Ever feel like love gets drowned out by noise—babies crying, stacked Saturdays, and decisions that never end? We’ve been there lately, so we opened the mics with our wives and the twins to talk about the messy, funny, very real art of choosing quality over quantity. From counting “date nights” that look like Walmart runs to sneaking in a car-ride debrief after a high school musical, we explored how tiny pockets of presence can do more for a relationship than a rare, elaborate plan.

We compared notes on what actually recharges us—one of us wants the beach and sun every time, another wants a quiet solo shopping trip with a coffee, and someone else just needs to sit at home and watch YouTube without being rushed through every aisle. When schedules are packed with basketball, church events, and moving boxes, those differences can look like conflict, but they can also be the map to real rest. We worked through practical ways to meet in the middle: enlist grandparents, keep a running list of one-hour date ideas, and treat even a grocery run like a chance to listen, laugh, and reset.

Planning travel brought its own debates—Boston baseball vs Orlando theme parks, long lines vs budget limits, and how to include the kids without losing our minds. We also swapped recommendations for what to watch and listen to when the couch is as far as you can go: The Rookie, Vampire Diaries rewatch, true crime docuseries, and worship collabs that remix the classics. Along the way there’s playful trash talk, a Dr. Mario rivalry, and a dad joke finale that no one asked for but everyone will remember.

If you’re juggling newborns, chasing teens, or just navigating two calendars that never agree, this conversation is your permission slip to think smaller and love deeper. Hit play, steal a few ideas, and tell us your favorite low-effort, high-connection ritual. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs a micro-date idea, and leave a review with your best five-minute win—we’ll try it next week.

SPEAKER_03

I know, right? Tyler, stop stealing the binkies, bro.

SPEAKER_04

Don't throw it.

SPEAKER_03

So I I I wanted to tell y'all something that that happened to me today.

SPEAKER_04

Oh gosh.

SPEAKER_03

So my friend Tony, okay, he asked me to to spell his name his name backwards. And I'm like, why not? Why not? You make me sick.

SPEAKER_02

I'm glad your team lost.

Introducing Wives And Twins

SPEAKER_03

That's what happened. That's what happened. Oh, that is so funny. What's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, everybody. No Richie Rich, but we've got our wives are on today. Jamie. Hi. And Liv. Hi. And the babies. And the twins. Same way. Twinning. Oh.

SPEAKER_04

Oh. Oh. What do you want to say to your fans?

SPEAKER_02

The Almost Twins podcast.

SPEAKER_03

That is fantastic.

unknown

You want to talk about that?

SPEAKER_03

He's leaning in like he really is about to say something.

SPEAKER_04

He's leaning in so hard, he's doing cross eyed.

Theme: Quality Over Quantity

SPEAKER_03

He's leaning into the microphone. Oh. Oh. Really? There's a little bit.

SPEAKER_04

She's just not.

SPEAKER_03

So on today's episode, we're going to be talking about quality over quantity and good old-fashioned time together.

SPEAKER_02

I almost sat on the arm of the chair.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, don't sit on the arm of the chair. On time together. You know, with with we're going on our 20-year anniversary, and y'all just.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry.

SPEAKER_03

It's messed up. I say that too. And y'all are trying to figure out time with new twin little babbies. That we can hear. Oh my gosh. Yeah, he got a good spit up going.

SPEAKER_02

Boy. He's like a fountain.

SPEAKER_04

He just he doesn't teach it.

SPEAKER_02

Just lets it roll. You're wasting money right there. Spitting a bottle of food.

SPEAKER_04

He's living his best life, though. He really is.

SPEAKER_02

Is he though?

SPEAKER_03

So looks like he's living in his college days. Oh gosh. What are some of the things that y'all are trying to do as you're as you're navigating this life with twins on spending good? Because sometimes you can't spend as much time as you want, but making sure that the time you do spend is quality time.

SPEAKER_02

Thank God for grandparents.

SPEAKER_03

Ooh, come on. There you go. That's what I'm talking about, man. Let's give it up, man. Yeah. Or that's or godchildren, you know, that that step in, you know. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Now that's that's kind of uh the only uh way we've been able to have like nights by ourselves. Yeah. Like just the two of us. Kind of your outlet. Yeah. Yeah. Like last night. Uh because we've been trying to move into our new home and get the old home ready and get the new home ready. And uh it's also hard to do when you have two screening babies.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. That's true. Absolutely. So what is your favorite thing to do together? Sit and watch YouTube.

