Val Sporleder is owner and designer at 1AD Studio LLC in Seattle. While growing up she moved a lot so her interest in her living space started early. She received Bachelors' degree in Design & Sociology and has used both to navigate the intertwined worlds of living spaces and the people who use them. She is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and ADU Specialist. These all help her create 'forever homes' and in-law units, including backyard cottages that are ready for a lifetime of use. She is passionate about small spaces, urban in-fill projects and creating space that will be loved for a lifetime. In her spare time she can be found volunteering with Architects Without Borders, playing soccer (pre-Covid), running, gardening, and running her small urban farm. She loves to travel and learn about spaces people around the world people live in and call home.
