The Real You Behind The Smile

A few laughs open the door, but the real conversation lives beneath the punchlines: why we hide, who we trust, and how to take off the mask without falling apart. We get honest about the pressure to look polished, the sting of past betrayals, and the quiet ways leaders carry doubt while they serve. From men’s groups to midnight phone calls, we map out how small, safe circles become lifelines—places where you can say “I’m not okay” and hear, “You’re not alone.”
We walk through practical tools that turn vulnerability into strength: finding two or three people you can text before a hard day, using friends as filters to reframe conflict, and building rhythms that help when you have to lead while low. We also press against comparison culture and the curated perfection of social feeds, trading metrics of polish for measures of presence and impact. Your struggles still matter, even if someone else has it worse. Care isn’t scarce. If it weighs on your heart, it deserves a voice and a prayer.
The conversation widens with creative sparks and a live preview of an original song born from testimony. Music, games, workouts, even a long shower—outlets can heal or numb, and we share how to tell the difference by the fruit: do you return softer and clearer, or just more distant? By the end, we’re inviting you to name your people, send the hard text, and practice the kind of honesty that builds real community.
If this resonates, share it with a friend who needs a safe place, hit follow for more real talk on faith and mental health, and leave a quick review so others can find the show. Your story might be the mirror someone else needs today.

What does that even mean, really? You know who else is down? Florida. Oh, Lord have mercy. Down in Florida. Apparently. Yeah. Yeah. News to Michael. I guess that's where he's from.
SPEAKER_04:You know? It really did. I mean, I'm telling you, it blew my mind. It really did.
SPEAKER_00:That's not a lot of mind there to blow, apparently.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. Anyway, that's if you were Zeke and Zaley.
SPEAKER_03:Did you know they're like, yeah, did you not?
SPEAKER_04:Did you know that Flowrida just spells out Florida?
SPEAKER_00:If you put the emphasis on the right syllable.
SPEAKER_04:Exactly. Exactly. Which apparently I wasn't doing it. This is not sponsored by Florida or Florida.
SPEAKER_00:Just the whole state.
SPEAKER_04:Or Florida Orange Juice. Either.
SPEAKER_00:Florida Tourism Bureau.
SPEAKER_04:Man, I would be terrified to live there with the with the alligators.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that would that would not be fun. There's lots of stuff to kill you down there.
SPEAKER_04:I remember on Robin Big, they went down for a surf competition. And like they there was a gator like crossing the street, which I guess is a normal thing.
SPEAKER_03:And Rob Deerdick's first instinct. Let me kick flip over.
SPEAKER_04:Yes. Yeah. So then Big Black's like, oh, I'll run and jump over it.
SPEAKER_03:But it's funny because he like ran and jumped over the tail.
SPEAKER_04:Because he can only get up like six inches off the ground. So he just like barely made it over it. Like, I wouldn't have even done that. Like, no, thank you.
SPEAKER_00:That's how you get bit. That's how you end up on the news.
SPEAKER_04:Right. Like, no, not happening. Or like uh, you see those um, what is it, that the windboat where you can go out like in the like the swamps? Like, absolutely not.
SPEAKER_00:What if you hit a gator? That seems like it would hurt.
SPEAKER_03:Or yeah. Yeah. I wonder, I wonder what the uh what insurance people hear down there. Right, right.
SPEAKER_02:So I hit this gator.
SPEAKER_04:I blew my engine. What happened, gator? I guess it would be normal though.
SPEAKER_00:Right, right, yeah.
SPEAKER_04:Like, yeah, all right. Well, you got coverage for that.
SPEAKER_00:Like, what? Yeah. Have you ever seen I've seen uh videos of hippos attacking vicious crazy? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Are so violent.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's like their bite, well, their by force is like like what 87,000.
SPEAKER_04:Like crazy amount. Because I, you know, I see where they do like the um the uh watermelons where they like throw them to and it's like they are just easily crunching down.
SPEAKER_03:Think about a water watermelon in your hands, yeah, and the way they're chomping at it looks like they're chewing on a gummy.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, yeah. It's like that doesn't look good at all. It looks like a chewy spree for them. Like, absolutely not. Oh, did I unplug? What is going on? My headphones unplugged. Absolutely not. I don't want any part of any of that.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, pass, hard pass.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, hard pass for sure. What's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, what's up, everybody. Welcome back to a brand new episode of the Almost Brothers Podcast. On today's episode, we're gonna be talking about the masks that we wear. You didn't introduce it. As always, I've got Richie Rich. He's so hurt. I don't know what kind of half snort that was.
SPEAKER_00:But you didn't introduce us.
SPEAKER_04:Like his face down which way we we're working on our video, so we'll we'll have that together. But I wish, I wish I had his face. You didn't you didn't introduce us. Like just we matter, Mike. Broken, and also tie tie. Nah, forget it.
SPEAKER_02:I'm over it. Almost banged up with this stupid podcast. I'm over it.
SPEAKER_04:That's funny. That, yeah, that's that's that's pretty awesome. Yeah. So how y'all doing, man? How's your week going?
SPEAKER_03:It's going crappy now.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, you just ruined it. Yeah, that's funny.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, hope this episode sucks.
