Speaker 1

Proverbs 22, . Verse 29 says Do you see a man skillful in his work ? He will stand before kings . He will not stand before obscure men . Fellow Marketplace Christians , stop apologizing and start winning . Welcome to the Success Edge , the show that helps you take your walk as a Marketplace Christian to the next level . Here's your host Christian entrepreneur Tyler McHart .

Speaker 2

What's going on ? Kingdom of Success . This is Tyler McHart coming at you , episode 421 . Man , excited to be able to do this episode with you guys . Thank you so much for tuning back in . Excited to be able to do this episode with you guys . Thank you so much for tuning back in . It is an honor and a blessing that you would even be listening to this and if you're a returning listener , I'm even more honored because you actually came back .

Speaker 2

So I'm actually out on a walk right now and I've got some notes on my phone because , like I promised you , I was going to talk a little bit about something that kind of related to actually last week's episode and it was actually in regards to the family planning aspect . So good morning . So before I jump into all that , I just want to give a quick shout out to the sponsor , and that's obviously this education process that I'm taking people on with a deeper dive into the family banking and legacy planning process . Guys , if you would like to do what the Rockefellers did , except do it from a biblical standpoint , and that is to actually help a family keep their wealth together for now seven generations and be able to keep the family values , the family motto together , like what the Rothschilds have been able to do from again biblically . I would highly recommend you actually reach out to me , send me a message right down below in the show notes and we can have a good morning , have a good conversation about that . Talk in more in-depth . Please put your email address or phone number when you're actually sending that message to me so I have a way to get back with you .

Speaker 2

But again , family banking and legacy planning guys , helping you take control , helping you well , I'll just leave it at that . So there you go . So I know that this episode might actually parlay right into what I just got done , mentioning about our morning , family banking and legacy planning , but it's something that has just been stirring on my heart over the last several weeks , last several weeks , and I've grown considerably in this area , having just a whole greater understanding and a greater insight and really seeing the importance of this . Good morning . Those are beautiful dogs right there . So story time . Boys and girls , here we go , story time . So I think I mentioned to you that I recently got together with a state planning and business planning attorney , so I'm probably actually partnering up with him for this whole legacy , family banking and legacy planning aspect . But he , as I , was giving him this vision of what we're doing , what I feel led the Holy Spirit is leading me to do as far as helping people .

Speaker 2

He actually recommended I go listen to a YouTube slash podcast episode from my Iron Forums and the speaker was Randy Pope . Okay , good morning , and Randy , I believe . I don't really know his background . I know he's maybe a former pastor and but I wound up finding the episode and he was mainly talking about business . Okay , he was coming from a kind of a leadership , talking about culture , how culture , you know , kind of plays into things with your business and your organization . You might be leading , but did he ever kind of knock at least me , knock me out just out of the upside the head with this whole entire thing ? Sorry about that , guys . I had to push pause because

Family Banking and Legacy Planning

Speaker 2

they were blowing off this field .

Speaker 2

I don't know if you can hear that in the background , but , man , that was loud . So anyway , let me go back to the story . So I'm sitting there listening to Randy and Randy he tells the story of how that he got invited to be a guest speaker at this business conference . And actually it was actually for a specific company and this company had well over like 1,000 employees . So they had pulled in like at least 100 or so of their senior managers and top-level executives and they were doing a conference and they brought Randy in and Randy said you sure you want me to come in , because I would say I'm a Christian and what I teach is Bible stuff ? And he said , well , can you do this without talking about the Bible ? And Randy's like , well , sure , I'll do it , I'll take the challenge . So he goes to this business conference where this totally you know company that has nothing to do with Jesus , nothing to do with anything spiritual Jesus , nothing to do with anything spiritual . He comes in and one of the very first questions he asks this group . He starts taking kind of like soliciting answers from them about having a business plan and planning . And why is it important ? And he said , man , he had all these executives , all these managers start giving reasons why planning and strategy is so important to business , is so important to business . And he said they probably talked about that for at least the 10 to 15 minutes , all the executives and all the people giving him feedback . He'd ask another question . Another executive would get up and talk , and so at the end of that he turned the tables on him . Oh , how it is with a speaker . He turned the tables on him and said , just by a show of hands , so he said so you know , in essence , having a business plan is vitally important . You know , you would not go and invest into this company or any said company or any said you know project , if the person because he was just kind of summing up everything they had been telling him said that so you would not go and invest your money into a project , that if the guy just kind of came out there and nonchalantly said , hey , we're going to go sell a whole lot of stuff . Our plan is to get out there , beat the streets , you know , shake some bushes and go and talk to a lot of people about this widget that we have . That's our plan . I seriously doubt , and y'all would probably agree that you would actually go and invest your money into , say , someone that did not have a plan . Everybody , 100% everybody in the audience said absolutely no way , jose . Well , good morning .

