Welcome back to another edition of the Free Asian Fans Podcast. Mike Jr. coming at you, and it has been an extremely hot week. I hope you all are staying cool. If you're somewhere in the Midwest near where I live, it has been very, very hot. We used to it though here. This is typical July, August weather. 90 feels like 98 because of heat index, all that. So Duchy Can't Stay Cool. Today, last week I said I would probably talk about the uh Nolan Wales case, but I'm gonna pause on that because there's so much information coming out about that still. And I'm just trying to read as much as I can about it. So I might bring it up with the fellas when I'll be podcasting with the fellas next week. So this Monday, which is tomorrow, I am recording this on Sunday, but tomorrow I'll post this later today. But I like to say I post them on Monday, but I really post them Sunday night. But anyway, next week it'll be a podcast with me and all the fellas. The original free agent fans. Right now, you're just getting the free agent fan by himself. So not gonna do the Nolan Wales story. Try to get some more information and just see where that's at next week. May or may not, but I do know one of the topics we will have, we're gonna do some stuff on the church, like the purpose of the church. That's one of them. I also have some other topics that I'm gonna run by the group. I was sitting there thinking to myself, can blacks be racist or or is it just bigotry? You know, like what's the difference? So I may do some research on that this week. Because I hear I heard from both sides, you know. Yes, black people can be racist. I always thought we could, because I felt like my grandfather was, but somebody else posed uh one of the free agent fans, I think it was Womac, said that uh it's more like bigotry with black people as opposed to racism. So I'm gonna do some research and get some definitions of bigotry and racism and just see what the difference is. And I want to touch on that more so if we don't do it when I'm with the fellas next week, because when we get together, we try to do two or three podcasts and just run them back to back. Anything that's current or like main event, we hold off. Well, we'll play that. Anything that's current or main event, I'm sorry, we'll we'll play that, we'll run that that Monday. But anything that's like a topic like what I just mentioned, we'll run it the following weeks. And I also had another topic about uh as I was thinking about life, and you know, you got the debate of life starting in Africa, it was all it just got me going down this whole rabbit hole of so does racism, I mean, how does racism even exist or race mixing if civilization came from Africa and if we came from all came from one place? So basically, if you believe in the Bible, what it said in the Bible that Adam and Eve, uh, you know, and how's there even incest? Okay, I'm I'm getting all over the place. But anyway, Adam and Eve started, God created them, they started having kids, you know, people came about, all that good stuff. So if you believe that, there had to be some lines crossed there because you got two people starting a whole race of people, or maybe I need to reread it again, maybe more people were created, but they were just the first two. But I thought I had a pretty good understanding of that. But even if you take that out, let's say you take that out uh when God cleansed the earth and flooded everything, and you had Noah and the Ark. What happened there? You know, I mean, how many people were there, like, to restart mankind, you know? So a lot of questions there, you know. So it just got me thinking, it's a whole rabbit hole, but I ain't probably do that some some weeks from now. Because I gotta do a lot of reading and researching on that, because if I just think about it from my mind, my perspective, it'll just be a bunch of my questions. I'll just be questioning myself. So anyway, just have me thinking along those lines. But we do have some other good topics coming up. But so since I'm not gonna do the Nolan Wales story today, I failed to make a pivot, well, actually, uh a true pivot topic, but I did want to talk about. So I don't know if this is all over the country or not, if everybody knows about this story, but here, close to Romet in Illinois, Southern Illinois, we had a five relatives, five people in a family were killed by a young lady that's related to them, I believe, 15-year-old young lady and her 16-year-old boyfriend. And it was all over the news here, and I'm like, man, that's crazy. Who does that? So I went out on ABC 7 Eyewitness News, their website, and this is what I found. As of this was posted July 15th on their website. East St. Louis, Illinois. New details are being revealed after five people were shot to death in southern Illinois. A 15-year-old girl and her 16-year-old boyfriend are accused of shooting and killing her family members. Two other family members survived. The husband of a survivor revealed what he says was the motive. And this is the husband, Lamarion