Welcome to the Success Edge, the show that helps you take your walk as a Marketplace Christian to the next level. Here's your host Christian entrepreneur Tyler McHart.
Speaker 2:What's going on? Kingdom Success listeners, tyler McHart coming at you, episode 407. It has been a little while, guys Been a little while, so all right, before I move forward with anything else, let's go ahead and just start off with some prayer and just quiet our minds and pause a little bit, and then we're going to jump into things. So, father Jesus, holy Spirit, we love you. Yes, we love you, yes, we love you. Thank you for loving us.
Speaker 2:Lord. Thank you so, so much for loving us. Thank you for just allowing us to come to you in expectation that we will hear from you, we will receive from you. Thank you for that. I just yeah, if you've got something that's been rattled around in your mind, guys, or something that's been weighing on you, just release it, cast it on the Lord. Go ahead, take a second, just cast it that big meeting that you've got coming up, or trying to figure out how you're going to fix your relationship with your spouse, the situation with your finances that you don't know what to do with just go ahead and cast that. Cast it on the Lord, because he will sustain you guys. Cast it.
Speaker 2:Thank you, Lord. Thank you, lord. We love you. We're excited for things. Father, in Jesus' name, amen, all right, kingdom Success. It's been a pleasure to actually talk to you guys and let me go ahead and get this out of the way too so my episodes are going to be sponsored by Unbridled Wealth. This is a new business venture that I am a part of, where that I'm actually helping people create a family bank. The family bank concept is something where you actually can take control of your own banking system instead of relying upon the traditional banking system.
Speaker 2:This is a way out of the norm of the traditional banking system and you taking control of your money and how it flows and how it comes in and goes out is your opportunity and your opportunity to create a legacy for your family, your own family economy. If you're interested in that, obviously you can direct message me on Instagram or reach out to me via text. There's actually a send me a message right here, actually inside the show notes. You can message me that way.
Speaker 1:That'd be great all right, so that's out of the way, a couple quick things.
Speaker 2:I know it has been a little while since I've actually spoken to you guys I think last time I looked it was december the 10th and know I just hadn't recorded an episode. There's really no good excuse, it's all excuses. Could I have recorded an episode? Yeah, did I no?
Speaker 2:So oh well, here I am and here we go, so I'm driving along. I've got an appointment. Here I am and here we go, so I'm driving along. I've got an appointment this morning and so I've got a little bit of time in the car. I really today. I just want to kind of give you kind of an update, guys, on just where my life's at and what's going on with me. I feel like that. The scripture verse that I want to share as I'm pulling up to this red light is Proverbs 18.1. And this is the Amplified Classic, this kind of set up everything. Man seeks his own desires and pretext to break out against all sound wisdom and judgment. All right.
Speaker 1:That's Proverbs 18, 1,.
Speaker 2:Amplified Classic. Okay. So I'll come back to that scripture, but I just wanted to allow that scripture to be the kind of setup for what we're going to talk about. I just got done the last past weekend with going to Joshua Mint. Now, what is Joshua Mint? Great question, glad you asked. Now, what is Joshua Mint? Great question, glad you asked. So Joshua Mint has been something that I've heard about, for goodness, probably maybe about two or three years now, definitely two, I think. I've heard it spoken about way back, you know, maybe even a couple years back. But because of my association with a group of guys that I work out with and I'm around quite a bit, really for the last two years, all of them, pretty much, I believe all of them, all of them that maybe except for one, has gone through Joshua and it is a it is a men's leadership, spiritual leadership course.
Speaker 2:that is really an immersion into your spiritual leadership development and for me personally, when I first heard them talking about it, I knew it was going to be kind of an awesome thing or something. I just didn't know how or how you actually got access. I believe. The way I know it, I think it's by invite only, and the church that does this, or pretty much the church that kind of facilitates a lot of this, is 12 stone here outside of Atlanta.
Speaker 2:Georgia and the founder or the originator of Joshua men they usually call them J men, so you hear me kind of from here on out talking about J-men was Dan Ryland. And who is Dan Ryland? Great question Again. Glad you asked Dan Ryland was, he was part of, or he is maybe still, I believe, part of the inner circle of John Maxwell, If you ever read anything of John Maxwell's stuff you'll hear him talk about my inner circle, of John Maxwell.
