Hey everyone, and welcome back to Travel Tip Tuesday with the Travel Mug Podcast. I am joined, as always, by lovely Jenn. How are you doing today? I'm pretty good. I'm heading off to Copenhagen. Actually, I think I'll be there maybe when this comes out or I'll just have come back, so very exciting times. That's awesome. I can't wait to hear all about it. Denmark is somewhere I definitely wanna go, so I'm very excited for you. Well, today is a bit of a quick hit, but I thought it was a very exciting travel announcement. Maybe not to everybody, but it might be a little Canadian niche, but also European as well. Other travelers could be coming through Canada. Um, so I did wanna mention that it was recently announced that WestJet airline has signed a codeshare agreement with Icelandair. So what… I know, I know. So what is a codeshare agreement, you might be asking. So essentially, a codeshare agreement is the result of an agreement between two carriers to sell seats on each other's flights with the aim to offer its customers a larger variety of destinations to choose from. So what does this mean essentially for WestJet and Icelandair? Well, anyone es- who books a ticket on WestJet to Europe and on to further destinations through Keflavik Airport in Reykjavik using Icelandair can now use them as a codeshare. So you check in for your WestJet flight, uh, for your European destination. Your bag is checked the whole way through to your final destination, even with your connection to Icelandair in Iceland. So it essentially means that it's like one big trip as compared to using it as two different airlines if you had to do that. So however, this doesn't only benefit Canadians traveling to Europe, it also benefits those flying from Europe to Canada on Icelandair because it opens up an entire network of options through WestJet flights once you are on Canadian soil. Like, everybody's happy. We love that Yeah, yeah. So like someone leaving Iceland, for example, I guess could fly Icelandair, uh, from, uh, Reykjavik, uh, to Toronto Halifax Halifax, whatever, take a WestJet flight to Calgary and be all on the same ticket and only have to check in once and not have to re-check your bags. It's yay. I know. Like, it just simplifies everything. So Canadians can fly beyond Iceland in Europe thanks to this, and then Europeans or whomever can now travel onward in Canada via Iceland Air and then onto WestJet. Like, it just sort of makes it seamless with a lot more options through carriers you might use all the time anyway Yeah, this is great I know. So we love options, we love getting places easier. Um, that is it for this week's Travel Tip Tuesday, just making you aware of these changes in case you want to explore Canada further, or if you're looking to explore Europe further as a Canadian or even an American that may come up through Canada and utilize WestJet. Let us know if you think this code-share agreement will be one you will take advantage of. I certainly hope to someday.
