#40: Masculinity, Mess, and Missed Exits
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Jay and AJ catch up on chaotic nights out, surprise run-ins with RuPaul’s Drag Race girls, and holiday plans that involve more chosen family than blood relatives. Jay recaps a soul-filling trip home, frat-boy mattress life, and a truly unhinged Lyft ride that turns into a full role reversal.
Things pivot into Housewives territory, with strong opinions on Salt Lake City, Meredith Marks, and the ongoing art of stirring the pot. The episode wraps with a deep dive into Heated Rivalry, unpacking masculinity, obsession, and why rivalry gives men permission to fixate on each other, all while admitting the show is horny as hell. Equal parts chaos, comfort, and cultural commentary.
Hello, hello, hello, and welcome back to Dose of Delusion. It is me, your host, yours truly Jay, and I am blessed with the presence, as per usual, of the glorious, the wonderful, the magnificent AJ the Silver Fox. AJ, how are you? Tell us everything.
SPEAKER_01Hi, I am doing well. I am I I'm good. I'm good.
SPEAKER_03I love to hear that. Um no, really, really. Seems like you've had quite the uh, I think we were texting earlier and you had quite the chaotic day and the chaotic last couple of hours. Everything calm down now?
RuPaul Girls Crash The Party
SPEAKER_01Everything's fine. Everything's everything's always gonna be good. You know what I mean? It's uh um it I did uh, you know, I went out last night. Um, tell me about that.
SPEAKER_03What did you do?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so Warehouse Wednesday with uh DJ Vitamin A. It was their December event. So um went supported um uh while we were there. Um it was it was cool vibes, everyone's having a great, amazing time. Um I'm hanging out with um Cassandra, who one of the real estate dolls. Um so yeah. We love them. We love them. Um, so you know, we're and Chrissy Waters, of course. Um, we were all just hanging out and um chit-chatting, and then all of a sudden um Chrissy's like on her phone, and I'm like, girl, like get off your phone, pay attention, you know what I mean, whatever. And she's like, um the show the the holiday show um for the RuPaul girls ended, so they're gonna come over here because the peg is dead. So I was hanging out with all of them. All of them. Tell me, tell me, tell me who. Um the Lexi, Lexi Love, um uh Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Heights.
SPEAKER_03Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Heights. No, you're Brooklyn Heights. Okay, I'm sorry, I gotta cut you off. I I I love like the Canadian Brooklyn Heights, correct? Yes, yes, that's okay. First of all, obsessed with her. She's beautiful, she's gorgeous, but him, like out of drag, so fucking handsome. Oh so handsome, obsessed.
SPEAKER_01Yes, oh my god, so so good looking. Um, and um the the the toots or susie toots or whatever she's there. So she was there too. Um, and um there was a couple more, a couple more. Oh, um, what's a really nice one with the big smile and she's kind of like old-timey like vibes, but like she's um she she's like I think she won like the Sweet Award or whatever her season. I can't who are you talking about? I don't know. Oh my god, I'm terrible. Um anywho, so it was really, really cool. It was really fun listening to um all the music, and like um it got kind of like hard techno-y at some point. And um, so yeah, they all went in, took some pictures of people, and then um all of a sudden it just kind of like and um and then and then we all left for the evening. So it was it was uh it was a fun time.
Travel Back Home And Life Reset
SPEAKER_03Okay, wow. Um a little I'm a little bit jealous of that, but that's super cute, super fun. Yeah, um, no, love that view. I didn't do much last night. Actually, I just got back from my out of town trip. I got back late. What is today? Today's today's, yeah, whatever day it is. Uh two nights ago. I got back pretty late, had a long day of traveling, no delays or anything, just you know, uh two long flights from here back back home. It was a bit of a home visit and a work trip at the same time, but I had a really good time. I was there for about five days, got to spend a lot of time with the family, got to spend a lot of time at my home office. So that was really, really fun. But I just got back out of town just a couple nights ago, so I'm still kind of like one recovering from the jet lag. It's been chaotic, it's been rough, and I'm still trying to unpack.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, I mean, but you mean like not just unpack your suitcases, you mean unpack because of your move, right?
SPEAKER_03Well, no, I mean I am still beyond the lights and beyond the cameras. I am still looking at a few unfinished boxes. Listen, I have no desires. And here's here's the thing. I like to keep my home, you know, a very neat and clean appearance. You uh when we lived in the same city, I always kept it decently like tidy. I always say, like, at first glance, it's gonna look clean, but don't look again. Um, keep it tidy. However, it's like an all or nothing. So either the everything's tidy or it's a disaster. And because I'm still waiting on my brand new bed to be delivered, and I'm doing frat boy status right now with a mattress on the floor. Yeah, it's uh it's it's it's it's the I'm in the nothing part of the all or nothing. So I'm just living like a little mess and I'm okay with it. But once that bed shows up on tomorrow, um I'm gonna get this room in the shape.