Speaker 2

Randy goes says so based upon what you guys have told me . Tell me about your life plan and your plan for your family , your family plan . And it was crickets ,

Randy Pope's Business Conference Story

Speaker 2

crickets . Nobody answered , nobody said anything . I think there might have been one or two executives that might have raised their hands Crickets . Nobody answered , nobody said anything .

Speaker 2

I think there might have been one or two executives that might have raised their hands and said you know , actually I have a kind of somewhat of a life plan . I have a mission statement , a value statement , some values and everything like that , but that's about it . And Randy kind of challenged them and said so here you are , guys . This is just a wake-up call . Here you are . You would never invest into a business , into any kind of enterprise , any kind of project . You wouldn't invest your time , you wouldn't invest any of your resources if you knew that that thing that you're investing in had no plan . And hence 90 , probably 95% of us in this room don't even have a life plan and don't even have a plan for their family , which I would hope that everyone in this room would sit there and agree with me . Well , those two things right there are probably way more important than any kind of business plan that you could ever have .

Speaker 2

So when Randy got done talking , I'm going oh man , good morning . I said wow , wow , wow , I'm going to have to use this right here on the King of Success podcast episode , right here . I know this is going to hit home with everybody in the sound of my voice . I know this is going to hit home with everybody in the sound of my voice . So here I am doing Joshua Men this year and we did . We actually had a month where we actually spent time in a book called Visionary by Andy Stanley and really kind of where we actually talked about what is our vision statement , what is the mission statement for our life , what is our values that we have , and that was all well and good .

Speaker 2

But I don't believe that we really spent enough time talking about the planning process . Because , gang , I'm just going to go ahead and tell you , the planning process is not the fun part . It's difficult , it requires actually thinking , it requires you actually taking the time to slow down , to actually make a plan . It requires you to actually have to go and talk to other people about your plan . Good morning sir . Anticipate other outcomes or things that you have that might come up , and it's tough , it's not the most glorious , it's not the most glamorous thing out there , but here I am . I'm not going to talk about today your life plan , because I believe you need one and I hope that you know , honestly , your life plan . Let me take a side note real quick about life plan .

Speaker 2

Okay , so for me personally , something that has really helped me out . I know this might be old school , but and I didn't know I was doing this until I but and I didn't know I was doing this until I , until it kind of happened . So I decided this past year in December that I was actually going to go back to a paper planter and there's a paper planter system . This is just a resource that you can go and use if you want to do it . There's a paper planter system . This is just a resource that you can go and use if you want to do it .

Speaker 2

There's a paper planner system called the Franklin Covey . It was big back in the 80s and 90s huge . And then all of a sudden , you know , everybody got so , even myself got so hyper-focused and hyper-excited about digital and we're never going to use paper again , and so forth Morning , to the point where that you know we got lost in this digital age and you know , digitalize this place . But I've just I've kind of come back to the fact that I needed something where I can actually have come back to the fact that I need something where I can actually have a tactile feel and write something out , because , man , my brain does something a whole lot different than sitting there typing on the keyboard . Well , anyway , so I got a Franklin planter and you know , honestly , it's kind of bulky , I'm not going to lie , but it acts kind of like my central hub for really a lot of things for me . Well , anyway , inside that paper planner , it does a great job of actually helping you walk through your mission statement , your values and how to actually incorporate that into your life , into your day-to-day stuff . So that's just a thought . There's probably other resources out there that help you do that with your life plan , but that Franklin Covey stuff , I mean , I'd do it even today . I was looking at it yesterday and just check to see if I'm on track .

Speaker 2

Well then we talk about family stuff . Whoa , I mean , we're quick . I mean I'm thinking of a gentleman right now that's on LinkedIn . Great guy , he's actually a great man of God too , and he's got his own executive coaching for leaders and for a specific industry . I don't need to go in the industry , but he does a great job and you know he's all very intentional about . You know how you've got to have a direction . You've got to have a vision . You've got to have values that you can . You know he's all very intentional about . You know how you've got to have a direction . You've got to have a vision . You've got to have values that you can , you know , help your team with , and so forth .

