Speaker 2:Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of faith on fire again. I'm your host Rob Dawson. Listen in the building today, man. We got one of probably the most anointed, the most powerful brothers that I've ever come in contact with. We got Canton Jones in the house today. Mad cat. And it's so good to see you, brother, man. So good to have you on the show, man, for having me, Rob. Man, this, this is good, bro. I like, I, I'm already loving the intro at all coming from you being an artist, man, that means a lot because, uh, we, we put a lot of time into that. Uh, for those who are listening, if you don't know Canton Jones, I know many of you do, especially if you're in the gospel church or Christian community. But for those you who may be new to the faith or not as familiar with this man and Jones man is a Grammy nominated seller war winner. He's a pastor. He's a man of God. He's a family man. I do know that. Um, you know, him and his wife do ministry together, his kids do ministry with them. Uh, just a lot of exciting things going on. And I'm so excited to have you on the show, man. I gotta tell you the way that I first came across your ministry was back in like, man, like Oh three Oh four. Oh wow. Yeah, yeah. When did you actually come out with the password, by the way? Some people don't know about the faster password droplet. Oh four. Yeah, right around MegaFest the first MegaFest I love it. I love it. So if you remember, I was about roughly six, I was about 17, 18 at the time when I was introduced to your music. And you came to the spirit of faith Christian center where my pastor, pastor Mike Freeman, you were at a youth conference. You remember the youth conference? I think it was called under construction. If I'm, if I'm correct. Well, let me tell you, man, being 17 years old, having listened to hip hop pretty much my whole life, I've been, I've been listening to hip hop since I was like eight, nine years old. Man, I'm talking about my, my first cassette tape was like dr Dre Conoco's a Snoop doggy dog doggy style. I'm telling you, I go back with it and, and to have given up my music, I had just laid all of my secular music at the author. Right, right. And I come to this youth conference and you're on stage man. I mean like what's the password? And like really just drawling the young people in with, with an attraction, right. With, with something that they're used to hearing, but it's got the word of God all up in it. Right. And it was life changing for me because I had never seen that many young people on fire for Jesus and, and it was impactful and it was life changing. I went out and got your album right after that. I remember I had the gold cover on it. The yellow is go and uh, you know that. Yeah, that one skit. It was like, what's the password? What's the password? Jeez, Jesus. So man, talk to me. What, what was your faith journey like? Like when did you get saved? When, when did, what, what ignited your faith? When did you get to know the Lord? Like, I would love for the listeners to know how your faith journey began.
Speaker 3:Well, I, I, I'm from, um, a place called Deerfield beach, Florida, South Florida, which is maybe I guess 30, 40 miles North of Miami. Um, and between Boca Raton for a lot of Del, so I grew up in church, actually. My mom had gotten saved, my dad was, uh, singing in a quartet group and we grew up, uh, in church, you know, we were, we were the ones that, you know, my mom went to every church, everything, you know, and, you know, we, we grew up in church. Um, of course being in church doesn't make you have a relationship with God, you, you know, of them. So I, I believe that church just put a much, uh, helped me to know God. Um, and you know, when you, when you know God, you can, you can know him as creator, you can know him as Lord, but I didn't know him as father, you know, which is more of an intimate relationship. So, you know, I did my thing. Um, you know, I, I'm actually at one of them youth conferences, bro, you know, slipped up, lost my virginity at one of those. So, um, you know, church was a different thing for us back then, you know, as kids, as teenagers. But you still had your times where you Patrick experiences, uh, you was here. Uh, see your mom prays and God, my dad was in a quartet group and he kept, kept us traveling with him and so that was good. But it wasn't until I got to college, bro and I got to college, um, and started, I left church altogether and was producing music. I was producing all the neighborhood cats, some of the dope boys in the city. Uh, when I came to Atlanta, I left, I left home. And, uh, you know, after just living that lifestyle for a while, uh, met my wife, who was my at the time, and she started taking me to world changes. Um, and where I started getting the word and you know, she was a very, very stern and saying that, you know, you know, why don't you come to church with me? Uh, you know, especially kind of saying that if you want to be with me, come to church. I was gone. And, uh, you know, it was, it was, it was, to be honest with you, at first it was boring to me because I was used to people running around doing flips in church. I wasn't really conditioned to sit and get the word, you know, without somebody just hollering and screaming. I wasn't conditioned to somebody teaching the word. So, um, but man, he started saying some stuff that really made sense and it started to feed my spirit and my life started to change. Um, we, we were living out of wedlock. We began to, you know, we got married, you know, we say, man, let's just do this thing. Especially after nine, 11, well, nine, 11 hit, I believe everybody got saved. I was in that second building when I second floor to that building. I was like, Oh yeah, the world is getting ready to end. Let me get, let me go ahead and make this thing serious. So we got married, a very humble wedding at my cousin's house and we just started changing what we could, you know, just piece out the piece. And, uh, and I, when I read dedicated, God told me that, you know, get into the choir. Imagine I had these, uh, and I had, you know, my book bag with all my beats in it, you know, backpack, cat, you know, and, you know, in the choir, just try to make it as masculine as I can, you know.
