Hello everyone, it's Frank McGuire. Jeff Matt and Dr. Brother. And this is another episode of Meanwhile Back on the Podcast. On this episode of Meanwhile Back on the Podcast, it's the episode we've all been waiting for. It's a climaxic conclusion to almost empty heroes. And man, do we have a great show for you? Coming up, we'll tell you who turned on the role of Eagle the Planet, who is on the shortlist for Black Panther and Captain Marvel, and as an added bonus, we're gonna tell you about the other is always stunning Philadelphia cast member who is considered for Guardians of the Galaxy. And speaking of Guardians, did you guys know there is a very prominent high-profile Black Doctor that logic in the Nebula? And we all know Vin Diesel is the voice of Group, but that's not the only Marvel world he was considered for. We've got all this and so much more for you on this episode of the back on the podcast. So don't go anywhere. So, like we said at the top, we are giving you the conclusion to almost MCU heroes. This is the conclusion. Now, in addition to the other films that we haven't given you the alternative castings for, we've actually done some more digging and we found some names of some actors that we didn't have a chance, well, that we didn't know about when we first discussed these characters in MCU Almost Heroes Part 2 and Part One. So we're gonna bat a little cleanup here, but I think you're gonna enjoy it because there's some really cool names on here, and I'm sure this is gonna spark a lot of good conversation. But before we jump into that, Taco Jeff, how are you guys doing? I'm good.
SPEAKER_02All right, okay, yeah. Taco, how you doing, buddy? Same old, same old. Just been uh playing a lot of Mortal Kombat, just been killing kicking it, you know. Nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Are you mentally preparing yourself for the release of the movie? Is that what's happening?
SPEAKER_02Uh I am, yeah. As soon as the trailer came out, I realized that uh one of the Mortal Kombat was on sale for like six bucks. So I bought it. Cool. And then after I bought that uh Mortal Kombat X. Oh, nice. So like after I bought that, beat that, I bought the new one. So now I bought both of them and I've just been playing them since.
SPEAKER_01Cool. And Jeff, what have you been getting up to, pal?
SPEAKER_03I've been watching a lot of like more anime recently, catching up on any shows I've been like putting off for a while. Since there's so much time off again, I kind of bit the bullet and resubscribed to World of Warcraft. Same. Going down that rabbit hole.
SPEAKER_01Very cool, man. Very cool. Well, since this is about MCU today, how are you guys feeling about the Falcon and Winter Soldier? Taco, I know you were on one of our episodes for the Falcon and Winter Soldier After Show. Uh, Jeff, I know you were on one of our episodes for the Falcon and Winter Soldier After Show. How are you guys feeling after this last episode? Did you see it? Are you caught up?
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02All I gotta say is the shield is is a mess right now, and it's not a pretty image. It's not the image I like to see.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_02I'm excited to see what's coming.
SPEAKER_01Right. And for all you guys out there listening, we do have a Falcon and Winter Soldier after show that we've been doing now from episode one. And I encourage you all to check it out. In true meanwhile fashion, we do some really deep cuts, really digging into the characters. We try and get into the heads of the writers and the characters to give you guys the most comprehensive recap we possibly can. And I think we do a pretty good job. So I hope you guys will go back and check out those episodes because I definitely think they're worth a listen. All right, well, let's not waste any time here. Let's get into batting cleanup here. So I found out that David DuCovny of the X-Files fame and of Californication was up for the role of Bruce Banner to play the Incredible Hulk.
SPEAKER_03I just don't see it. He seems pretty chilled. He's a pretty chill guy, he's a very chill guy, but I feel like Banner's not a chill guy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's what I mean. Like he's very chill. Yeah, I don't see him getting upset.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't think I've ever really seen him. Actually, in the X-Files, that's not true.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he gets upset in the X-Files a lot, but like not on a level of like, let's rage out.
SPEAKER_01True. And it's almost comical when he gets angry on the X-Files, right? It's almost like you know, on Seinfeld, when Jerry is mocking oh no, sorry, no, it was George mocking Jerry. He's like, you don't get mad. He's like, you just raise your voice, and it almost sounds like you're telling us a joke because we can't we can't take you seriously, right? Yeah, that's that's it's almost like that. Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_03Thankfully, that didn't happen because I cannot see that at all.
