KS 418 - From Building Businesses to Building Cities: How Faithful Marketplace Christians Receive Greater Responsibilities

Tyler H. McCart: Christian | Leadership | Business | Sales | Coach Season 12 Episode 10

Send us a text

God is looking for marketplace Christians who understand the power of partnership. Are you ready to expand your vision beyond your business?

The Parable of the Minas in Luke 19 offers profound insights that most churches rarely address. Unlike the more commonly taught Parable of the Talents, here every servant receives exactly the same amount—one mina—and something fascinating happens with those who prove faithful. Their reward isn't more money or a simple "well done." Instead, they receive authority over cities.

This spiritual principle reveals how God expands the influence of those who demonstrate faithfulness in business matters. We see the natural progression: faithful stewardship in business leads to community impact, which opens doors to city-level influence. The currency of the Kingdom isn't just financial success but expanded responsibility.

Through powerful real-world examples—from a 21-year-old hotel manager whose faithfulness earned him significant responsibility to business leaders whose community involvement saved libraries and shaped town centers—we discover that marketplace ministry extends far beyond profit margins. Your business acumen, when submitted to God's purposes, becomes a launch pad for community transformation.

Most Christian entrepreneurs think too small, focusing only on how their business can fund ministry rather than seeing their business AS ministry. When we break down the false separation between "spiritual" and "financial" realms, we position ourselves to create generational impact through our families and far-reaching influence through our communities.

Ready to stop treating your faith and business as separate silos? Want to explore how your marketplace calling might be preparing you for greater Kingdom impact? This episode challenges you to raise your vision from making "baby minas" to influencing cities. The question isn't whether God wants to use you beyond your business—it's whether you're ready to partner with Him when He does.

Speaker 2:

What's going on? Kingdom Success List. This is Tyler McHart coming at you, episode 218,. I believe we're on, or, excuse me, 418. Wow, 418. Wow, I'm stuck in the 200s. Welcome out. Definitely excited to be able to do this episode with you and thank you so much for tuning in and actually listening. And today I'll be honest with you guys. Today I just there's a lot of things that are going bouncing around in my head and my heart and I was sitting there just kind of talking to the Holy Spirit and like Lord, I should talk about this, I should talk about that. And the Holy Spirit just said, tyler, you just need to hit record. And so I am hitting the record button and just going to talk with you guys and this is kind of just the way it is with me.

Speaker 2:

So if you've ever been with me for the length of time, you know this podcast, mainly because just my audience is geared towards men, one of my kind of passion statements right now, this juncture in my life. I've always had the vision statement for my life of passion for Jesus, compassion for people. Well, that passion for Jesus has never ceased and that will always continue to be there.

Speaker 2:

But that compassion for people has changed and ebbed and flowed over the course of several years and I know that over these years that I've been doing, you know, not just this podcast but just living. I've always had this passion to talk to guys, to help men, help godly men, maximize their potential for the kingdom of God. All right, maximize their potential for the kingdom of God. You could say, with the kingdom of God, that would almost be another way to look at that, that. But I feel like that we would see a traumatic change in a lot of areas. We would experience a lot stronger families and where that we'd have stronger families here in this world, we'd have this world. We'd have stronger guess what communities. And then, as we have stronger communities, then we have stronger cities and then we have stronger you know countries and nations. Okay, so that's kind of how all that moves forward in life. And I was speaking with a young lady actually yesterday and she's a fantastic person, godly woman, and she's got several books. I've read a lot of her books. Her most popular book it's called Grace Over Grinds and her name is Shea Bynes. You've probably heard of Shea Bynes if you've been with me for several years and I always like to touch base with Shea and see what she's learning and what she's experiencing out there in the marketplace and what she's seeing.

Speaker 2:

And one of the things that I just really enjoyed what Shay was talking about probably I'm getting out of my truck right now was this whole entire thing about partnering with God and I just really liked how she worded that and how she was talking about that that here on this earth, if you're a child of God, you're obviously a son and daughter and you know with that, you know your Heavenly Father is constantly working with you and you know guiding you along Holy Spirit's guiding you along your everyday life, hopefully, as you're in the Word, spending time in the Word, meditating in the Word and listening to the Holy Spirit, being sensitive, not creating a silo, where that you know, hey, once I close my Bible up or I go punch the time clock with my church attendance, then I go back into the world of whatever I'm doing, it might be your own business or it might be your job and you never really think anything about the Lord anymore.

Speaker 2:

I don't think that's you. If you're actually listening to this podcast and it is you I appreciate you coming along and I hope this actually kind of spurs your, you know, desire thinking Like. You know, man, I really want to go deeper, as the psalm says, as deep calls to deep, you know, mindset is really um, just a, just a fascinating thing to me that people sometimes forget that oh yeah, I'm actually um, helping to further, you know, my father's kingdom, my father's business.