Speaker 2:Yeah. I, I got to see a bunch of that. I need you to send me a Fisher that we put on the screen.
Speaker 3:I mean, I, I know some people put me, uh, singing in the choir, but, you know, just, you know, and then just through being obedient or one thing led to another, you know, Lord told me, you know, I could start doing music, but, uh, due to music, you know, I can, I can keep my sound but put his words in it, you know, and, and my lifestyle changing, bro,
Speaker 2:notice you said obedience through, through my obedience. A lot of people miss the fact. Um, you know, dr Mike says says this, he says, obedience is the covenant connector. See, a lot of people miss the importance of obedience, right? If you hook all throughout scripture, you know, in the life of Noah, Joseph, uh, David, there were times when there was a decision they had to make or whether they were going to obey God or they were going to do it their way. And oftentimes you see that there's a harvest attached to your obedience, but you got to obey and see. Oftentimes people want to delay in their obedience and then think it's still obedience. That that's, that's a delayed obedience is still disobedience. Right, right, right. So, but, but people, if more people would make the decision to obey God, I feel like they would see the promises of God manifest more in their life because there's so much inheritance attached to your obedience.
Speaker 3:Yeah. Sometimes, sometimes people don't see obedience and they don't see it lived out, so they don't understand it. You know, sometimes when you hear the voice, the Bible says, you know, you hear a voice of the Lord and the voice of a stranger you will not follow. And so when you don't see obedience, not my, you know, not necessarily my parents. You know, my parents are doing what they do. I'm not, you don't necessarily know that God is telling dad to do what was working for the family. You don't know that. You're not necessarily knowing that God is speaking to pastor to do specific things. And I mean you, you, you hear it and it becomes cliche. God told me, God told me to do this and I did this. God told me to do this. But when you literally follow the voice of God because you've tried to do it your own way, you know? And when God tells you to do something and it works and you obey that regimen, especially if nobody else is doing what you're doing, you know, that's how your faith becomes, you know? That's how your faith get lit. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, that's good. Especially when you do one thing and it works. You know, you're like, God told me and that God told me thing works. That's a whole nother world has opened up to you. You know? So that's kind of what happened to me. That's what happened to me. You know? I started doing one thing after the other and just started working and my life changed.
Speaker 2:So what I heard as you were saying that it creates a faith momentum in your life. One thing works, boom. You start creating momentum. And momentum is an amazing thing because when you add momentum to anything, it's like it creates what would normally be an addition or subtraction process becomes a multiplication process where now you begin to see exponential growth. Where before you might see in a little bit of growth, but the more you keep obeying, the more you keep flowing and moving in. When he has you to do, you begin to see this explosion of growth in your life.
Speaker 3:That's why, and that's why I'm glad you said that because that's why religion, it's so dangerous because religion is a monotony or or a, um, I guess something that you do repetitiously without any insight, without any guidance, without anybody or anything adjusted you just doing what you do because you did it last time and you know, as a, as opposed to being in a relationship with God what God said. All right. I know I've told you to do this last time, but I want you to do it this way, this time. I want you to tweak this and that's being on a journey that's being in a relationship, not necessarily being in religion. When you're in religion, you can't hear you just, you just, you're just based on autopilot. Autopilot, which is the most dangerous thing to say as a Christian, you know? Because autopilot means, okay, God told me to do something and okay, it works. I'm going to do this forever for the rest of my life and now there's no God that's going to help me and got me.