Smiley. This is his quote. There was a list on Instagram that her and the boyfriend made. So we were aware, we just didn't know when. Now, I'm gonna pause right there. I'm gonna read the rest of the story, but I'm gonna pause right there. And because when I read that earlier, I just got to thinking. I'm like, wait a minute. You guys were aware, but you just didn't know when, but five people still ended up dead. How I mean, thinking from I guess you can always say anything if you're not in that situation, because at the end of the day, that is their loved one. Maybe they thought she was just goofing around, you know, posting stuff, like, okay, did she really mean that? Is that true? Or, you know, maybe they didn't take it seriously enough. But nowadays, you I mean, with the way kids are and the way things happen, you gotta take that seriously. I would have never put myself in a position to be alone with her. I don't know. I don't know what you could do. I mean, are you gonna get her before she gets you to steal your loved one? So I guess I guess I can see how it may have happened, but I mean, you always gotta be side-eyeing that person. You know, hey, uh, can you come pick me up from the grocery store? No, I'll send you money, I'll cash out your money for an Uber, because you know, that could be a setup. Oh, I'm in the alley by the grocery store. Especially if you read a list of people in the family that this person wanted to kill. I don't I don't know if I would have taken that as a joke. And not saying that they did, because he clearly said that they knew about it, they just didn't know when. So I don't know if they could have prevented any of this. So picking back up to the story, he also says they took them to Jones Park and they fired off in the vehicle, hitting my wife four times, killing Quentin and Shania Thompson, and shooting my auntie in the face, Smiley said. So I believe Quentin and Shania were her brother and sister. They were older, the young lady that did this with her boyfriend. And I think some aunts, I think this is his aunt. I mean, this was his wife, her aunt, who they shot four times. And I don't know if maybe later I'm gonna read it. I don't know who survived, who didn't. I know two of them, I think it was seven altogether that they tried to kill. Five died, I believe, and two survived. So when he says they took them to Jones Park, I'm assuming the ones that he's mentioning here, his wife, Quentin, and Shania Thompson, that's where she. That's where they were killed. Or maybe he is he the father? He may be the father. Huh. Okay, so his wife, that would have been the mother and the two. So she tried to execute her mom and the two siblings at this park along with her boyfriend. Lot of unanswered questions there. How'd they get to the park? If they knew about this murder-death plot, I mean, would you be willing to jump in the car and go to the park with her and her boyfriend? Because something ain't right. But anyway, let's read more and see what we can find out here. On Tuesday, prosecutors charged 16-year-old Jamier Davis. J-A-Y, it's got the little apotropy deal or whatever that is in there. M-I-E-R, Jamier Davis, with 12 felonies, including the attempted murder of his girlfriend's mother and cousin. Tiffany Thompson and Santasha Scott. So the boyfriend is getting 12 felony charges against him for trying to kill the mom and the cousin. And so we pick back up to what Smiley, LaMarion Smiley, said. I hope I'm not butchering these names, but my goodness, man. People, we gotta start. We saw using normal names. I mean, seriously. I mean, I get I'm one to talk, though. I I named my son Davion. So, you know, I should just named him after me. But anyway, he also says, she stood over my wife trying to kill her, but they had no more bullets, Smiley said. Wow. Smiley said he believed their relationship was the motive. And here's Smiley quoting again, it's all because y'all wanted to be together, so she wanted, they wanted to eliminate everybody that had a problem with the situation, he said. So this appears to be I'm gonna kill my whole family because they don't want me being with this young man. And so I'm gonna kill everybody in my family so I can be with him. Man, I mean, like, seriously, mental health is something that we really need to pick up on the signs on and possibly get people therapy or help, whatever that looks like, because this is clearly a mental health problem, because there is no way in the world, in sound mind, I would kill my entire family for just to be with some girl that they didn't like. It's just not gonna happen unless something is wrong with me mentally. You know, that is how you end up getting to that place. Let's see here. Read the rest of the story. The family says the gun used in the shootings was stolen from the 15-year-old's mother before the shooting. So she stole her mom's gun and killed a lot of her family members with it. She took the keys from her purse. This is Smiley quoting. She took the keys from her purse, LaMarion Smiley. She