Ordinarily Extraordinary - Conversations with women in STEM
We’re Kathy Nelson and Linda LaTourelle — co-hosts of Ordinarily Extraordinary: Conversations with Women in STEM.
Kathy, an electrical engineer, launched the podcast in 2020 to share real, unfiltered stories of women working across STEM disciplines. Now with over 130 episodes, the mission remains the same: to amplify the voices of ordinary women doing extraordinary work in science, technology, engineering, and math.
We’re deeply committed to:
- Normalizing the presence of women in STEM by making their stories visible
- Building community for women who may be the only ones like them in their workplace
- Educating listeners about the wide variety of STEM careers — and what they actually look like
- Empowering growth and retention by addressing the challenges behind the leaky pipeline
From early-career professionals to experienced leaders, our guests share how they got started, how they’ve grown, and what they’ve learned along the way. This podcast is a space where women in STEM can be seen, heard, and supported — because representation isn’t just powerful, it’s essential.

62. Gina Covarrubias - Life Coach, former Aerospace Engineer; BS Aerospace Engineering, MS Mechanical Engineering
Gina Covarrubias works with people in STEM who are looking for some guidance and direction in their career path. She uses her own life experiences as a young aerospace engineer who never found the right fit in engineering to help others who find themselves in similar situations. She pivoted from engineering into a life coaching program and launched her business Deliberate Doing in Fall of 2019.
Episode Notes
With a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Gina was expecting to find her dream job and career. Over the course of many types of jobs, she found herself feeling lost, disappointed, and frustrated. After taking a daring leap, she quit her profession and spent some time soul searching through introspection and self education. She stumbled upon life coaching not knowing anything about the field. It instantly resonated and Gina decided to pursue a life coaching program.
In Fall 2019, she launched her coaching and speaking business for the STEM individual who is experiencing career disappointment, confusion or despair just like she used to. Gina uses a holistic life coaching program to help people understand how mentality affects their career. While a career coach typically helps a client find their next job, Gina helps a client find themselves.
She shares the importance of creating internal fulfillment prior to seeking external fulfillment from a career.