Speaker 2:That's like the story of David and I believe it's in the book of Samuel, but when I was studying the life of David, there were multiple times where the enemy would rise up against him, right? And God would say this time the Bible would say he would inquire of the Lord and the guy would say, I want you to do it this way. Then notice after he defeated his eminent enemy, he didn't go back and do it the same way. He inquired of the Lord again and God said, no. This time I want you to go to roundabout, come behind them jokers and defeat him. And it's like oftentimes many believers, like you said, we're doing religion over relationship instead of relationship over religion. And as a result, we're just on autopilot and we're not seeing the results. So, so this is good. Let me dive in and let's talk a little bit about your latest project power man. Let me tell you that, that that project, that album right there is like on repeat for me right now and uh, you know, it's, it's so top of mind because I think you would agree with this depending upon the season and we're like in that we are in life, we tend to like have maybe three or four go to albums or artists or songs that we listened to right now. And for me, man, when I'm in the gym or I'm on my run, like I was sharing with you in the pre-interview this morning, I was on the run and I think I first I started off with some worship, believe it or not. Sometimes I listen to worship when I run and then I was like, man, I'm about to run these Hills real quick. I need some, I need something to bang to, you know, something a rocket. So I throw on that power man. And that breakthrough track came on for me. And I got to tell you, that song is so powerful because you say something in the song. I wrote down the lyrics here. Uh, as I was listening to it, you said, death in life for in the tongue, death and life are in the song. I will never walk in fear. I believe that it's here. Look now anybody needed a breakthrough. Anybody needed a breakthrough. Breakthrough is in the building. Breakthrough is in the building. So talk to me, what was your motivation for right for writing that song and then also segue into this album. Like, like, like why power, you know what I mean? And, and, and what did you really want to communicate to people and to our audience that this is why I wrote, this is why I wrote this music. This is why I put it out to the world because of what
Speaker 3:so bright, so breakthrough when I was doing power. Um, power is the second part. So to, uh, uh, two-part record is really called and I do, you'll learn a lot about me in this age, but I do everything in code, which means there's always two or three reasons why I do certain things. Love it. Alright. Um, so power is a record dedicated to my dad. Ghost is dedicated to my mom. Um, uh, justice is my son. Um, God's city, which is Canaan, which is the name that was on, uh, the, the zoom that, that time, that's my son. Dominion, air dominion. That's my son. Um, love Jones. That's my daughter. So, you know, at 20 years, three months, 12 web days, that was my first independent record. That's the day I met my wife. So, so, um, there were only three, uh, I think two of my records that I named and coin experiences with God, that's password and kingdom business where I had experiences with God. Everything else is family. Alright. And so power completes my 20 year journey of family through records. It's like a puzzle. Um, and so power is about, is about my dad. Um, when I was building this record and, and doing this record goes to the record before, which nobody's really heard of because I w I did it in morning to my mom. I was mourning her, her past, she went to, she went home to be with the Lord in 2017 to be out in front of bodies, to be present with the Lord. I know we laid hands on mom, tried to bring her back. She would beat all of us if we, if she, we brought her back. So she was like, I was at the feet of Jesus. I kill all y'all. Everybody lined up. You don't get one big win with Jesus right now and I'm not tripping.
Speaker 2:What? You don't know what's so powerful about that and I appreciate you putting out that record even more. And now when I go back and listen to it, I'm going to listen to it with a different ear. This podcast is in honor of my mom in launch in launches, uh, June 1st B. That's my mom's birthday. That was the last day I saw her last year. That was the last time I ever saw my mom on June 30 if I get a call from a mom at nine 30 in the morning, had an amazing two minute conversation with her. Even that lunch that I have with her on her birthday was, was one of the most amazing experiences. I'll never forget my daughter and I drove to Delaware. We had lunch with her. We laughed, we played UNOS, we cracked up, we hugged me, embraced. And that call that I got on June 30th was the last time I ever spoke to my mom. Well, and, and I share this with people like you. I have the revelation that I learned from my pastor that to be absent from the body is to be with the Lord. And they are right now worshiping God in heaven, like literally at the feet of the King, like gold paved streets and like chilling, hanging out, like rejoice in it. You know what I'm saying? Like enjoying that life, eternal life for us. We mourn because of that separation and we miss him, right? But when you have a revelation of who God is and that they had a relationship with the Lord, you can actually rejoice for their life. You can appreciate, you know, what they instilled in us. But man, I appreciate you sharing that because this is why I do what I do. My mom, my girls are huge motivation for my life. Like I always call my mom, my wife and my daughter Victoria. My girls, like they're, they're part of my why, why I breathe, why, why I do business while I go hard. Why I grind, which I know is a case of you. Cause I know how important your family is and I think you put in your album names and code is a Testament to that. So thanks for sharing that man. But I just wanted to share a little bit of my story with you.