took the keys from her purse, unlocked the lockbox, and took the firearm, Smiley said. The police were notified as soon as they found out that the firearm was taken. So that would be a questionnaire that I would have. If the police were notified that the firearm was taken, what was the time lapse in between from the time they took the firearm to the time she took her family to the park and shot? I'm assuming it was the same day. Charges of using the stolen weapon were also filed in court along with dismembering a human body after investigators say the grandmother's thumb was cut off. Now, I don't know what that was all about. Uh I heard some other stories. I'd have to Google that more to see why they cut the grandmother's thumb off, but I guess they were, I think they I heard they were trying to get it to her phone or something. I don't know. Maybe to get some bank account information. I don't know. Now I'm just adding stuff to the story that I don't know for a fact, so I'm not gonna do that, but the thumb was cut off. Don't really know why. I just know I heard a rumor that it was to get into the grandma's phone, but I don't know. I mean, do like grandma's really, are they really that tech savvy to have the well whatever, the finger to get into their phone? Not unless somebody else set it up for grandma, because maybe she couldn't remember a password. Well, it kind of makes sense now. But anyway, charges, okay, I already read that. Prosecutors are recommending that the 15-year-old girl be tried as an adult. I'm all for that. And that's kind of what I was gonna talk about. That's why I'm reading this story because that's what stood out to me. The prosecutors want to, they recommend that she should be tried as an adult. ISP said the investigation began, ISP, Illinois State Police, I guess that's what that means, said the investigation began when human remains were found at the Samuel Gompers homes on Sunday. The victim was later identified as 49-year-old Cherry L. May of East St. Louis. And an investigation led to the identification of four shooting victims at multiple locations in the city. 25-year-old Shania W. Thompson, 24-year-old Devin May, 21-year-old Quentin L. Thompson, and 74-year-old Patricia A. May. So those were the family. Two of those people are her siblings. I think 25-year-old Shania Thompson and 21-year-old Quentin Thompson. Those were the 15-year-old siblings. And 74-year-old Patricia A. May is the grandmother, and guessing 24-year-old Devin May. Doesn't say, but I'm thinking it was a relative. They were all relatives, so I'm guessing a cousin or something. But anyway. Yeah, death penalty for children who commit, I mean, not death penalty, tried as an adult. I'm sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. I also recommend a death penalty. But anyway, being tried as an adult when you commit a crime like this at such a young age, the thing for them is Illinois doesn't have death penalty. So it would be life in prison. If my knowledge of Illinois law is still ho if that's still true. I know back in the day they didn't, but I don't believe they changed that. So I don't think they instituted death penalty in Illinois. So if it was in Missouri, they'd be in line for a death penalty, which I have no problem with death penalty, and I also have no problem with kids being charged as an adult if they commit a crime like this. I mean, yeah. We can roll back to the whole mental health part of it. Okay, she had a problem. She didn't get help. Does she really deserve to be tried as an adult and put in prison the rest of her life? In my mind, yes. Yes, she does. Even if it's a facility that will help her mentally. And I know people say, well, once she's redeemed, shouldn't she get a second chance to get out and live her life? No, because she didn't. This is just my opinion. She should not, because she didn't give her family a chance to enjoy their lives. And yeah, okay, she had a she may have had a mental issue or a problem, but they don't say anything about that here. I just, the husband, the guy that we quoted, Mr. Smiley, Lamarion Smiley, he said that he believed that mental health is a real serious thing. So he may have known her better. I'm assuming that's her aunt's husband. I mean, that's her daddy or or aunt's husband. I don't know. But anyway, he knew he knew her on some level. So he had to have known more about her than I do, certainly. So maybe she did have some mental issues that they knew about. But for me, from the outside looking in, I would say that I mean it's just horrible. Like your mind, like I already stated that your mind, you have to have something mental wrong with you, something mentally impacting you to make you choose what you think is love over your family. And something's gotta be wrong with the little boy too, because if I'm dating a girl and she's like, My family hates you, if I'm in my right state of mind, I'm not gonna go to well, let's kill him. So we can be together. I'm gonna do what kids did in my day. We just snuck and saw