SPEAKER_04:It's like, wait, I'm on here. Hold up. Yeah, just talking about, you know, the the mask we wear, the fronts that we put on in our life, um, to mask what we're really going through, how we're really feeling, what we're really dealing with, and why it's important to open up to one another, finding a group. That's why I love small groups where you can you can really open up to some some people and in in a smaller environment and and tell them how you really are.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that's what we talked about in men's group tonight was you know, having a smaller group of people, you know, that that you can open up to that because it's a lot, I mean, it's harder out in the sanctuary, you know, go to the altar and and really lay something out there, but to have that smaller group, be like, look, guys, this is what I'm dealing with. You know, I need prayer, I need lifted up. It's a lot easier to have that conversation.
SPEAKER_04:Right. Yeah, and it and it's so needed. You know, the Bible says we are to bear each other's burdens. How can you do that if you don't know what your brother or sister are going through? Like, you know, it do y'all think people like people are scared to open up because society tells you to to have it all together?
SPEAKER_00:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Partially, and I think the other side of it is uh people are a uh people are afraid of people being afraid of their messiness. Yeah. And saying, Oh, we're here for you. Oh, you're dealing with that.
SPEAKER_04:Right, that's good. Yeah. Yeah. Like it's a burden on others. And and I guess there are people that act like that, you know, so maybe they've been burnt before by really opening up to somebody and they're like, I I didn't really want to help you with all that. I just seeing how you were doing and not actually wanting to know how you're doing. So I I get that if they've been burnt by it, but man, I couldn't imagine not having somebody, a group of of buddies to go to and say, Hey, I'm I'm fighting this week. I mean, I'm struggling.
SPEAKER_00:Well, and that's what came up in men's group was the one of my darkest times lately that I can remember when me and Jennifer separated and and and having you guys there for me, you know. I would this is no joking at all. I would not have made it through that without y'all. I just would not have made it.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. And I feel so bad for people that don't have that or don't seek that out. Right. Or don't think that's important because it it's so crucial to even have somebody to to go to and to to just vent or get something off your chest, or even run something by them that maybe, you know, maybe you're going to your boss and you need to have a tough conversation with a boss, and you have a buddy that you go, hey, let can I run something by you? What do you think of this? And they can kind of give you pointers on maybe you're missing something, or maybe there's a way that you feel that isn't really legit, and they can kind of talk it out with you, and now you can have a good conversation or maybe see both sides of it a little bit better, you know, to be able to to run things by people and almost like filters. So I use I use y'all a lot for like filters and just hey, here's what I'm going through, here's what I'm dealing with, what do you think? And get your feedback and then go, okay, here's where I was at, here's where they're at. Now I can kind of see a little bit from different points of view, right? You know, and not have to, and it I I I pray, which I know Jamie has some people she can go to, but she's kind of she's really kind of to herself a lot. She doesn't really open up to a lot of people, and it's because she has been burnt in the past, but I wanna I want to make sure and I I try to encourage her to have that, to have that group of friends or at least one or two people that she can really open up to.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I I desperately worry about Jennifer and that because she has nobody that well, I say she has she doesn't seek out like yeah, like you said, she does not look, she doesn't let people know what she's going through. Not even me, really. She doesn't really say, Hey, I'm dealing with this right now, you know, can we talk about it? Pray for me, you know. She just doesn't. Yeah, I don't know why that is, but but you're right, to not have that is is a scary thing.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. Especially for a husband. You don't want to tell your wife or or or or kind of let them know when you're really struggling. You know, I talked about a few weeks ago where I'll like I'll like go take a shower or something, and that's kind of my time to really kind of let the the frustrations come out. Sometimes I'll go in there and I'll just cry. Like it is what it is. Yeah. And it's because I don't want to show my wife that I am struggling, you know. So it it it becomes hard because I've got to be strong for our family and I've got to lead our family. And sometimes I don't even want to leave the house, yeah, much less lead the family.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_04:You know, so that's my time to kind of go in there and and kind of let the frustration out a little bit. You know, that's why I I talk about all the time. Video games are my outlet to de-stress and to try to get some of the frustrations out. I used to have a boxing bag that I used, but um and basketball used to be a huge outlet for me, but I lost all that. So having friends to confide in is really where where I've been able to lean at. What what are some of the ways that y'all find? I know Tyler, you do music. I know, I know that kind of releases a lot of that, a lot of that for you. But so what what's some of the ways that you you try to seek out either moments where you can clear your mind or or times where you can just get with a buddy and just go, hey, you know, can I can I talk to you? Literally when I call you. Yeah, there you go. And and I and I told you this the last time you you called me, I'm like, man, I'm so glad that you can do that with me, that that you feel comfortable enough. Because you're kind of a a more guarded person. You know, you don't really open up on your emotions a lot.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, he never calls me. I hate it.
SPEAKER_04:I hate the emotion.
SPEAKER_00:Not ever.
SPEAKER_04:But but hey.
SPEAKER_00:I'm hurt now.
SPEAKER_04:Dang, I didn't have made both of y'all. Hope you hate this episode too. No, we both of it sucked. But no, it's it's and I I love being that for you guys. Like I really do. It it means so much. So I I hope you never think that it's a burden or like I don't really want to call them, or because it really does it, it, it may even if I don't have the time at that moment, I'm like, hey, I'm gonna let me call you back, or or I'll make time at that moment, you know, and be like, hey, I I want to be here for you because I want to battle with y'all in those things. You know, so trying to make y'all feel like I'm a safe outlet for y'all is is a huge priority for me.
