fourth, I'm gonna put in number 15, Moravia. Now, this horse could run a bit of a race here. First up, Taylor Marshall for Mitch Freeman. Two really nice trials here, one Bayern Manal, and then it won its last trial, coming off a bit of a break here. Gate 13. It'll be interesting to see if they ride uh ride it quietly or if they push forward to the lead as a first out run for the prep. Um, but at $21, I'll put it in the numbers in there for fourth as a bit of a spec. I think it's one that could be a knockout hope in the race. But uh Oakill on top for me, and I'll probably a little saver on Pereal.
SPEAKER_02Alright, my numbers uh similar to you boys, but have gone with yellow brick on top. Uh, I just think now finally draws a barrier uh as well. That that was the main criticism I had for his last two race starts as well. It was obviously in very, very deep company there behind Headley Grange and Spicy Martini, respectively, uh, and drew atrocious on both occasions, had to get dragged back to last. I think now they can finally use that barrier. Um barrier two, Tommy Berry jumps uh back on board this horse as well, he's won on him uh in the in the past, so just ticks boxes for me, and then Oak Hill as well as my main saver for everything you boys have outlined. Um I've chucked in uh Brudenelle in there for third, and then in for fourth, I've chucked in number 16 about to explode uh for the singer, Robbie Dolan, uh for Tony Golan trains. Um yeah, last start comes out of that midnight from Tokyo race as well. Uh I think gets back onto a soft uh softer ground, goes well uh at Eagle Farm as well. Um and yeah, honestly, you could probably just hit field in this race and yeah, watch the likes of King Esparta return back to his brilliant best. Um yeah, how does he find himself in a race like this? I do not believe it. Um that's it in terms of the races that we're covering, but we've got to be leaving the punters with some best bets. So, Nate, I'll come to you first. Best bets this weekend. Where are they lobbying?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we've done our work at Eagle Farm Boys. We put the queue on the rack for that meeting. I've got two at Rose Hill, I've got one at Caulfield. We'll start at Caulfield, we'll go there for the best value runner of the day for mine. An interesting import uh that I've got my eye on. We're going to race number seven on the program. This one is a benchmark uh 78 over the 1700 meters. Race seven number three, a horse called Think Giant. Now, this one has been transferred to the Price and Mick Kent Jr. team. A very interesting German import, this one. Um was a two-time winner over the uh, pardon me, it was a winner in France, pardon me, at Chanti before going to Germany. I won a race over there too at class one level. Ended up running in essentially what's a a uh a German derby uh over there when beaten by Sabayan. Uh that was over 2400 metres. So the first up here is 1700, but I really like the two trials coming into this race. Two trials, both at Crambin, uh one over the 1200 metres, one over 1400 metres. And this son of Slope De Vega looks very forward. I think he's gonna be able to show up here and run a very, very bold race. Only around the $7 and $250 on the placeline, but do some shopping, you can get some decent odds. And in a race that looks pretty wide open, Medias your favourite, another one that I've been around that just hasn't been able to win. So it would probably beat me. But Fed Income. Uh, that's half the horses I've ever backed. Uh, yeah. So Think Giant for me. Uh looks like a very interesting runner here. First up at Caulfield. Want to see how it rocks up. And I'm thinking a fair enough price around that $7 to find out. So my best each way of the day, race seven, number three, Think Giant. Now we'll go back over to Rose Hill. I'll go with my my next best slash value race. We've got a race number five on the program for this one. This is a benchmark 78 for the field. And mayors over 1400 meters. And I'm actually having two bets. Uh, that's why I say that. But either way, boys, we're going to be looking for those lovely Cerise colours because they're the two that I'm going to be backing. Number one surfs up. It was a last start winner there with Sienna Grimer in the saddle. And I think she's got a terrific book at Rose Hill just quietly. She's got some great rides for Chris Wallace. So I think she might even be a jockey challenge contender on the weekend. But this number one surfs up. Finally got its win in a 72 against the girls' last boys' last start was a very, very good win over the 400 metres. Stays at 1400, goes up to the Phillies and May's 78 grade here. Has to carry 57.5 kilos after the claim, but I think can do it from barrier one. Just don't be caught in the coffin at Rose Hill, I think, and be peeling out and winning. And the other one I want to back is drawn out wide. And that's number 10, Sequista. I thought was excellent last start behind Earn to Byrne. Go look at that replay. Run up the backsides of every horse in that race. I thought finished off very well. Two starts at listed level, first and second up this campaign. Now comes back to benchmark company against the girls. They've obviously got a big opinion of this daughter of Di Argento. And I think at the $9, she's got to be a bet in a race like this. Brave knock after the claim, 55.5 kilos here. I think she's a major player. So I'm going to back both Surfs up and Sequista. And my best bet comes up in the race before. We're getting a really good price for the best bet as well, in my humble opinion. This is a benchmark 72 over the 1400 metres. A horse that I thought should have won last start. Again, I spoke about that lady, Santa Grimer. She wasn't on. It was Molly Fitzgerald. It was a little unlucky, but number six here, Tarzing, I think would be finishing off very, very well. I thought was excellent first up behind surfs up. I'm going to trust that form line here. Was again brilliant in behind. Held up, held up, eventually got clear. And even then was under a stranglehold going through the line. I think second up into the campaign, draws gatefired, get Sienna in the saddle, just hold that lovely midfield position with some cover, peel out and go bang. I'd be marking it favorite. Big Papa $4 at the moment. I could mark mine a bit shorter than that. I'd be happy to bet into around $3.50. I think it's a very, very keen bet here this weekend. Tarzing. Watch it be flying home. And hopefully you get the job done pretty early in the day at Rose Hill. Maxie.
