What if your next fast didn’t just change your week but shaped your family line? Tyler opens up about moving from a check‑the‑box approach to faith into a fasted life that reorders love, clarifies calling, and points everything toward legacy. From the first awkward seven‑day attempt to eleven years of 21‑day January fasts, he shares the surprising ways God used hunger to open doors, surface a life word, and move him from crisis management to multi‑generational vision.

We talk about why fasting belongs alongside prayer and generosity as a core Christian practice—and why it’s not about legalism or spiritual theatrics. You’ll hear how a timely book cracked open a deeper love for Jesus, how the word arise reframed a hard season of handling family estates, and why this year’s theme, recover all, lands with courage. The turning point arrives at the gym, headphones on, hearing a chapter called For the Little Ones. That phrase redirects the entire fast: pray not only for personal breakthrough or current kids, but for grandchildren, future spouses, and great‑grandchildren we may never meet.

Scripture stitches this vision together. Deuteronomy calls us to teach and remember. Daniel’s fasted life shows how consecration can ripple across centuries, shaping cultures even without direct descendants. We translate that into practice: pick a sustainable fast, anchor it in Scripture, set a clear timeframe, pray specific generational petitions, and reflect on what God highlights. The goal is a family culture that seeks God first, handles money and calling wisely, and stands unshaken in storms.

If you’ve never fasted, start small and aim honest. If you’re seasoned, widen your target. Ask God for a word for the year, and let that guide your prayers for those yet to come. Subscribe for more faith‑forward conversations, share this with someone who needs a nudge toward legacy, and leave a review to tell us: who will you fast for next?

What's going on, King of Success listeners? And now viewers, yours truly, Tyler McCart, coming at you. Uh, I believe this might be episode 429. Yeah. 429 on the Kingdom Success Audio Podcast. Uh, but for you guys that are brand new, just kind of checking up checking me out on now my YouTube channel, uh, I welcome you out. Thanks for tuning in. If you've been around on the Kingdom Success podcast and have listened to me for now going on, I think it's 12 or 13 years that I've been doing the podcast, I want to help you maximize your God-given potential for the kingdom of God. That that is my sole purpose for this episode and for really for this uh channel. I just wanted to set the precedent for that, is that my again, my main mission is to help you maximize your potential for the kingdom of God. That's that's that's pretty much it for me. And so this episode, I wanted to talk about fasting. Um, I'm actually in the middle of a fast right now. Uh, this is now going on. Goodness, I believe I started fasting maybe 11 years ago. Uh so I attended the church free chapel, and Jensen Franklin is actually our pastor. And every January, uh, for 21 days out of the month of January, we actually do a fast, a corporate fast. Um, and you know, it's varying degrees, and I'm probably going to get into that here in just a second. But uh today I I'm going to talk about a topic, a subject that honestly, it really hit me today and it kind of inspired this episode for me to talk about. And uh that is actually fasting for the little ones. You might not know what fasting is. If you're a born-again child of the Most High God, I can tell you that you probably need to know what fasting is. Um, I can tell you that before I came to Free Chapel, uh, before I came to Free Chapel, I really was never taught about fasting. Fasting was not something that was part of my normal Christian things that I did. You know, I was a tither. I always knew that I needed to give money. I always needed to read my Bible. Um, I knew that I needed to pray. Uh, I knew that uh I probably needed to journal out uh kind of what I felt like God was doing or you know, flesh out some thoughts that God was doing. These are kind of common practices that I did, but it wasn't until I actually came to Free Chapel that I quickly realized that fasting is actually a Christian duty. Yeah. Uh in the book, uh Jensen Franklin talks about his book is called Fasting. And in the book, he talks about uh that Jesus actually, in the Sermon of the Mount, talks about that there are three things that a Christian is kind of expected to do. Um, one is obviously pray, uh, two is to give alms to the poor. And the third one is actually to fast. Now, I never heard that taught in all the many years that I had uh come up as a, you know, goodness, now I'm going on what, 30 years of being, 30 plus years, 35 actually, of being a Christian and all the church services, all the different people, that was not something that was really taught. I'd heard of people fasting, but I had never really experienced that for myself, and really there was never any kind of teaching around it. So I really didn't have a understanding about that. So