Indie Artist Music Hustle

The Nicki-SZA Feud

Host and Creator: Blonde Intelligence (Ms. Roni) Season 4 Episode 57

Welcome to this week’s Indie Artist Music Hustle with Blonde Intelligence. I am your host Ms. Roni, and I always seek to give you exquisite cranial repertoire. Have you ever wondered what really drives celebrity feuds in the music industry? The recent clash between Nicki Minaj and SZA offers a fascinating case study of how seemingly minor comments can trigger major conflicts when underlying tensions exist.

This episode peels back the layers of the headline-making Twitter tirade, examining not just what happened, but why it happened. Drawing on insights about Sagittarius personality traits, I explore how Nicki's emotional reactions likely stem from feelings of rejection and disrespect after reportedly having a feature request ignored by SZA's team. The subsequent collaboration between SZA and artists Nicki has conflicts with added fuel to an already smoldering situation.

Beyond the immediate drama, we tackle the important question of accountability in the music industry. When artists with massive platforms engage in body-shaming, insults, and degrading comments toward colleagues, where are the repercussions? As the music world watches what some are calling "the fall of Cash Money" with both Nicki and Drake facing parallel controversies, it's worth considering how the industry enables and sometimes rewards toxic behavior rather than professional communication. Even stars in their 30s and 40s can revert to high-school level insults when they feel slighted – but should they be given a pass simply because of their status?

Whether you're fascinated by celebrity culture, interested in how astrology influences behavior (Mercury retrograde, anyone?), or concerned about the broader implications for industry standards, this deep dive offers fresh perspectives on a controversy that reveals much more than meets the eye. Speaker 1:

Music. Welcome to this week's Indie Artist Music Hustle with Blonde Intelligence. I'm your host, ms Ronnie, and I always seek to give you exquisite cranial repertoire. This week I am going to probably talk about what a lot of people are talking about the Nicki Minaj scissor situation. People are talking about the nikki minaj scissor situation. Um, I saw a long tweet that nikki had wrote and she called scissor so many bitches, I swear. I thought that she was too short. She probably needed to pay too short for her tweet.

Speaker 1:

But I listened to several different commentators give their opinion on her behavior and they showed like mashups of things that people had to say and some of the words that described nikki's behavior was unhinged, delusional, inebriated, she's not well, she's body shaming, that she's violent towards women, that she's projecting, that she has lack of respect. And it was some people that said, um, that it was a response to scissor, saying that it was mercury retrograde and that a lot of her fans were saying that scissor shouldn't have said anything. Well, I kind of think that I'm objective because, you know, I don't get too involved in who does what, because I don't know these people, but I would say at what point? Because because a lot of fans was talking about uh, it's time to start calling out her bad behavior. Fans been calling out her bad behavior and I am going to say that it's bad behavior because, um, that's what it is, but there's like now, there has to be some type of repercussion for the bad behavior. So scissZA said something to the effect of is Mercury retrograde? Basically, because this is not verbatim, don't get pulled into the foolishness is what she was saying. And then somebody posted that Google said no, it's not Mercury retrograde, that it don't start until March, the 17th. Now, anybody who studies the esoteric or believe in any parts of it knows that it's a period leading up into the retrograde and then a certain amount of time after the retrograde. Now, retrogrades are not all bad. So I'm going to say that and maybe an ex might come back, or a project that you have shelved, you might think about it and how you can make revisions to it, or you may mend past relationships, but it's kind of like a period of retrospection of things that were not resolved in the past. I'm going to leave it like that. So anybody who understands how retrogrades work and it can be a quarrel sometime too Don't get pulled into it. Keep your distance, let it fly, let it ride, you know, because it can lead to bigger blow ups. So then it brings me to.

Speaker 1:

I watched another commentator say something about when Nikki have these outbursts. That is just not from thin air. It's always based on something. So I have a brother that is a Sagittarius. I know several Sagittarius people and Nikki is a Sagittarius. They are very reckless with their mouths but their feelings are very easy to hurt. They may not cry in front of you, but they're easy to shed those tears.