SPEAKER_01So so what I've heard about mattresses on the floor is um you're gonna get D down really good and hard. Stop. I don't know. That's just I mean, I've seen I've seen memes. That's all I'm saying. But so you're gonna go from that to like prissy bottom once the bet arrives tomorrow.
SPEAKER_03The frame is all we're saying. I'm going from toxic top to messy bottom.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I love it. That's very you, very own brand.
SPEAKER_03No, but um, no, it's been good. And and I had a lot of fun on my work trip too. I got to see a lot of people that hadn't seen in a long time. Much needed right for a right before the holiday, so I'm pretty happy about that. Where are you going for the holidays? What are you doing?
Holidays, Family Calls, And Staying Local
SPEAKER_01I um um I'm not doing anything. I'm gonna stay local, um, just like I did for Thanksgiving. Um, because I was I'm like the new kid in the office. So I let the tenured people pick their days off first. I wasn't gonna be like a brat about it. Um, but come next year, they better watch fucking out because I'm gonna put mine in immediately. So, like, I mean, don't get me wrong. Like, I have um for for Thanksgiving, for Christmas, and for New Year's, they're all on Thursdays. So I took the Friday off after each holiday. So I'm gonna be off Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I could have gone down, but I'm not gonna be traveling the Christmas Eve. Like I work until three, and then what am I gonna do? Like drive all like four hours. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Absolutely not. So unfortunately, I will be I will not be seeing my family again. Um, I had a long talk with uh my sister, and um, you know, I I'm the worst at texting and calling. I mean, you know the I'm I'm the worst. We only text like business at this point, you know what I mean? If you're not in this city, we ain't hanging out because we're gonna hang out in person, you know what I mean? So you're not gonna hear from me or anything. I'm just that person. So, so we we were on the phone for like an hour and a half, and um like I was like alluding to try and like hang up, but like the conversation just longer and longer, and and but it was a it was a great conversation, good catch up. And um, you know, she she you know asked if I was gonna go down, and you know, I told her the whole sitch, like I didn't get to ask for the days off that I needed, so um, you know, unfortunately, not this year. So, you know, she's like, oh well, you know, Miss, you know, it's a little sad. So I got a card from her, um, some really, really cute words on it, and um um, and uh she she she something from Amazon came in and um she was like just thought we could open a little something on Christmas. So um I'm gonna cry. It was so sweet. Um, but no, so I'm gonna say local. I'll probably go over to um hang out with Jorge and Chris. They invited me um for um like a Christmas Eve, like I'll I'll hang out with them during the day or whatever, and and uh or after work or in the evening um and Christmas Day probably as well um with the kids.
SPEAKER_03So no, I love that. No, you know, and I'm glad the family's understanding. You know, I this is my second year in a row now where I decided to go home in the in mid-December and set up for the holiday. And it kind of works out perfectly. Again, my my home office is there, and I need to give them some FaceTime. And my my where I work at right now is very, what's the word I'm looking for, very generous with their time and my my work travels allow me on their dime to go visit my home office. So I do two birds with one stone to my mother, like, hey, you know, there's a lot of time that everyone's taking off during the holidays. If I'm able to stay for the holidays, I can have an extended trip right now in the middle of the month. And so I've been doing that, and it's been really nice. We get the whole family together. My dad's birthday is on the same weekend, so we always celebrate that, and it just all works out very, very well. So, like I said, I've been doing it now my second year in a row, and I plan to keep up the tradition for as long as I'm out here on the East Coast, but I'm loving it. Now, my trip home was a lot of fun though.
SPEAKER_01Now, tell me about that. Did you go out? Did you do like what did you?