what I knew is, you know, fasting isn't trying to be legalistic. Okay, fasting is not something that you're, you know, quote unquote supposed to do, or you're gonna burn in hell. No, no, no, no, no. It's not that at all. What fasting does is fasting is some is an opportunity for you to conquer your flesh, aka king stomach, and for you to actually get yourself in line and tune in even more distinctly with what God is doing in your life. Way back in 2015, whenever I started attending Free Chapel, that was my first time that I actually got introduced to fasting. So Amy and I, we actually came to Georgia in February. So we actually missed the 2015 fast. But here we were, we came to Georgia and I started getting around Free Chapel. I started hearing about this whole fasting thing. I started reading some books that uh Pastor Franklin had. And one of those books, the one of the first books I read, was actually his fasting book. And I read it in the month of May. And at that time, when I when I read that book, it really ignited something in me. It really kind of made me say, man, I I've kind of missed something in my Christian walk that can really kind of help me, again, tune in to what God was wanting to do in my life. And so that next month, the month of June, um, I told Amy, I said, Hey, sweetheart, I'm gonna go on a seven-day fast. Um, I think I'm gonna probably do maybe uh a liquid fast for the first couple of days, and then I'm gonna do more of a kind of a Daniel fast from that. Well, I went through that and it it started, you know, it didn't do a whole lot in me. I mean, I I wanted to, because of this new transition of living in Georgia, because I've been living for me personally, I've been actually living in South Carolina for 18 years. And for me living in Georgia, I knew that some things had to change for me, you know, from a physical standpoint, from a financial standpoint. Um, I just needed kind of to get my head wrapped around all the things that are going on because anytime that you move, there's a lot of quote-unquote moving pieces. It just it just happens to be that way. So, what took place, which was very interesting, is the week after I came off that fast, I was attending a business meeting, and the gentleman promoted a book by Francis Chan, and it talked about how that you have got to fall in love, and Jesus relationship and your Heavenly Father's relationship has to be the number one thing. I mean, the tippity top, number one. I mean, there are really second place of anything, which is honestly for me, my wife, is such a far distant uh distance away from being number one, that that book totally just ignited in me this hunger and desire that I needed. And I feel like the that because of that fast, that book entered my life and really kind of amplified in me what I was already craving, what I already needed as a born-again Christian to really reset for me my passion and my desire for my Heavenly Father. And I mean, I'm I'm just even kind of right now getting kind of pretty fired up. So now from that time, so that was 2015. Now I've pretty much been fasting, definitely with uh, you know, Free Chapel, uh during January, every single time we've had a fast. So now that's what, 11 years now? So it's 2026. So now after 11 years, I've been fasting, you know, at least 21 days out of the year for breakthrough for myself, for my finances, for my family, for uh people that might not be saved, that are in my family, or friends that I know that now I believe need to be saved. So I've been fasting for these different individuals all that time. And one of the things I've been doing for the last two years is actually fasting the actual word that I feel like Holy Spirit has given me at the beginning of the year. Like last year in 2025 was a rise. And the reason I I sense Holy Spirit giving me that word was mainly because I at that time I was coming out of really, really about four years of um managing my my family's estate, my dad's estate and my mom's trust with my sisters, and really navigating that whole entire process. And it really was kind of a full-time job because my dad had a lot of complex things that were going on within his trust, within his estate, and things that we needed to navigate and you know, close out, and it was just a big deal. But I felt like at the end of well, the end of 2024, beginning of 2025, I felt Holy Spirit through the book of Joshua that I needed to arise. I needed it basically kind of came down to uh God told telling Joshua, hey, my servant Moses is dead, aka your mom and dad Tyler are passed away. They're with me in heaven. I need you to now arise. And so that's actually what kind of helped me set up 2025. And through that fast, it really opened up a lot of doors for me and revelation that I got, not just from what I thought was the whole family banking uh thing, but really what this whole thing is of the whole legacy piece, the whole thinking multi-generational, instead of just thinking only, hey, what can we do today with the family? So this was just revelation, and I really do believe that I if I hadn't fasted those 