Speaker 3:No, that was good. That was good. Yeah. So, so, so, so when you listen to ghost, um, it's all in there. Like my family can listen to my records entail where I am in life. And you know, different people, you know, fans listen to it and they just listened to it for music. But there are, there are things that's happening on the music. Um, one of the, one of the, I guess the main record in, um, ghost is the record called beyond the stars. Um, and I'm saying, I believe you're there even though you're light years away from me, you can still hear me and it's really, it's sounds like I'm singing to God and I, and I am, but I'm singing. So my mom that's sitting next to God, you know, like, I know you can hear me. I know he can hear me, but I know you. And it's like, it's like, it's like the whole, uh, when, when you hear we're from Florida and uh, of course hurricanes are, you know, so you hear, uh, you might hear the storm and some of the uh, records where, um, I'm brought my mom to Atlanta to get away from the storm and then she passed away actually in Atlanta, you know, so you can hear that in some of the music. You might hear the beaches cause we were from Deerfield beach, which is right next to the beach. So all of that other stuff that's in there is for a symbolic of, of the just me going through the process of loving on my mom and you know, 12 songs, even one of those songs at the end. Uh, it's called thank you. The last record, um, and my mom was an English teacher, so most of the times I used to uh, mess up the English language, just a mess with her. She was going to college because my mom went to college late. She put all of us through school and then started going back to school when we were in like high school. So she'll come back and be like, it's not, ain't, it's in and out of that type of stuff. So we just try to mess with her. Cause she was an English major. That's a good mom though. That's a good, perfect mom man. But on the end of the record, when we submitted it, we misspelled the word thank you. And if you look up, if you look up, um, the ghost record, the last song, it's called thank you. And it's spelled wrong. T H. N. A. K. A. Thank you. And um, uh, we caught it and we could have, we could fix it. We had time, we caught it and it was enough time to fix it. And I was like, I said, leave it man. Because what my mom used to do is grade papers and it would have that red ink on all our papers and stuff. And I could just see her circling that and I just leave it. So talk about that red ink for a second. You know, and segue that into power because there's a lot of power in the, in the red, in the blood, in the love in the past. Let's talk about that. And I would get, and I'm going to get into the lyrics. I took a long way to get to your answer, but, but that Ray definitely is the blood and it's, it's, it's, but, but that Ray also for her was, was correction. You know, sometimes when you can't handle correction, you might think that you're right when you're really wrong, you know, and so some Scott always put people around you to red ink your life, you know, and, and the dangerous part about life, man and sometimes about men is they don't want anybody to correct them or they don't want anybody to assist them or they don't want anybody to tell them anything. So you become your own God, which is dangerous. And so, um, the Bible says that you'll, you'll have, uh, you know, you don't have counsel of the ungodly, but you do have counsel, you know, you know, you make wise decisions based off counsel. And so, uh, the lyrics that you were talking about. So, so ghost, well, power is the continuation of ghosts. It's not because of the movie power, I mean the television. So power goes to being one of the NA is based off of acts one eight and you shall receive power after that. The Holy ghost has come upon you. You know, that's where[inaudible] breakthrough breakthrough is actually the last song that I wrote on the record. Um, okay. When I was like I said, coming out of the mourning process, I had a song and it, the energy level of that song was very high based off of word ghost Wars. And after I went through the process of making all of the records, when I went back into listening to some of those songs, I could tell how just heard I was, because the energy level was so low, even though I thought it was high, it was higher in ghosts, but it was so low compared to all the other songs. So, um, I'm just in my spirit just pulled off maybe two or three songs to replace them with higher energy songs. And what came into my spirit. We were on a fast, I know, forget we're on a fast and the Lord is telling me breakthrough is here breakthrough. And so, um, most of the songs that I write, you know, all the songs that I write now, I don't really do paper. I kind of just write it in my head and say it, you know, and go bang, it's no different. It doesn't make you a, I'm not the freestyle and type. I just write and say it and then write it and say it in my head and say it. You know, it's not necessarily a freestyle. You're still writing. You're just not writing on paper. And so God was downloading what was happening. I feel it. I'm feeling like this is my moment, my time, believe that I'm ready. I put in the grind, I am a diamond and I'm about to shout. It's happening. Oh my God, I am the next one in line then. And then the beat drops. And so all of this, um, you know, and, and, and they says, life and death, your, your lyrics, life and death is in the tone, which is scripture and life and death is in the song, which means it's the same power. That's what they're using. Life and death. So to control us by music. And so God is sending the same life and death is in this song. And I believe that it's here. What's here? Breakthrough is here now, right after that, the pandemic. Right, right. And I'm like, wow, breakthrough. So breakthrough now, now, and I hate to say this part, I know where you're going. I know where you're going, but I know our world is in a crisis. Yeah. I know that the country and people are dying. I did a funeral