SPEAKER_01But I do like DeCovny a lot. Yeah, I think the Covney's a great actor, great actor, but like not for this role. I don't know, man. I think I would love to see that screen test, though. I really think I'd love to see that screen test because I think he's definitely got some banner in him. The way that he brooded in his office as Fox Mulder, like I could see him brooding in his lab too, you know?
SPEAKER_03Like maybe, I don't know. I just I can't picture it for some reason.
SPEAKER_02Okay, all right. He's also like, I don't know, maybe it doesn't matter, but like his physique, I don't really see that as banner either. I guess like I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, physique is one there's nothing really like they train them really well.
SPEAKER_02No, but I'm saying like the Hulk has uh CGI that has their face on it. I don't I can you imagine seeing that big green beastie with David DeCovny's face? I want to have a probably be like, yo, let's just have a drink, man. What's wrong?
SPEAKER_01Actually, I now want an artist to put Dave DeCovny's fame face on the Hulk. Foss Logic, if you hear this, make it happen. Meanwhile, underscore pod. Somebody send it to our Twitter or Instagram. I would love to see David DeCovney's face on the Hulk now. I really would. I really, really would. That'd be hilarious. Okay, let's move on. Um uh Lapita Niango as Nebula. Lapita Niango auditioned for Nebula, and apparently she made such a great impression that they shortlisted her for the Black Panther. I'm not gonna say that's a little racist, you know, they were gonna hold her back until the Black Panther came, but yeah, you know, you can read into that as much as you want. What do you guys think? Lapida Niango is Nebula. Um, I don't see why not. She wouldn't have to like put the bald cap on, right? Like she's rocked that look before, right? It could have been interesting. Plus, I think it would give more of a sibling similarity, like the characteristics. Because Zoe Saldana, she's she's Hispanic and half black, and Lapitanago, she's black.
SPEAKER_03But they're not supposed to be like sisters, sisters, right? So I mean, either way it would have worked, right?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but that could have been cool though. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02One's green and one's blue. So I mean, but that was also mostly robot. True. That would have been cool seeing her have cybernetic too, now that I think about it. The makeup on her, I think, would look cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but you know what? I loved her in Black Panther, so I'm glad they, you know, they waited and gave her the opportunity that she had because she was great in Black Panther. I thought that uh Nakia really uh an interesting dynamic to that movie. So and uh yeah, you know, you gotta have the King of Wakanda with a love interest, right? Oh, for sure. But I'm glad that they didn't play that out, right? It wasn't like all like happy, happy, oh yeah, happy, happy ending at the end, you know. It wasn't cheesy, it wasn't over the top, it was more realistic. It was for sure in line with the character's place in the world, in line with what the character wanted out of their life. They're definitely very well done. Okay, here's one. So this is gonna take us outside of the films a little bit, but technically not. They were gonna cast Vin Diesel as Black Bolt in the Inhuman series.
SPEAKER_02I think that would be like kind of meta because they use his voice for Grood, but they won't use his voice for this character kind of thing, so they can like pull it off.
SPEAKER_01It's like, yeah, listen, Vin Diesel, we want you in Marvel, we just don't want you to say a lot. So we're gonna so we're gonna give yeah we're gonna give you the one character that isn't allowed to speak because he will destroy the world with his voice, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And it'd be funny if they even like the one thing he did say was I am gruth, and that's that's what destroys the whole world.
SPEAKER_01That was Black Bolt. Wow. Honestly, I like the guy that they got to play Blackbolt in that. I haven't watched the whole thing, I just I don't know. I think the sometimes a critic's review can just kind of freeze me in my tracks, and I just don't care anymore. Yeah, and I'd say that that's probably very accurate with the inhumans. I wanted to give it a chance, but I don't know. I just couldn't get over what the critics were saying. Maybe one day I'll go back and I'll check it out. There's some great actors in that, there's some great settings, they really leaned into that kind of Game of Thrones structure where rivaled families and rivaled factions and and all these kind of things. It may be cool to explore one day, but uh but we'll see, I guess.
