What happens when old beliefs come knocking—literally?

In this episode of TNT SpiritWorks, we explore the impact of religious beliefs, free will, and spiritual growth through a personal story of a door-to-door visit. What begins as a simple interaction opens a deeper conversation about discernment, self-awareness, and trusting your own feelings.

We talk about how belief systems can influence us, how to respect others without losing yourself, and why true spiritual growth is an inside job—not something handed to you from the outside.

This episode offers a grounded, practical perspective on:

  •  How old beliefs resurface and what it means
  •  Trusting your intuition and emotional awareness
  •  Navigating religious conversations with clarity and respect
  •  Understanding free will on the spiritual path
  •  Living spirituality in a real, everyday way

Because spirituality isn’t about rejecting others’ beliefs…
it’s about recognizing what is true for you.

  • Trust your feelings as your guide in spiritual matters.
  • Respect others' beliefs and their spiritual journey.
  • Recognize the energy behind religious and spiritual expressions.
  • Use spiritual growth as a self-discovery process.
  • Balance optimism and realism in life and spirituality.

TNT SpiritWorks (00:01)
When old beliefs come back, they don't always come to guide you. They come to see if you are still the same. And that's what we're going to dive into this week. And enthusiastically spiritual, we're going to dive into old beliefs and how sometimes they come and knock in. You ready, Tom? I'm ready. Okay, well, okay, the situation is this week is yes, indeed, I got a knock at the door. And it's those knocks at the door. You're like, Who is that? So I was at home working and got the knock and I

just nonchalantly went up and opened the door and there stood two women. And as soon as I saw them, like, I have an idea what they're here for. So they went ahead and handed me a beautiful brochure and inviting me to the memorial of Jesus Christ, because it's Easter. ⁓ So that was last week. And it was interesting because when they said, you know, here, I'd to give you a pamphlet and like, and then they said, you know, it's for the memorial of Jesus Christ. And I like went, what?

I mean, like literally, it's so funny. I was kind of shocked and they looked at me like, ⁓ you know, cause I had this look on my face and I was kind of shocked. And I, know, it's been a while since I've, I've, I will a open the door because as a kid, I knew never opened the door. That was one of the, you know, the concept and beliefs around religious people that come knocking at my door. Don't answer it. Close the window, close the shades. mean, my mom, that's what we did as a kid. So

interesting that that came up and then it really took me down a little rabbit hole around what concepts and what beliefs do I have around people like that and situations. So let's first get your sensitivity and your insights Tom on people come and knock in at the door.

Well, the key words that come to me are free will. And what it feels like, know, there's people are given opportunity to do all kinds of things here on planet Earth. And those ⁓ folks that came to your door had opportunity to go look for other like minded people who could use, ⁓ you know, that opportunity to memorialize.

Jesus in the way that they understand, you know, what Jesus was all about. ⁓

Free will. What does free will mean to you? Well, to me, free will is the ability to do what I need to do and the ways I need to do it, which is exactly what they were about. And the thing it stimulated in me was to sit down and look at really where they're at energetically, which is the perfect place for their soul and what they're here to do. And also how I was brought up to

feel about people that came to the door and knocked around Jesus. So what do mean an emotion or your true feelings about people who came to the door? Well, a concept you had about it. Well, it was basically, know, an understanding that a we don't open the door to them and we don't want anything to do with them. And so, you know, as soon as I opened it, I had almost like a

⁓ not a reaction, but like a flood of like, ⁓ boy, I know where they're here for about. And it was interesting because, know, I, I like, you know, like I started, you know, ⁓ when people come to come to your, you know, old beliefs come up to you, they come to see, know, am I still the same person I used to be? And I'm not, I'm not at all. I'm very accepting to where people are and their beliefs and

We had that recently we went to Kansas City one evening we were out and walking back from a restaurant and there were how many people on the corners and a little girl who her little a little daughter handed us a little booklet about Jesus and and they were like all over the streets and it was quite interesting that you know ⁓ well there's a resurgence of religion right now for sure in the country so I'm sure that's probably part of the knocking at the doors again.

or maybe they already always have. Well, I think the main thing for me is to really go back into what do I feel about any of these ideas like, or the feeling of what the Christ spirit's about, you know, that my message to folks is, you know, they can be happy and free by just discerning what do they feel, you know, being aware of what you feel.

