Why ‘You Do You’ and ‘Follow Your Heart’ Won’t Truly Satisfy You with Trevin Wax
“Follow your heart.” “You do you.” “You are enough.“
We take these slogans for granted, but what if this path to personal happiness leads to a dead-end? Trevin Wax joins in this episode for a conversation about his recent book, Rethink Your Self.
Trevin encourages us to rethink some of our society’s most common assumptions about identity and the road to happiness. Most people define their identity and purpose by first looking in (to their desires), then looking around (to express their uniqueness), and finally—maybe—looking up (to add a spiritual dimension to life). Rethink Your Self proposes a counter-intuitive approach: looking up before looking in.

Well, what's up everybody. Dave Hess here. Welcome to episode 26 of the college, faith and leadership podcast. We have a great episode coming up with. Author blogger and thinker, Trevin wax from the gospel coalition. But Hey, before we get into that conversation, I want to just pause because we are now past the one year mile marker for this podcast. And so. I'm excited. And you may have noticed that there was a brief. A delay in releasing podcasts episodes. I decided to just push pause for the month of July. And to just focus on some other things, spend some time with family and, uh, just kind of refresh and freshly dream for what this next season is going to look like. And a change I'm going to be making moving forward at this point is I'm going to be releasing one episode a month instead of an episode every other week. And reason being, I want to continue to deliver high quality, really helpful content to you. And I know that in this season, I need to really lean into some, uh, some other aspects of ministry. Uh, I know in where I am currently focused in the Northeastern us and the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania, I, uh, I'm excited. We've got some renewed opportunities and things are starting to. Open up again. Uh, after a long year and a half of the pandemic, I know in many places that are still experiencing lockdowns and I don't know what the next few months are going to hold, but. Uh, at least for her right now, we've got a, an opportunity for a lot of in-person kind of engagement ministry. And so really going to be focusing heavily on that in the next several months. And uh so anyway uh, we'll be going to once a month and with that i am going to bring you this conversation with Trevin wax