SPEAKER_03Did either of you guys try and catch that? I saw one episode and I just I couldn't anymore.
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't know. I didn't was it that bad? It was the the the pacing and everything, it just wasn't I don't know. I just there wasn't anything that really drew me to the show.
SPEAKER_01That makes sense. That makes sense. Okay, moving on. I think this one's gonna blow you guys away for sure. I really do. Anthony Mackey was almost cast as the Mandarin in Iron Man 3.
SPEAKER_03That would have been interesting. Like, would he have played like the fake Mandarin or the real Mandarin? I still think it would have been the fake Mandarin. Yeah, and that would have been unfortunate. That would have been a complete waste of him.
SPEAKER_02Maybe that's why they didn't do it.
SPEAKER_01I think that's a part of that story. Like I think that was a part of what's his face's script from day one. Was the Mandarin was gonna be kind of this red herring, this scarecrow. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_03Well then if that happened, that means Michael B. Jordan would have uh been Falcon. Possibly, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think back on that role though, with Ben Kingsley, the things that that character did in the movie, you know, all the little personality quirks he had, and all the little idiosyncrasies, like you know, the hookers and the was he taking drugs too? Like I don't know, yeah. Okay, so hookers, drugs, like the whole nine. I wonder what they would have done with Anthony Mackey if they put him in the Mandarin, like would they have done exactly the same thing?
SPEAKER_02Probably exactly the same thing, but more hookers and more drugs, you know, like make it a bigger party or something, I guess.
SPEAKER_03I think Anthony Mackey was too young to do that. Like, why feel like Ben Kingsley works so well because of age, experience, and just like yeah, he's very commanding in the role, right? Most of the film, everyone was like, Oh shit, this guy's crazy. This is the Mandarin. Until he wasn't, but I don't think Anthony Mackey could have pulled off the same thing, so the same shock and awe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I think that role was really something that Ben Kingsley could really sink his teeth into and was really almost designed for his strengths and for his presence, you know? So yeah.
SPEAKER_03You know who I think could have played it? Malkovich. Malkovich could have done Mandarin.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think Malkovich could have done the Mandarin.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Because he's got that crazy side to him as well, and I think he could have played that whole thing off well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think he could have uh definitely done really well with that. Okay, moving on. Chad McBozeman. Rest in peace, Chad McBozeman. He auditioned for Drax. What do you guys think about that? I don't think he's big enough. I don't think he's big enough.
SPEAKER_03He's like physically in shape and he looks good, but I don't think he's beefy enough.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's not thick enough, right? Yeah, he's not big, stocky. Like I don't think he's that tall either, right?
SPEAKER_03I actually don't know how tall he is, so I'm not sure. I feel like height's not a really issue in movies. I mean, if you can make like six-foot dudes look like hobbits, what does it really matter? Yeah, you can cheat it. Yeah, you can cheat it.
SPEAKER_02I don't even think Dave Batista's that tall. Like, I feel like Gamora's taller than him.
SPEAKER_01You think Gomorrah's taller than Batista?
SPEAKER_02I feel like I remember from from what I'm remembering in the movies. Like, I don't remember him looking like uh a tall dude.
SPEAKER_01How tall is Batista? I think Batista's in the neighborhood of like 6'1, 6'2.
SPEAKER_02Holy shit, he's 6'6, bro. What am I what am I talking about?
SPEAKER_01He's a big man.
SPEAKER_02He's a big dude. Holy shit. Oh, I don't know why I was smoking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just don't see Chadwick Bozeman fitting into that role. Nah. You know, but from what I read though, the casting team, when they first met Chadwick, they were like, that's our Black Panther. Like, he's definitely on our short list for Black Panther. We've definitely gotta talk to this guy about coming back and auditioning for Black Panther. So, yeah. Okay, moving on. Zachary Levi is Star Lord. I can see that.