And the more that I do that, the more I kind of relax with where people are at. Where we start fighting is over the concepts we have, the interpretation of a feeling. So there's a feeling for me with the Christ spirit, there's a feeling of there's something more, there's that positive, creative, loving vibration. Love is a creative.

you know, feels great, right? It feels good. And it's something we can build with, you know, here on planet Earth. And when I just recognize that other souls are going through their learning experiences, and they've chosen certain situations and concepts to work through. So I never see the, ⁓ you know, it's not worthwhile to me to start fighting with somebody over there.

belief system or their concepts. mean, this is where religious wars come from. And more our message and my message is the message of spirit. You know, what spirit shared with me is one, allow people to be where they're at. ⁓ If there's a feeling of somebody wants to save you, you you might pick up on that feeling and want to save them. You know, there's folks that ⁓ feel like

⁓ You know, they should all be spiritual like we are, you know, they should all believe that I'm a soul and but really it's it's all about if a person doesn't evolve themselves, they won't evolve. So I want to piggyback on the saving vibration because I had that come up this week for myself. And so obviously it stems back to wanting to save people like like you're talking about religion. But I have a situation where I went to a holistic center.

and I had some testing done and came away, walked away with their recognizing some areas in my body that I'm going to work on getting better. And I did this a lot when I was with my old family and back when I was a massage therapist and I was so excited about things and excited about, you know, feeling spirit and the things I was doing and the energy work. And I wanted others to know and feel what I was feeling, which

And so when I went to the center, I thought of the people around me that I could share with to inspire, you know, like ⁓ and help help them get healthier. And now it's a positive thing. Right. But then I also related to the saving vibration because I thought back to and I had a feeling around this is how I worked with my previous family. And this is how a lot of times I turned them off because I was so intense with, you know, you got to change, you know, how

you know, you're not healthy and how can we change this? And so I, I don't know, I just really want to mention that because I know that that's, even though I was not raised religious in a family that had, you know, very much at all, we never went to church except when I was a little bitty kid. that vibration of speed of trying to save others is very prevalent in me. And if, know, if I focus on myself, you know, first, like saving myself from

you know, the stress, the ⁓ thoughts that I have that are impatient, the thoughts that might flow through that are not really loving thoughts, know, their reactions to things, those plastic feelings, you know, that we call emotions that we get programmed with. You know, I was watching that episode of that, you know, podcast, Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey.

and David Spade and they were interviewing Ringo, one of my heroes. And Ringo said, you know, I learned a long time ago that thoughts come in and just let them flow right out, you know. And I thought that was a great way of saying it that, you know, here he's Ringo Starr and he's a great drummer and, you know, a superstar in terms of, you know, entertainment, rock and roll and music really that...

you know, he still learning and growing like the rest of us, you know, like being aware of what thoughts are his and what thoughts to let go of. And there was a neuroscientist neurosurgeon actually, that I watched an interview of recently, where he was talking about how, ⁓ you know, many people in his profession think that it's just the brain that thinks these thoughts.

but he was pointing out that certain, know, like the brain does have thoughts that react to things, but that ⁓ really the soul, you know, the free will part of us is there that they can't explain. Even when you have like half a brain left, it was really interesting, you know, that in his experience, ⁓ which when I listened to it, it helped clarify for me like,

Oh, yeah. So what's my thought? What are the sort of thoughts that are going to emanate from my brain from my intellect? And what is what is the thoughts or the feelings that I have from my spiritual part from my energy part from my soul nature? Yeah, that's interesting about the feeling because after I, you know, closed the door and came in and recognized looked at the pamphlet a little bit and I I thought a couple things came to me is like, wow, you know, over 2000 years ago, this

person was on the planet, Jesus, and he died and they're still having memorials for him. there's still, mean, you know, Easter's today. And so like, it's, it's forever, right. But then I got, you know, there's a feeling behind the Christ consciousness that is so loving, so prevalent, so well, and it will always be here, just like, I mean, all the feelings will always be here.

And so tapping into that energy, because I have before, and I think I've shared on this podcast before that, you know, I've like when I was in the military and we had Sunday, Sunday services where we all went to the church because it was so loving and they were so we were saying and we it was just filled with joy. And so I really just kind of took a moment and just reveled and just kind of like went into that feeling that those women who came to the door have inside of them.

to share with others. It's beautiful. Yeah. Yeah, and you know, for me, what I'm about when I share enthusiastically spiritual is, you know, I'm here to identify like what's true for me. And the only way I can do that is really tune into my feelings. And there's many people that have developed, you know, belief systems.

which I see as just intellectual rules and regulations and certain thought processes, you know, and those are great. I wouldn't go around replacing those for people until they're ready. And I don't replace them for myself until I'm ready, until I have something else to move in there with. So for me, spiritual growth is kind of that self-discovery process, becoming more aware of the Christ within and moving it further out.