A 10-Minute Commute Becomes 44
SPEAKER_03Okay. When I say a lot of fun, I guess I should actually lead into more of something was a little uneventful, but it but it was okay, you know. I mean, nothing crazy happened. I mean, I got I didn't get any any fights with any Uber drivers. I mean, I do have an update about that. No, I do have a a wild Uber driver update that I want to get into, so please don't let me forget. But no, you know, I went to go, my best friend's daughter was graduating with her master's, which we always laugh at because we used to make so much fun about how like ditzy she is. Um, but anyway, she got her master's. We watched that. The most, you know, the highlight of that time was sitting and watching the other graduates, and so the guy was like vaping and then he was taking phone calls, like a graduate sitting on the floor waiting for his name to be called, was vaping and taking phone calls. Security had to come and get him, or had to come and tell him to stop. And then, of course, I'm recording the whole thing. I'm not even recording my friend's daughter, like I missed all of that. I'm just recording him, and he was so entertaining. And then at the end of the graduation, my friend was like taking pictures with him, and this guy was just so zooted and out of his mind. You know, she's like, Can I have a picture with you? And he's like, Yeah, for sure. All right. And it was that was the most entertaining part of the trip. Um, no, and then after that, like I said, I spent a lot of time with my mother. We did a lot of holiday shopping. I made her spoil me as per usual. And um uh it was it it was a much needed, you know, chicken soup for my soul. I needed it. I I came back feeling, you know, full uh emotionally, and uh I'm ready to go back and you know finish off this year, this calendar year with a little bit of a bang, hopefully.
SPEAKER_01Nice. That sounds really awesome. I um, you know that whatever it is, whether it's family time or whatever, like for me, it might be um sitting on a beach with my feet in the sand, listening to the ocean. Like some kind of chicken soup for the soul um is is very necessary and um needed for everyone. So I'm glad that you got to do that and experience that. Um, however, what wasn't there like two books or three books? How many chicken soup for the souls were there? You act like I read.
The Lyft Story Goes Off The Rails
SPEAKER_03Well, actually, no, you know what's funny is I talked about this recently with one of my friends, and because I had told her about chicken soup for the soul, she had never heard of it, and I was like, oh my god, you know, you're I'm really dating myself. And I said, you know, the whole chicken soup was, I mean, I don't know what the metaphor was, but I kind of explained to her saying, you know, it was a self big self-help movement where it was chicken soup for the soul, chicken soup for the teenage soul, chicken soup for the woman soul, chicken soup for the divorce soul. And I'm like, and there was a chicken soup for any type of part in your life you were going through that you could find a chicken soup for. I never once read one, ever, but I just knew that they were a very, very popular movement and kind of understand what they're actually about.
SPEAKER_01I um I did. I had I read. I read it.
SPEAKER_03So you show me your collection. I'm like, imagine.
SPEAKER_01Um no, no, no. So I I did go through a hard time. Um, I believe it was um junior high, high school era where I needed that book and it really did help a lot. So um I would recommend to any listener, maybe not the, you know, the first one. I don't know. Just pick one for whatever life moment that you need. It is necessary and it really does help. But the reason why I was asking that if there was a part two is because you're gonna get another helping of chicken soup when you finally come to fucking San Antonio and you hang out with me. Girl, I'm going with you there real fucking soon. Trust. I can't wait.
SPEAKER_03And that's my chicken soup that I need. Oh, we're gonna have so much chicken soup together. Maybe we won't steal it from Lubius this time.
SPEAKER_01But anyway. Oh my god, I cannot believe you. Listen, she told me to go. I don't know. I couldn't, anyways. So what what happened with the Uber lips?
Housewives: Beverly Hills And SLC
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. Listener, I'm telling you, I'm telling you. Okay, so this was the universe, you know, giving me still a crazy, awkward, like lift situation, but with a very, very nice driver. So I get picked up from work the other day. Now I moved recently, so work is only a 10-minute drive from the office with traffic, and I I I love that so much. So this Uber driver picks me up in the right spot, right? And I get in, and then she's like just very nice, and I have my headphones in, and usually it bothers me when I have my headphones and they keep talking to me, but I could tell she was being very nice. Now, something that a lot of my Uber drivers have done in the past, or Lyft drivers, I primarily exclusively do lift, is they will ask me where to go, and I have to look at them dead in the eye and say, Listen, I have no idea unless I pull out maps myself, I do not know how to get where I'm going. Like I don't drive in this city, all right? And I was watching her and she she did that. She looked in the backseat and she goes, Is this the right turn? And I said, I'm so sorry, I don't know. And she's like, Okay, and she keeps driving. So now I'm paying attention. And she's not doing, you know how sometimes, listener out there, AJ, when you are driving and you're you're you have two highways that are close together or two exits that are very similar, and you're and you're not sure which GPS is telling you which lane to pick, and you can get off on the wrong exit. Okay, Homegirl is on a straight road, thick blue line going forward, and she does a hard