Speaker 2:If you ever read anything of John Maxwell's stuff you'll hear him talk about my inner circle and Dan Ryland either he was or he still is part of that inner circle. He actually started out with John Maxwell all the way out at Skyline I believe it's Skyline Church somewhere in San Diego, california. That was really kind of where John Maxwell really kind of came into who he is today. I mean that was kind of the big launching point. I mean he was building, building, building his leadership and developing his leadership. He was pastor of another church over there in, I think, hillham, indiana. They have a small little country church and wound up doing some really great things in that church. But then he got his next pastorate, actually at Skyline Well, actually at Skyline.
Speaker 2:Well, dan Ryland, I believe, became John's executive pastor or maybe associate pastor, kind of basically the gentleman that runs the day-to-day operations of a church. So that's kind of who Dan Ryland is. So Dan, back in I think 87 or 88, dan Ryland is so Dan back in I think 87 or 88, was on a plane coming back and the Lord said hey, I know that we're training up a whole bunch of leaders and so forth, but I want you to reach out to the layman, or the ones in the pew, the men and start something that was kind of the genesis of Dan Ryland's vision of J-Men and goodness, now for 30,.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, it's more than that 30-plus years now J-Men have been going on, and it is a curriculum that you have to do. A couple things One is obviously you have to attend a kickoff conference which you're in a small group, roughly between six to eight dudes, and then from there you get to kind of unpack your testimony, unpack some struggles that you have really kind of allow the group to get to know you, and you've got like a whole 45 minutes to an hour to share that. So it's pretty, pretty intense, One of the things. The other thing it does is you have to read a book, a book every month. So right now, at the time of this recording, last month, in the month of January, I read the Five Levels of Leadership by John Maxwell this one I'm reading now, the Celebrations of Discipline, which so far has been a really good book. I'm only about barely a quarter of the way into the book, and it's been a really good book. I'm only about barely a quarter of the way into the book, and it's been a really good book.
Speaker 2:Well, you also have an assignment, okay, and you have a project. So you have an assignment. You have to create some, finish some worksheets, answer some questions about the book and also just some things that happened that month, and then you have an assignment. So this, this, actually this month, the month of February, one of the assignments is that we will go on all my group that I'm a part of, we'll go on a three-day water fast. Now, granted, I've never done a water fast, so this will actually be a new thing for me. I've gone on a fast, I've gone on plenty of fasts, whether it be a Daniel fast or you know some other kind of fast I might do, but I've really never done a three-day fast. I know I've done a water fast before, but it might've been only just for a day. But what I'm excited about this is because obviously this is again part of the curriculum assignment and so forth.
Speaker 2:Well then, move through the year. You know you're going to meet up with your group as well once a month, and that time is going to be at least about a minimum of three hours, four hours that you're going to be with your group and you know, unpack the book, unpack the assignment, talk about what God's doing in your life at that time. So it's really intense. This goes for a whole entire year and one of the things that struck me with this J-Men was this right here as you guys know, one of my you know really my kind of my mission statement or my vision statement for my life that I've really nestled in on is helping men maximize their potential for the kingdom of God. If you asked, tyler woke me up in the middle of the night. That would be what I would say helping men. And so this whole Jamin thing just is something I'm really super excited about because this is going to, I feel like, or at least where I'm, where I sense Holy Spirit taking me, is where that. You know I'll be able to take this back to my own church and my own group of guys that are part of that church and us be able to do J-Men or some version of that there. And you know you might sit there. Some people might sit there and say, well, tyler, why do you feel like that? You know men need this. You know what's the whole purpose of this whole thing right here?
Speaker 2:Well, in a very simplistic way, this question got asked, which I thought was just a series of questions. Okay, a series of questions got asked to our group. There was about 70 of us 80 of us maybe inside the kickoff of this retreat and one of the gentlemen just asked the questions. He said hey, listen, do you believe that, as a father, you need to be the leader of your children? And every hand went up. And then he said, hey, tell me this, do you feel like, as a husband, do you need to be the leader of your household, leader of your marriage? And every hand goes up. And then he says, hey, do you feel like you need to be a leader within your career, career around your job or at your business? And every hand goes up. And then he says this question. Then he says tell me the last time that you went for through a year-long leadership course to develop your leadership, and pretty much no one's hand went up. And, gang, I pose that same question to you guys when was the last time that you actually immersed yourself? Because I do believe this statement is a true statement because I've seen it happen so much. Statement is a true statement because I've seen it happen so much.
