Hello everyone and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday. I am Jenn and joined as always by my partner in podcasting, Meggan. So we are recording this in advance because Meggan and I are heading out on back to back trips, uh, which is very exciting, and I wanted to talk to you about booking an open jaw itinerary. Meggan, had you heard this term before? I had indeed heard of the term, um, but I've not experienced the term. So why don't you share what you're gonna be doing? Yes, so my husband and I are in just a few hours really flying to Ottawa, and then we are coming home from Montreal. These flights are booked on the same reservation, so this is called an open jaw flight. It could be the other way around. For instance, if we were leaving Halifax and flying to Toronto, and then later flying Toronto to Calgary instead of back to Halifax. So open Jaw can be a really great way to book travel if you're planning on visiting multiple cities and you don't wanna go back to the first destination before flying home, or you could have to book it for a cruise that , doesn't bring you back to your departure port. Right. So for us, we booked it because we wanted to visit two cities and it actually was cheaper to fly home from Montreal. So that worked out. We've booked it before on our honeymoon and it was just a repositioning thing. We flew Halifax-Reykjavik, Reykjavik-London, and then home from Paris. So before you book your flights with an open jaw itinerary, there's a couple things you should do. You should double check if it's cheaper to book one way flights instead. Google flights is a great way to explore your options, but I would always book directly with the airline. It could be a good way to book with points or miles. If you're doing like a rewards flight, you might get a better bang for your rewards bucks. Um, and then of course, before you book your flight, this goes for all flights really. Double, triple, quadruple. Check that you're booking the right dates and the right two cities.'cause you don't wanna make a mistake. Yeah, no, for sure. That would be, uh, that would be an unfortunate way to end your trip. It definitely would. So Meggan, I know you said you haven't done this before. Would you consider booking an open jaw flight? definitely. I think it would be something that would, and during the booking process, raise my anxiety for sure to make sure, okay, are, are we getting from point A to B, to C to D and then back home like, but I think of course, see the value in it. I've just never had a trip where I've had the opportunity to do it or need to do it. Mm-hmm. in the future 'cause it sounds very metropolitan. Um, very international. But yeah, no, I've not done it, but I definitely would be open to it if it's needed. Yeah, it's just something to know and, and it was a kind of a good like vocabulary, travel vocabulary word to have in the back of your mind. If someone tells you that they're booking an open jaw flight, now that we all know what it is. So that is all we have for this week's episode.