for somebody that was affected by[inaudible]. Hmm. Um, uh, the other day and my heart goes out to people, but me and my family, I have never had this much risk. I've never had this much peace. I've never had this type of relationship with my family and my entire life. Wow. Where the w there's darkness somewhere. See everybody, but everybody's not struggling in this thing. Right. You know, and, and, and there are people being healed from Cove, then more people is being healed than being, being taken out. And so we have to learn to give the glory to God for the miracles that's happening. And so there's more breakthrough that's happening right now probably in the history of medicine for people being healed. There's more people being saved. There are more miracles that's happening right now. Yes. You see what I'm saying? You get a miracle. You get a miracle. I will stop. And, and to be honest with you, that, uh, uh, Oprah, that you get a miracle breakthrough in a song called did it again. Okay. On the record was the last three songs to take out the other low energy. The songs had good energy, but they, they, they ha they were low energy songs for me because, um, you know, I felt like my morning time was over. Now it's time to celebrate and now calibrate. I'm with my mom and my dad. So that's,
Speaker 2:I want to go, that's where I want to go. So as you were talking, as I was listening to that song and I was paying close attention to the lyrics, here's what I heard God saying recently. He spoke this to me. I was on a run and literally I stopped, right and I'm like worshiping God. I'm kind of fellowshipping with the father and Kent and he tells me to look up. He goes, look up, look at the trees. I'm like, okay God, I see the trees. He said, look down, look at the grass. I'm like, okay, I see the grass and I said, God, what you, what you want me to see? He said, it's a new season. It's like he said, it's a new season. He said, notice that the flowers are blooming, the trees, the leaves are coming in, the grass is green, the that the ants and the birds are out like hanging out, like having a good time because in the natural it's a new season, but he said it's also an indication of what's taking place in the spiritual right now. He said, it's a new season. And to combine that with your song, it's breakthrough is happening right now. There's a shift taking place in the spiritual and in the natural. And the people would embrace it, the season and embrace what God's trying to do in them and through them. Man, we'll begin to see impact as a body of Christ like we've never seen before. I believe on the face of this earth there, there's, there's revivals that are taking place. There's revival that's coming. Um, pastor the Debbie grant, she's actually our, our um, she heads up the prayer of our ministry. She said that there's a revival of the mind, this taking place right now. The God wants us to revive and restore, you know, our mind, our so, and get that in line with his word. And then when this thing opens back up, we can go out and be the better versions of ourselves, the stronger versions of ourselves, and be everything
Speaker 3:that God has called us to be, man. So I think that song and those lyrics are so appropriate for the time that we're in. Praise God, man. And I feel like, um, w the power record, like I said, it represented my dad. My dad, uh, was a quartet guy. So most of the, uh, uh, you know, on that song, the Southern move, Southern shifting and then the harmonies that's court that that court said sign, that's that um, Oprah was his favorite. You know, back in the day when they used to have say this before you, they used to have on VCR tape. Yeah. My daddy used to take Oprah every day, bro. Say Oprah does. That was his favorite show. You know, we'd get in trouble if we messed up his tape and he wanted to see Oprah at the coming from work. And so, uh, that's why we did the opera song, you know? But we also believe that, you know, gosh, about to start passing out miracles done. The trip about it is, I didn't know that. I didn't know that this Cobra thing was getting ready to happen. And you know, so it's amazing that the mirror, the, how many miracles have been passed out during this thing, you know, and how many people have been healed. And, and so, you know, it's just so much going on. I posted on my Instagram the other day, a young lady walking away from a car accident, you can see her car flipped over a SUV. It broke the pure praise. She speaking in tongues, people trying to help her as people all over and she's just giving God the praise. And I was like, that's a miracle. That's a miracle that's happening. So, um, but, but the bigger picture, well this whole thing from dominion air from my wife's record, my kids record is the family. And I believe that the overall revival is going to happen. Not when you get to church, but in your household. I believe. I believe that if you can't have revival at the house, then you can have the revival at the church. You know, because that's your first churches. So I believe that God called everybody in the timeout. Y'all did enough church, you need to go home and teach the kids, teach your kids what you know about Jesus. I mean it's, a lot of us could get our doctorate in theology, but our kids don't even know the name of God, you know? And so we have to, uh, you know, one of the things that I felt like I was so, uh, uh, convicted about is re, um, I guess just getting back involved with my family to the point. Whereas daily we have conversations, you know, it's one thing to be a dad corporately to tell the family, alright family, we're doing this, we're going this place. But it's a different thing to go to each child individually to find out what each individual child needs, like their, their, their favorite color, all of that. And so that's been one of the things that God has been on me about to find out the specifics of my family, to bring my family together. Uh, so that when revival hits the, uh, the revival one is not going to hit the church if it hadn't hit your family.