Speaker 2:John Maxwell says everything with the success of an organization, the success of a family, the success of your marriage, the success of any endeavor rises and falls on. Leadership Rises and falls on leadership. The success of that rises and falls on the leadership, not just the leader, but the leadership. Okay, there's a difference, so with what basically takes place or what happens to men. Is the enemy the enemy? The scripture verse that I just read. Men have a tendency to want to go and isolate themselves, want to go and just not open up, not get real with anybody.
Speaker 2:One of the questions that were posed actually at this conference was this right here Do you have at least one guy, one man, that knows pretty much everything about you, that knows pretty much everything about you? Do you have at least one guy, one dude, that knows everything? I'm talking like some of the deep, dark secrets, some of the things that you don't want to talk about, how much time that you're, you know, spending in the Word. Just do they know you? And I can say that I've got one gentleman, one gentleman that definitely knows me. You know pretty well. I probably need to get a little more consistent with this guy, but this dude knows me pretty, pretty well and I praise God he came into my life several years ago. But before that, before that, I really did not have a gentleman that knew me through and through. Yeah, you might say well, my wife knows me, that's.
Speaker 2:I think that's great that your wife knows you, but you'll have to say, man of God, that there's just things that you probably haven't told your wife, or you probably would never tell your wife, and on top of that and on top of that you wouldn't feel comfortable telling your wife and where that you know, that only a dude, another guy, would really kind of at least understand your thought process or what, what you're doing or why you're doing things, because God made us different guys. I know that in the past our society wants us to think that men and women are equal and all this kind of stuff.
Speaker 2:But that's so far from the truth. He made us different and because he's made us different, you've got to find somebody that is that knows that and that knows about you and for me, for me, once I found a gentleman that I that has kind of become that to me is his name, sean, and Sean, you know, really kind of he actually kind of inserted himself into my life and I really was uncomfortable a lot with this. But Sean, basically he became that person and I'm very grateful for him. And there's actually another gentleman that's now emerging in my life where I feel like that this gentleman might be also another guy that might be the same thing. So I, I want to challenge you, challenge you with who is a dude, at least one guy that knows you through and through. If there's anything you got out of this episode right here, it is that Challenge you who is a guy that knows you through and through, because vulnerability and becoming authentic as a man of God is something we need as brothers in the Lord. And the last thing I'll challenge you on is when was the last time you actually went through any kind of spiritual leadership, any kind of spiritual leadership course or development where it was on purpose that you were going to be studying the facets of leadership for an extended period of time, not just where you like read one book and say, man, that was a great book on leadership and I'm glad I read that book. No, it's got to be something where that you know like a course typically will last you at least a couple months I'd say at least a minimum three months but where that you're getting immersed into a certain subject or into a certain thing that you need help with.
Speaker 2:Kingdom Susquehanna, guys, I love you. Help with Kingdom says guys, I love you, I love you enough to share with you that. This is where I'm at, this is what I'm learning, this is what I'm growing from. I challenge you that you would actually be the same, that you would actually reach out and find a guy or at least ask the Lord. Ask the Lord to bring a gentleman your way. Bring another guy. That's a godly guy. Those guys have changed for me.
Speaker 2:I remember a gentleman that was that guy for me for about two years. His name was Randy. He was that guy for me, and then I probably had another guy that became that guy for me for about five or six years. And then there was a period of time, just again being transparent. There was a period of time at least maybe five, six, seven years where I did not have that guy and I I knew that something was amiss. I couldn't tell it, but I was no. I knew I was isolating myself and it was not with good sound wisdom either, okay, not good sound wisdom.
Speaker 2:So my recommendation, guys, is that you find somebody and you start thinking through man, how can I develop my spiritual leadership? All right, and maybe down the road, whenever I get done with this jaymen thing, maybe we might actually do something. I tried doing something, actually, goodness, a long time ago, and it just didn't go very well. At least I didn't feel like it went well. I didn't have curriculum, I didn't know what to talk about, I just didn't. Jamin's actually free, joshua Min is free, you can go to JoshuaMinorg or something like that, I don't know, and all the resources are right there on there. It's all free. So, kingdom of Success, I want to leave you with that. I love you guys. Know that you're blessed, you're highly favored, you're empowered to prosper. You walk in divine health. The spirit of breakthrough is upon you, guys and gang, we'll catch you on the other side.
