Hello and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast. I am Jenn and I am joined by my partner in podcasting. Meggan and Meggan, you are getting ready to go on a trip. So I have to ask, how many bags are you and your husband taking and are you packed yet? I am surprisingly not packed yet. Oh, wow. gonna start tomorrow though, which leaves me I think five business days. Um, and we're each gonna take a backpack and each going to take a suitcase. Okay, so this leads really well into my travel tip Tuesday for you today, which is a packing strategy called cross packing. So. What is cross packing? If you are traveling with two or more bags, the idea is that each person traveling would pack a little bit of clothes and items in each bag. So the sole purpose of this is just in case your luggage gets lost, you would at least have a few things of your own. So I often do this. And a little bit differently because I pack at least two outfits in my carry-on so that if my checked luggage is lost or delayed, I have some options without buying some things. I just have to say, always make sure to carry the essentials in your carry-on medication, cash, valuables, tickets, charging cords. Whatever you deem to be essential. Um, but essentially this is just another way to minimize the effect on your trip if your luggage does happen to go missing or is delayed. But don't forget, if airlines do lose your luggage, you are entitled to compensation, including replacing the contents and the suitcase. So, Meggan, have you ever cross packed in the future and do you think you will do it for this trip? Maybe. I do what you do. So I've never crossed, packed, uh, Peter and I have never crossed, packed with things. Oh no. Um, but I have added to my carryon and I will do that this time. I mean, there's no reason not to, I guess I've just never really thought about it, but I think it is a great idea. I think the only issue I think he would have is 'cause he just automatically thinks I pack too much, so then his suitcase is going to weigh too much where my suitcase will, you know what I'm saying? Like yeah. My problems that I have. Um, but yeah, I definitely will put some stuff. We both got new backpacks, so I'll probably, , put like an outfit and extra, extra blooms in there in case things go missing. But it, thankfully for this trip, it's a direct flight, so fingers crossed, crossed. Yeah. our stuff gets on. But I think this is a great idea and I think it just makes real good logical sense. Yeah. I mean that the like downside is then you're like hunting through two or more different bags to like find whatever you're looking for, which like. you're on site though, you could just switch everything back You can for sure. And like, I know you hate packing cubes, but packing cubes can be useful here. Oh, to tell you. I got oh, I got some compression packing cubes. will follow up with a future travel tip tuesday I know. I'm excited and I bet our listeners also can't wait to hear all about that in a few weeks, but. I am terrified though because they're compression that they're going to lead me to pack more because then it's gonna squish it all down. We shall see. Danger, danger.
