Bravery is not the absence of fear; it is the willingness to act despite it. You’ve heard that a million times. And so have I. Because it’s the truth.

Every courageous step you take toward authenticity opens new doors and possibilities. Imagine standing at the edge of your comfort zone, heart racing, yet knowing that the most profound growth lies just beyond that threshold. It’s true: all you have ever wished to be is waiting for you on the other side of your greatest fears.

Don't run away from the things that frighten you. Don't run away from the things that scare you. Don't avoid the things that make you feel uncomfortable. You know, what does society, what do most people in business do? They run away from the things that frighten them. I'll put it to you another way. The illusion of safety is always more dangerous than the threat of uncertainty. You know, I was in Switzerland skiing. I love skiing. And I was with my favorite ski instructor. He's from New Zealand. His name is Michel Marchand. And he's really helped me take my skiing to a whole new level. I mean, I still have a long way to go, but he did something that terrified me. You know, I generally ski on smaller mountains and he took me to one of the top mountains inSwitzerland and we went up a tram and then we got on, went on a gondola and we went on to the next level of mountain and he literally took me to the summit of one of these mountains in Switzerland. And I said, you know, you're going to have me ski down this. And he said, yes, Robin, I'm going to have you ski down this. And I got to tell you. My heart was in my mouth. I mean, you talk about facing your fears. I was confronting my greatest fear. I actually, I don' t know if this will make sense to you, but I thought I was gonna get blown off the mountain. And literally, because I was so scared and terrified, I regressed into beginner mode. And that's what often happens is sometimes, you're gonna face your fears or go to your edges and you're gonna go back to being an amateur again. And that's part of the process of mastery. And you know, he saw how terrified I was and Michele told me something I'll never forget. He said, number one, he said, Robin, commit to the mountain. And what he was really saying is this, if I committed to the mountain, I would actually get some edging on my skis. And by committing to the mountain, it would actually be safer. And number two, he said, lean into your fear. And I want you to brain tattoo that so you start thinking about it starting today. Lean into your fear. You see, Sam Kean, the great philosopher, said it well. You are caught by what you are running from. And so that project at work that you've been avoiding because you're scared to do it, that actually is where your potential lies. The difficult relationship, or maybe it's a difficult customer, or maybe in your personal life, that new habit that you've been avoiding because you're afraid of failure, or you're afraid of success, that's the habit I challenge you to start practicing today. Because how do you build bravery? You start doing the things that frighten you. And if every single day you start doing the things that scare you and you get back up and you feel the fear and you keep moving through the fear, eventually over time, over your career, over your life, you will become fearless. I mean, the Japanese proverb says it beautifully, get knocked down seven times, get up eight. And every single time you walk into the fire of what most scares you, you become a better leader, you become a braver human being, you become fearless.