SPEAKER_00:Well, and it goes both ways. You know, you should be able to also call us and be like, hey, I'm I'm dealing with this, you know. It's because it is, it's a two-way street. You know, you you have that avenue also. It's a lot of road.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, street avenues. I've seen a video where it's like it was these guys, they're playing, I think it was like Call of Duty online, and the captions like this is like the epitome of male friendships. And it deals like, hey, would you guys be there for me if I was going through stuff? And me's like, no. I hope whatever you're going through is really hard. Yeah, yeah, just talking crap to each other.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. It's like, oh man, all right. Well, yeah. I see him on kind of like this. Like, are you gonna cry now? Like, man, bro, like that's how you feel. I like those, and I like how quick guys become friends. Yeah, it's like you're walking by each other in the gym. It's like you don't even know their names.
SPEAKER_03:You don't even know their name. I've done that before, too. Oh, yeah. And it and like there's been points where where we get to that point, I don't know their name. Like, I just I kind of feel awkward now. Yeah, yeah. Because I don't want to be like, what who I was gonna ask you, okay. Do you ever ask their name or do you try to ghost them at that point? I stopped I stopped walking that one way or it's like what's up and bro, like I'm scared to ask your name. I can't remember, dude. Like, there's a a couple guys when I was in uh college and I go to the gym there, they're like you know, going around the same time, see them. What's up, you know, yeah, the casual uh uh whatever we call them, you know, salutations or whatever. And I was like, I don't even know this guy's name. Yeah. I just need to go another time. Just switch days all together. Old mother gym.
SPEAKER_04:We used to go Tuesday, Thursday. I'm calling Monday Monday, Wednesday, Friday from now on to stay away.
SPEAKER_00:Man, that's I have a I have a trick where I put I'll if I talk to somebody a couple times, I'll put their name in my phone. Yeah. And I'll be like, hey, how do you spell your first and last name? Yeah. You know, so I can get them to tell me their name. But now my phone is full of random people I can't remember.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. It's got like a note section under the con under their contact. And I'll put like like if it's like a random person I met or like how like just how how I'm associated with them. If I if they're not someone I know personally.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, his phone says benches 250. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:That's what I do is I'll put in parentheses. Yeah. I'll like uh like oh like lit I literally have to see if I have an example. Yeah, like like Brittany Hudgens. Okay, so she's been in our youth for a long time. So when when she first was in our youth, I would put I'd put Brittany and then in the parentheses youth. So I know, you know, I I relate to okay who it is and who it is, and I remember exactly. Yeah, so it's still in there like that. It's just been like that for years.
SPEAKER_03:Last person I added was uh Brandon Brandon King. He was uh Jamie was telling me about that 4 Kings Coffee Shop. So I have 14 coffee under there.
SPEAKER_04:Dude, so good.
SPEAKER_03:We're I think we got a date to play there.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, to play, yeah, because we were there. I'm telling you, all right, listen. This is you heard it here first.
SPEAKER_00:Now he's off subject.
SPEAKER_04:14 minutes, okay? I need to start getting my 10%, okay? We are, I am your manager, we're finding spots, man. I'm telling you, that's what everywhere we go, we're like, man, we need to call Tyler and Liv and see if they want to do some music here.
SPEAKER_03:But real quick, let it be known that how much you say 10%? 10% of zero is still zero. That's true. That's all he because he was asking, like, you know, is this like a situation where you're kind of expecting to pay? I say, no, that's yeah, I said, we're not gonna turn down an offering, but we don't expect money.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, we went in there and we had it was it's been a few weeks, and that was exactly what we said. Like, man, we need to get Tyler and Livett because it's a Christian dude, it is always packed in there. Where's it at? I went three times. It's in Jonesboro. Oh, okay. I went three times, and it is like I'm telling like no seats packed, like 50 people in here.
SPEAKER_03:He was it's really, really awesome. Telling me how he's got people that I can't I can't remember if he said they all go to the same church they're on the worship team or they're go to separate churches, but he said he has a bunch of people on his staff that are on worship teams. Yeah and they had a four kings worship night there. He said they had people out in the parking lot. Wow. Yeah, it wait He said that he said easily over a hundred people. Yeah, it's crazy.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, and it it's really, really cool in there. Yeah, so I try I try to go by there when I gotta run to Sam's. I try to go in there and grab a coffee, but usually I have to get it to go because there's nowhere to sit. But uh what were we talking about? Where were we at? I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, coffee on the brain, that's it.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, I'm telling you, man.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, we're talking about uh we're talking about crap. No, we're talking we're talking about putting people by and yeah, yeah, that's right, yeah. Which I don't even know how we got there because that's also not on the subject.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, I don't either. But yeah, that happens, man.
SPEAKER_03:It's just like it does. I put them in what the randomness conversations or not knowing who people are. Exactly. So so masks, yeah. Clarification, yeah. So yeah, usually when I put mine on, I and it's a green man and it's really cartoon stuff.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. But we really do. We we we put them on and we pretend we're we pretend we're doing better than we are, and it doesn't, I don't think that helps us at all. Right. Because we get used to doing that, and now we're not true not only to others, but we're not being real with ourselves on what we're dealing with. We don't we don't admit, man, I'm I'm struggling and I need somebody to talk to. And I think that's why you know you you'll you'll hear people, you know, in their 20s or 30s, they'll go to a um a therapist, and all these things begin to come out from their past that they never talked to anybody about because they're scared to death to bring it up.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:And now they're starting to bring it up and they finally see some breakthrough and they think it's because the therapist is amazing, and some of these are, it's great therapy. They go to it. It's it's awesome to be able to talk, but a lot of that is just talking about the things that you've struggled with. If you would have just done that in the first place, you'd have been you you'd have been able to get through it pretty well, you know. Um it's just kind of kind of one of those things. Be able be be okay with being not okay.
