MindSoil – Turbo Byte is a raw, real-time lesson in mindset, priorities, and how your inner world shapes real outcomes.

In this fast, powerful episode, Tombo Baldwin shares a deeply personal story following his son’s serious car accident—and the unexpected financial and emotional challenges that followed. What unfolds isn’t just a story, but a set of Turbo Bytes: short, actionable mindset shifts you can apply immediately when life throws you into crisis.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Use high-stress moments as evaluation tools instead of emotional traps
  • Forgive yourself, clear mental “soil,” and visualize better future responses
  • Avoid collapsing into fear-based “fix-it mode” and instead open possibilities
  • Recognize how thoughts, imagination, and belief quietly shape real-world outcomes

Through insurance surprises, unexpected bills, and everyday tests of character, Tombo shows how slowing down, choosing perspective, and refusing to lock into worst-case thinking can change what actually happens next.

It’s honest. It’s gritty. It’s funny. And it’s deeply human.
A little redneck wisdom, a little quantum imagination, and a whole lot of lived experience.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, reactive, or stuck in “this is just how it is” thinking—this Turbo Bite will help you reset, refocus, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Hope for the best. Believe in the best. Deal with the rest.

What you agree with gains permission to operate in your life.

I'm giving you the best that I got. So thank you. So these are gonna be called TurboBytes. And the first TurboBytes, so absolutely hilarious, came immediately after I did my last podcast, Mind Soil, which is releasing tomorrow. That'll be Sunday, I believe the 14th. It's releasing at 6 a.m. or something like that because I'm an early morning guy. And I like to pick the early morning because it's my quiet time. It's where I get a lot of my ideas. So this is gonna be releasing shortly after for you subscribers. And it's hilarious because if you listen to Mind Soil, you'll totally understand it. But my son, my youngest, got in a car accident. Oh, we're thinking about a week ago now. Pretty serious. Total, this car was going 60 miles an hour. Stoplight was changing. Road conditions were not great. And so he hit the brakes, realized he wasn't gonna be able to stop, thought about going through the light, but instead smashed down the brakes on a front-wheel drive car. And most of you know, if you live in areas with snow or ice or slick roads, what happens when you slam on the brakes on a front-wheel drive car, unless you got like studs that are like spikes, your back end is gonna come around, which his did. Spun around, hit a car at the intersection on the other side, then proceeded into a ditch that was about an eight-foot drop. Yeah, scary, right? Scary. Calls me, I'm at work, and I'm so proud of myself because this would not have been true years ago. This is the work that I've done and really getting my mindset and prioritizing what's important to me. And what's important to me is family and even greater than that, just people in general. My first question is, are you okay? Not how bad is it? You know, is your car totaled? And he's like, yeah, I'm okay. And I'm like, I'll be right there. Where are you at? Didn't ask any of those questions. So proud of myself. So turbo bike number one, when you have situations like this, utilize them as an evaluation tool to see where you're at. You may have different priorities than me, and that's fine, but know what your priorities are. And when you come to a crisis situation, and I actually did it right there because that's the way my mind works, but you may want to do it later or something, but that is so important because then you can make assessments and your body and your mind, all that is you takes that when you actually focus on it and you say, okay, that wasn't the way I want to do it. Then, okay, key turbo bite key, you're going to get two turbo bites today. But key is visualizing how you want to respond differently in the future. If this would happen and you use every bit of imagination that you have, you're exercising your imagination and you're visualizing the reality of your response in a future, you forgive yourself. Okay, this is how we keep the soil clear for the response that you did. If it was less than you wanted, okay, you forgive yourself and you move on because that grounds on, you don't want that ground taken up by regret and remorse and stuff. You just realize, okay, wasn't the response that I'm going for, but I am a work in progress. You say that to yourself, I am a work in progress and you forgive yourself. So absolutely important because now that soil of your mind, which is your future now, okay, that is your future. Now you need that soil. You need that space to plant the good things and the good things are those things that you're visualizing how you would do it differently. Okay, I have done because for better or for worse, we've had accidents in our family. It's probably because there's eight of us all together. So that's an eventual thing. I didn't always respond that way and I'm so glad I use that as an evaluation tool. So get in a situation like that