Speaker 2

And I'm just sitting there going . You know where are all the family consultants ? Where are the family consultants that come along us dads ? Where are the family consultants that come along us dads ? Yep , I believe we've got ministers of the gospel that can help us do that from a spiritual standpoint . But here's the problem with that we forget that we have this financial element that plays into

Life Planning vs Business Planning

Speaker 2

our families and we live in these silos so , and we don't have a plan in order to be able to mix both of these together in the most respected way . We want to keep these two things separate . We want to keep these two things separate .

Speaker 2

And , gang , I mean I saw my mom and dad God rest their souls do a fantastic job I mean I'm talking amazing job of creating a spiritual legacy , spiritual heritage for me and my sisters and for the grandchildren okay , for me and my sisters and for the grandchildren . I'm seeing it play out for my in-laws as well . They're doing just a fantastic job . But on the other side , I'm just going to speak to my parents because they're passed away . So they actually did the Bible .

Speaker 2

I know people criticize me or criticize people for actually , you know , having wealth get passed down and so forth , and I'll admit , there is this whole entire trust fund , baby type stuff , baby type stuff . But if it's done right , if it's done with integrity and ethics and it's taught right , here's the big thing . If it's taught right and communicated right , oh man , this is a powerful , powerful thing . What the enemy wants to keep in silos , and that was it For me . That was what happened to me , that I saw with my parents .

Speaker 2

You know , mom and dad did a fantastic job from a spiritual standpoint , did a fantastic job from a financial , to do the Bible , to leave an inheritance for your children's children , okay , yet , yet it was done in silos , it wasn't brought together , it wasn't taught to us kids from a standpoint of how do we take this ship , this creation that we've worked so many years , these 80,000 hours of our lives that we've worked , how do we take this that we've worked so much for and package it all together ? How do we do that ? How do we break down those silos ? Well , I feel like that . We've got to have a new vision for families . This is not going to be a new concept , but it's definitely going to be something maybe new to you that you've probably never heard of , because it's not spoken about a lot , and that's actually to have a family constitution . Yep , a family constitution .

Creating a Family Constitution

Speaker 2

So what is the family constitution ? I'm just going to read what I've documented so far . So this is a simple , powerful framework that helps you , help your family , build a legacy rooted in values , vision and unity . Okay , so this actually gives your ship I'm going to call it your ship your family , your family is your ship . You're the captain of the ship . This whole family constitution actually gives your family direction . Family Constitution actually gives your family direction . It gives them something to be that North Star for them . So I know that I've even got documents now that I've started to create to be able to help families go through this .

Speaker 2

Actually , this exercise and you know , if you're interested in this , you know reach out to me again but you know , being able to define your family values . What does your family want to be known ? What does your family value ? This involves your kids , having conversations with kids . I've done this here recently . I've done this here now with my family . How about defining your family vision ?

Speaker 2

Okay , having a family vision of these types of things that you want to see , the spiritual family culture , wealth , this vision that you want to have , and even having kind of a mission statement and with these family values , you actually kind of back the family values up with you . You know what they actually mean . The family values are actually just not just say , hey , I'm going to value honesty and integrity , okay , great , a lot of corporations , a lot of companies . I mean , how many companies do you know ? How many companies do you know that have that right there ? But honestly , it's just words on a , you know a wall and that's all they are . They're really not practiced . They don't really have any kind of substance behind them or action plan behind them . This , this is again why the this whole planning thing has to happen . Well , in that family constitution , you can actually get feedback and consensus actually with your family .

Speaker 2

Bring your family together , like I did this recently over the summer with my kids and my wife , where we talked about our values , we talked about the vision to lay the groundwork of what we're trying to get accomplished as a McCart family , and then you got to implement it . Now you can , you can and this is where I believe the silos have to be broken down and where we don't have to be afraid of all right is where that we actually kind of make this into a legal document of how a family is supposed to to to go forward . That might be a little bit of stretch for a lot , lot of people . You might say , well , why do I want to do that ? Well , the financial piece is a big piece because I just have to go off on this real quick . To go off on this real quick , so when my mom and dad were alive and were able to influence us as kids and their grandkids , to bring the family together .