21 days in the beginning of the year, that that kind of revelation wouldn't have gotten revealed to me, and those connections that I needed to make wouldn't have been able to set me up for what is now today. And you know, this year, I'm not gonna go into it, but I I feel like 2026 is the word is recover all. And so I'm right now, I'm in my third week of fasting uh in the 21 days, and now I'm kind of coming towards the end of it. But I wanted to, for me, reading the book, fasting again. So this will be the second time that I've read the book Fasting. And the reason we're I'm reading it actually again is because uh I started back up Joshua Min. So I started back up uh Joshua Min. I actually finished that as more of a participant uh with through 12 stone, which Joshua Min, if you don't know, is a fantastic spiritual leadership uh for men uh that have families. And so I've now I've kind of brought that over to Free Chapel, and we're doing a small group uh with that. There's about four of us that are actually going through this whole Joshua Min uh exercise. And the first book we actually are gonna read this month is actually Fasting by Jensen Franklin. Well, here's what took place today. So today I'm I'm at the gym like I normally do. I've got the book on audio, so I'm actually listening to the book. I'm I'm reading it, uh, kind of the highlights that I might have, but I'm listening to the book in the gym. And this this chapter, the title of the chapter is For the Little Ones. That made me stop because I had never really fasted or ever thought about fasting for future generations that were going to come through me. I'd fasted for different things for my children, but I'd never really thought, hey, I need to fast for my grandkids, I need to fast for my children's spouses, I need to fast for my great-grandchildren, I need to fast for those children or those great-great-grandchildren that I will never meet. And so this week, this week, I decided to that I'm gonna kind of take my fast a little bit more in that direction of fasting for the next generation, for those future generations. Because God, here's the thing about family: God is all about future generations, He's all about thinking multi-generational. I mean, I I'm reading through the book, I'm I'm reading through the Bible right now. Um, I'm doing that in about 120 days, is my reading plan. And man, I tell you, I'm right now in the book of Deuteronomy, and man, it is all coming back to teach your children how to obey the Lord. Teach your children, remind your little ones of what you need to have. And this is just a refresher for me that I have to have that. So, Kingdom Success. I mean, I could go off more about you know how Daniel fasted and how he fasted, you know, the quote unquote the Daniel fast, which is a very popular fast, and how that that affected, because Daniel didn't have any children, but Daniel actually affected multi-generations of magi, at least that's what I believe, because they came, whatever, 400, 500 years later to seek Jesus and bring, you know, myrrh, franquisen, and gold to Jesus from the Far East. Where did that come from? It came from Daniel because Daniel lived a fasted life. You can read that in the scripture. So it you're that legacy that that that legacy of Daniel affected that because he had that kind of fasted life that he had. So King of Success. You know, I just wanted to call out to you guys are you fasting just for your own breakthrough? Which, hey, look, if that's your first time fasting and that's what your focus is, I I think that's awesome. I I'm I'm kudos to you. But I would encourage you to actually let's think beyond just your own personal breakthroughs. Let's think beyond you. Let's actually think to people you haven't met yet, the children, the grandchildren, the great-great-grandchildren that you haven't met yet. Because I feel like your obedience today, your obedience today by you actually fasting potentially for your great-great-grandchildren will affect your fame and legacy 150 years from now. Yeah. Think about that. That's pretty powerful. And that's something that you can chew on today. So, Kingdom Success. I'm done. I'd ask for two things from you. Number one, I would ask you to consider fasting. Uh, that'd be the first thing I would ask you not to not to fast for uh a week, not to fast. I would actually maybe consider you picking up this book, Fasting by Jensen Franklin, and uh putting that actually in your uh queue to read and so you can get some knowledge about fasting. And then uh what I would recommend is maybe you share this. Maybe you share this with someone that you might say, hey, they might you know be all about fasting, but maybe they've never fasted for future generations. Um, I think that that is something that I would encourage you to do is fast for future generations if you have the uh capacity to do that during a fast. Gang, I'm done. So know that you're blessed, you're highly favored, you're empowered to prosper, you walk in divine health. The spirit will break through is upon you guys, and gang will catch you on the other side.