SPEAKER_00:Right. Jelly Roll's got a song, uh, I am not okay. Yeah. Really good. Not a huge jelly roll fan, don't want to get into it. But that song is really good. And it's that's what it is. It's I am not okay, barely getting by. I can't be the only one dealing with this stuff, you know. I can't be the only one that's not okay all the time.
SPEAKER_04:I don't think I've ever, ever listened to a jelly roll song. Number one. Number two, cool. Does his name spell out something I'm not aware of? Uh I just want to make sure. Jelly Roll. Okay.
SPEAKER_03:It's short for gelatin rolly polyoli. It's hyphenated.
SPEAKER_04:It wouldn't surprise me. It wouldn't surprise me. I know that song that you sent us that which I get it was only a snippet of it. Yeah. Because I was I was listening on my headphones while I was driving. It's like Tyler sent a message, it says, and it started playing. Yeah. And then so I'm listening. I'm like, my goodness, this is a man. And it just shut off.
SPEAKER_00:And I'm like, was it the whole thing?
SPEAKER_04:But it was just a snip. Dude.
SPEAKER_00:You're talking about shotgun? Yes. Yeah. Oh, dude. So disclaimer, I have shared that with some people. I don't know if I was supposed to or not, but I had to. Yeah. So I uh I I shared it with Jennifer and the kids, and then I played it for the youth Wednesday night. I did the lesson there, and it was just dude, it's it's I wish we could play it on here, but I don't know that we have the means to do so. But the it the message is just we've all been there, dude. Like it's just incredible.
SPEAKER_04:Does it get to the point to where this is what happened when he sent that, and I wanted a text back, and I'm like, I don't want it to seem superficial. It's like it's like commenting on your kids like Zeke, Zeke's basketball playing. I don't feel like it really he really understands when it comes from me because it's like, oh, you're supposed to say that. So like I'm trying to word this. How do I tell him how good this is without him being like, yeah, but it's my boy. Like, he of course he's gonna say that. But dude, it is you have a gift. You really, really do. Yeah, and I don't know if it hits you coming from us because I'm like, okay, they're just saying that. I don't really feel that way. Dude, I'm like, this is like so good. Yeah. So, so good. And I know you don't have a lot of equipment, so that's even without some of these professional equipment. But I'm like, good lord.
SPEAKER_00:The fact that I have shared it with 20 people by now, I mean, that's it's not superficial. It's it's so legitimate. The lyrics, dude, they hit. I mean, it's it's so good.
SPEAKER_04:So good. And I feel like, correct me if I'm wrong and and and you can elaborate, I feel like sometimes, because I've talked to you kind of about this a little bit, but you almost have to put a mask on when you're leading, but really on the inside you feel like you're not worthy of leading.
SPEAKER_03:100%. That was that was me today. I was in the absolute worst mood. Yeah. And it was for me, it was and it sounds bad when I say like this. For me, it was a horrible service because I was not leading in a place of worship.
SPEAKER_04:Right.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and it and I and I hate that it that it got to that point. Uh and I tried to because I I tried to dig myself out a little bit. Um which I was still digging kind of in the middle of the service, but it it just I was still just in that funk.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. Just from the jump, yeah. And a as a leader, you you really do have to find those people that are not like on your team because you you really don't want to share that with your team in a moment like that, but you definitely definitely find somebody that in that moment you can you can lean on and say, hey, just pray for me. I'm going through it, like I need to lead, and I don't feel like I'm I'm gonna be very effective. Just, you know, I I've had to deal with that before almost on a weekly basis. I just feel very inadequate to go up there. And I I I have buddies that I lean on a lot, or like we'll text each other, like me and Andrew will text each other almost every Sunday morning. Hey, you're gonna do great. I'm praying for you. Hope service is awesome. Oh yeah, man, you two, it's gonna be great. And and we kind of lean on each other because we understand like sometimes you you go through that, and it's just like, man, this is tough, and I can't really tell the people I'm leading because I have to lead them. Right. You know, so I can't get here and be like, hey, everybody, I'm struggling this morning. Like it's gonna be a great service, you know. But finding someone you can lean on and go, Yeah, I'm just I'm I'm going through it. And usually mine is is Zeke. It really is. I don't I don't go into detail with them on on Me struggling, but usually I'll ask him to pray for me because that helps lift me out of that. You know, just like, hey Bubba, come here. Come, will you pray for me just over the service? Hey, I don't think he even knows. That's on mornings where I just don't feel good enough. And he prays for, and I just I get this jolt, and it's just like, all right, let's go.
SPEAKER_03:I do that with Ezra.
SPEAKER_04:No, all I get is, hey, we pray for me, man. Uh no? Okay. What is it? Why are you making that face? What are you doing? Thanks for nothing. Thanks for nothing. But it really is a bubble-blowing baby. But yeah, it uh but then you get like today after service, a lot of encouragement afterwards really, really helps. So it's like, okay, cool. This it was for somebody, you know. So that helps.