SPEAKER_02All right. What about you, Josh? Best bets this weekend. Where are they lobbying?
SPEAKER_03I'm with you too, Nathan. I've followed the Siena Grimer bandwagon here this weekend. I'm sticking in Sydney and I'm making my best bet. I'm with you. Race four, number six tarsing my best bet of the weekend there. I really loved the first up run there behind surfs up. Unlucky not to win, as you mentioned, and has that second-up profile when it's second up in Melbourne in its first preparation there. So draws a lovely gate there in gate five. Should be able to run well from there. Handles good and soft decks. And $4.60, I think, is a fairly good price there for Tarzan. So I'll make it the best bet. Then I've got a couple of failure runners, boys. We're going to go to race number seven, which is an 800 meter benchmark 78. And I'm sticking with us. Sienna Grimer with an awkward style horse. Number five, Golden Century. Do some shopping. You're getting $13 around the grounds on some bookmakers, which I think is quite a bit of good failure there. I really like the first run there last start when it ran 50 to 1,500 metres behind Emirate. And I think second up, stepping up to the 1800 metres should suit from a soft gate. I think they should be able to push forward, get a nice position, and then each way price. I think Golden Century might be able to get the job done at a nice price there. And then in the lucky last, we're going to go for another fairly runner. I like two actually in this race. So we're going to start with number two, Hollywood Hero. I really like the run there first up. Hippos on this weekend. But the first up run I thought was enormous there behind cool Jakey, making a ton of ground late. Has good form at Rose Hill. Second up forms quite good as well for six starts for two wins and two placements. And around the $8, I think, is a nice play there. And at a bit of value, I'll be saving with number 12, Spione. I think this horse is going really well. Just gets too far back in its runs, but its last three runs have been outstanding. Ran third by Nasgarter there at Hawkesbury. Then I thought was enormous behind God's window there at Ramwick. Then it went down to Sydney and just couldn't make the grand there from the back to get over the top of Road Conan Hill rip back up to Sydney now on a track that's not as wet as it has been. And I think from Gate 11, if Schiller can get some cover at around the $9, $10, I think you can get a good run there out of those two. So they're my best bets for the weekend. Tarzan, Golden Century, and I'll be back in both Hollywood Hero and Spione and the last there at Rose Hill.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm going to Rose Hill for more my best bets as well. Lining up similar to you boys. I didn't have Tarzan, but I had surfs up in there for my best bet for the weekend. Race number five, horse number one, surfs up, Sienna Grimer. Other best bets on the card as well. Go to race three. This is a benchmark 72. I've gone with horse number seven here, boys, having its fifth race start in Jarito. Alicia Collett for Bjorn Baker camp. Really, really nice Philly here. I'm invincible out of Sprigott or Sprite, I should say. Last start, it was a really good win there at the midweeks. Now finds itself back at 72 level, right up to this race. In my opinion, if all goes well. And then I'll go to the feature. We go to the McKel Cup here and going with the Walla Camp here. Only got one runner in this race after they scratch Rhodogilla. And it's horse number four in God's window. Yes, it's the favourite. But K Mac, God's window, it should be winning this race on all conditions. It's love the heavy deck. Looking at the weather here in Sydney. It says a good four at the moment, but it's been raining all today. It's going to be raining all tomorrow, and it's probably going to be raining on Saturday. So I reckon we're going to be in that soft seven, heavy, eight sort of range, and that plays perfectly for God's Window. You're getting 260 seems short, but I reckon it's going to be starting odds on because this looks a very, very uh average field to be lobbing up in this listed race. So that's the way I'm going. Jeez, we should have done the uh form for the Ram, we're sorry, for the Rose Hill meeting, boys. Uh, we tipped all the winners, all our best bets going around there. Um, Nate, thanks so much for joining us as always, mate.
SPEAKER_01No, appreciate it, Maxie. Uh Sun God into God's window, perhaps. Maybe a little multi uh with those two. Maybe get a bit of value if the if the money comes for God's window. But no, looking forward to this weekend. Obviously, it's been a minute since we've gotten together, so it's been a pleasure, boys. Thank you so much for joining uh for this week's podcast. Uh a lot to recap and a lot to dissect, and hopefully a few winners found.
SPEAKER_02Yes, certainly a lot to touch on with all that's got last week, Josh. But uh oh, hopefully plenty more winners this weekend.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's it. Great racing. But this weekend, very good as well, boys. Wishing the Socceros luck tomorrow afternoon, boys, against Paraguay. Hopefully, we can get through to the to the knockout stage there. And yeah, in a couple weeks' time, boys, glorious Goodwood. So the racing just keeps rolling around. Boys can't wait for it. Yes, that's it.
SPEAKER_02Thanks so much for joining us, and as always, good luck on the punt. We are right to run. Red light now. Ready to run.
SPEAKER_00They're all set and they're up and racing. The gates crash back in Wagga Wagga.