right and then says, Is this it? And I'm like, No, absolutely not. And I was already building up to to lose my cool. And she's like, I'm I'm so sorry. I'm very, very sorry. And I was like, it's okay, it's fine. And she goes, You don't know where you're going, and I'm like, no. I'm like, she goes, why not? And I was like, I don't drive. And she goes, You should drive. You're such a handsome young man. And I was like, go on, and no, and I was like, no, I was like, I used to drive back in Texas, but when I moved here, I just don't drive anymore, yada, yada, yada. And then she's like, and I'm not, I'm not gonna try to make, I'm not gonna try to mimic her accent because that will get canceled, but you know, she had a she had a non-American accent, and then she goes, Well, I've only been here in the States for one year and I'm already driving, and I want to be like, I can tell it's only been one year. Then as she's continually talking on and making every wrong turn, she tells me, Yes, I used to work in home health, um, but I quit last week. This is my first week on the app. I'm like her 10th passenger. So I'm like, okay, seriously, you have no idea where you're going either. AJ, now I do get anxiety, uh, mainly because of a couple of car accidents and whatnot, which is why I don't like to drive, even when I am driving, unless I'm in a familiar place. Unfamiliar place, I get a lot of anxiety. At this point, the way we were going, getting on and off the freeway, she wasn't nowhere she was going. My anxiety was building. So now I'm in a backseat, having the same anxiety that I have if I was driving in an unfamiliar, unfamiliar city, kind of panicking. And I'm watching her make every wrong turn. She would get off the freeway, get this listener, get off the freeway, go into a roundabout, get off on the wrong part of a roundabout, end up back on a freeway. She did that two times in a row. The third time I saw her get in the roundabout and make and we get to the roundabout and she hits a stoplight, and I just said, Can I drive? And then she goes, Okay. I said, I can see my building, I can get us there. We got out of the car, I get into her car, the Lyft driver, the Lyft driver's vehicle, and I drive myself the remaining six blocks home. Get out, and then I said, I'm gonna give you five stars. And I was like, and I was like, but she was like the whole time, she was like, I'm so sorry, I'm so so sorry. And I'm like, don't worry, honey, we're gonna get home, get there. And I was like, you be safe, you have a great holiday. And I got you know what? You know what? I said, that was the universe telling me to chill the fuck out and to remind me that sometimes these drivers maybe have it harder than I have it, and to not lose my cool on them ever again, which I'm a little ashamed of, but I realized maybe, maybe just just to remember what other people's perspectives. And um, I guess you could say it overcame my fear of driving in this city.
SPEAKER_01That is why old. I cannot believe that.
SPEAKER_03It was a 44-minute drive home, which should have been eight, nine minutes tops.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and you know, so how how long was the commute prior, like before you moved?
SPEAKER_03Before I moved, it was about a 50-minute drive. Five or one five five zero. So if I took public transit, it was about an hour, right? Which is you know, a couple of subway, a couple of stops, you know, exchanges, and then I'm I'm there. And if I was feeling lazy and just got on an Uber, it was still a 50-minute drive, 5-0.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_03So this cut my commute down dramatically where I'm at right now. But yeah, so that lift driver really put things, uh, that lift driver and this lift driver you're looking at really put things into perspective and just mainly made me realize relax. Some people may not be as, you know, maybe going through different things you're not familiar with.
SPEAKER_01So poor thing.
SPEAKER_03No, but I gave her and myself five stars. So I hope she returned a favor. And imagine she rates me like one star.
SPEAKER_01Took over my vehicle and he tried to kidnap me. I thought I was being wrong. Oh no.
SPEAKER_03I bet that would be that's crazy. Oh god, it was so much fun. But you know, okay, so that was that. That was how I started my trip. That was the last day before I um went out of town. On the way back into town, um on coming back, I ended up watching. First of all, are you caught up on housewives?
SPEAKER_01Um I believe so.
SPEAKER_03I think so. I'm gonna I'm gonna say a couple things here that you know we're gonna disagree. First of all, I just finished episode two of Beverly Hills. I don't, I don't, I think they're still getting into the flow of things. They are introducing another housewife. They haven't mentioned it yet. I'm not sure if she's gonna be a friend of, I think so. But she lives in Kyle's house that she had in Bel Air, if I if I recall correctly. That was the one that Sutton used to live in or stayed in for a short amount of time.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03That she almost caught on fire's house in Bel Air. Excuse me?
SPEAKER_01That she almost caught on fire or something.
SPEAKER_03Wasn't uh I I hope I'm getting my facts right. But now the new tenant is uh allegedly a friend of Sutton, and um she's on the show and she's like the youngest one. She was born in 75, 85, I'm sorry. She's born in 85, and she's like the youngest one of the show, and I think they're bringing her on as a as a friend of for now. But uh other than that, the the show is still getting its its groove, especially with the one and a half new cast members. Nothing to write home about. Um, what's her name? How to break down in front of everybody, Dorite about her separation, but what's new?
SPEAKER_02Salt Lake City. Did you catch up on that?
unknownMaybe.
SPEAKER_02I don't know what was the most real.
