Angela Baltes is a Data Scientist/Analyst specialization in generating insight from data. She has a Bachelor's Degrees in Criminology, a Master's Degrees in Public Administration, a Master's Degree in Information Technology, and a PhD in Biomedical Informatics with an emphasis in Public Health Informatics. She is a new mom who just began pursuing another degree in mathematics - all while working full time!

Angela recently had her first baby...two weeks later she began pursuing a degree in mathematics. Two months after her baby was born she returned to work. We talk about how becoming a mom and how it affects your career, postpartum depression, and the challenges of adjusting to motherhood.

She shares how she was told she wasn't good at math when she was younger and was "math shamed" so she didn't pursue careers that required math. She talks about how much she enjoys math and how she has a much different experience with math courses as an adult.

The École Polytechnique massacre (French: tuerie de l'École polytechnique), also known as the Montreal massacre, was a 1989 antifeminist mass shooting in Montreal at an engineering school affiliated with the Université de Montréal. On December 6, 1989, Marc Lépine entered a mechanical engineering class at the École Polytechnique and ordered the women and men to opposite sides of the classroom. He separated nine women, instructing the men to leave. He stated that he was "fighting feminism" and opened fire. He shot at all nine women in the room, killing six.
