02: Anatomy - Joanne Avison
Joanne Avison is a teacher of applied structural anatomy for movement and manual practitioners. She’s a structural Integration practitioner and a certified teacher in the KMI school of structural Integration (a school created by Tom Myers, author of the now classic fascia anatomy book: “Anatomy Trains”). Joanne is a certified Yoga Therapist and the Director of the Art of Contemporary Yoga Teacher Training.
She has Master’s Degree in Spiritual Sciences which has helped deepen her understanding of yoga and the philosophy behind it, that relates closely to how the physical body integrates and animates form. For Joanne, who appreciates the art, craft and science of yoga and body architecture, the study of philosophy and anatomy are not separate, and this makes up her unique approach to an integrated practice. She is the author of the already seminal book “YOGA.. Fascia Anatomy and Movement” and she is a lovely human being who I am blessed to have on the faculty for my S&F teaching certification course.