SPEAKER_00:That's what really sucks is like when I have a class and like nobody says anything. Yeah. It's like you you hope that because if nobody says anything, you just have to hope that it that it hits some people, you know. But there are times that you know people will comment, you know, good class or whatever, but it's it's hard, man. It it's it's tough because you're putting yourself out there. Yeah. I mean, it it's you're saying, okay, I'm putting myself in front of everybody to do what God has called me to do. God, I hope you're with me when I when I'm doing what you call me to do. So it's it's hard.
SPEAKER_04:And in a in a day and time and in a society where everything is polished and everything looks better than it really is, it's hard to s to to show those vulnerable moments because everybody else's lives online and all that looks fantastic. And oh, look at their house and look at their vacation, and oh, a perfect family, and they've got it all together. It's fabulous. Yeah, and you're just like, this is not me. I'm feeling terrible today. Like I feel down at your watch, you know, the the famous YouTube preachers, and it's like, man, they just seem to have it together all the time. It's like that would be nice.
SPEAKER_03:And you know, I don't necessarily have a problem with um being vulnerable like that and in front of a larger group of people, and because uh you know, I I try to be as authentic as I possibly can. Where I struggle with is I think about my problems and then say, so what? So is everyone else. Yeah. Like they don't matter. Yeah. Like so is everyone else. Big whoop.
SPEAKER_00:Well that's not but then that's not healthy either.
SPEAKER_04:Exactly. Right. Because you're downplaying something that means something to you. Because because not only will we do that with others, we'll go, well, everybody else is going through that too. You'll you'll start to do that with God going, well, I'm not gonna pray about he's busy enough with bigger problems. There's kids starving, and there's all this other stuff. My little problems don't matter, but they do, they matter to God, you know. Everything that we're dealing with matters, you know. So being able to understand, yeah, maybe everybody else is going through it. That doesn't make yours any less important and it doesn't make it any easier.
SPEAKER_00:Years ago, I I saw a lady come up to a pastor and she asked the pastor to pre to pray for her dog. Her dog was sick, yada yada. And I was like, Well, that's stupid. And then because I talked to the pastor about that, I was like, it seems like a dumb thing to pray about. Yeah. And she's and he explained to me, God cares about what we care about. Yeah. It may seem simple to somebody or uh or ridiculous, somebody who doesn't care about that dog, but she did. Right. And to have God on her side for anything is is important. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So I thought it was a good lesson learned. Reminds me of John Christ, the comedian. He's like, something's not gonna pray for. Oh, pray for my son, whatever. His his wrist. And he'll be like, Oh, text or be like, So what's oh, he's just his his wrist's been hurting from playing those video games. I'm not praying for that. Tell him to stop playing video games. Yeah, oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04:That's so funny. Yeah. Well, let's let's uh let's take those masks off. Yeah, it's a good idea. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, have a have a demasking match. Oh Lord, have mercy. Well now. Don't be bringing up wrestling. Be okay to be talking about wrestling. Be okay to be vulnerable. Be okay to open up and say how you really are.
SPEAKER_00:Find somebody in your life that you can do that with.
SPEAKER_04:Yes, absolutely. Yep.
SPEAKER_00:If you don't, give us a call. That's right. Holler at the Almost Brothers. We'll be there for you. Yep. Uh what's that phone number?
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. Um, 777-7777. Wait, no, that's like a that's like on a billboard.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, that's like uh, you know, that's an attorney. Insurance claim. Yeah. Call 7777. Don't call that number. What's the number? I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:Just press 7 until you can't.
SPEAKER_04:Yep. So what's uh let's move into that? What's up? What's some things that y'all had going on this week, man? Some some so are you ready for D now? I mean, that's a long time away, but you you're gonna do some. So I talked to this isn't even that's what's I'm sorry. I'm I'm I'm just excited. We're all three back together. Let's go. So anyway, shut up, Richard. So uh I talked to Jared the other day, you know. I'm like, hey, Tyler and Liver in. And he said, Oh, awesome. Yeah, I've been I've been sending some of their music to the kids anyway for them to listen to, so they're they're really hyped. So I just want to let you know they're they're that's probably why we uh why our videos have over 500 views.
SPEAKER_03:That's uh yeah, that's a hundred kids in that in that one group, so they yeah, absolutely we only have like a hundred followers on TikToks, but our our each one of our ticks are are getting at I think around 700 plus views.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I deleted TikTok. Sorry. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:Never had it. You guys have MySpace or AOL.
SPEAKER_00:Have the book of faces.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, so what's some stuff going on, man?
SPEAKER_00:Uh yeah. Yeah. I don't have a lot going on. You know, we're on season like 11 of Inkmaster uh watching, you know, some of our other shows are coming back soon. Yeah. Uh Will Trent started back up. High potential.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, it's almost like some like summer and fall are kind of the two big show times.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, they take breaks, which the rookie they just do two episodes and take a six-month break, but that's a whole other thing. That's so dumb. Yeah. I need to work for the rookie. That's what I need to do. Obviously, man. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Do the scheduling. Yeah. Obviously. They forget, wait. What day is it? Y'all we got a record.
SPEAKER_00:We're supposed to we're supposed to put out an episode. Uh I'm waiting on my last the last cyber dream book. Yeah. I get that the 15th. And uh I'm very excited to see how they kind of wrap all that up. And uh that's about it, man. We haven't had a lot going on, really.
SPEAKER_04:There you go. Ta-Tai, what you got?
SPEAKER_02:What?
SPEAKER_04:Mike? Crop duster flying by? Like what?
SPEAKER_01:I don't know for what's going on.