Speaker 2:That's right. Right. Let's, let's, let's elaborate a little bit on that. As you were talking, I want the listeners, I want our audience to really hear, to not miss this moment in what you're saying, that that God set up family in the beginning and notice it was when he created Adam and everything else and then came Eve, right? The wife did. He said it's all good. It's all good. So, so, so God sees family as ministry first before you going out preaching and teaching to somebody else like the listeners need to know that. And then to something you just said is so powerful. This is a success principle. If your family's jacked up, your business or your ministry is going to be jacked up. I need people to know that. And, and what I heard is you said, you said it's important to know this, the specifics of each individual child, the specifics of my wife, I need to know what her love language is. I need to know what my kids love languages. I need to know what their interests are, right? Because Jesus, when he hung out with the disciples, he dwelled with them. He knew their strengths, their weaknesses, their nuances, the details that are life. I God knows even the hairs on our head, he knows the number. So God is a detailed God. Right. And as you were talking, I don't want people to miss that. That you got to go deeper in your relationships today. Yeah, you got to go deeper in your conversations. I'm so engaged and locked into this conversation right now. Everything else around me doesn't matter. Well I'm present. I'm present with you right now, man. I want to know you as, as my brother and Christ. I want to know you as a pastor. I want to know how I can assist you in ministry. Like that's where my mind is right now and I, and I love, I love what you're saying. So family, it's definitely a key. So I want to segue for the sake of time cause you know I got to have you back on the show, right? Not going to be the last time I go into that. Todd, there's so much that I want to talk with you about, man. So real quick, we're going to do something. I call the hot seat. All right, so we're going to switch up the flow, the hot seat. I'm going to fire a series of random questions at you. All right? Can we just try to have fun with it? We're going to have fun with it and we're going to just dive in. So we're in the hot seat right now. Normally on the production side of it, you hear this fire, this fire siren that goes off, right? So this is the hot seat. So my first question is a question that my daughter actually gave me. I said, Hey honey, if you could ask Canton Jones one thing, what would it be? She said, daddy asked Canton Jones what is either his best or favorite song that he's ever created?
Speaker 3:Wow. Um, uh, it's always the last song. So for me,
Speaker 2:that's good. That's good. My best song is always the last song. So, Hey, the last dance, right? You gotta treat it like it's your last game. I actually wrote a song for the last dance, bro. I'm a drought. I can't wait. I can't wait man. I can't wait. I love it. I love it. All right. What's your favorite scripture, man? What's your favorite scripture?
Speaker 3:Wow, man. Ron was 81 yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit and, and, and so that, that scripture kind of saved my life coming from or more traditional type of church and not understanding the scriptures. I thought I was going to go to hell for everything. So I had to just, you know, in my process of learning and have building my relationship with God, I had to forgive myself for a lot of stuff that I did in my past.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Going from that sin consciousness to that righteousness conscious, one of my best books I ever read in my life when I was like 19 I read the image of righteousness from, from dr dollar. From, from, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That's a Creflo. And it changed my life forever because it shifted that paradigm that I had like you where I was always feeling condemned when I was seeing her do wrong. And it led me to better understand who I was. Because if you understand that you're already good, if you understand that you're already in him, you know it's like you do good because you are good. You're not striving to do good. You understand who you are in him to the righteousness of God and it changes your behavior.
Speaker 3:Oh that so, okay. So check this up. When my wife brought me to church, yeah, that's what he was preaching though. The book that came out of out of that was the sermons that he was preaching and that's what made me sit up. Like what is he talked like? Is this in the Bible that my mom wouldn't, that's in the same Bible like, like and that, that's the sermon series that changed my life.
Speaker 2:That's amazing. Yeah. That book changed my life too. So if you guys are listening, go pick up the image of righteousness. It's hard to find cause it came out like over like over almost two decades ago. But, but it's phenomenal. Definitely recommend it. A couple other quick ones. What is maybe one of the funniest or most embarrassing things that's ever happened to Canton Jones? It may be, most people don't know about you. Like what's, what's a funny moment or the,
Speaker 3:yeah, she's, she heard you ask that question. She's not in her head. It's a list of them, bro. I got a lot of I gotta it comes to mind. Right. Okay. One of the ones that come to mind, um, I guess to get to get on with it. My, um, my, my dude, um, his name is Vic Vic. He does the song wobble, the wobble baby Vick is my dude. We, uh, he went to world changes with it. He was actually my barber for a long time. Wow. And my brother, he was on kingdom business too. Uh, he's done some music with me and so when he got signed before he did that song, he got signed and we were always trying to, you know, talk about losing weight, playing basketball. We play basketball together all the time. So he bought that belt that shocks you to make that bill. He was like,[inaudible], we'll cut my hair. And he was like, bro, I got this belt bro. And then like, he was like, in two weeks I got a six pack and so bro, you need to get this belt. I was like, man, I ain't nah bro. Like it's sending electric shocks two years. Like yeah, but it ain't that bad. But bro just makes you contract you. So me and my wife who was at the mall, I was like, you know, it was in there shopping and the store was called as seen on TV, which sells all these gadgets and stuff. So I bought two, right? So I bought two of them. Um, you know, we got home, you know, I'm like, man, let me see what this is about. I don't even think big heard the story yet. Let me see what this is about. So my wife was in, uh, in the bedroom for one. She's particularly this day, she has the TV up very, very loud. And I'm usually the one with the TV up loud and she likes to listen to it low. This, this day, the TV is blasted. So because the TV is blasting, you know, I ain't thinking nothing of it. I take the stuff out, they have this little oil, this little jail that you put on your stomach, you know, and I took the belt and I put the gun. I got the Joe too. I got the, don't tell me you got one of these belts bro bro. No I ain't got the belt. I got the jail though. I got the belt, I put the belt on, I put the batteries in the belt and then you can press plus for more power minus for less power. So right. So most of the stuff that I buy from these stores don't work and it's like crash anyway. And they always feel like they got your money, like you know, cause they see it as trash. So I thought it didn't work and I put it on oppressed. Plus I was reading directions and I'm like looking at the belt and it was like, man, that don't work. So I press plus again and I'm looking like, man ain't doing nothing. I saw it. It was on right. I got angry at like, man, let's just press plus like seven or eight times like man, don't work. And then all of a sudden bro, it kills me. So when it kicked it up in the closet, like my wife but the TV up loud, I'm in a dialer like I'm to shot and I got the belt line and uh, and man, I pulled it off and I go in there and start yelling like, girl, you don't care if I live or die. Shit. Like what is going on? Like that was the one of the most embarrassing moments to be alone. I've fallen off the stage before I've come out, I've come up on the stage with my zipper down. I've, I've done all kind of stuff, man. My life was funny man. Like when you kind of look at some of the stuff, but I hide it very well. Like my, it's, it's just, and that's just one story I got a lot of stories of just
