In life, we have two choices, to experience or to exist. Every week, each of us makes that choice to either seek a better way to live, or to get by. walk alongside me each week on the strife seek find podcast as we continue to seek our own brilliant future. About a year ago, I put up an episode that ended up being my most listened to ever. Let's not be an object lesson. On the eve of the presidential elections, I was worried about a lot of things. The reaction to the elections, their certifications. And apparently while I was way off on the timeframe, the concern ended up being real. Thanks a lot January 6. But we are just beginning to see the myriad of ways our society has been impacted in the last few years. Because while we are at least attempting to live like we have before, you can't tell me what we're witnessing is exactly what was happening in, let's say, 2017. Which brings me to today, after last year's elections, which, even in the run up seemed to be earth shattering in all directions, and always possible. This year's elections seem dull, pale, possibly boring by comparison, minor national elections in some places. And instead, we're looking at things like county commissioners, mayoral races, city councils, school boards, state representatives. Now, I'll be the first to say that on the surface, these aren't a sexy is a presidential race with glitz, Glamour, and high dollar commercials with national importance and impact. Those races are a slap in the face. They keep your attention at all times. But does that really mean that this election is less important? Does it mean that we shouldn't be paying attention? Quite the opposite. In fact, I'd argue in some ways it's more important to your communities, long term livability, because what jobs your neighbors have, and the vision for maintaining or growing your community will have an impact on your options in a much more personal way. Because defining what you want for the people who are elected to define what your schools are, are critically important in creating the space you want to live in. And let's not forget, some of these people have their eyes on making a name and building the brand necessary to move into big politics. In other words, they don't care what kind of job they do, as long as it puts them in a situation where they can run for the bigger, better deal. And personally, I think it's better to find those people and show them the door now, before they are taking meetings and dropping their vote to their favorite special interest group. And for every person who just legitimately wants to serve their community. You also have that person out there who is running to serve the acts they want to grind, rather than what's good for the community. It's our duty, our responsibility to sort those people out those candidates out and making sure we're taking care of our community rather than that person special interest. And let's be honest, it's all going to have an impact. In the last week alone, I've read several candidates own words, that said, but I'm not x. And then when you read beyond the headline, you discover that their beliefs and plans are exactly what they say they don't believe in. And it's changed a few of my plans for my ballot this week. And while at the same time, I've looked at plenty of Facebook posts that are doing nothing but mudslinging. This is what this person's done in the past or this is what this person's believes, as defined by their opponent without any references to double check, or fact check what they're doing. Because in all things, trust your Facebook or Instagram meeting, folks because he had no it's on the internet. It must be true. If we want our communities to be places we're proud to live and have our kids curl up in. We want must be more, we must do better. There's still time. There's time to look around at this week's elections. Get out. Look at the candidates know who you're voting for and know what they stand for. There's no way something this important, should have 300 total votes and be decided by five. There's no way we should treat this as less important on than what the line on the Monday Night Football game is. This is our future we're talking about. For God's sake, stand up and be counted. The last book adaptation I went to in the theater was The Hobbit. And I remember during the first movie sitting there and going, it's been so long, it has to end. And when the credits finally rolled, I was relieved. extremely disappointed, mind you, but relieved and hoping the next two films would be better. They weren't. So that along with my knowledge of the novel and the history of its adaptations, I'm looking at you David Lynch, made me worried about Dennis Ville, Villa naipu. I am butchering that last names adaptation of Dune. I was wrong. This movie takes its time with world building. And the results are visually stunning and beautifully acting. And by the end, you don't mind the fact that it only covers about a third of the novel. I don't want to give anything away. But this is a movie that needs to be experienced on the big screen.