Speaker 2:

Right now, in the Word, in my quiet times, I've actually been meditating and reading. I've probably been reading this same section of scripture, at least good morning, good morning, at least goodness, maybe for the last two weeks, maybe more than that Parable of the Minas which is found in Luke, chapter 19. Good morning, well, the majority of us, the majority of Christians, the majority of churches, they talk about the parable of talents more than they talk about this parable of the minas. Not sure exactly why that is. I know that, goodness, I've been in church ever since I was nine years old, well, not even nine years old, I got saved at nine. But here I was, you know, attending a lot of church events. I've listened to a lot of sermons, I've listened to goodness, I've listened to a lot of youth pastors, youth groups, and I think I've only had, out of all those times, all those sermons that I've listened to, I've only had one gentleman ever talk about or preach on the minas, the parable of the minas. So, anyway, I'm meditating on that, I'm allowing that, reading it, rereading it, reading it in different translations, allowing it to kind of soak into my spiritrenew and retool my soul. And you know what I find interesting about this whole partnering with the Lord in relation to the minas.

Speaker 2:

So as Jesus is sitting there talking, he starts talking about the gentleman going off. He's called away. The nobleman is called away to go take possession of a kingdom that he is receiving. And as he goes out, possession of a kingdom that he is receiving, and as he goes out, he takes ten of his servants and he gives them a mina, which is you know some translations call it, you know $500. Some translations say at that time it was a year's worth of salary. Whatever, it doesn't matter. But what's different about the talents versus this is he gives them the same amount. Like in the talents, it says, hey, I'm giving this to you based upon your abilities. So in in one instance he gives one of his servants I think it's five talents. Another servant, he gives maybe two or three talents, I can't remember. Another servant gets one talent. Well, in this parable here, he actually gives all 10 the same amount, all ten, the same amount, and he tells them to go and do business with what I've given you, and then he leaves and you know it talks about how there are people from the actual neighboring or the country that he's getting ready to receive the kingdom, for that they send envoys that they don't want him to because they hate him or whatever. But then this king, he comes back.

Speaker 2:

The nobleman comes back after receiving his kingdom, so now he's a king and he calls three, not ten, but he just calls three. This is the way the story goes. Calls three of his servants in. Well, the first one comes in and says hey, master, want to let you know that. Good morning, I took the mina that you gave me and now watch this the mina that you gave me made more minas. So the money went out and made more money.

Speaker 2:

And there's another different parallel with the talents. The story in the talents says I took your talent and went to work with it and I created five more talents. Not this way, actually, the mina created more minas. All right, not the servant. So he invested the money and the money created other little baby minas.

Speaker 2:

Well, the nobleman, the king, new king, says hey, well done thou, good and faithful servant. In some translations it says well done, trustworthy and faithful servant. You were faithful in a little. Now I'm going to put you over. 10 cities. 10 cities Much different than the talents.

Speaker 2:

Because the talents says you know, I can't remember exactly what their reward was. Might have been more talents, anyway, or it just might have been just hey, well done, my good and faithful servant. That might have been just hey, well done, my good and faithful servant. That might have been it. But then the next one, next guy comes in good morning. Next one comes in and basically says the same thing the minus made more minus, made more baby minus. And the king says the same thing hey, well, well done, good and faithful servant. Because you've been good with little, I'm going to put you over. I don't know if it was five cities or it was more cities, okay.

Speaker 2:

And then the next servant comes in and says hey, I took your mina because I was afraid and hid it. And then the king says well, you stupid, wicked servant, I can't believe you did that. Could have at least put it in the bank, draw a little more interest, take what is from him, give it to the guy that has more and whatever. Okay. So what have I gotten from all this? What have I been hearing about partnering? Obviously the Lord has given us opportunity, given you resources, given you money, wealth you probably have a job or you have a business and the reward for those that actually take the money and wisely invest it and are faithful with that where it produces more money, you get more responsibility.

Speaker 2:

Your reward is more responsibility. Your reward is more responsibility. And it's a city, and hence the king has now a kingdom to manage and he sends out these faithful, trustworthy servants that have actually been doing the right thing, been faithful. He now puts them over a greater responsibility. Yesterday, I just had a conversation with a young man who's 21 years old. I just met him about three weeks ago.

