Today I want to hold myself #accountable. It is easy to lose track of the good things in life whether they be people or events that make life special. So in this week's episode I discuss some of what I've been #grateful for this year.
Hello there friends, both old new. Welcome to strive seek find podcast, I'm your host chance went home of bite sized lifestyle advice from a fellow traveler on the road to a better life. Welcome back. I'm recording on the morning of November 24 2022. American Thanksgiving. And this is a little different episode for me. Now, I'm going to admit, and step back, I felt like I've said this a lot of late. And while I'm not digging into the history of the holiday, which every year I start thinking I should, I do want to touch on some things I'm grateful for. Honestly, I'm not sure I'm not just doing this episode for me as a reminder of the goods in life, but I do hope you will tag along and enjoy. And those of you who interact with me on social or in real life, please hold me accountable to these things. Now let's get started. This year has been fraught with change some of it by my choice, some of it, because that's what life is. It's given me the opportunity for repeated and often painful reflection. And I hope that eventually will lead to some growth. For now. I just keep working on the process, stumbling often. But for all that, I want to touch a little bit on the things I'm grateful for. And this year, some of this may seem trite. Like I said, I probably need this reminder right now. Gonna start with an obvious one right out of the gate. With everything going on in the world, I'm so grateful that my family has been relatively healthy and able to do the things they've wanted to do. That may seem like a low bar, but it gives opportunities for other things that I'm grateful for. For instance, I'm grateful to have three extremely unique, stubborn, stubborn, stubborn daughters, who are becoming their own people. From the high schooler who is finding her way in both athletics and Speech and Debate to the middle schooler who is seeking her identity and being uniquely herself to the honey badger kindergartener who is just tearing the world up. I'm grateful for each of them, and what they bring to my life. For a fun one. I'd like to mention the fact that I am grateful for the opportunity to travel no matter for what I mean, this year. family trip to Park City and some new hikes was incredible. My youngest first time on an airplane to San Diego, a city that nobody else in my family had been to my first pro football game in Phoenix, and helping someone move down there. And on top of it all, just last weekend, being able to run away and experience Leavenworth, Washington and Seattle. While I helped a friend celebrate his birthday, it's probably the most I've traveled in a calendar year than any time in my life that I can think of, and all for a variety of reasons. And I'll be honest, it's not the travel itself that I'm grateful for. It's the experiences that comes out of it. The time with friends, the time with family, the time scene and doing new things that you'll never possibly do again. Those are life changing moments, even if they're small ones, and you should always hold them in your heart. It's something to be grateful for. I'm grateful for family who supports each other through our individual struggles, and our family once no matter what we go through. We're always stronger when we hang together. And I'm grateful for that. Because we never need to feel alone and interrelated. No Well, I am grateful for friends who keep me grounded and focused, kicking my ass and supporting me as is necessary. And both are necessary. I don't always get to see or talk to them nearly enough. But they're always there and willing to drop everything if one of us needs it. And I tell you, folks, after a couple of things this year, I have some stories I'm going to eventually share about that. But I'm not there yet. I'm grateful for the online podcasting tribe who has helped and supported me, that has allowed me in some measure to keep moving forward as a podcaster. Even his life has intruded over and over again this past year. Y'all know who you are? Most you listen to this fairly regularly. I want to tip my hat. And I hope I've said thank you. Well, I've said thank you. But I hope you all realize how important that was to this experiment continuing. Next up, I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and continue to learn both personally and professionally. There's a lot of reasons for this. As soon as you think you know everything, get out, that alone is pretty obvious. But in my head, I've always thought that the moment where you cease to believe that you can learn and change and grow, is the moment when you really start getting old. And maybe I should take that a step further. When you're unwilling to learn and to grow, and get fixed in your mindset. And in your habits, is when you truly start making that shift from young mentally, because I've known some 20 Somethings who are already set in their ways. And most importantly, and specifically, because she fits in a lot of these areas. My wife, Amy, because she's put up a lot of garter with a lot of garbage this year for me, and has allowed me to keep breathing that tongue in cheek, but I am married to an amazing person. I'm not even going to pretend this is supposed to be an inclusive list. There are a lot of things and a lot of people I am grateful for this year. I just knew I needed to take a step back and look at those things in order to fit my mind around the rest of the year and put things in perspective. So if you have an opportunity today, take a step back. Make a list if it helps you. Think about it. And remember who and what you're grateful for. Put them at the center of your life.