⁓ and you know, there's truth in all things. Not one thing has all the truth. And if you ever find yourself saying, ⁓ but this is the real truth. You know, that something's a little off, you know, so what's true for me is, ⁓ what's in my feelings. I, for me, it's all about at this stage of my life or this stage of my growth is let's make, ⁓

Christianity practical. Let's make that Christ consciousness a practical way of life. For me, praying without ceasing is tuning into the Spirit, the positive, 100 % positive Spirit. And of course, in the Catholic faith, they refer to it as the Holy Spirit. ⁓ So, no one's lost. Everybody's here on purpose. They all have a purpose. They all have a team of spiritual helpers to help them.

and many religions over time period, even the early Greeks talked about that we had a soul nature. So that didn't really come from ⁓ Christian thought, that came later, or that was earlier. And then Christian ⁓ thought, the early Christians kind of adopted a part of Greek philosophy. It's fascinating when I've done a lot of research or listened to a lot of podcasts and people who do ⁓

who look at the historicity of the Bible and what we know and when texts were chosen and who wrote them and how do we know they wrote them and did they really write them and did he really say this? And it's fascinating, but I have to say that often it just completes the feeling that I've always had. for me, that soul, that master Jesus, there was...

He brought in a new message, a message of love, or he brought in a reinforcing energy of that that existed before. He wasn't the first one to talk about that, but there certainly was an emphasis. And there's certainly something about, you know, that message of Jesus that, I mean, that's shaped Western culture. And for the last 2000 years, we've been riding that wave, you know, evolving through that

state of consciousness. Yeah, so I'd like to now take a little detour on but around the same focus on religion and the Bible is that I often get, you know, people commenting and asking me questions about things. It's so interesting. I think the most interesting part was when we used to go to the metaphysical fairs and gosh, the things they'll come up and ask you and it's and they're very, it's really interesting because they're like

can I ask you this? And then I'm like, yeah, sure. Because it's like, usually esoteric or really kind of strange, you know, questions. But but so I had someone that asked me questions every so often. And she asked me a question regarding the timeframe we're in right now. Basically stating that, you know, she's there, they have over a religious overtone in the family. And they were raised, you know, religion and she has

Therefore now kind of explored more of her soul's journey and opening up more to you know Who she really is as a soul and her husband still kind of has you know The the pretty strong religious beliefs and so they were speaking the other day and talking around He said, know, I think we're in the the time frame of revelations in the Bible, which is the last chapter and And so they had this question back and forth and kind of you know pondering is it you know, is that what we're in?

So I kind of wanted just to ask you, Tom, what's your perspective on, you know, the times, right? Because I mean, I know you've done more, you know, you've done more exploration of the Bible. I haven't. I think I've read the first couple pages and then I've, you know, dabbled here and there with different, you know, different ⁓ phrases and different parts of it, but I don't know much about it at all. Except I know the revelations is the end times. Yeah. So, ⁓ well,

You know, the message of Jesus was all about love and forgiveness. And most people would agree upon that, you know, that are Christian and loving your neighbor as yourself. Although that was an Old Testament ⁓ saying as well. So, ⁓ but Jesus kind of expanded it to even love your enemies, you know, from it appears, you know, from his message and

Really, revelations is just someone's dream and someone's impressions and then their interpretation to an extent of their impressions. you we love artists because they'll often ⁓ share their dreams with us. You know, they're sensitive and so they, like ⁓ musicians, know, they...

some of the lyrics, know, we go, we love that. That seems like a wonderful lyric, you know, because they're sharing their creativity, their dreams with us. And, you know, most of us in music, we...

we look at those lyrics from our perspective. say, I'm a visionary. So I always say, look, you know, it's like, see it from my perspective, whether it's Madonna or the Dave Clark five or the Beatles or whatever, and people get what they need out of it, you know? So, but usually there's something that resonates with us, the feeling that we relate to, there's something we relate to, or the best comedy is comedy that I relate to, you know, that's what cracks me up.