SPEAKER_03So I want to talk about Salt Lake City, but your name is. No, talk about it. I what I hate the most about it is your favorite housewife. And for your sake, I hope she becomes your friend. She will be my friend. Meredith, Meredith just she just she really had a woe is me episode. She really catastrophized something is she really played the emotional victim. Um, and it was rough. But I also, AJ and listener, I want you to know that I, you know, I will give with two hands. I don't know if that's the right phrase, but Angie Kay being my favorite housewife on that franchise also pissed me off this episode. I thought she had some really bad and immature behavior, although rooted, I think rooted with the right message, delivery was immature, terrible, bad. And quite frankly, I was a little embarrassed by her behavior. Anyways.
Mary, Jen, And Reunion Chaos
SPEAKER_01No, I mean, I just was going to um I think they need to drop it. Meredith is doing the right thing. She already apologized. They're dragging it out. Like, leave her alone. It is, they're mean girls. I'm sorry, but the the fat bitch who lost all the weight, and the the the ditzy blonde who's now a redhead, or I can't even remember. She's just like, they're she's a she likes to stir the pot. And coming from someone who's very good at stirring the pot, I see one and she's definitely one. I I'm sick of them. They need to cut their shit and leave her alone. Like she's just, she's just like trying to like live her best life and DJ, you know what I mean? Like, leave her alone.
SPEAKER_03I have two things to say. First of all, I've said it once and I've said it once and I'll say it again. AJ the silver fox, he's no cook, but he can sure stir a pot. Second thing is, rumor has it, the back pages are talking that Meredith Marks is leaving the show. Right. It has yet to be confirmed. We both know how I feel about that.
SPEAKER_01So well, no, I mean that that's fine, but I I guarantee that um I what I heard was she was gonna be demoted to a friend of, and she said, Well, absolutely not, I'm leaving. And I also saw somewhere, it was a screenshot of um uh her Instagram no longer says like housewife or whatever. So I did see that, and it's probably in the works, or maybe she's being dramatic and holding out, and she's gonna end up getting paid more than them because she's um, you know, like I think I think she's good for the show. And I think that um those those idiots are just fucking around with the wrong bitch and they're they're finding out.
SPEAKER_03Who ha who goes first of your choice? Lisa Barlow or Meredith Marks?
SPEAKER_01Um I I think um I think Lisa Barlow before Meredith. I can get on my parts.
SPEAKER_03Um also they play off of each other, and I think when they're not yeah, when they're not with each other, I find them way more tolerable.
SPEAKER_01Okay. You know, that that is very fair. I do like that they kind of like they like definitely have each other's back. And I think it's because of what has happened in prior seasons. It's um uh it's I think they they really figured it out. Like, hey, we're friends, we're like if they start talking shit and we start listening to what the girls are trying to do, it's gonna separate them. And I think that's what those whores are trying to do, and they need to quit their shit. Um, what I do want to say or bring up, which is slightly related, but not really. Um, did I send you that clip from I think it was like season one with Mary Cosby and um Jen Shaw at the I totally forgot about that scene at um at that she the restaurant that she always goes to for her like lunches. Do you remember? Do you know what I'm talking about?
SPEAKER_03Don't recall. Tell me, tell me everything.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so um she's like they're they're they're having some words or something like that. And I think Jen is still upset because um she said it smells like hospital, and she was like, Mary said it smells like hospital. It was bringing back so many memories. I was like, yes, and she was like, My aunt was amputated, and she's like, Well, she at 80, both legs, she's probably has a terrible diet. She needs to eat better. Like, she's like not holding back, and I love and she was like with her eyes and like doing that, and Jen's like, Don't open your eyes at me like that. And she's like, Like, what? What are you gonna do, little girl? Like, like, you know what I mean? Like, it was just Mary Cosby. When she left, it was kind of like boring, to be quite honest.
Heated Rivalry: Sex, Sport, Subtext
SPEAKER_03So I'm glad she's you know, I have to say, uh my heart breaks every time some people, and by some people I mean you, constantly remind me that Andy has said that Jen Shaw will not be back. I had so much hope in my heart that she was gonna come back and that would make for great ratings. And all of the the chatter on the Reddit threads and blogs and everything was like, well, no, you know, all the crimes, blah, blah, blah. Then some people are like, well, what about, you know, Erica, Erica from from Beverly Hills? And yeah, she wasn't convicted, right? But nonetheless, you know, all accused of the same thing. Then you have, you know, Teresa Gudeis or Gudichay or whatever her name is from Jersey, who actually did serve time, and then she got back on the show. So I just assumed the same would happen with with Jen, but apparently there must be some things behind the scenes because and Andy keeps saying no.
