Episode 51. The Taylor Sheridan Experience: Those Who Wish Me Dead

Season 2 Episode 20

We close out our theme of Taylor Sheridan movies with his most recent film (which he wrote and directed) and just came out in theaters (remember those?) and HBO Max: Those Who Wish Me Dead. It's about smokejumpers and assassins and survivalists and Angelina Jolie and a kid, so that's nice.

But before we jump into that bonfire of a discussion, we have to talk about what we watched this week.

Goodman, after listening to the Blank Check episode on Robert Zemekis' Flight, he had the itch to watch Flight, the Denzel alcoholic pilot with some amazing flying skills movie written by actor turned screenwriter, John Gatins; and the 2020 Gerard Butler apocalyptic survival tale, Greenland, also starring Morena Baccarin.

Dre got in on the Mare of Easttown craze, which is taking over the internet (through episode 5), starring Kate Winslet, Jean Smart, Guy Pearce, Julianne Nicholson, Evan Peters and Angourie Rice; and The Woman in the Window, the long-delayed Joe Wright movie starring Amy Adams, Julianne Moore and Gary Oldman, written by Tracy Letts.

Then we head to the Montana wilderness to talk about Mr. Sheridan's somewhat updated take on Cliffhanger (but not), and the plot, the cast, the quotes and the trivia. We even get in a little discussion about another upcoming HBO Max movie, No Sudden Move, directed by Steven Soderbergh.

With The Taylor Sheridan Experience done and dusted (sorry, we didn't get into Yellowstone), it's also time to announce our new theme: Three films of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, the 2-time Academy Award winning screenwriter and Booker prize-winning novelist, and frequent Merchant Ivory Productions collaborator:

So join us for A Room With a View next week (it's on HBO Max) and don't forget to bring your English niceties with you.