SPEAKER_04

I would say we honestly just sit and just hang out at home. We don't really we don't actually go out and do anything. Like we feel better just being at home.

New Parents And Finding Help

SPEAKER_02

Just I mean everyone like the I think the last last time we actually went out, we what we ate dinner. Did we go see a movie? I can't remember.

SPEAKER_04

I think so, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we watched uh uh Wicked Forget. Is that what it was called? Yeah. Oh yeah, you went to the movies? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. We went to we went to uh Cape, didn't we? Or no no no Sexton. No, we went to Sexton. Yeah, we went to Cape.

SPEAKER_03

There you go. Yeah, babe, what's your what what what's your input on how we can do better at this? I know we we have our schedules that get crazy, and how can we do better in 2026 and spending some good quality time together?

SPEAKER_05

Um I always think date nights are are nice to have, which we've been slacking because our schedules are busy, but yeah, our Saturdays are taken up now by basketball. Yes, 100%.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Basketball, uh, church events.

SPEAKER_03

You know it's bad when I ask her, like, what do you want to do for your birthday? Like, what like where can we go? Like, we go out to eat, I'll take you to a movie. Like, what do you want to do for your birthday? And she's like, I just want to be left alone.

unknown

I did say that.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm like, what?

SPEAKER_02

What do you want for your birthday? I want you to take a trip somewhere else. Right.

SPEAKER_05

I said me. I said, I want to go on a shopping trip, just me. Literally. And that was that was my only Hey Michael.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I heard?

SPEAKER_05

Darn did he darn darn.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I heard?

SPEAKER_03

Well that screw you. That's right. That's what I heard. Like, I hate you. That's what I got out of that.

SPEAKER_05

Well, because there are some stores where he don't want to go in.

SPEAKER_03

And there's some It's not that I don't want to go in the store. It's that I don't want to go in the store for three hours.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and I do.

SPEAKER_03

Like, it is live is the conflict. Is live like this?

SPEAKER_05

That's why I want to go.

SPEAKER_03

Goes in the store and wants to touch everything in the store before she is done shopping. Jamie will go to every rack, look at every single thing, and leave with nothing.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, if she does, she don't take forever.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_02

Now, now, say we're at like Target. Yeah. She'll take her time in Target.

SPEAKER_04

You best breathe.

SPEAKER_02

But for like at the mall, like I don't know, like American Eagle or something. I mean, she takes as long as I do.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I mean, it's just so long. I'm just like. And I guess I could see that. That would get annoying. I don't and I try not to rush you. I don't like, come on, let's go.

SPEAKER_05

I'd you breathe hard. You are you like breathing down my neck.

Simple Dates At Home

SPEAKER_03

Like maybe I'm just trying to get some oxygen. You ever think of that? Maybe my legs are hurting, and I'm trying to get some oxygen to my lungs and my blood vessels.

SPEAKER_05

No. You will go what when he goes to Target, he goes straight back to the electronics.

SPEAKER_03

Why you put my business in the street?

SPEAKER_05

All right, I'm done. Y'all done? Y'all ready to go? I'm like, I've just walked in and got a little drinky drink. And now I'm ready to start. You're like, oh, I'm done. Let's go.

SPEAKER_02

What's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, everybody. Another episode of the Couples Therapy.

SPEAKER_03

Man, bro. You ain't lying. Man.

SPEAKER_05

Right. I I got a I got an event. I haven't been on in a while.

SPEAKER_02

All right, go ahead then. Let me reach over. Let me reach over there and hit the mute button on my microphone.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I'll I'll mute myself.

SPEAKER_05

This is my episode.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, you do always say you're the best, uh, I'm the best co-host.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's right.

SPEAKER_03

What do you got to say to Richard about that?

SPEAKER_05

Richard, these uh what are they? Listens, downloads?

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_05

Something, they're gonna be high now that me and Liver on.

SPEAKER_03

You don't even know what it is.

SPEAKER_05

I know, because I'm not a podcaster. Downloads, likes, listens.

SPEAKER_03

I can't, I can't deal with all the above. I can't deal with them too. I can't even look that way, Tyler. I can't do it. What what what's what would your what would your ideal time together be then?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, a vacation.