each other. You know, we just snuck around, sneak around and see each other. That's what we did in my day. So I guess this is a lot bigger than what I was thinking, because this just made me think of, you know, my day versus now. Like what is what has changed? What is happening to kids today? To where and you see that, you see it a lot, and you know, like it doesn't just happen with kids. Like, I remember the story a long time ago, well, a while ago. I mean, there's several stories now that I think about it. And not just this one, but I was gonna mention the one where the security guard that worked for George Meyer Ministries killed his wife and children to be with another lady. Like, where does your mind, and there's numerous stories, I think wasn't that part of the was it the Jeff Peters or whatever that guy's name was? I see that in the news again now. They're trying to say that maybe he didn't do it, but Peterson or whatever that killed the pregnant wife. But a lot of these stories about people wanting to be with somebody else, and your first mindset is to kill the other person. I don't understand that. It's definitely, to me, I feel like it's definitely something mental or to kill the other person or kill people who are that you view as blocking your path to being with this person. I just find it really odd and strange because my mind would never go there if I woke up and I guess I can say my mind would never go there because I'm I don't feel like anything is wrong with it, but if I had a mental problem, then maybe. But how do you come how do you combat that, I guess, would be the question. I don't know, because the person with the mental problem, they certainly don't probably don't even realize that they have that problem, and when they get that in their head that that's what they're gonna do, then it's probably just pretty much too foregone at that point. But with this family, I gotta feel like maybe you could have gotten her mental help before it got to this point. When you notice it on TikTok or whatever it was, you noticed uh Instagram that she posted a list of people in the family that she was going to kill to be with this young man. And me personally, if I was the young man, was what I was about to say earlier, you know, that I wouldn't go to that oh, let's kill him because you know something's gotta be wrong with him as well to actually agree to that. You know, I mean what happened? What is it that maybe I because I don't know, I don't know. I didn't do all the research on every, you know, I didn't Google back in my day, you know, put in some years and dates. Did this happen? You know, kids, you know, I mean, there may have been some one option. It just seems very frequent now that people go to that extreme of, oh, I'm gonna I gotta kill somebody because I want to be with this person. And you know, it's something it's like what? Is it something in the water? I mean, like, is it all the access that they that they have to online stuff? Is that impacting it? You know, what what is making it to where that seems to be the easy, it the easiest way out? Because now, guess what? You could have left your family alone and just snuck around, ran away with this little boy and been with him for the rest of y'all's lives. Just keep stay on the run until y'all were old enough to say, hey, or sneak around with him until you, I mean, he's 16, you 15. You had three years at 18, you could have been with him. You know, sneak around three years. Let your family be mad. But they still would have been alive because now you're in jail. You're not gonna be with him. And, you know, he if he's going to adult prison, he's gonna be with somebody, but it ain't gonna be you. He somebody like Fleece Johnson said, somebody's gonna be in your butt. And that's Just I don't know if it's like that in prison. And I probably shouldn't be laughing at this young man's misery, but I don't I found a hard time finding sympathy for him and her for what they did to these five people who, for all intents and purposes, didn't deserve this. So, but y'all not gonna be together anyway now because you're going to jail. And Illinois, with that many people, I gotta assume that they probably gonna get life. You know, so you never gonna see him again. He's never gonna see you again. So y'all did all that for what? Y'all just killed five people who could have still been out here enjoying life, and now they're gone, and y'all not gonna be together anyway. What y'all thought y'all was killing, unless something comes out and there was a different reason they killed. But according to one of the people involved in this, La Marion Smiley, that that is what he believes was the reason that all of this happened, because apparently the family opposed her being with this young man and she wanted to be with him. And that's that happens, man. I mean, kids, I mean, like, families aren't always approving of who you date. And, you know, a lot of times we're rebellious rebellious when we're that age, and we're gonna do it anyway. And it's