SPEAKER_03I can see that. He's like the nerdy type.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he can channel the same energy that Chris Pratt can. So I think he could have done it. I think he could have been really great in that role. And honestly, my first picks out of the Star Lords that we discussed on, I think it was MCU Heroes almost MCU Heroes part two, was Aaron Paul and I think Glenn Howerton. I think those were my two picks. I'm almost conflicted now that I know that Zachary Levi was up for this role too.
SPEAKER_02Would you replace Aaron Paul with Zachary?
SPEAKER_01Or I'd probably replace Glenn Howarton with Zachary Levi.
SPEAKER_02I definitely think, yeah, Zachary Levi, he has that clumsy, goofy attitude with him.
SPEAKER_03I could I definitely see him Yeah, after watching him in like Chuck and stuff like that, I think he'd play an awesome Star Lord. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think he could be good. Did you guys watch the last season of Heroes that they did, the reboot, like Heroes Reborn or whatever? Yeah, I did. Yeah, they gave him a pretty serious role in that. Yeah, he's a pretty intense dude. He definitely was not the Zachary Levi that I knew as far as that role goes.
SPEAKER_03No, that was a very serious role.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he was very playing a very serious guy, and I think you know the backstory had something to do with the loss of his kid. I remember that. I think that was part of it. So yeah, they had to obviously play to that tone, but uh, but yeah. Alright, moving on. I got a couple castings here for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man 4 that never happened. So these are interesting. Anne Hathaway was up for the role of Felicia Hardy, the black cat. I don't see it.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_01I think Anne Hathaway's gorgeous. I think she's beautiful and she's super sexy, but she's not Felicia Hardy's black cat sexy. Catwoman, I can buy in Batman. I can't buy her as Felicia Hardy in Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_03No, yeah, no.
SPEAKER_01It just Felicia Hardy has to be a pure blonde, super just voluptuous and great body, amazing curves. That's the prototypical Felicia Hardy. But then again, the Mary Jane that we got in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man universe was not the prototypical Mary Jane. Very true.
SPEAKER_02Right? I think Sam Raimi probably just saw Ann Hathaway in the Catsu, and of course she looks fabulous in the Catsu. So he's like, you know what? I'm gonna put her in the Catsu in that movie.
SPEAKER_03I wanna see Megan Fox in that cat suit.
SPEAKER_01I don't think Megan Fox would be a good Felicia Hardy either. Really? I think she would be. I don't know, man.
SPEAKER_02Who would you think would be a good Felicia Hardy?
SPEAKER_01I'd have to try and like look at the time uh when this movie was in production to consider that. Um yeah, I don't know, man. If it's when I think it is, I'm thinking like Charlie's Theron or somebody along those lines.
SPEAKER_02For Felicia Harding, I don't I'm like trying to think. I can't even think for Felicia Harding. It's uh it's a very specific kind of cast, right?
SPEAKER_01I don't know, maybe Ann Hathaway could have pulled it off. But uh you know what?
SPEAKER_02I hear Jillian Jacobs, maybe. Jillian Jacobs from community.
SPEAKER_01Maybe maybe I think she'd have to bring a little bit of comedy to the role to kind of sell it a little bit, but she's definitely attractive.
SPEAKER_02That's like the first thing my mind went to when I thought about blondes.
SPEAKER_01Interesting, very interesting. Yeah, there's not a lot of like super prolific blonde actresses anymore. It's mostly women that are more like ethnic, like women from the Latinx community or biracial community. It's interesting. There's not really these straightforward, you know, superstar blonde actresses anymore. You guys notice that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I feel like if we did waistwap, I feel like Zoe Sandanda would be a good choice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think she'd be a good black cat. You know, if they were gonna go with like, you know, a Latinx reboot, yeah. I think that could work. Okay, moving on. John Melkovich as the vulture in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4.
SPEAKER_02I can see if he's wearing the I think I said this with the Luke, when I say Luke Hamble, Mark Hamill.
SPEAKER_03Okay. If he was voice acting the vulture, yes. Acting as the vulture, no.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but Adrian Toomb's in in the comic books was always bald and kind of odd and kind of weird, and I think I think Malkovich could do it.
SPEAKER_03I don't think Malkovich could move the way the vulture needs to move, though.