SPEAKER_03:I've got a lot. So uh I'm sure that much in a week. I've got a lot with movies and video games. It's it's it's all a baby. It's just a cycle, it's like clockwork.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Um some I don't know, listening to some new music and getting into a lot of in floor music. Uh really, really good. It's very good. I love his testimony, and that's what inspired that song. Yeah. Um Did I tell you about that? So he uh he's he's from Vermont and he started doing music and I got really popular, so he went and moved to Nashville to pursue country music and uh started playing music at I think it was 2D's or something like that. And he was uh into I can't remember if he said he was in the drugs, he's in the alcohol, I say. And uh he got he was talking about how he would just drink and drive just all the time. He was talking about how it was a miracle that uh that at any point he didn't kill himself or anyone else. Yeah. Because he was drinking and driving all the time. And he said Jesus wasn't it was in the passenger seat, and that's where the inspiration from that song came from. Oh, that's cool.
SPEAKER_00:We should link that song in our show notes.
SPEAKER_04:I could do that. Send me the is it out, is it like on Spotify or anything yet? No. Okay, no link yet, Richard. How could you get your crap together? You know how much it costs? You may mute him.
SPEAKER_00:How would I know that?
SPEAKER_04:You may mute him, I'll do it.
SPEAKER_00:He's just looking for a reason.
SPEAKER_04:I'll do it.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it sounded good. Sorry, folks, you gotta wait.
SPEAKER_03:Well, it's uh that's so good. Like, I don't have the software to record a professional, professionally sounding song. I would have to send that to someone to do, which I'm making connections with people. Do you want to play a little bit for our listeners? Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_04:It's completely up to you. I don't care. Well, pull it up on your phone.
SPEAKER_03:You can pull it up on your phone.
SPEAKER_04:I don't have my phone with me.
SPEAKER_03:I got you. Yep. For a second, I thought that was a that I thought it was an eight millimeter. You hold on.
SPEAKER_04:Do you have lightning or USB C?
SPEAKER_03:Yes.
SPEAKER_04:You have to pull up on your phone.
SPEAKER_00:What do you got there?
SPEAKER_04:USB C.
SPEAKER_00:Is it the white one? You see.
SPEAKER_04:I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do with this man. Y'all, if you are listening, please help me.
SPEAKER_00:Is it the white one?
SPEAKER_03:Help me! You know what I mean. I actually did finish the song.
SPEAKER_04:Oh. Please help me.
SPEAKER_03:I'll play the I'll play the part you have to.
SPEAKER_04:Figure your phone. Is it the white one? I don't like you. Oh my gosh. Yeah, so we're gonna play a little a little preview of a song that Tyler wrote. And it is it is great. Great, great, great. Maybe if you push it up.
SPEAKER_03:This is the bridge to the end. Uh are you connecting a pair of headphones? Switch devices, you can Yeah, that's why.
SPEAKER_01:You forgot your phone. My knuckled hands on the wheel of my car screen. God, are you there? I don't know where you are. I'll straight the pain away. Well that I heard you stay. I'm still here. After every pill and bottle, I'm still here. Even when it thought that I had disappeared.
SPEAKER_04:It is so good.
SPEAKER_00:So March 1st, 5 o'clock, there's gonna be a worship night with Tyler Liv here at the place.
SPEAKER_04:Man, it is it's just so good, man.
SPEAKER_00:Yes. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_04:So that's something. That's what's up right there. That's what you've been up to. Shoot. Shoot. All right, Mike. Oh man. Okay. So how much time we got? Um so lately I've been I've been searching through, which I gotta go to my dad's house and and get all my stuff in storage, but I've been I've been digging back into my classic games collection.
SPEAKER_03:Did I do that out loud?
SPEAKER_04:You did.
SPEAKER_03:It's my fault.
SPEAKER_04:So I've been playing like uh some N64 games, some Banjo Kazooie, some uh you know, Zelda Ocarina of time, been playing a lot of that. So I'm digging all of my old systems out. I'm I'm getting my Dreamcast, I'm gonna get my 64, my NES, and start hooking those up and really just digging into some childish. Yeah, uh so I yeah, I'm I'm I'm I've really been on that the past you know couple weeks, so I've been been focused on that. We watched the new Ben Affleck and Matt Damon movie. Oh yeah. It is really, really good. What's the name of that? Yeah, I'm trying to uh the The Rip? The Rip. Yeah Yeah, it's really really good. It's like a it's like an action. Yeah, I gotta say it's really really good. It's got good twist. It's got two really good twists. Netflix. Yeah. Um watched a couple documentaries, watched that um that one about the the girl that was getting all these crazy text messages. The yeah, yeah, it's like the mystery number or whatever. I hated it.
SPEAKER_03:You hate it so bad. Like so bad. Yeah. What what was your immediate reaction when you found out who it was?
SPEAKER_04:I I I heard about the story, so I kind of knew who it was. I was shocked when, and I don't, I'm not gonna spoil it. So I was shocked when she was a part of the actual thing, and I'm like, so that's her? And Jamie's like, yeah. I'm like, why is she being interviewed? Why isn't she in jail? Like, what is happening right now? Dumb, dumb. Oh, I was so mad. Yeah, so we watched that. We watched um, y'all heard about the Murdohs?
unknown:Murdoch.
