Brilliant Leaders Are Legacy-Driven
Real leaders pursue a cause that’s larger than themselves. Ego-chasing is a limited game.
In my latest book The Wealth Money Can’t Buy, I share a model that has been transformational for my clients called “The 8 Forms of Wealth.” I believe that while money and financial security is a form of wealth, there are 7 other forms of riches that include personal growth, health and wellness, adventure and curiosity and family plus friends. Without experiencing all of these we miss out on knowing our richest life. Go ahead and read it here.
When I was growing up, my dad said, Robin, when you were born, you cried while the world rejoiced. He said, son, live your life in such a way that when you die, the world cries while you rejoice. And as I was growing up and into my teens and even into my twenties and even now, when I chat with my dad, he always talks about the importance of making sure you're helpful, thinking about others. He was a family doctor serving his community for 50. for years. When my dad finally retired in his 80s, I said, Dad, why did it take you so long to retire? And he said, son, because my patients needed me. Our world celebrates the financial titans, but it doesn't celebrate the servant leaders. What a world we live in. We celebrate the billionaire, but we don't celebrate the firefighter or the teacher. working with limited resources, helping children become their greatest selves. When was the last time you heard? We have an icon on the podcast today. I'm so happy. It's a gardener who keeps their neighborhood pristine with beautiful flowers. Being helpful, being useful, being of service, not only in your work by pushing your craft and your magic, out into the world and a world that really needs to see more magic. But being of service to your family, to your friends, to your neighbors, to citizens of your nation, to Mother Earth, just being the kind of leader without a title who makes contribution one of your biggest priorities will give you a form of wealth that money can't buy. Because not only are you doing good for other people, but your heroic self, that conscience within us, that wisest self, is witnessing every act of goodness you are doing. And great things really do happen to people who do good things. And I really do believe the universe has an amazing accounting system. And so when you do good, not only will you receive great, but also you'll start to build intimacy with great power and you become stronger. and you'll respect yourself more. And respecting yourself will give you even more self-love. And that's good for your health, it's good for your energy, it's good for your confidence, it's good for your creativity, it's good for you getting difficult things done because you say, I'm strong and I'm heroic. And it's heroic people who do heroic things. So keep doing good things for the people around you.