Speaker 2:

I learned this gentleman his name is Chris that he actually was an intern at Unbridled Wealth and he I'm not sure how he got promoted I probably need to find out the details of that story but the owners of Unbridled the companies but Unbridled is actually a parent company of multiple other companies and umbridal wealth is only one aspect. Well, anyway, chris now actually is being, has been promoted because he was found faithful. He is now the hotel manager of I think it's St Cloud Hotel in Canyon City, Colorado. Yes, a 21-year-old is the hotel manager and today, as I'm recording this, on the Saturday morning, he is actually doing the grand opening for this hotel. How about that? And I've just, in the little bit of time that I've talked to Chris, watched him actually whenever I was at that hotel a couple weeks ago and, as I was talking with him on the phone yesterday, I can already tell that this young man has been found faithful and his reward has been given more responsibility. Obviously, more responsibility means more influence, more recognition, but Chris has been found faithful and I think I might have mentioned this in my last podcast or podcast before about. You know, faithful over successful Faithfulness is an internal thing. It's something that comes from within. It's not an external thing. The external stuff is just the results. You don't have to be concerned about the results, Chris, even though he might not know it, but he actually has been faithful. Therefore, he's been able to be rewarded and now he's in a much larger capacity, and success is just the byproduct of what he's able to do right now, which is awesome.

Speaker 2:

Where I want you guys to get to, or where I feel Holy Spirit kind of talking to me about, is cities, Okay, Cities, and I don't know how I'm going to tie all this together, but I'm just kind of talking and allowing the Holy Spirit to kind of guide my conversation. But as kingdom-minded individuals of you having a job or you having your own business, of you having a job or you having your own business. I feel like that, you having a bigger shift in your mind for your city, your local community, like what the miners had that you've actually been found faithful with, say your job, or say your business, especially your business. Well, what if the Lord is calling you to bigger capacity to impact your city? Now I'm not sitting there saying that you should go into government because, good morning, I'll tell you straight up that that's not how I feel I'm being led. Now, if you feel led to go into business, I mean to go into government, so be it.

Speaker 2:

But yesterday I saw a beautiful and I posted this on LinkedIn. I saw a beautiful kind of trifecta that took place yesterday at a groundbreaking ceremony. Here in the community I live, in, Tequila, they did a groundbreaking ceremony for this new kind of town center that they're constructing right now and it's going to be awesome. It's going to be a great kind of central point for the city of gathering families, of creating relationships, of doing commerce, of, you know, doing all this marketplace stuff in this area at the center of the city. And what was fascinating to me, what I witnessed and they might not have meant for this to happen or they had planned for this to happen, but they did it regardless. So the beginning of the ceremony, the very first thing that they did, was they actually they actually had one of the ceremony and pray for the success of the project and the blessing on the city. Now, isn't that interesting, the first thing they started out with that here, an event for a city here in America, the very first thing they do is to pray, Love that, Love it, To bless the city from a spiritual standpoint. Then they're going to do a prayer the mayor. He gets up and gives his remarks representing the government side of things, and then the gentleman that wrapped up was a gentleman that I'm getting to know. His name is Philip Saxton and for many, many years I'm not sure it might be 20 years, I don't know. I know it's been a long time he's actually started up a kind of a Dekula Business Association where the local business owners can get together, do some networking, talk about issues within the city together, do some networking, talk about issues within the city, and he's actually been able to partner with the city and represent some of those business owners to the city and be on different committees.

Speaker 2:

He was talking about how that in one of his stories that he was sharing. He talked about how that he actually was on the um Gwinnett County library system board or committee or whatever it was, and they were talking about actually shutting down the Dekula library. The reason why they were talking about that is because they thought, hey, all these books are going to go away, we're going to go online. Kids and parents are not going to use the library, they're going to just read online and we have no use. This is a bad use of our resources. Well, Mr Saxon decided no, that's not what we want to do. We don't want to take away this free opportunity that someone can actually come in free and have someone, as a librarian kind of guide them to where different information is. That's free here in America, and he was able to one of the ones to help save the library here in Dekula, and that's just an example of a business owner influencing the community.

Speaker 2:

And here he was getting the honor of speaking and addressing, talking about relationship marketing specifically, which is near and dear to my heart of businesses, people interacting together on a local basis, talking about the different things. Talking about business, talking about the different issues helping the city, all these things that as relationship, things take place and bring everything together. I loved it and then they went and had the ceremony of breaking ground and so I got to sit there as and here. I've been living in this city okay for 10 years and I really do believe that there's just something to having your influence as a business owner and even if you're just, just, you know, an employee of, say, some said corporation, but where that you're involved in the community, even if you're, if you get involved with, say, the local uh, flag football league or the local t-ball league of your city, or where that you might go and attend a chamber event of your local chamber of commerce, or how you actually might, you know, if you feel led to run for a government position.