or similar, evaluate your response. Is it where you wanted it to be? Like the characters and the development that you're working towards? If it's not, forgive yourself for falling a little short, confess that you're a work in progress and then visualize with everything you've got, emotions, feelings, colors, all that stuff that you can pull in your imagination. Okay, imagination is a work in progress. Say at first it's really hard to do this, but the more practice it gets easier. Okay, you have just leveraged something powerful. Okay, so my real test came and I did pass, but like with a C, okay, but it's still passing. Okay, it's still a win. So we were looking at insurance coverages and this is my chagrin and a lot of you out there are going to be like, Tom, how could you not have known this? And I don't know. I've asked myself that a few times and I've had to forgive myself for not knowing because I usually like, I love knowledge and I love finding out things and I did not know this. But in Montana, when you have liability coverage for some reason, I thought that not only did it cover the person, because my son was at fault in this accident, that he hit for the medical, but it also covered him. Now I realized the liability of the car, you know, that's a done deal. That's, it's total, that's, I did not realize that it did not cover him. And so my wife was telling about the chiropractic appointments and that my son thought he didn't have medical coverage. And I was sure he did tell, I went upstairs and did some research on the computer and found out he actually doesn't. And my wife's like, I just told them that we would take care of that chiropractor bill. And she's like, Oh, I'm sure it's under a thousand dollars. I don't know about you, but a thousand dollars is a fair bit of money for me. And, you know, I work pretty hard, you know, we, we do well. And as we're working on this, you know, living this future now, there is increase coming in. And so, you know, it's good, but a thousand bucks, it's still a thousand bucks. And she's like, and I was just like, well, you should have them just cancel that next appointment next, whatever, two or three before he leaves, because he's going on this awesome trip, which I'm so glad of. And I got to tell you through this whole thing, he has been a trooper and handling stuff, going to court. The kid is absolutely amazing. He has truly stepped up and he's a listener to the podcast, which I didn't know. And I was like, that's kind of cool, you know? And, uh, I'm, I'm just so proud of him. He did a great job and I'm not just saying all that because he might listen to it, but it's a bonus if he does. And my wife and I, Adrian tried to express as we're proud of our kids and give him encouragement, but he's been a trooper. But for myself in this, I'm just like, and, and my wife says to me, and she actually really helped me pass this test, which she's a listener too. And I actually didn't know that either. It's like, I just, I don't put anything on my family to listen. This is something I do because I love doing it and I love helping people. And if just one person gets helped, I'm, it's totally worth it. The cost, the time is totally worth it. But she's like, can we just do this? And I took a deep breath and, um, okay. And I'm 51% convinced, maybe 50.001% convinced. And my words that came out, this is the past. Okay. And I had some belief there and enough to get me over the hump. Okay. It's all you need is enough to get over the hump. You know, it, it was like the, the football goals that kind of bounce off the bottom bar and roll in type of thing. It's still three points. Okay. Still three points. Doesn't matter how it goes in. Still three points. It's still a win. And so I said, yes. And I had to leave because I knew that my face was betraying me that 49 point, whatever, whatever percent, that's the opposite. And just, I went upstairs to my computer and first thing I did is I, I went in and changed all of our insurance coverage to add medical to that. And, uh, just because once you have knowledge, you gotta act on it. Okay. I, you can't ignore something that if you didn't know you complete ignorance once, but once you know, you gotta take action on it right away. So I did, I took action on a right away and I up that. And as I'm up there, I'm just like, yeah, I'm gonna, I'm just, we're going to do this. You know, my son needs the treatment. We're going to take care of this. I was not going to treat him. I was just looking at less expensive options because, you know, we just went into the chiropractor thinking, you know, this is taken care of. And, uh, he was able to get right in, which that's a bonus too. And I, I just really, I spent some time settling my heart and just getting around that. And here is the gem. Here's the turbo bite. Here's the thing that will boost you into the next place. It is instead of fixating on that's a lot of money, we can find a cheaper option. I was collapsing the possibilities of what could happen. It could only happen that the insurance doesn't cover it. And that I would have to cover it by saying yes to my wife. Can we just do this now? And she wasn't meaning just pay it. She's like, let's just wait. Let's just slow down. And so I said, you know, agreed that