SPEAKER_01Like in in action sequences or like just yeah, okay action sequences. Why? Because of his age?
SPEAKER_03Because of his age. Maybe. If he did this in like the 70s or 80s, then yeah, I can see him doing it, but now like in the 90s, 2000s, I don't think he could do it. I have faith, I think he could do it. I really do. I mean, like, he was in red in red too, and he didn't really move much. He was more of just like the shooting guy, like the planning guy. Right? He didn't really, there wasn't much action. That was all Bruce Willis. That's true.
SPEAKER_02That's true. He played a good crazy guy, so if you maybe they wouldn't make it like uh a crazy vulture.
SPEAKER_03He plays a great crazy person, but that's not a problem. That's why like his personality and voice, I can see it. Himself acting at it at the time, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_01Maybe Bruce Willis could have been a good Adrian Tombs. Uh maybe, but wasn't he doing Unbreakable at that same time? Yeah, no, I'm just kind of spitballing here, though. Yeah, you know, I'm just I'm just saying for the sake of a good fit, maybe Bruce Willis could have been a good fit. Yeah. Um, okay, moving on. Kate Hudson as Mary Jane in Samurai Mee's Spider-Man 4.
SPEAKER_03No, man. Her way too big of a name. It would I it would completely take me out of the movie. Really? And like, yeah, I don't know, man. Like, I when I think Kate Hudson, I think how to lose a guy in ten days or something with McConnell. Yeah, like I don't see her in this.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't really see it, especially for Mary Jane.
SPEAKER_01I think she could have been good as Mary Jane. Well, they'd have to do the redhead thing, man. Honestly, like that has to be a thing with Mary Jane. I get a little annoyed when people want to fuck around with Mary Jane's aesthetic. I think it's already pretty solid, like you don't really need to mess around with it. And obviously, the character is pretty pretty prominent in the Spider-Man universe. She's she's a love interest of Peter Parker, she's the love interest of Spider-Man. So I can see why people would be calling for things like more representation or somebody of color to be in that role. And necessarily, I don't think that Zendaya, you know, she's called MJ, but I don't think she's Mary Jane Watson. I don't know why everybody thinks that she's Mary Jane Watson because she's not, she's just a girl named MJ. And I think what we'll see as the Spider-Man franchise progress is we will see somebody be cast as Mary Jane Watson. I do think that is something that is gonna happen. But I gotta applaud the creative team on that Spider-Man franchise for kind of fucking with everybody's head like that. Like, oh yeah, we're gonna bring in Zandaya and we're gonna name her MJ. That got everybody's hackles up pretty quick. Cool. Okay. So back to Mary Jane. I would think that they would definitely get Kate Hudson, hopefully, with the red hair. And I think Kate Hudson could pull off red hair when I think about her. Like, like if I pitch her on my head, I think she could pull it off. I don't know. Speaking of redheads, Lindsay Lohan is Maria Hill. To me, anyone can play Maria Hill. Yeah, but I want her to be more in line with what we got in the comic books. That's true. That's true. The short cropped hair, you know, a woman of color. I think that would have been really cool. But I do like Colby Smalders in the role. I really do. Don't think she's got to do much. I really don't think she's been that critical in any of the stories as of yet.
SPEAKER_03No, it doesn't really play any pivotal roles of anything yet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And we know she's back, obviously, but we haven't seen anything of her in the new franchises at all yet. Or the new Disney Plus series or any of that.
SPEAKER_03So I feel like it's so weird. Like we see so little of Sharon Carter. We see her in like what two movies in like the MCU. Yep. And not including what the Disney Plus stuff. And she's been more memorable than Maria Hill to me.
SPEAKER_01I agree. She's definitely been more memorable, but she's also kissed Captain America. And that's true. She's been in some pretty heavy action scenes with uh the Winter Soldier and Iron Man and Black Widow. And she played a pretty pivotal role in Civil War. So it's true. It's true. Okay. Mel Gibson as Odin for the Thor series. I could see this. Honestly, I could see it. I can't. Yeah, I know. I definitely can. He would more or less bring to life a lot of the characters that he's already brought to life.