SPEAKER_03

I'm away. Time away from you.

SPEAKER_02

Together in spirit.

SPEAKER_03

So this is something this is something too, okay. It becomes even a hassle to figure out what we want to do together in quality time. It's like it takes so long to figure something out.

Scheduling Date Nights In Busy Seasons

SPEAKER_04

Well, for us, it's like after a while, you don't want to keep doing the same thing, like going out to eat and go to the movie all the time. Yeah. Like every time you go out, it's that kind of it just gets old. Right. That's right. Sometimes we'll go like bowling or something, but not really anymore.

SPEAKER_02

It's just I mean, we've we've had we've had what two date nights since they've been born in almost four months they've been alive.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That's about that's about where we're at on average. That's not terribly bad.

SPEAKER_04

Are you counting yesterday?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say no, I'm counting uh that first, which that wasn't really I mean, that was an evening of ours by ourselves.

SPEAKER_04

Our first evening away from the babies.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. You know you're getting old when when a date night consists of going to Walmart.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Just without the kid.

SPEAKER_04

We literally went to a high school and watched a musical.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And it's like, man, it's a nice little time, a little time away. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's freaked me out.

SPEAKER_03

Did you sing along with the musical?

SPEAKER_04

Yes, he did.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

He had, oh my gosh. He had the time of his life.

SPEAKER_03

Oh gosh. Was it where was it? In Dexter?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, they do do some, they do some good ones.

SPEAKER_04

There was one kid during one specific scene. So the the musical was high school musical.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I don't remember what the scene was, but oh my gosh, he was like crying laughter because of one kid.

SPEAKER_02

It was the scene where they're playing the championship game and she's doing the the scholastic bowl thing. Yeah. And I was like, every time the kid shot the ball, would just just freak out.

SPEAKER_04

Like going crazy, look just looking stupid, like just because he could.

SPEAKER_02

It caught me off guard because I'm watching like the main characters of that scene, and I just seen him kind of in the corner of my eye. It's freaking out. I'm like, wait a second, did I just see that wrong? Oh my god.

SPEAKER_03

And that well, high school musical, that's right. Your time, right?

SPEAKER_02

When you were that age, you were wasn't that it was 20 years ago this year, I think, that the first one came out. Or 19 years ago. Yeah, yeah, no, no, it was 20 years ago this year.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Which is so crazy.

Solo Recharge And Shopping Styles

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. It goes by, yeah. The fact how fast it goes by. Yeah, it's nuts. Mm-mm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So we we do stuff like that. Like we'll go, you know, go grab groceries or something like that, and and we'll let the kids kind of hang out at home and then we'll go and do that. Cause, you know, Bubby's old enough to to watch both of them. But we kind of try to squeeze those in as much as possible. Just that little bit of time. Yeah. You know, even the car ride is is pretty nice. I I think. I mean, I I'm not I'm not wanting for my birthday to to be away from her, you know, so it may not be the time of her life to hang out with me. But poor thing. Man, 20 years changed you. 20 to life. Oh, and and you know, talking about vacation, it took us so long to figure out what we're gonna do this summer as a family. Yeah, then finally the kids kind of pinpointed it because you know, one of us uh rhymes with Shmaimi uh can't make her mind up on anything, you know. So it was Zeke. It was a it was a pain just to figure out what we're gonna do, how we're gonna do it. So what are y'all doing? We're going to Boston. You're just a I think you told me that going to Boston.

SPEAKER_05

Creature of uh of what is it?

SPEAKER_03

Creature of habit is what you're trying to say.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it's late, okay. So you're just like, yeah, y'all want to go to Boston? And the kids, of course, are like, yeah, we do, because you want to go. And he's like, yeah, let's plan that.

SPEAKER_03

Do I I don't that doesn't sound like me. Who's talking? Wait a second. That doesn't sound like me. No, I said, kids, do y'all want to go here or here? Then they chose where they wanted to go. To what'd you say? Orlando, Florida.

SPEAKER_04

Oh man. I want to go.

unknown

Thank you.

SPEAKER_03

I just don't, I don't get the uh I haven't been to Florida in oh my gosh. I just don't want to I don't want to stand in line for three and a half hours to go on one ride. That doesn't sound fun to me.

SPEAKER_04

Well, you ain't gotta wait to go to the beach.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, that's true.