like, oh, I wanna, I still want to date this person. So you do it, and but you don't kill anybody because of it. But this ain't the first time I've seen a story like this. I watched a long time ago, well, maybe not too long ago. It was a dateline. I can't remember the lady, I'd have to Google it, but it was a little young white girl that uh that killed her family. I had her family executed because she wanted and then tried to say that she didn't wasn't a part of it. And I think uh the dateline interview, uh maybe Dr. Phil may have interviewed her as well, but I uh can't remember the whole story, but anyway, it was very similar to this. And she's in jail, probably still in jail, and you still not with that person. So, uh man. But anyway, should she be tried as an adult? Should both of them be tried as an adult? I say yes because you did in a in a very adult thing, and I don't even know if you can put age like adult child thing on murder because you really shouldn't be doing it anyway. But if you do, you the I guess the punishment should fit the crime. And in this case, no, I know I certainly don't want to see both of them go to juvenile detention or whatever and spend because I think you age out of juvenile, so you're talking these kids could just be there four or five years each, if it's 21, 20, whatever, four, five, six years each, and go on with their lives after killing five people. It's like a year of life, and I don't think that's fire, that's fair because five people are gone. I don't think they should ever see freedom again. You know, and it's easy for me to say, you know, because I mean, would I I mean at the end of the day, if it was my child that did that, and on the outside, I would have to accept that decision because you did something horrible. And I don't think this had anything to do with the child's upbringing or how she was raised. I know a lot of racist like to jump online because these kids were black and the people that died were black and say, oh, they may raise them better. But other races do the same stuff. So, I mean, just knock all that dumb shit off because it's really stupid. But I don't think this had anything to do with how she was raised. I don't know that family, but if what LaMurrian Smiley said that it was because of love and wanting to be with somebody, that has nothing to do with how she was raised. That just has something to do with a child not thinking and being smart and thinking that, oh, this is the right thing to do because it'll get me what I want at the end of the day. And no, it does not. You do not have that person, and now you're gonna be in jail and hopefully try it as an adult and spend the rest of your life in prison. Sucks for the Illinois residents because y'all gonna have to pay for that for the rest of her life, and she's young. So at 15, she could live till her 80s, 90s in prison. So somebody got to pay for it, taxpayer dollars. But I mean, what else can you do with it? I just I just hate that it happened. It's such a tragic thing to happen. You got five people gone because somebody feels like they're so in love with somebody, and there's no real clear answer as to how to get out in front of that. But I can say this if you get a sign like that, somebody posting a list, there's a lesson to be learned here. If someone's posting a list, family members that they want to kill, take it seriously. I don't know what you gotta do. Get them mental help, something, whatever it is, you gotta do something. Report it, get the police involved heavily, make sure you don't have any weapons around in the house. I mean, but like weapons and guns are so easy to get nowadays, it's just it's just sad. But I mean, try to do something to save some lives in this case. I don't know, would it have worked? We don't know, but you know, you you can't help but try. So, anyway, condolences to condolences to that family. I don't know why, what is going on. I'm not sipping any alcohol today, guys, because I know I will be sipping next week when I'm with the fellas, so and we sip a lot. So we're gonna try to stay sober, though, get these podcasts done before we get all crazy, but that's when you get the aftermaths. I will record because sometimes we have some really good conversations. But anyway, before I get into that, condolences to that family. I really wish this didn't happen. And I do hope that the punishment fits the crime for both this young man and this young lady who did this to the family. So, but next week, like I said, we'll do some. I think one of our topics is what is the purpose of the church? I was thinking the black church, but I'm thinking any church in general. Black church, white church, non-denominational, mixed, whatever, straight, gay, lesbian, whatever church you go to. What is the purpose? So we're gonna talk about it. We're gonna unwrap all that. And we're gonna try to do it in 30 minutes, but you know, sometimes we go a little bit over because that's a heavy topic and it's deep. So we'll see what happens next week. Join us for that.
