Sue (Parsons) Zipay of Rockford Peaches & Lois Youngens – Fort Wayne Daisies & South Bend Blue Sox share their stories from the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

  • Jimmy Foxx, managed the Fort Wayne Daisies in 1952, never missed a game, never drank on the bus, always tipped his hat, a true gentleman 
  • No Crying in Baseball
  • Right Field or Catching – Smarter than the Boys
  • 110 games a season – sometimes 7 days a week with a couple of double headers
  • AAGPBL pitchers often pitched 9 innings a game and sometimes pitched 2 days back to back
  • Sue talks about pitching and 2nd base and how AAGPBL was like a family
  • Fans – Daisy Fan Club – provided a picnic for players once a year
  • After the game the long ride home & then rise early the next morning for practice
  • Young, Healthy & Loved the Game
  • Long 1 piece dress uniform made it difficult to catch grounder
  • Strawberries from June to Thanksgiving – sliding in feet first
  • Madonna slides into first with her Material Girl’s bosom first 
  • Fort Wayne Daisies tryouts in Spring Training & $20 check
  • Senior Prom, Graduation & became a Fort Wayne Daisy all in 1 week
  • AAGPBL Scouts & Tryouts
  • Serendipity with a visit to a cousin in Fort Wayne
  • Dating Farmer Boy fans & have a good cookout
  • Dottie Greene former player becomes a scout & chaperone
  • Chaperones found host families for lodging at private homes
  • Rivalry continues between Lois & Sue
  • Shu-Shu Senaida Wirth – Tampa Ybor native with the South Bend Blue Sox
  • Canada, Cuba & Japan have professional women’s baseball teams
    • 1948 AAGPBL Spring Training in Cuba
    • Dodgers – dem bums had to fend for themselves in Cuba
    • 4 or 5 Cuban women came on board with the AAGPBL
    • Isabel Alvarez & Mickey Perez pitchers from Cuba
  • Jimmie Foxx’s daughter was a Bat Girl for the Fort Wayne 
  • Lois synergy with Jean Faut the G.O.A.T. had great control most of the time
  • Lois traded to South Bend
  • Baseball math – field dimensions & ball measurements
  • Faut had a good sequence of pitches that gave her the perfect game
  • The Weavers - Jean & Jo were 2 of the best batters in the League 
  • Life after the League – other sports the players performed - Professional bowlers &  tennis players
  • , Sue now owns & runs Englewood Tennis Club
  • “League of Their Own” Penny Marshall & Sue’s knee injury
  • Canada is number 1 in Girl’s / Women’s Baseball
  • Why is it that there has not been a Professional Women’s Baseball League
  • More than half of the USA Team Championship members will be at the tournament.
  • Women's Baseball can begin with a new league 
  • Building a new “League of Their Own” now in Sarasota