SPEAKER_02

We've got a friend from church, Logan. How many times a year does she go to Disneyland?

SPEAKER_04

Well, she she went to Disneyland for the first time. Or Disney World, California. Yeah, she goes to Disney all the time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well she yeah, she went to she went to she just came back from Disneyland. Yeah, I think what uh towards the end of last year, she went to Disney World. Yeah, and then probably earlier that world words, holy crap. Earlier that year, last year, she went to Disney World.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, she goes to Disney World quite a bit.

SPEAKER_01

What is up with my is running out of mouth, man?

SPEAKER_04

It's so cool because she has like a oh my gosh, she has a whole room like dedicated to Disney stuff. It's so cool. Yeah, and like she has all sorts like a little one of those like cubicle or not cubicle things, like the like the IKEA shelves, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_04

Full like 20 bags. That's awesome. They're all different, it's so cool.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah. Yeah, and that would be fun. I just don't it's it just takes so long to do anything at those places. So you get yeah, don't they make like the passes where you can look at the phone? Yes, but then you now you're spending more money.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you know, you got four people understand is you have to pay for each park.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Right.

SPEAKER_04

So if you want to go to multiple, like it's so expensive to go to all the parks.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well uh you uh I think you mentioned it what last time or something like that. Um I saw on Facebook too, where it's like it's cheaper to to go to Disney World like Tokyo.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it it's just or probably the same uh uh the same amount as going in Florida. Yeah. And it's just so much. So we talk about going and catching a Red Sox game and doing that. So yeah. We're uh we're hoping to go to San Antonio this summer.

SPEAKER_02

Now what was San Antonio? Uh so that competition, uh that music competition there. Yeah, that's where it's at.

SPEAKER_04

What's it called?

SPEAKER_02

Uh what? Wait, was that you?

SPEAKER_04

That was me.

SPEAKER_02

So you're you're well the microphone is covering like the bottom half of your face, so all I see is Well, you should still be able to recognize my voice. Ooh, get him.

SPEAKER_04

That's problem number one.

Target Runs And Electronics Detours

SPEAKER_02

Oh, snap on. Listen. Anyways, it's called You God's Music. You God's Music. Okay, that's what I thought. You, comma, God's music. That's cool. Yep.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, what's funny is um I didn't know anything about it until after he had submitted our audition. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, that's the way to do it.

SPEAKER_04

He's like, hey, so I did this thing.

SPEAKER_02

By the way. Well, they they reached out to our they commented on one of uh my TikToks like, hey, you should audition for this. I looked into it and I thought it was not like a not legit thing, but I thought it was like a like like someone putting something on and it's like three people involved. Yeah. And I've never we'd never heard of it before. I looked into it and looked, uh went on their website, looked like a legit website, have a YouTube link to their their finale last year. Uh Torn Wells performed there. Uh Jason Cradd was a host. Um Jordan Feliz was a judge. That's awesome. That is awesome. And it like there's probably 10 or so thousand people there. So cool.

SPEAKER_03

So and we're and we're only planning a trip to you know, North Carolina for the one trio. You know, I mean, I'm just saying. You're done. I'm just throwing that out there, just throwing that out there. Uh yeah. Excuse me.

SPEAKER_04

You've gone on plenty of trips.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, we may have gone on plenty of trips.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. We may have gone on on the trip.

Rethinking Date Ideas Beyond Dinner

SPEAKER_02

SPEAKER_03

You can go to Walmart and get that.

SPEAKER_02

Let me see it, Zay. Let me see it.

SPEAKER_03

I just can't, I just can't. I can't do it. I can't do the beach all the time.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, you stick your big toe in and you're done.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's it. That's all I need. That's all I need. Big toe in the in the water, and I'm good.

SPEAKER_05

See, even Ezra says fearful of it.

SPEAKER_03

So moving on, we're gonna move to that's what's up. Something that you're watching. Let's do I'm gonna start with Tyler and then go to the ladies. So y'all can kind of think of it a little bit. What's something you got going on this week, man? Or last week.