SPEAKER_04:The Murdahl family. So this was a huge, huge thing that that um happened. It was like 20, it was like 2019 is when the first event happened, and then all of this stuff started unraveling. So there was a there was a boat wreck that happened with one of their sons. That uh it was a bunch of friends, they were out there and had a wreck, girl died. Uh, spoiler alert for anybody who hasn't watched this or heard about this story. Crap! Yeah, girl died, and then all this stuff about this family started on write like dead bodies of people, like it is the craziest story. Like, it is one of the craziest real life stories I've ever heard. Like, you couldn't write this stuff.
SPEAKER_00:That's got to be some rich white people stuff, dude.
SPEAKER_03:It is nuts. So they they they have the S and L skit, or they're kind of it was a news thing, they're talking about that. And it was two two uh black news anchors, two white news anchors, and the black was like, that's y'all people right there.
SPEAKER_04:This is my that's what's up. These two chiming in.
SPEAKER_03:I don't what's the point of us having microphones that we can't chime in?
SPEAKER_04:So um there's a documentary, you know, an extra, and then there's a docuseries where they re it oh my gosh, it's so good.
SPEAKER_00:I'm just not a documentary guy. Yeah, it's hard for me to do that.
SPEAKER_03:I'm kind of the same, it just it depends on the documentary, but that that one, and then the one uh it's called What Jennifer Did. Yeah, this girl murdered. Yeah, that's that was one we watched the other night, and it was like, ooh, whoa.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, okay. And then we watched um the staircase. So again, I've seen the documentary, but then they did a docuseries of that. You watch a lot of stuff, and uh it was it was really, really good.
SPEAKER_03:Wow, does he find the time?
SPEAKER_04:Really, really good. Really, really good. I do have a question for you though. Well, I'm up till three in the morning every morning, not being able to see insomnia.
SPEAKER_00:I do have a question. Yeah. When you play all your old systems, are you gonna become a fat guy again? I just want to be able to share that with you. I'm sorry. I just didn't want the nostalgia to bring you back to that, you know, whole package of Oreos while you're playing Zelda.
SPEAKER_03:Ocarina of time. Yeah. So about that opening up to people. You need somebody to talk to after this.
SPEAKER_04:Oh, man. So I've been on that. I'm I'm I'm going through stuff. I hope it sucks. I am I am so pumped for the for there's some games coming out. There's Batman, Lego Batman's coming out, but I am so ready. What is it? Video game? Yes. I play it. I love the Lego games. Oh, yes, it looks so good. And then the He-Man movie, I cannot explain how excited I am for this movie.
SPEAKER_00:I just hope it's as good as it can be.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, I am so, so pumped. I've seen it or looks amazing.
SPEAKER_03:I've seen kind of some of the I can't remember who it was, but I remember like looking at the cast and be like, solid people. Yeah, cool.
SPEAKER_04:Which I'm I'm worried, but I'm glad it's not gonna be him. It's he's it's everyone. CGI and it's his voice. It Jared Leto is Skeletor. So it's like, oh yeah, I'm not a big Jared Leto. Like, uh I don't know. But so uh, you know, with it being Skeletor, I think it's gonna be really I'm so so stoked. It's gonna be good. Uh and that, the Mario movie. Yes. I'm oh I'm so excited about it.
SPEAKER_00:Jennifer's excited because Yoshi's in it. Yes. Oh I can't wait.
SPEAKER_04:Well, baby Mario and Baby Luigi's in it. Oh, yeah. Oh, I cannot wait. And and Bowser Jr. Bowser Jr. is coming to save his dad. Yeah, that's that was in the preview. That'd be good stuff. So I'm ready for that to come out, and then Mortal Kombat 2 is coming out. It's Johnny Cage. Yes, yeah. It got changed. It was supposed to come out in March, and they got changed, I think, to May.
SPEAKER_00:Are we actually gonna see some good movies this year?
SPEAKER_04:I it it seems like it. It seems it seems I've got a list, you know, that I've that I've made.
SPEAKER_00:So I would like to go to the movies more this year.
SPEAKER_04:And not be disappointed with so those are coming out. Ninja Turtles 2 is getting re-released in theaters in like three weeks. Yeah, I'd like to see that. So I'm gonna see that. Um Scream. The new Scream is coming out in three weeks, in like two or three weeks. I would like to see. I mean, it is just like it seems like it's gonna be a good year for movies, and then the end of the year, into 20. Yeah, into 2027 for video games is supposed to be really, really good. No, no, no. Really, what got me hooked, and spoiler alert, give it some time if you don't want to hear. What really got me hooked is Matthew Lillard has signed on to this. Somehow, somehow, that anything he is in, I'm I'm 100% for.
SPEAKER_00:They're making a series out of 13 ghosts.
SPEAKER_04:Yes, I've seen that with him and Christina Ricci are supposed to sign with it.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I'm excited about that. That was one of the only scary movies I really, really liked. Yeah, wasn't that a Rob Zombie movie? No.
SPEAKER_04:No, I thought it wasn't. And he he is one of my favorite early 2000s actors. I think he's so underrated. Everything he is ever.
SPEAKER_03:He is really, really good. There should never ever be anyone that plays Shaggy. Oh, he's perfect. Yeah, he is shaggy. He literally is Shaggy. He's not he is not just him, yeah. That is he is shaggy.
SPEAKER_00:Did you ever see Hackers 80s? Yes. Oh, yes. Matthew. Serial killer.