SPEAKER_01Uh breaking over. And so here's the thing also, like seeing those like clips from back then when she was on, she was very aggressive and very angry, and like I think it was like too ghetto much. Like, I don't think the girls would want to film with because there was always like every fucking episode when she was on, she was screaming and threatening to like you know, throw drinks or glasses on people, and uh it was like she wanted to fight, and that was that's just not the housewife brand um to do that, unless it's at the reunion, and then you're Portia and you're gonna drag that other bitch, then that's acceptable like that. But you know what I mean? Like that's that's the only time. Like um Gentile was was too she was too wild and too crazy, and I think that that's also something. And didn't so did she give that fat bitch the black eye? I don't remember.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I forgot all about that. Right? Yeah, first of all, let's use her name.
SPEAKER_01I know, it's because I really I just it just Heather. Heather is who I'm talking about. It just hit me right now. It just like I that was my bad, my bad. I know. I the first time was out of anger. This time was because it really did slip my mind who I was talking about. And so I just went with it. But no, yes, I apologize. I'm not fat shaming, she's super skinny, she looks amazing. Um, she does not look like Linda Evangelista, um, but um no, she doesn't. She doesn't. She with all that plastic surgery she needs to have anyway, anyways. So um whatever. I'm just really mad at her because she's like attacking my girl and she just needs to shut up already about it. Like, give it up. Is so this last episode that I'm gonna catch up this evening when we're done here, um, did she bring it up again? Is she still talking about it?
SPEAKER_03No, no one was attacking Meredith. No one was attacking Meredith, it was completely unrelated. They were having a conversation. She, you know what, don't quote me on that.
SPEAKER_01Because okay, the last episode I remember seeing was they were at the dinner in Greece, right? In Santorini. And I was at that restaurant too when I went several years ago, so PS, by the way. Um, I had that same seat, but um no, so uh you got up from the dinner and left. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01What?
SPEAKER_03And she comes back the next day, they're going on a they're going on a little tour, she's in a bad mood, she takes a phone call from somebody. She felt like she was rushed off that phone call, and she made the entire, well, production made the entire rest of the episode uh made Meredith, you know, drag on how she was pissed off biting that phone call and just a big woe was me, I'm sad, everyone's sad, you know, just really bringing down the mood. You're gonna have to watch it. Okay, you're gonna have to watch it, you're gonna have to enjoy that fashion, but how they're gay. But speaking of gay, I watched a show that I think you had brought to my attention and I binged it.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_03Heated rivalry, rivalry.
Masculinity, Obsession, And Hidden Messages
SPEAKER_01I think um, how many episodes are there?
SPEAKER_03There's four. The fifth one comes out on Friday.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So I'm one episode behind. I I mean, listeners, the gays only. Um go watch it. Go watch it. It is amazing. The actors are gr very good looking. Um did you start following them on uh on Instagram or anything?
SPEAKER_03I actually haven't followed any of the social medias. I haven't even looked them, I haven't even looked them up to see who they are. I have no idea if any of them playing any other show. Not a clue. The only one that I think I might know is the well, how how behind are you?
SPEAKER_01So I'm pretty behind. No, just one episode, just one episode, but I know who you're gonna bring up. You're talking about um the guy who was on Shits Creek, who's one of the the players with uh what's his name, the the Asian player, right? The Osian? Actually, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Are you talking about Hunter? I don't remember his name. No, I actually don't actually don't know. I was gonna bring up the guy who works at the uh the smoothie shop.
SPEAKER_01Oh he's the only one who the one scenes the one that's that's flirting with that guy. It's all the previews to it. So that actor is Sebastian Rain from Shits Creek. He went on one episode and he's he's Il David's ex. And he went to go take pictures of Moira. That's him.
SPEAKER_03Okay, that's right. That is him. That episode actually, I don't know if we're gonna want to talk about it. It hits way too close to home. Like I was really emotional watching that episode, and I was actually really nervous that the rest of the season was gonna be like that. So I was really happy that when it ended, that was episode three, just called Hunter, and that when it ended, it went right back to the other previous storyline between those two, thank God, because I was like in tears on the plane. Oh my god, speaking of being on the plane watching the show, so I'm watching the show on the plane, and I am being a little bit embarrassed because of how much listener, if you haven't seen it, there's a lot of sex on this show and and gay sex at that, and they show everything but the penis. Literally everything but I think I've even seen balls, everything but the penis. So I'm on the plane and I'm watching this, and so I'm trying to kind of cover it so that people don't see it. Now, don't give, I looked around to make sure there was no young children, but then I realized I'm covering the phone so that people can't really see it. But if somebody does get a glimpse, they're gonna see me covering the phone and they're going to assume that I'm watching porn. So then I was like, well, no, I want you to see my phone. And it was just a big, I was in this big paradox of like, hide the phone, don't hide the phone, hide the phone, don't hide the phone. But yes, I I watched all four, all four episodes while on the plane. I cried during episode three. It hit way too close to home. I'm not trying to be funny, I'm not sure I want to talk about it. But episodes one, two, and four about that storyline. What it what what are your thoughts? Do you have any like thoughts on like okay, let's be real. That show has nothing to do with hockey. Okay.