SPEAKER_02

You weren't you weren't on last week, so uh hardly anything because we're we've been so busy.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um still watching the rookie.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, oh yeah, the show. Okay, it took me a second. I was thinking the rookie of the movie. I was like, how long have you been watching this one movie?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, we no, just watch it every week. Yeah. Um, am I listening to anything? Let me see. Is there anything I'll I'll skim the top of my playlist real quick. Um, um, so I've been uh listening to a lot more of uh Ben Fuller. Yeah, he's good. He's really good. Yeah, I love his testimony. Yeah. Have you heard it?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. It's good. Yeah, we got a few people at the church that really like him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, his guess actually uh the uh my guitar player for my band actually got to play with him at a conference in December.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's awesome.

Counting Real Date Nights Post-Twins

SPEAKER_02

Um so that and then um there's this, I don't know, it's I guess it's this collective of uh Christian artists. I don't know who all I put it together, um, but they called it a house of worship, and they it was like um what's her name? I can't remember. She was the she was a lady from the Hillsong back in the 90s that sang Shout to the Lord. I think it was Hillsong. Oh yeah, okay. And I I think she might have been the one to kind of put it all together. Anyways, um it's her and like some newer artists, Cece Wynans, Chris Brown and um uh Josh Baldwin, they uh uh collaborated with some like the older artists like Michael W. Smith, yeah, uh Matt Redman. They uh did and recorded a whole album of like all the older uh 90s, maybe early 2000s uh worship songs like shot to the Lord, uh Breathe, um Heart of Worship, you know, those the ones everyone knows. Yeah. It was so good. Oh, it's cool. It's such a good album.

SPEAKER_03

Very neat. Liv, what you got going on? You been listening to anything outside of uh The Baby's Crying? The baby's crying, the orchestra of farts and burps and baby noises. I'm first chair of farts.

SPEAKER_04

That's just a close second. The wind instruments?

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, so dumb.

SPEAKER_00

We literally just watch the That that dude is so funny.

SPEAKER_02

Like Michael doesn't understand good humor.

SPEAKER_04

Um I started rewatching the Vampire Diaries.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it's so good. It is. Oh, it's so good. I love it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Is it like background noise? Or do you like get to sit down and watch it?

SPEAKER_04

A little bit of both. So like, well, the other day I fell asleep watching it. I just started because I've already seen edit, so I just started it where it stopped.

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_03

That's what I that's what you do, yeah. Heck yeah, James. What you got?

SPEAKER_05

Uh I mine the same as what you got.

SPEAKER_03

Well, go ahead.

SPEAKER_05

I really don't remember. Uh we're watching the Myrtles.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It's a it's a docuseries based off of a true story of a family and a bunch of this stuff happens. It's pretty crazy.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, we watched the documentary last night.

SPEAKER_03

It's pretty crazy.

SPEAKER_04

It was called What Jennifer Did.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah, I watch that.

SPEAKER_04

It's good. It's like and like you see it coming, but the way that everything happens is like it's crazy.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_04

She's still denying everything to this day.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Well, it's like it's like uh that one with the the the social media and the mom.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I'm that was crazy. I was ready to beat her up.

SPEAKER_02

What was it called?

Small Escapes: Musicals And Groceries

SPEAKER_03

Yes, yeah, I know I know where she like wasn't feeding her kids or whatever. No, it was no.

SPEAKER_04

No, that's a different one. That's like the Jody, whatever, right? Oh I don't know. Jody something. Um I think we watched that one too.

SPEAKER_02

This one, so um, if you haven't heard, I'm gonna spoil it for people.

SPEAKER_00

So basically, there's this there's this girl.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and she was dating.

SPEAKER_03

Well, don't spoil it for me.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, because he's I didn't know you were gonna watch it.

SPEAKER_03

You're about to go into it. No, I didn't like your headphones, Mike.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, he does need to watch it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, don't ruin it, right? It's unknown number, I think. That's right, that's right. Yeah, no, he needs to watch it because I need to record his reaction.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's on Netflix. Yeah, it's really cool. Oh, have you seen it?

SPEAKER_03

No, I just seen like Oh, you know what happens. It's really good.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, well, people ruin it on TikTok.

SPEAKER_03

So this girl, I'm in. I don't need you to explain. I'm in. Okay. I'm just I was just giving you a little premise.

SPEAKER_04

I would say you think you know what's gonna happen. I'm in.

SPEAKER_02

And then it's like no plot twist. It yes, very we were hooked.

SPEAKER_04

We were like sitting on the edge of our seats with our eyes out of our head. We might need to watch that.