SPEAKER_03You know, it'd be I feel like he'd be like kind of more like a darker, like twisted Odin, though. I don't know why. I just see him as more brooding and I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, I really think that there's no replacement for Anthony Hopkins. I love Anthony Hopkins as Odin, but I think Mel Gibson could get pretty close to changing my mind on that. If I got to see him in that role and got to see what he could do with it, I think I'd be pretty impressed with it. I really do.
SPEAKER_02I feel like I could see it, but I also feel like I could see it as like a parody as too. Like I feel like he'd be a funnier one as well. And I also feel like uh just throwing his out there because I feel like Mel Gibson in his movies is always finding the English. So I'm wondering if in this movie would he just try finding an excuse to like, you know what? We should fight the English in this movie, right? He was in the movie. I could just see it happening. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Too funny.
SPEAKER_02I can't take him serious anymore.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I love this one. I love this one so much. Danny DeVito was considered for Rocket Raccoon.
SPEAKER_03This would be funny. I I I could enjoy that. It would be great. He'd be definitely a more senile Rocket Raccoon, and I think it'd be hilarious.
SPEAKER_01I don't think senility would have to be a thing. I think Danny DeVito can actually sound pretty young if he really wants to.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And he's like he's very creative the way he talks and acts, too. So I think it'd bring something different and some fun to Rocket Raccoon for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think he could have been great. I really do. I think he could hit the same notes as like Bradley Cooper did with that same kind of like energy.
SPEAKER_03He barely notices Bradley Cooper most of the time, anyways. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01My only hope is that they would bring in some Frank Reynolds jokes from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you know, the rum ham or something along those lines, like the the fucking dick towel. There's so many cool things that they could do, you know, to kind of hybridize Frank Reynolds into Rocket Raccoon. I can see it, I can see it, and I think it would have been hilarious. And I definitely think Rocket could have been a much bigger character if somebody like Danny DeVito was behind him. I don't know. That's my take. I think he would have been funnier. I don't find him all that funny, to be honest with you. Rocket Raccoon. I don't think he's cartoonish enough. Like he needs to be a lot more cartoonish. When you see when you see Rocket Raccoon. Yes. But also when you see him in the animated series, his voice is very animated. It's very, it's very cartoonish. Bradley Cooper almost plays him like you know, he's a guy from New Jersey. It's just this regional delivery, this regional accent. Like, okay, you know, cool, that's fine.
SPEAKER_03If you really take it, he's almost like a smaller Drax who also takes everything at literal, yeah, at face value.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's cynical and he's you know, he's certainly damaged and traumatized and a whole bunch of things, but I really think that Danny DeVito could have brought a whole new level of comedic value to this particular character. I think that could have been really, really cool.
SPEAKER_03And I kind of hope now one day that we get to hear Danny DeVito play Rock a raccoon, whether it be a TV show or whatever it is. Ah, man, that'd be hilarious.
SPEAKER_01That'd be so dope, man. I would really, really love that. That'd be awesome. That'd be awesome. Okay, so I'm pretty sure we left off at Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Because I think in episode two, the last thing we unpacked was the Doctor Strange franchise. So there's not really a long list for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I went digging, I wanted to see if anybody else was up for the role of Mantis. Uh, not that I don't love Palm Clemente, because I do, she's gorgeous. When you see her in that Black Mirror episode with Anthony Mackey, holy shit, just insane.
SPEAKER_03She's also in the most recent uh Melissa McCarthy movie Thunder Force on Netflix. It's pretty funny. She plays like um a bad guy called Laser. Oh, yeah. She obviously shoots lasers, but she's it her character kills me. It's pretty funny.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_03Is that movie actually worth watching? It's stupid comedy. If you're like down for something just so mindless and funny, then it's worth a watch. It's like one of those like you just really don't want to think, but you want something on, it's it's good.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Yeah. All right. Well, you heard it here, folks. Jeff is somewhat given an endorsement for Thunder Force. Yeah, so I couldn't find anybody other than Ego the Planet, Peter Quill's father. The only alternative casting choice for that role was Matthew McConaughey, and he declined the role. He declined the role. And honestly, you know, as much as I loved Kurt Russell in that role, and and you know, I think he brought a lot to it, and he did a great job. And I do like, I just like Kurt Russell as an actor, just generally. I thought he was amazing in the Hateful Eight. I love Big Trouble in Little China. There's so many roles that I love Kurt Russell in, but I think McConaughey could have been really cool in this role.