Speaker 2

Well , it took some money to do that . You know my mom and dad my mom primarily we would have a family vacation at least once a year , and she didn't know she was doing this , but she was . And you know , one good reason why we were able to come together is because mom said hey , look , we're getting together as a family . I bought the lodging so you don't have to pay for that . All right , now you're going to pay for the food and travel to get down there , but the lodging is paid for and , trust me , we would all show up . Isn't that amazing ? It's amazing how that worked . But you know what . It took money . It took money to be able to do that . Now you might say , hey , tyler , I'm nowhere near to even pay for my family to have something . That's okay . Hey , can you get together for a backyard barbecue and gather people together at your house , bring them together and just cook some hot dogs ? You don't have to be expensive and do that . You don't have to go off on a vacation . But here's where the family constitution stuff really kind of kicks in . But at some point on that vacation , some point in that you know .

Speaker 2

Gathering of your family , guys , at some point you pull out and you start talking about the vision , you start talking about the values of the family . Doesn't have to be long , can be 15 minutes , it could be an hour , it doesn't matter . Also , where you share stories with your kids and your grandkids about decisions you made , about things that you had to decide upon that were tough decisions , and how God guided you , how the Holy Spirit guided you into certain areas of your life . Having those stories actually documented , not just in word format , but actually documented . And you want to know something that's actually biblical documented stories . I mean , look at the children of Israel . Stories . I mean , look at the children of Israel , moses . Moses took all the stories of Genesis , exodus , leviticus , numbers , deuteronomy and wrote them all down . And the Torah now is the central hub , central hub to actually the Jewish faith . That was no mistake at all . God knew exactly what he was doing

Documenting Family Values and Stories

Speaker 2

by guiding Moses to be able to gather up all these stories and piece them together . No accident there .

Speaker 2

So why don't we do that ? Why don't we actually have some kind of document that helps our family stay together , help them govern and not just have basically where we divide the wealth up that mom and dad have worked so hard for for all these years . Basically , it's just a distribution and then you go off and do whatever . But what if we actually kept the wealth together and worked together as a family , had parameters , had governing , you know things for that , had conflict resolution kind of baked in , having decision-making process baked in to that family constitution to be able to help them ? This is all family planning . Guys , you might say , golly , tyler , this is a lot . But well , tell me your business plan . Tell me the business plans you got . Is it fairly detailed out ? Do you have numbers ? Do you have , you know , activities ? Do you have things that you're going to do ? Yeah , you do . So why would you do this for your family ? This is what , guys , I apologize for . I don't apologize because I'm talking to my own self , because I didn't do this and I'm doing it now .

Speaker 2

I'm at 47 and I kind of woke up and said you know , I've got to change . I've got to change my family . I've got to start teaching my kids , especially now that they are young impressionable , especially now that they are young impressionable they're still underneath my home , where that I model this , where that teach this and that , where that we start to keep the family together . Yeah , my kids are going to be able to do their own individual things that god's called them to . I'm not so they're going to be a dictator , but I'm going to say that guess what ? We can actually have a family structure and a family system that actually helps to pass along generational values , generational legacy , generational wealth , for at least two or three generations . Not two , but how about three ? At least have that vision , because that's definitely biblical . I mean Rockefellers , we've got seven generations . I don't know if any of them are Christians , no idea , gang , I know I kind of got a little passionate about this .

Speaker 2

My walk is done , but I hope you get my message with this that this whole family planning stuff and having a life plan is important . And I'm here shouting from the rooftops , talking to families , helping them , guide them through this , saying this is important , this is Bible , and I'm asking you to do something about it .

Call to Action and Final Thoughts

Speaker 2

I am Now . Here's my two call to actions . Okay , the first call to action is maybe the first thing you need to do is actually have your own life plan . Okay , maybe you don't have a life plan . Maybe you've never even thought about having a life plan when you have your own personal vision of dad , husband , father . Do you even have that for yourself ? I think that has to be your first call to action . Okay , I mentioned Franklin Covey stuff . I know that there's plenty of other things that can help you do that , you know . Again , if you've got questions about that , feel free to reach out to me on it . You know , just put a way to get back with you , all right .

Speaker 2

Second call to action is this resonated with you If this kind of hit home and you actually thought of somebody else , just one person I'm not saying 10 , I'm not saying blast this out on social media just one , one person that said , hey , when I was listening to this , I thought about you . I think this would be a good thing , good resource , good little sounding board to help you out and think you through these things . Okay , send this to them , share it . Okay to them , share it . Okay , just share it . So , kingdom of success . I'm going to be quiet with my rant this morning . I'm done with my walk . But , gang , know that you're blessed , you're highly favored , you're empowered to prosper . You walk in divine health . Spirit of breakthrough is on you , gang , we'll catch you on the other side .