Speaker 2:

I've got a buddy of mine. His name is Chris Rice. He's actually been on my podcast. He was actually, I think, one of the very first people I interviewed Chris. Now his kids have already graduated high school, but Chris, over the last, you know, seven or eight years, he's now a very influential board member of the school district, Even though Chris has a full-time job over there in Lexington School District in South Carolina. Chris has on the school board and they're now talking to Chris about you know possible bigger influence as far as politics and it's actually awesome to sit there and watch Chris thrive and you know, take a step out and be more focused on a community and influence and impact the community.

Speaker 2:

So this is where I feel this whole minor thing is at, is it's not about you just, you know, making more baby minas? This is where you can take your minas and actually influence a community, an area. I think sometimes, as the internet and what it's done for me, the internet makes me sit there and think too globally, too big in my local area, working with my local area. This is where, at ground zero, this is where boots on the ground really are impacted and kingdom is done. And I mean this upcoming week I have a Zoom call with one of our state representatives. Who she is?

Speaker 2:

Someone actually referred her to me. Another local businessman referred her to me and she's just trying to develop relationships with like-minded people and I'm going to have a call with the state representative and come to find out. It is pretty important that I'm probably doing that because apparently the person that could potentially be running against this person is a Muslim. Now, I'm not against anybody of a different religion, but I don't know whether or not I want that influence. I mean, they might be an awesome man or woman.

Speaker 2:

But as far as representing me, I want to know who's representing me that has the same values, the same principles. We might not agree on everything, but at least, from a spiritual standpoint, keeping them in that same vein. And so, guess what? I don't know where this conversation is going to lead to, no idea. I just know that it probably is going to impact the local community here. I believe that the Lord's opened up a door for for it at least, and we'll see kind of what happens. So, team success. Listener, listen to me. Okay, guys, listen to me.

Speaker 2:

In the next episode I'm going to I'm kind of feel like I'm going to have a. I'm going to kind of feel like I'm going to have a. It's going to be a two-part episode, right, and that title, that episode is kind of going to be inspired by this book I just got done reading called Point man. It's called Start your Own Nation. That's what it's going to probably be called. Start your Own Nation. That's what it's going to probably be called. Start your Own Nation. That'll probably be the next episode, but it's going to be a two-parter. It's going to tie in this vision, I feel like, of what I feel. The Holy Spirit's kind of leading me down with the whole family banking concept and how. That, where my family did a fantastic job on both sides but there was just not a connection. There was not a connection between the two. There was a silo, and I want to break down that silo to where the spiritual meets the financial, where we actually equip families to not just be so focused which is probably the first step of being spiritually grounded in God's Word but to help set up the next generation. It's great to have a great spiritual foundation, but financially you've got to have that as well. It goes hand in hand and I'm I know I'm kind of already starting to go down that path, but that's probably gonna be my next two episodes what all that means. So I'm excited about that, but I'm excited about talking about this in a bigger picture right now. Because guess what, if you focus on your family, like I said before, then guess what your family can impact your local community, your local neighborhood. If you impact your local neighborhood, you impact your local community, and even that trickles all the way up to your local city, to your local state or nation, whatever it is, and guess what? We start impacting the world. So, by the way, just like always.

Speaker 2:

If you're interested, if you want to take a deeper dive with me in this whole entire family banking concept, learn more, get educated more, learn how to integrate all this stuff with your family and create generational wealth, but also generational values, generational family identity, then send me a message, reach out to me, start the journey. I mean, I've got a couple people that are somewhat interested in this, but I haven't really found the person to raise their hand, the first person yet to raise their hand and say Tyler, I want to take this journey with you. Let's do this. I want you to help me, especially if you've got a young family where you're still influencing your kids and they still look to you. Man, it's so important. So keep them in success. Know that you're blessed, you're highly favored, you're empowered to prosper, you walk in divine health. The spirit of breakthrough is on you. The gang will catch you on the other side. Actually, I failed the mission.

Speaker 2:

One other thing Call to action, all right, call to action. Here's my call to action, for you Can't discuss One is I want you to think through how you might be able to get involved with your community. It might be you get on the HOA of your neighborhood. That might be as simple as it gets, but ask the Lord how you might be able to start getting involved with your community. Ask him to reveal things to you for that. Secondly, if you found this episode helpful, I want you to share this with just one person, not ten, not blasting on social media, but just for this long, via text or email. Whatever you want to do for this episode. Long that you said man, hey, I heard this, I thought about you and I think you might want to take a listen, just for it. Long, that's all I'm asking. Okay, again, in the name of success, know that you're blessed, you're highly favored, you're empowered to prosper. You walk in divine health. Spirit will break through on you and gang will catch you on the other side.
