David Gibbon, born in Pittsburgh and raised in Garlandville, Mississippi, inherited his father's athletic prowess and competitiveness. His father, who once played professional basketball and baseball and even pitched in the 1960 World Series, inspired David's love for sports. Despite starting as a late bloomer, David excelled in baseball and briefly tried football. He pursued a degree in chemistry and education, followed by a master's degree in exercise physiology from Utah State University and a law degree from Ole Miss.

During law school, David took up running 5Ks to cope with stress. In his 30s, he ventured into sprinting and swimming, and he even conquered a marathon. At 40, David became a father of 2 boys, spurring him to prioritize fitness. In Eugene, Oregon, he explored sprinting, faced injuries, and embraced parenting. David resumed track at 48, achieving national and world titles in sprint events and breaking records at the 2023 USATF Outdoor National Championships. Despite injuries, David is determined to constantly surpass his fitness goals and enjoys the added social and mental health benefits.