SPEAKER_03He's really got that commanding aura and like that that ego that ego needs.
SPEAKER_01The swagger, he's got that swagger, you know. Like I think back to his role in the dark tower, which I think was around the same time as Guardians 2. I think that's yeah the role that he took when he declined Guardians 2. But when I think back to Dark Tower, like he was just omnipotent, you know, presence, and and you just felt him everywhere, you know what I mean? Like he's just he was so oh for sure.
SPEAKER_03Honestly, he would have been a great actor. It's kind of sad that he turned it down. He would have been awesome in that role.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I definitely think he would have been a good ego. It's it's funny you bring the dark tower up because I remember when me and my buddies watched that movie, we literally went out to theaters and were just like, Don't breathe, stop breathing. Because like that's what Matthew McGonhe did in the movie, because it was just so funny the way he did it. It was just like stop breathing. It's just like, oh, the person's just like stop breathing, it's free. Oh, I like him, I can see it.
SPEAKER_01Can I think back to some of his other rules too? You like, you know, Woodson wasn't exactly, you know, he had his own omnipotence, he had his own wisdom. Woodson had his own thing going on, but uh, I really think that I really think McConaughey could have brought something cool to this role. I really think it could have been, and plus, like, if he played it with a southern drawl, I I think I just would have liked it even more. Plus, he would have been more believable as you know, being from Missouri, because that's apparently where Star Lord's from. He, you know, he's from Missouri.
SPEAKER_02I wonder, I would wonder if uh Matthew McConaughey played eagle, if he would be in the suit, because he looks real good at the suit.
SPEAKER_01And I'm thinking about you know when they superimposed you know Kurt Russell's face on the planet when you like at the end during the final battle. I'm trying to picture Matthew McConaughey's face on that planet, and I don't know, it's not it's not translating for me. Is it translating for you guys?
SPEAKER_03No, that part that'd be weird.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like I'd almost be waiting the for the planet to say, alright, all right, alright, you know. Interesting choice, but uh, I'm glad that they ended up going with Girl Russell, or I'm glad that he declined the role. And hopefully, I'd like to see him come into the MCU at some point, you know. The one role that I think he could seamlessly fit into is the sentry. I think he'd be a great sentry. If they made the sentry around McConaughey's age, he'd do a great job. If they had to go younger, maybe he could pull it off. But I'd really love to see him potentially play the sentry at some point. You know who else would be a great sentry? Charlie Hunnam. Charlie Hunnam would be a great sentry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I can see that for sure.
SPEAKER_01Because like you could give him the Jax hair, right? You give him the Jax shoulder length hair, you know, before he cuts it for like, was it season two or season three? Until you know, when he goes with the short spike or whatever. But like you give him like that shorter length hair, and he would look like he would have that sentry look for sure. I think that would be uh I think that'd be pretty badass. Anyways, moving on. So uh Spider-Man Homecoming is the next one up. And I'm so excited to talk about this guy because every role that this dude does is just mind-blowing, it's just transformative, he just becomes these people. He's probably one of the most accomplished actors in the world, Gary Oldman. And he was potentially uh up for playing the vulture in Spider-Man Homecoming. And uh when I think about the way that Keaton played the vulture, like his his presence and his energy, and the way that he communicated with people, especially people that like Peter and his underlings, and Oldman would do it way different, but it would be much more terrifying. Like it would be way more terrifying because like you think back to Oldman's roles in the fifth element, you think about his roles in the professional, just an incredible actor, just an incredible, incredible actor, and I think he could have brought so much weight to this role. Jeff, I know you're a Gary Oldman fan. What do you think?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, 100%. I think he would have killed the role. He would have been he would have brought a weird, like a crazy psycho presence to the role.
