The untapped opportunity in UK’s energy transition & strategic role for listed funds with FGEN’s Ed Mountney

In the latest episode of Energy Transition Today, we sit down with Ed Mountney, the investment manager of FGEN and director at Foresight Group.

FGEN – formerly JLEN – is among the few UK-listed “energy transition” funds that appears to have navigated the market turbulence over the past couple of years with relative grace to execute a mandate that is largely supported by its shareholders.

Mountney offers a perspective that looks beyond the hype cycle for traditional renewables and argues the case for the less publicised elements of the country’s energy transition.

FGEN wasn’t immune to market trends – in the pasts its diversification strategy included a licensed marijuana farm (story in podcast) – but it appears to differ in its approach to changing market conditions.

Mountney also dispels preconceptions about some established renewables technologies and lays out why popular doesn’t always equate to profitable.