we could pay this and that, you know, if something else didn't work out, we would be responsible and we would take care of that. And then as I went off by myself, I just opened up the possibilities and it's just like, you know, anything could happen. And I said something, I say to myself all the time, I am favored. Good things are always coming my way. And you probably hear those mantras on TikTok, social media, Instagram, and they're great, but they got to be in context. They got to have substance and they got to have belief and they've got to have imagination. So I began putting my resources, imagining that somehow, some way the insurance company was going to come in and get this taken care of or that the chiropractors like you've been coming to us for a lot of years. And we know this is an unexpected, you know, blah, blah, blah. Just opening up instead of collapsing into one possibility. And that is the thing that I wish I could have learned 30 years ago. And this is your turbo bite. No matter what the situation, don't collapse into fix it mode. Okay, you're a responsible person. You do what needs to be done. You're not going to shirk your duties, but open up the possibilities. Don't collapse it into one thing that you're sure that's going to happen. Because guess what? You manifest reality and you're going to get a reality that you manifested, even though you don't like it because you were focused on that. Okay, fast forward. Reality here on the show right now. Next day, my wife called the insurance and just talked to him, say, Hey, did you get our updated coverage? And, you know, can I talk to, uh, Ty Elliott is our insurance agent and he has been forever. And well, he's with safe farm, whether you like them or not. I got to say, Ty Elliott has treated us so well. He has been the man and we so appreciate him. And he's like, well, you know, there's this thing in Montana. You guys have like eight policies with us. Let me look through them. We're able to stack coverages, which I have no idea what that meant. And what it means is since we have all those policies, we can draw from another policy that did have medical coverage. And we did have policies that had medical coverage. So guess what happened? I collapse a positive reality right in to my, all right. You guys are going to get bonus material because I'm going to give you another one. Uh, man, I should raise the subscription price. I'm not sure. So my son, as his car was totaled in the tow truck company was, you know, loading it up and stuff. Obviously we didn't want it back in the house because we live in this suburban neighborhood that has an HOA. And I appreciate their intent and keeping the neighborhood looking good. Years past, I would have cursed them and I should not do that because they really are trying to keep the neighborhood looking good. So long story short, we didn't bring it back here. And he asked him, can you store it there? And they're like, oh yeah, little did we know. This is something else. Some of you out there going to be, Tommy should have known they were going to charge you for that. They charge $65 a day to store it. Well, we find out six days later, five days later, something like that. Anyway, that it was $65 a day. Okay. You know, my son's like 19. So, you know, he has money, but that's a lot of money. Okay. Yeah. Like a thousand bucks, you know, it's what? Four or 500 bucks. Oh yeah. Around 400, 350, 400. Yeah. Depending on how many days it was. Yeah. I like the math, but we don't have to get the exact number there. And him and I were talking after work one day and he was riding home with me because he didn't have a car. And so we were riding together and just talked about since the car was totaled, and we were going to sign it over to the tow truck company, which I guess, I don't know that if they scrap them out or whatever, they've got to have a way to make money. At least I hope they do have a way to make money off of these cars. And he's like, should, should I ask them about the charges? And I was like, yeah, but here, here's the plan. I said, let's just think, or how did I word it? I want to be accurate here. I said, I bet chances are when you sign them over to it, they're just going to forgive that storage fee because they don't have to, because it's legit. And he's like, yeah, he's like, I think so too. And I was like, yeah. And I was like, all right, let's take this attitude. Let's hope for the best. Believe in the best. Deal with the rest. Hope for the best. Believe that the best is coming and deal with whatever happens. We were opening up the possibilities. We were focusing on the one that we wanted. Okay. Guess what happened? Turbo by three. They're like, oh yeah, no, we won't charge you for that. Okay. It matters what you think. It matters what you say. So be slow, think, envision, imagine, and you are going to be shocked. What comes about? Hey, I love you going to give you some exit music. Cause I love the exit music again. If you like this podcast, tell a friend, say, Hey, you might enjoy listening to it. It's funny. It's humorous. It's helpful. It's real. It's gritty. Yeah, that's me. The redneck Tombo Baldwin signing off. I got you. Do I do? I do. Got a great cup of coffee here. Got some of that 40% heavy cream. Yeah.
