Pray the word with David Platt is a resource from radical dot net. 2 Samuel chapter 14, verse 20. In order to change the course of things, your servant Joab did this. But my Lord has wisdom, like the wisdom of the angel of God, to know all things that are on the earth. So this verse comes in the middle of a chapter that revolves around David, Absalom, and Joab. We don't have time to get into all the details of the story here, but the reason I wanted to read this verse and lead us to pray according to it is because there's an acknowledgement here that God has given King David wisdom to lead. And we think about all the promises we have in the Bible. 1 Corinthians 1, for those who are in Christ, he is our wisdom. James 1, whenever you lack wisdom, ask a God who gives generously to all without finding fault. So God promises to give wisdom. We have in us, those of us who are followers of Jesus, we have in us the spirit of wisdom. But now come back to 2 Samuel 14, 20. What David lacks is the courage to act upon the wisdom that he has. And this is one of the things I pray for all the time in my life and in the lives of those closest to me and members of my church family. I pray all the time for wise courage. Or maybe a different way to put it would be for courageous wisdom. Because you just think about how unhelpful it is to have one of those but not the other. If you have wisdom, you know what to do, but you lack courage to do it, that's not good. Or if you have courage, you have boldness, no fear to act, but you don't have wisdom, well, that's not good either. I don't want to act and be bold and courageous and foolish at the same time. So I want to encourage you to pray continually for wise courage in your life or courageous wisdom. And I want to lead us to pray for that for each other right now, based on 2 Samuel 14, 20. God, we pray for wise courage, for courageous wisdom in each of our lives. Please grant us wisdom just as you promise to do in your word. Amidst all the things going on in our lives today, we pray for wisdom. Help us not to be foolish, help us to be wise today, not to have the wisdom of this world, James chapter three, but the wisdom that comes from your spirit. Not a worldly wisdom, but godly wisdom. And we pray for courage to live based on the wisdom you give, courage to act according to the leadership of your spirit, the spirit of wisdom in us and your word to us. God, help us to live, 2 Timothy 1.7, not with a spirit of timidity, but of power and of love and of self-discipline with the wisdom you grant us. God, we pray for wise courage in so many ways, including God, wise courage in sharing the gospel with people around us and spreading the good news of your love. Grant us wisdom and courage to speak the gospel faithfully and effectively to people around us today. And God, we pray this for our brothers and sisters around the world as we pray for the Midobi people in Sudan, over 100,000 of them. God, we pray for the spread of your love to them. And we pray for wise courage over all our brothers and sisters in Christ in Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, in neighboring countries, in Eritrea, God, in Ethiopia. We pray, God, for wise courage for all of them, even though in many places they're few in number. Grant them courageous wisdom to spread the gospel and raise up more laborers to come with courageous wisdom to spread the gospel alongside them. God, help us to spread your gospel to all the nations as your church with wise courage. We pray all this in light of your word in 2 Samuel chapter 14, in Jesus' name and the name of the one who is all wise and lives in us. Amen.