It's like, there's so much truth in that, you know, kind of a thing. So, you know, I just say, if someone's asking me, what do you believe about that? Well,

How do you feel about it? You know, because if I start thinking and thunking and trying to get all logical about somebody's dream, like even when I tried to describe dreams to you, boy, I this dream last night. It's hard to describe. mean, was dreams are so there's so many impressions and it's they don't. The meaning is often clear to me like, ⁓ that's what that's sharing with me.

but it's so weird how the pictures and the feelings present themselves, the impressions present themselves. So there you go. mean, I think that let your own soul, let your be your rudder, be your guide as you move through interpretations that, know, and see for me, I like to, you know, feel the commonality, you know, so those folks have knocked on the door.

you know, that's great that they're out there looking to share their love and share their positivity. And on the other hand, you know, if their motives are to save other people, they're going to find out eventually it doesn't, it won't work, you know, because we, we save ourselves, you know, we're, but ⁓ clearly if they're offering hope, I'm all for it. You know, if

If you're helping people with a structure, a belief structure that helps them feel more secure, and is generally a positive, loving, uplifting aspects to it, then I'm all for it. Yeah, I guess that's with revelations. I mean, like, again, I've not read it. But I know what it's about. It's about basically death, destruction, and the world is ending. And then whatever happens after that. But I guess it comes to me, it's the feeling behind

you whatever we're involved in, like, is it something positive for me to that's going to inspire me to keep living my life? That's you know, we always talk about that being practical with spirituality, because, you know, we all feel so much, we all pick up so many impressions, so many hunts, so much hunches from our guides. And, and so what does something feel like to you? Does it feel like, know, and is it inspiring your life? Like if I were to read revelations?

Is that going to inspire me to keep living a good life? And if it is more power to you. Yeah. But if it's not, you know, I'm really about finding things that are going to inspire me. And because there are so many people that are, you know, it's black and white and there's not many gray in the middle. Right. There's either people that are put this way. It's funny because their day at work.

I work in the back of the office, so there's no windows. So I go sometime in the center and I look out and I'm seeing, okay, you know, there's the sun or the not sun, whatever. So I come to the middle of the room and there was sunshine. was like, and it was a rainy day. And I was like, ⁓ look at the sunshine. There's gotta be a rainbow somewhere. And then one of my coworkers walked up and I just love him. says, and I'm sure there's black clouds somewhere around too.

And he goes, Teresa, you're an optimist and I'm a pessimist. I said, you know what it is, is that we're really like just balancing out everything. It's really about balance, right? Like in the gray area, but. So you're picking up that impression. so, you know, before you started sharing my guidance said, you know, some people like the carrot and some people like the stick in terms of motivating themselves. So, yes, you know, you can say that revelations in some ways is the big stick.

here, you better get your act together. You know, the end is coming, and you won't get into heaven and all that kind of thing. So somebody made sure, or probably a group of people made sure that that got in the Bible, because motivating people is ⁓ and I'm not saying this is the wrong thing to you know, some people need the carrot, you know, the incentive, the loving positive, and some people need the stick.

Some people need a good harsh sermon once in while to shape them up. And some people, but realize it's just a game. It's just a, well, I better take notice of that lackadaisical attitude I have around my not so positive thoughts. Let's get more, let's shape myself up. So there's all that that's going on on planet earth as well. I think my moral to the story is,

Trust yourself and your feelings and allow them to evolve and, you know, maintain the ones that work for you, the ideas that work for you, and let go of the ones that you start to find a positive replacement for, something that expands you. I found that it's through working with my guidance and trusting my feelings, you know, developing that part of myself is where

the solutions are for me. If I look outside myself, I may be able to take away something positive from someone else's idea, but it's always got to resonate with me as well. There has to be my feeling about it that will expand my consciousness. If I'm just always looking outside of myself that somebody's gonna tell me what the truth is, you're not gonna make it.

you know, but that's just a stage. You can explore that for lifetimes if you like to. There's nothing wrong with that. Eventually, the soul begins to expand in other ways. Yeah, and then there's a place for everything. Yeah, well said. Yeah. As long as we are respecting each other's rights, as long as there's that we maintain that live and let live attitude, you know, to the extent possible, you know, we're good. ⁓

That's how I see it. You know, for me, I want, I want the freedom for me. It's important to have the freedom to evolve. And, ⁓ I'll be here on planet earth, as long as that opportunity shows up, you know, because it's, ⁓ and it will, know, so that was interesting conversation around beliefs and seeing that when people come knocking at your door or someone's talking about the Bible or whatever it is,

Where are you at right now? Are you stimulated with it? Are you triggered with it? Are you relaxed with it? Are you accepting where people are their beliefs? And it's not and it feels different than it used to. And so that's a really good place to to, you know, relate to what what you're experiencing out there in the world. Yeah. My final word is ⁓ symbolism. You know, there's a lot of symbolism. There's a lot of messages there ⁓ and that and just keep that in mind.
