Hello everyone and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast. It is the first travel tip Tuesday of 2026 and today, Meggan, I want to share a cautionary tale from one of the travel Facebook groups I am in. All right, I'm set. All right, so I personally started booking refundable tickets, hotel rooms, et cetera. After we had to cancel our 2020 Mediterranean trip, we did actually just book refundable airfare to Copenhagen, which I've never done before, but it was so far out and so many things can happen. Uh, I like the peace of mind. It does cost more, but here we are. So onto the story. Someone posted in a travel Facebook group that they had booked a refundable train ticket. Because they thought my plans might change. Uh, they got their ticket via email and then they downloaded that to their phone. Then they later changed their travel plans and decided to cancel the train tickets. However, they could not cancel it because they had already downloaded the PDF of the tickets. Yes, it did state in the confirmation email, but she posted a screenshot of the email and like the button that says download tickets is like at the top and then lower down in the email. It does say like, if you download these, they're non-refundable. So I can totally see how that would happen. Like I could see myself doing that and not thinking about it. So I think obviously this doesn't apply to like all situations, not all tickets are like this, but it is a reminder that we need to be really careful and read the terms and conditions and the email before we book and before we download anything. So, Meggan, had you heard of this before? No. And now I'm gonna have nightmares. Literal, literal nightmares. It's like a new fear unlocked, a new travel fear. Like I, I hadn't, and people get excited. I can't, I can't imagine, you know, you get the email and like, you're just sort of s skimming it, which if you've just booked something, you usually just skim it to make sure the main details are are correct. But reading that kind of fine print is, is obviously very important because that is unfortunate, Yeah. I hope that this person wasn't out like a ton of money, but like who knows? And yeah, it's just a really important reminder. That we all just need to be a little bit careful because obviously you want your money back if you're gonna cancel your ticket. Yeah. All right, so that is all for this week's travel tip Tuesday. A really, really short one. Just read, read everything, I guess is the, is the tip. We hope this helped you.