Speaker 2:so I'm not going to leave you out there. One of my most embarrassing moments, I was like in the ninth or 10th grade, right? And I was one of the real popular dudes. I played basketball and football. You know, I, I would, I would, uh, wear tank tops of school. I was one of them dudes, you know, show off the triceps and biceps, you know, think I had it going on. And one day man, I got out of class and I really had to use the bathroom, right? And I'm like Jay to the bathroom trying to get to the restroom and then to class on top with a bell goes off, right. And I'm like, yo, I got to get the class. So I jet into the band for me. You know how a lot of times they had the men's and the ladies right next to each other or the boys and the girls. So I jet in and don't even notice there's no urinals in the bathroom. And I Jen into the stall and then I started looking around and his pink everywhere, right? And I'm in there and I'm like, I'm in here now, so I'm using the bathroom like, alright. And then I started here. I hear ladies walking in a bunch of girls walking to the bathroom and I say, wait, the bell just right, they going to leave in a minute. But they never left. They noticed somebody looked at my sneaks or something and I come out, man, and it's all these girls and I just walk out like this bro embarrassed like, yo, I just went into the ladies bathroom and used the stall. But uh, yeah man. So I can totally relate with you. But so, so, so in closing I would say, uh, two things man, I wanna I want to just throw out there is with everything you just shared and as it relates to your new album and this topic of power, man, what is one of the key takeaways that you want people to get from the album you want them to get from your life for this conversation? Like what is one thing they can apply to their life and execute on? You know, the Bible says faith without works is dead. So what would you say is one like one or two key takeaways you would want them to get away from Canton Jones, your life, your album, your music that could change your life? Man.
Speaker 3:Well, one, like I said, and you shall receive power acts one and eight and after that the Holy ghost has come upon you. Uh, get to know God as a father. I'm drawn to the spirit that's through his word. That's through prayer. You can get into his presence through music. Um, but like pursued the presence of God is one of the things that we lost in and Genesis after the fall that Adam lost the apprentice of God, man lost the ability to have the PR get into the presence of God. And I think that that's the thing that Jesus came to fix. I know it is. And so through the blood we can, we can get it to the present. So that presence would teach you all things. That's the thing that you want. That's the thing that's going to give you ultimate power. The presence of God, man. And you're a person that it doesn't matter who you are, like, Lord, okay, I want to know who you are. Please speak to me. He'll start speaking to your trust. Alright? It's not going to be like something told me. No, that's God. All right. That's one thing. The other thing that I, that I learned is the power and family, the power and learning family. And, and, and, and, and I think so many times as you know, people that minister to so many people, it's so easy to lose your family. It's so, so easy going after your goal to lose your little people, to lose your wife, to lose a relationship, to lose your husband. And I think that that's one of the most key things that we have to learn. That man at the beginning, you know, is it possible that God was building this family and that, that, that the related you, you notice all of the curses that came to Adam were relational. You know, you know, if you look at it, uh, the, the, um, the woman would be at war with the, with the serpent, you know, you guys will forever be at war. Well, what does that mean? Before that they weren't at war. They were friends. You see what I'm saying? You got to see that the woman is going to have a desire for the man's position. You know what? Before that they were equal or they were partners in everything. You see what I'm saying? Right. So the curse came to damage, um, um, um, relationships and it's all about relationships are you understand that. So, so sometimes we can have such a desire to when people outside of our household, but when it comes to inside of our household, we'll not surmount about the issues that's there, you know? And so that's what I learned. I learned that man, you could not be a public success and a private failure. You can't, you can't be this thing to everybody else. But when it's time for your legacy, C C legacy will tell you everything, how much time the kids spent with you. Um, when, uh, what a man of God is, is rich or you know, this big businessman is rich, but he had no relationships with his family. They just want the money. We don't want to do what he did because what he did took him away from us. We just want the money. We don't want to take on the business, we don't want to do. But you could tell the atrial legacy is when they take on the, whatever the goal was, the vision that dad had, the vision that mom had. And so I want to leave a legacy. I just don't want to leave money. I want to leave a legacy. I want to leave something that they want to take further. You know, the thing that God called our family, not just Canton Jones as an individual, there's a calling for our bloodline. That's something that I'm learning that's real different that, that, that, that the bloodline has an assignment, not just you as a person. So most of the times we learn how to be great individuals instead of Matt, I don't want to get off subject but, but I've been recently, I asked God one day, man, why, why blood? Like I know we come in the blood of Jesus, we plead the blood over certain things, but why not spit? Why not water? Why not? Why not? Why, why blood? I understand the power in the blood because this is my project power. I was asking about all the power ways of how to get more power and how to use that power. Man, I understand that. I understand the power in the blood, but I was like, why use blood? He says that man, you can take two people that look just alike and call them brothers, but she won't be able to prove that they're blood brothers until you touch their blood. Blood is the only thing that can tell you that we are improve relationship. And so you come through when you plead the blood of uh, you know, I plead the blood of Jesus that says that God through Jesus, I am your family.
