Hey everyone, and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast. Today, Meggan, I want to share how I saved $533 on my hotel stay in Toronto back in November. Please do share your ways. Yes, yes. All right. So I mentioned in, the Christmas in Toronto episode that we splurged a bit and we stayed at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, which was a hundred percent worth it. But when I originally booked the room back in August, the rate was around $530 per night for a total of $1,310.95 for two nights, which included the tax and the fees. So like, that's pretty pricey. And I was like, okay, it's worth it. Like it's gonna be fine. I had booked a king room, which was refundable up until one day prior to arrival, and from August to November I just basically forgot about it, like put it out of my mind. So then four days before we were headed to Toronto, I went on the Fairmount website to check the rates again. I don't know why I did this. I've never done this before that I was just guided to the website and to my surprise. I could book a queen room for$322 per night, which totaled$778.08 for the two nights. Which definitely wasn't available before'cause I would've booked that, right? So yes, we did downgrade from a king to a queen. We, not a big deal to me, like we sleep on a queen bed at home, uh, and we saved $532 and 87 cents. So because my, my original, , reservation was, uh, refundable cancelable until the day before, I just canceled the original reservation and rebooked the queen room at a lower rate. I thought about calling to do this, uh, but I was lazy and I didn't want to call. Who wants to talk on the phone. I know. I was like, oh, how long will it take me to get through this? I don't wanna do this anyway. Will this work every time? Absolutely not. We were traveling an off season. We were in Toronto in November. It's likely that the rooms just weren't booked, and so they were being offered at a lower rate. But it's worth checking. I mean, a search that took me less than a minute saved me over $500. So. As soon as Jenn told me she reached out and she's like, oh my goodness, I saved this. I'm like, well, this is a travel tip Tuesday if I have ever seen one. Wild. So, uh, obviously you've never done this before. Do you think that you might try it in the future? I mean, sure, I'd like to save $500. I think that, I think it is one of those things that, like you said, it took you a minute Yeah. you can, if you're staying in a hotel proper and you and the rates, uh, you know, fluctuate, take the time and do it. So yes, I would definitely do that going forward, especially after this travel tip. Yeah. Yeah. So that is it. That's all I have for this week's travel tip Tuesday. If you are new here, welcome.
