Ai must not fear fear is the mind killer. Or there can be only one. Take your pick, or don't welcome the strive seek fame podcast. I'm your host chance Whitmore going to geek out a bit today. A little celebration of parts of myself. I've been missing for the past year or two in the last few months, as things have began to loosen up at least as much as they will for the foreseeable future. And some of my other interests have started to come back. So today, I thought I'd talk about a couple of these starting with books and movies. Now, let's get started. So I'm going to go full Marvel honk right now. Recently I attended blackwidow attended as went into a room with the recliner, and with others stared at the screen several stories high. I seem to remember doing this occasionally, during the before times. five seats across with our kids squirming with excitement for the experience a nearly empty theater of rocking recliners. There were maybe 15 people in the entire theater. previews of more new movies and not coming from Netflix. popcorn. Well, not really skipped on the popcorn much to the kitchen, chagrin. And then at a real live movie put on a screen the way it was supposed to be seeing. At this point, the quality of the movie was not unimportant, but less so than it would be traditionally. And I will say it was pretty good. During lockdown, I experienced a ton of media Didn't we all. This was about experience and experience after a year. And it was wonderful. Being together without any distractions, phones, needing to stop to get a snack out of the fridge needing to stop to get the dog out. Any of 100 things that comes with watching a movie at home, we enjoyed this much delayed movie together. It was awesome. It got me a little excited in the geek sort of way. Because now I find myself instead of thinking well, Disney plus will have it eventually, or HBO max or whatever. There are certain movies I'm starting to get excited to see in the theater again. And I hope this holds up. I saw the new Dune trailer. Like I got to see that on the big screen, saw the trailer for Shengshi. And the legend of the 10 rings, saw the abomination fight in there. And it's just that that is a big screen movie. And I'm pumped about that, because I felt like this is missing. And while I generally talked about getting out and going, this is a different kind of get out and go. We're not meant to sit in our homes and do nothing or sit in our homes and just do jobs all the time. Whether it's the honey do list or that list that you build for yourself or literal work. We need to be a part of a community. And the geek community is about as good as that gets. Another thing I've been enjoying doing is returning to bookstores. I buy things from Amazon. More accurately, I buy almost everything from Amazon. But outside of early order books that I know the author really well and just ordered them. I want to be at a bookstore and I want to handle the book. I want to smell the book. I want to touch the book. I want to experience the book before I buy it. And in the last month I have really enjoyed going and browsing, browsing bookstores, finding new authors finding new books, finding old books on the shelf at the used bookstore. And watching my kids do the same. And this has led to some interesting conversations and events my house, I find myself at her request reading some of his favorites. Speaking of which, she really despises me calling the keepers of last city books, the Hermione Granger adventures. It's too fun not to say. And I've encouraged the girls into some of mine. K is reading, call it courage right now and he is reading good omens. I told her I'd let her see the series once she's finished it up. And I'll be honest, that I have read more new material in the last month than I had in the previous six combined. Now this gets your brain moving. Life stops feeling like a slog for a little while. Creativity begins moving down channels, it hasn't a while maybe giving you some new and interesting ideas. And life continues better. For the new experience. Theory nonfiction is the new learning, you're reading fiction. There's a certain escapism and release. And this third one may be obvious. And it's a little different than the previous two, which are the consumption of media. I still want to mention the fact that there's just something wonderful about being able to go to a tasting room, a pub, a bar of some sort, and sit with your buddies and talk about life. There's something incredibly powerful about those conversations. And it's not escapism, but it does make life better. All of this to say on some level, we all need some escapism. We need a release and seeing these escapism opportunities. Come back. We'll help us relax. I for one still in dry joy driving through our communities downtown, seeing people congregating on splashpad people connected a fourth of July parades and plans to travel and live beginning to pick up. I'm not sure any of this is critical. But at this point, it feels like it is. How about you? What escapism Have you been finding what things to drive your creativity? Let me know. I picked up some writing again. And that has me excited for a whole different series of reasons. But mostly because for the last year, maybe two. I felt like I cut myself off from that entirely. And it wasn't a good feeling. Shout outs. couple of quick shout outs today. First off thanks to Ray at not before coffee. And the folks film rage for running the strive seek find Season Two promo. And as usual, walked out with way too many books. It was great to see you great to be back. And watching the girls devour a new book is always a great experience. And I'll add I really appreciated the comment that you don't always agree with me. But you're always willing to listen. Thank you. worth mentioning. I don't suppose it's a huge surprise where I'm going to go with today's worth mentioning blackwidow it was a solid spy flick disguised as a superhero movie. And it was far from perfect. It probably should have come out long before now and not just for COVID reasons. But the thing impressed me the most was the chemistry that the cast hat. The interplay, the humor, and it showed throughout the movie. And while Scarlett Johansson shines it was the full package that made it something worth watching. That alone makes it worth checking out. blackwidow is available in theaters now. Add on Disney plus for an additional fee. And that concludes this edition of strive seek find.