Speaker 2:The bank now sealed the deal, the deal, you know, when you, when you think about what Jesus did on the cross for us, it sealed the deal where it reversed the curse and it established the new covenant relationship that we have with him through the blood, through what he did at Calvary for us. And what's amazing about that, as you were talking, man, um, I need people to know, I don't want them to miss this. If you're married, your wife or your husband is your rock, they're, they're not just, it goes beyond relationship to partnership. You're not, you're not the one that's in, you don't need to be the dominant force in your household. That's what some lady, that's for some ladies too, because for a long time I thought like, I gotta, I gotta run this. You know what I mean? I'm, I'm the man. You know what I mean? I'm running this. No, this is a mutual submission. This is us working together, doing ministry, us working together, doing business, our family. I pulled my daughter now into my business. Yes. You know, she's learning. So, like you said, it's that legacy piece that I think is so important. Man, this has been phenomenal. We gotta have you and your wife come back on when my wife and we do something just on marriage and family. Come on Michael. Todd, talking about relationship goals, man, we can talk about, you know, we come up with something family and uh, I'm excited man. So how people, how can people connect with you? Uh, offline? Online.
Speaker 3:Oh yeah, man. Instagram the most, which is the Canton Jones, uh, the Canton Jones, um, Canton Jones on Facebook. Um, you can also, uh, if you still email book cat andJones@gmail.com, uh, and if you old school and use phone numbers then six, seven, eight eight zero zero eight, seven 77, call the office and um, somebody will take care of you, man. But we are, we are, you know, still serving people in this, uh, pandemic. I've been serving most by really just doing songs with younger, younger ministries, man, trying to be the torch to light the fire and other ministries
Speaker 2:that, that was my last question for you was what are you most excited about? You know, working on most excited about people can look forward to coming down the pike from you.
Speaker 3:Oh man, I got power to get rid of the drop. There's another power coming. Uh, I have, um, um, a project called emergency. I mean, um, um, hope nine one one, which is just some songs for America, a little bit more poppy, you know, songs for America, uh, stuff that be played during the Olympics type of type of stuff.
Speaker 2:Nice, nice. You got the young artists coming up. I see with like free life boys.
Speaker 3:We like boys. My son, which is a, it's called of stuffs a sky blue. That's a color. He's 11. He just released his first song. I saw that, I saw that. I'm so proud of that. And he, uh, he has over 20 songs, man. They were calling on their iPads, but they don't need all the stuff that we have. They, they,
Speaker 2:my daughter had been on a group pad making beats. I'm telling you, man, first of all, I might have to come out of retirement. I used to do a little little, little gospel rap back in the day so I might have to come out of retirement and uh, and come on a track with you van and go,
Speaker 3:let's go.
Speaker 2:I met Ken and it's been a pleasure man. A true honor. I'm so thankful for your life, man. And just this connection. You know, I remember we connected last time. You were a spirit of faith. Uh, I met you again when, when, uh, we won the talent show actually at spirit of faith at that youth conference, but I wasn't able to stay. And you met the young boy that was on my group at the time there named Hunter, if you remember him, little young man. And so I really wanted to meet you then, but I had the pleasure of meeting you years later through the connection of my pastor, a spirit of faith Christian center. So man, keep doing what you're doing. I look forward to meeting your wife and your family in person at some point. Man, this has been phenomenal, so thank you for being on the show and looking forward to connecting with you again soon, man,
Speaker 3:man. Keep pushing Robinson. Just a man much love, bro.
