The Electoral College, Gerrymandering, and Voter Suppression Laws
Jul 08, 2020 Season 1 Episode 2
Julian Hartman-Sigall

For the second episode Julian talks about the many things that seemingly contradict our idea of democracy and how they are unjust. Among these are the structural injustices in the Senate and the electoral college, the practice of gerrymandering, and laws and practices that aim to further disenfranchise historically oppressed groups. Julian breaks down each of these practices and portrays the effects of these unjust policies. Joining the pod is Theodore S. Arrington, whose illustrious career has included: being the head of the Political Science department at UNC, serving as the Chair of the Board of Elections in Charlotte/Mecklenburg, testifying as an expert witness in over 40 voting rights cases, and advising both local governments on redistricting and candidates running for office.