SPEAKER_04:Without a paddle. I loved him in that. My mind's telling me the more he He's just so good. And and just watching him age gracefully, like I watched the interview actually like last night with him, talking about how they were asking about kind of his legacy in movies. And he said, My legacy now is is I I could care less about the legacy of movies. My legacy is my kids.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:And he went into this story about his mom and how he remembers they were sitting in a closet and they were reading a history book, and his mom said, You know, I will never ever be in a history book. My history is living on through you. And he said he didn't really understand it then, but he understands it now. How his kid and he got emotional. It's like, this just seems like such an uh an awesome Right. Just you want to hang out with him.
SPEAKER_03:Yes, just down to earth, dude. I see I see on TikTok like he's at these like comic-cons and confessions and stuff like that, and uh all these people doing like oh rating, meeting these celebrities, and uh everyone just singing praises about meeting Matthew Lillard.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, oh that uh that's another one. Um Five Nights at Freddy's uh two. That I think it came out already. I think we we missed it at theaters, but yeah, he's in that.
SPEAKER_00:I didn't see the first one, so I don't even know what that is. Is it a Roblox thing? Is that uh no, it's a it's his own video game.
SPEAKER_04:It's its own game. So you weren't the more you weren't that far off. He's unk. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Unk status. That means you're old. You're you're oh it's okay because. No, wait, wait, wait. No, he can't be unk. Zeke says I'm unk. So you're you're OG. You're OG status. Yeah, that's what you are now.
SPEAKER_00:You want to feel how hard I could punch? Um OG old. Grumpy. Oh grumpster.
SPEAKER_04:See? I feel OG. Then what does that make me? You're you're still pup. No, you're you're what it what do they call it? I can't remember. I can't remember what Z. You had to ask Zeke on that one. I can't remember.
SPEAKER_00:We don't know what we are.
SPEAKER_04:But uh but yeah, so tired of me. Well that's too dang bad. Yeah, there man, there are there are some some good ones coming out, man, for sure. Um that I'm I'm pumped to watch. So I know there was another one that I'm really excited about, but I can't remember what it was.
SPEAKER_00:Um You know Shy LeBeau hated hoes. Yeah, yes, yeah. I'll watch his interview.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, where he's talking about uh the the warden dude or whatever. Yeah. Right. What what do you call it?
SPEAKER_00:Character acting. He was never out of character acting.
SPEAKER_04:Uh yeah, it was Will William Dafoe. John Voigt. John Voigt, that's who it was, yep. Method acting, yeah. Him and his dad got into it. Yeah. Uh I think he's another one. I think he I know he went kind of crazy there for a while, but I really I still to this day, and it's just my own personal, I think he is one of the best top 20 actors to ever live. Yeah, well I really, really do.
SPEAKER_00:And what I really love about him is he knows it. Yeah, he's admitted, you're like, hey, I I screwed up. I screwed up my own career. Yeah, now he's trying to fix it. I mean, it's it's he's just so everything he's in it so good.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, there's so many of those child actors that they're once they once they're done with puberty, yeah, it's it almost seems like Hollywood kind of drops them and now they're on their own and and can't function. Yeah. And there's I mean, there's so many of them and so many stories and and documentaries on these things coming out about these childhood stars, you know, they're you know being abused, being exploited, and you know, and you know, they're they're by the time they hit you know 14, 15 years old, they're looking too old for the parts. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Well, they they had that Dickie Roberts movie, yeah, and it was a it was a full-on comedy, right? But one of the scenes they were playing poker, and they're talking about what they miss about being famous. And um Davis Spade's character, he said, I miss being loved. You know, when I was famous, that's when my mom was, you know, love me. And it was like, wow, that's pretty deep.
SPEAKER_04:Because I bet I get that's what people yeah, that yeah, because I mean how many stories come out like you know, Britney Spears and her dad, and oh, he loved her, and he was there, and then all of a sudden, when she wasn't famous anymore, now he's gone, he's stealing from her, and all these things. It's like, oh yeah, I bet that happens all the time. Yeah, all the time. I know uh what's her name? Uh Misha Barton, she was the same way. Her mom, you know, exploited her when she was a teenage actor, and then just dropped her and and you know, just out there kind of on their own, and it's like, man, it's so sad.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so sad.
SPEAKER_03:There's a guy from a show that I watched as a kid. Um, like the three main characters are still I mean, they're not like I they've got they're doing like the conventions and stuff, and they have their own podcasts and stuff talking about, you know, in the industry and blah blah blah. Well, one of uh the uh characters on the show on the a guy that was acting on the show. He's uh the show's from like oh gosh, probably almost 15 years ago.
SPEAKER_00:And the he says that like it's a long time ago. Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_03:Well, given some context, shut up. Anyways, uh this kid, this dude that was on there, kind of uh not a main character, it's kind of a side quest character almost. Uh he's homeless now, and he's been all over TikTok. I've seen that, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I didn't recognize him because 15 years ago I've kind of an adult.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, so 15 years ago, you're playing out retirement.
SPEAKER_00:Easy. I should have been, but I wasn't.
SPEAKER_04:Oh man, that's messed up. So we're about to end this episode, but come back next week. Listen to this episode, come back for next week. We're gonna be talking about nostalgia. We're gonna be talking about our childhood, the things we love, the things we miss, the thing again, yeah. Yeah, I have absolutely the things that really just hit uh just hit a spot in our soul. And why nostalgia is such a thing? Why is it such a thing that, man, you just get these feelings? Like it could be a smell that just takes you back. It could be a food that takes you back. And for Tyler, that was last week.
SPEAKER_05:So, I think it's a good thing.