Speaker 1:

So I think when Nikki has those outbreaks, outbreaks, outbursts, that her feelings is hurt about something. And I know they were saying something on the breakfast club about how she had got done in the industry before. I'm not saying that what she's saying is not true, but when you're hurt or you have want to express it, you cannot go and call people ugly and they seem like dogs and they fat and chubby and skinny at the same time and that you don't have any accolades and don't nobody know who you are and I'm this and I'm that. That right there takes away from the argument. So when she say that, because I was listening to I cannot remember his name. I am so terrible with names, but the guy from TDE that was previously CISAZA's manager I cannot remember his name. I'm sorry, but said that, um, nikki asked for a feature and they never got back to her. Okay, well, get back to her, even if it's to say no, um, but then she goes on to do features with other people that I would say Nikki don't necessarily get along with, but which in business you don't have to. The timer might have been right. So I think that Nikki may have gotten emotional about the fact that I asked you this question and you wouldn't even answer me, but the next time I look up, you're with x, y and z. Okay, in that situation it's like I won't ask you again. I don't have nothing for you again. Bye, instead of going on this long rant and then throwing other people in.

Speaker 1:

And it's like a lot of things that she said about SZA is, in actuality, about herself. So when they say the projection, I can see that, and then I don't understand the comment. That, excuse me. What does it mean? When she said the scissor wanted to fit in in school? You're in your late 30s and 40s and we have graduated from high school 20, 25, 30 years ago. Where the hell is that coming from? And you cannot make somebody that's that age feel bad about, even if they did feel that way in high school. You're grown now. You grow from that, so I just feel like that came from some immaturity. She called the woman stupid and I don't even know your music, but she's credited as a writer on one of the songs you did.

Speaker 1:

So you know, at some point you can separate the person from the artist and love Nicki Minaj. But this Onika person is very sensitive and like to go off on people and I think a lot of it is unwarranted. And the thing is that if a person is telling you don't have to lift a finger For a lot of fingers to point back at you. And a lot of people have been comparing Drake and Nicki Minaj and they call it as the fall of cash money. I don't know about the fall of cash money, but I do feel like that Drake and Nicki are having a lot of parallelism in their actions toward people and they always say that you catch more flies with what is it? Honey? Honey, that means be sweet. Your attitude can change a whole lot of things.

Speaker 1:

And, yeah, maybe the, the, the broken barbie song. These people from td are smart. Nobody can say that they're unintelligent. So I don't know where Nikki got that sizzle was stupid from, but collectively I would say is a set of brilliant minds. So it had to have crossed TDE's mind that because because you cannot just tell me oh, she has a problem and I didn't even know it. Because if Nikki has a problem and I didn't even know it, because if Nikki has a problem, you know it okay. So when you heard the song and you knew that there was no maid could be misconstrued in some type of way and maybe you thought it was just gonna fly and just let the fans talk and maybe you wasn't expecting for her to say something. But she did and it's okay. And it's okay for SZA to say something too.

Speaker 1:

But my question is when is there? When are the repercussions for the bad behavior? Because I do think that Nikki shows a lack of respect for other artists. I don't know what went on with her and Jay-Z and the reason why she's stomping on Roc Nation, but Jay-Z, his ass is a Sagittarius too. I know that much. I know that much. And if y'all are into it, two Sagittarius into it, it can be very fiery. It's going to be fiery and I'm just going to be watching.

Speaker 1:

But I don't like for people to have these moments and then you're not. What is wrong? Tell me what is wrong. Is it that you're mad Because it don't have to be, that you're hurt that you're mad because you asked her a question and she didn't answer you? Let's just stop her right there. Sza, y'all wrong. If somebody asks you a question, no, you don't have to answer. But if it's in business and you want to keep good business relations, hit her back.

Speaker 1:

Sorry, she's not going to be available during this time. These are the time slots's. Um, not going to be available during this time. These are the time slots. You're going to be available. If you can't do it, you have to move on with your project, whatever, and it might just be a coincidence that she worked with the next person, but if you keep doing it, then you know, I don't think it's a coincidence. Sometimes, you know, actions speak louder than words and you can slap a person real hard silently without ever touching them, and I think that's what SZA is doing. So that's all that I have for now. It always be other information that comes out and other people that joins the conversation and other people that have different perspectives. So I'm going to keep watching and remember.