SPEAKER_01I um I I mean there's hockey in it.
SPEAKER_03No, I mean, okay, all of the all of the of the hot sex aside, like heated rivalry is not about hockey. It is about fear, it's about m masculinity, it is about, you know, it is about how men are raised to weaponize their ambition instead of their like emotional intelligence. And that's what I mean. Like, it's not about hockey at all. Hockey is just the forefront.
SPEAKER_01Then yes, yes. So I okay, I then that means I've only seen two episodes. Um as of now, and but I will be watching. Um it okay, so so one, just just to talk about the actors again. They're they're two very good looking guys. Um, and I wanted to bring this up before we got into that, but the Russian isn't Russian. Like he has, he's like a California boy. No accent.
SPEAKER_03Very good accent.
SPEAKER_01Very right. So just just wanted to let me know because you think that.
SPEAKER_03What is a real what is a real Russian thing?
Watch Lists, Group Viewing, And Plans
SPEAKER_01Okay, I know exactly. Um, and and what I why I brought up their social media because they're playing it up together. Like they're always hanging out and and posting things. Not that they're dating or anything. I'm not saying that. Like, I I don't even know if they're gay IRL. You know what I mean? I'm just saying that it's very playful and cute to get more buzz going on about it, how like playful they are and silly they are with it. So um, and I think one of the comments or articles um was that he he said it it looks very real, like my reactions sometimes during those scenes are kind of genuine, um, like in surprise look, because he let him do whatever he wanted basically during those scenes. Like they didn't, like he's like, fair game, go do whatever you want. You could hold me like this, you could push me that, you could da da da da da da da da da da, and then that's why it looks so good and real. Like, I mean, I got a semi-in hard. You know what I mean? Like, not like it's oh they're very, very good.
SPEAKER_03That is hot, it's crazy. Yes, yeah. No, I I'm watching the show, I I'm obsessed with it. I mean, obviously it's entertaining. I do think there's a message there. Uh, and and I can't help but keep thinking about the message. Don't get me wrong, listener, gay listener. I am thoroughly enjoying the content they are putting out on these screens. And I keep thinking, is this is this like acceptable? I mean, I know it's HBO, but is this acceptable to be on regular television? Uh it is, and it's and like you said, now now having that little thingy the backstory you just told me makes sense on why it looks so real because I guess a lot of it is, but you know, I'm I'm looking at this at what what they're doing on this, and it's just like, you know, that uh super masculine, you know, sport obsessive persona is just a costume for straight men. And I don't, I mean it it really puts that on, and I see how it's like it's just showing how straight men again are going to utilize this sport obsessed persona as an excuse to obsess over other men and pretend they're allergic to being in touch with their own emotions. It's it's ridiculous, and I I think it puts a good highlight on that. Now, again, I think they're getting a lot of fan base. I did see a meme, AJ that it was all um hockey games are already seeing much higher, what do you call them? Like visitors or guests or customer guests. What are they called? Customer fans. Fans, yeah. When they go to the games. The NHL has had a massive spike in in their follower accounts on all their social media platforms and the demographics we're following, and they're like, okay, this is cool, but they also can't stop getting people. Anytime hockey players get in a fight, everybody in the crowd starts chanting, kiss, kiss, kiss, all because of Peter Garden.
SPEAKER_01I love it. Yeah, and you have, I'm sure you have hockey up there, right? Like, I don't think, I think there's some here. I don't think there's any in San maybe I don't know.
SPEAKER_03So I don't know about San Antonio. There isn't a Dallas area. We do have a professional, uh, a major league hockey team up here. And it's funny because my employer is often giving away tickets that I have not accepted, but I think I will be in the near future. But yeah, they do have a hockey league up here. But, anyways, listener, if you haven't watched that show, you need to watch it. I mean, just enjoy it for what it is. If you want to think deeper about it, there is that hidden message pretty much where, like, you know, rivalry. Gives men permission to obsess over other men. And I mean, do with that as you may. And that show really highlights it in that aspect. But it is so fucking hot.
SPEAKER_01It is. I'm enjoying watching it. And I guess I I miss I'm one of those that I'm missing the message because when you I'm hearing you say it and I'm like, does it? Oh, I I guess so maybe because I'm just it's just visually appealing to me because it's very, very beautiful men, you know. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, okay, no, you you're not wrong. And I mean I mean, I have been known to, you know, see with too many layers too deep, but I mean, you know, this whole hidden right, okay. You're only two episodes in, you really need to keep watching at least that third and fourth, because even that third episode, Hunter, which does not have anything to do with the two main characters, it still has a very similar storyline, right? And it is all towards the fact where they some people are are gay or having gay experiences, and there's obviously a lot of motion there, emotion that is tied to that, and they're suppressing it because they don't want to admit it to themselves and definitely do not want to admit it to the public. And we just had a conversation on here a couple episodes ago about how I've been uh you know wrongly allowing myself to get involved with these heterosexual men, and so that's why I'm saying it hits really close to home. And that's probably why I'm reading now, I don't want to say reading into it because when I was, you know, searching the interwebs about it, I'm not the only one that sees other messages, but that's probably why I do see these messages a little louder than the average person. That makes sense. Yeah, but you need to watch it.
SPEAKER_01I do, and I'm going to have a lot of homework, AJ.
SPEAKER_03You have a lot of homework. I'm I'm assigning you, I'm assigning you Salt Lake City, Beverly Hills, two now, three episodes. Actually, three episodes of Hidden Rivalry because the fourth number five comes out tomorrow, and also so does the other Beverly Hills come out tomorrow. So AJ.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely not. No, um, I actually will um on Friday. Um, I kind of watch that show um with um the um Jorge and Chris. So um I'm gonna go watch all three tomorrow then. Um you watch it with somebody? Yeah, why why?
SPEAKER_03I feel I feel like I have to watch it in private. Um I know I watched it on the plane, but I felt shame.
SPEAKER_01No, I think, and that's what made it more fun. Like when I think Hor has sent me, I had already seen like a clip of it, and I'm like, oh, I have to I have to tell because we watch shows. Like um, there's a couple of other ones that were we're watching, um, some kind of like weird alien one. I forgot. I think it's called Plurbus. Have you heard of that one?
SPEAKER_03No, but I'm gonna start it soon.
Socials, Recap Video, And Sign-Off
SPEAKER_01Okay, so it's um it's it's very interesting. So I watched that with them. Um there's uh another show, anyways. So when he was like, hey, new show to watch, because I go of their weekly or whatever, um, um, I was like, absolutely lutely, we're gonna start watching that. And so yeah, so we watch it together. So we'll we'll watch three on Friday tomorrow, is what I'm gonna do.
SPEAKER_03So okay. I I'm excited. Oh my god. AJ, we have a lot coming up. We have the holiday. I'm still not sure. I think we are planning. For listener, if you don't know, we typically record on Thursdays um with some minor deviations here and there. So we think we're planning, but not 100% sure. We might give you a little Christmas app. Who knows? Uh we'll be around for sure one way or another. Um, AJ, other than all of your your sundown socials and whatnot, what else you got going on this weekend in Fire Games?
SPEAKER_01Um, this weekend, um, I kind of need to look at my um date book or whatever, but of course I'm gonna go to Sundown Social on Sunday. Um, and uh I I can't really um I think there was something to I don't girl, I need to I like I just get alerts and then I just appear and I go. But uh there's a lots, a lot of stuff to go that are going on again. What was what was why? Do you know something that I don't? What am I?
SPEAKER_03I just want to let the listener recognize that he said he's gonna look at his date book. I just picture you like, girl, I was in high school. I'm so sorry. I gotta I gotta I gotta see this once to be in high school. Her name was Priscilla Enriquez. I doubt she'll she'll never hear this. But I was in high school and third time I said that, and we are all out and like, you know, leaving for the day, out waiting by the parking lot, and we all decided to go to a party. So we all pull out our phones to exchange phone numbers, and she pulls out like an address book and she's like, guys, I don't have a cell phone yet. Yes, it was like 2005, but it was just so funny that we're all in our little Nokia's and whatnot, and my Sony Erickson, and she's all anybody got a pen? But guess what? Girl was at that party. She was here, she went home, she picked up that house phone, she confirmed, and she showed up. So, yes, AJ, you look at your date book and you confirm your events, okay?
SPEAKER_01Leave me alone. That's terrible. Um, so where can everyone find you, Jay?
SPEAKER_03Everyone can find me right here on Dose of Delusion podcast on Instagram or my personal Instagram at BJ Allday. If you get crazy, go to TikTok at the Morally Corrupt J Dave and AJ. Where can they find you?