SPEAKER_01Yes, a quiet psychopathy, a quiet, yeah, just crazy to the role. It wouldn't even be like I'm angry. It would just almost be like I'm so quiet, you should be fucking terrified, right? And it would be like this under, you know, it would be like under delivery of the things that he'd be saying to Peter. Like it'd almost feel like it was what he was saying is benign, but you'd kind of have to read between the lines, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_02100%, yeah. Gary Oldman. I could ex everything you guys pretty much said, but uh yeah, yeah, no, like he's definitely in the bath for it. I could definitely see him. He has the theatrics for it, definitely his psychopath. Imagine him. It's another thing too. Like, you can't you can't have he's not gonna be Gary Oldman, like, because his face, like for me, if he if he doesn't transform into the role, I'm just gonna see Commissioner Gordon. Because it's just he's like face, like you know, like and when I've seen him, I think what was the other movie, War of Man of the Apes. And I saw him in that movie, I'm like, oh my god, Commissioner Gordon is like fighting monkeys, not right. So I feel like he definitely has to like I mean, sorry, not monkeys, apes, but he has to like uh I could definitely see him like shaving his head with like a goal T kind of thing, and like definitely I could definitely see him committing to that role, like taking it over.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know what? Gary could have pulled off this tombs look, he could have pulled off the shaved head. He totally could have done it, and he could have looked like a scientist for sure, for sure. But I do like the way that they went with this, you know, with this Adrian Tombs in Homecoming, you know, tying it to the bigger world of Marvel, making him this this contractor who gets fucked over and is just looking for a way to kind of balance the scales, you know. I really thought that that was a really cool storyline to explore.
SPEAKER_02I thought Keaton was the role for that too, because he played a very good like father and everyday man, right? Like he did like that scene, most of the scenes he was in. Like he I don't think yeah, Gary Oldman wasn't maybe he could have done it, but like I said, like you can't use Gary Oldman, they can't waste Gary Oldman like that. Like he like either he commits or he doesn't, right?
SPEAKER_03For sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03There's no half-assing with Gary Oldman.
SPEAKER_01No, no, definitely not. No half-assing for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and uh Frank, you actually got the name of that movie. Which one actually called Air Force One?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. Yeah, I said Air Force One.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I thought you said that movie when they were on Air Force One. I'm like, no, that's the name of the movie, too, man.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, no. I was saying I couldn't remember the name of the character. I couldn't remember the name of the character. He was like a Russian guy, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He was he was a Russian terrorist, and he did say his name.
SPEAKER_03It was uh Ivan. Ivan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but what was his last name?
SPEAKER_03Uh Korshinov.
SPEAKER_01No, come on, you're fucking totally just spitballing.
SPEAKER_03No, seriously, Ivan Korshinov.
SPEAKER_01Was it? Yeah, it's a horrible last name. Fucking shit, dude. That is so shitty. Oh well, what can you do? Okay, cool. So the other person that was up for the role of the vulture, or that was trying to get the role of the vulture was Mark Hamill. Mark Hamill was trying to get the role, and honestly, physically, just him as uh as he is, I just don't see him fitting into that role. I just no you know, I think he's too he's too bulky, you know, he's definitely a little bit beyond the age that I think would make sense.
SPEAKER_03There would need to be CG for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, definitely have to be CG'd a bit. I don't think he could physically play the role. I just I just don't see it. You know, I think animated-wise, he could lend a cool voice to it, but that's about it. Just turn it into the Joker. Yeah, yeah, probably. Yeah, probably, yeah. It would be more like his appearance on you know in the Aeroverse.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when he plays the trickster, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But then again, the trickster predates the Joker as far as TV goes, because the trickster appeared in the Flash series with John Wesley Ship when John Wesley Ship was playing the Flash. They have that series now available, I think, on HBO Max and a bunch of other Warner Brothers sites and stuff. And honestly, I don't see myself going back to watch that, but I gotta say, I loved the costume in that series, and I thought that John Wesley Ship made a great Barry Allen, it really did, like he was a good fit for Barry Allen. So the only other role that had other considerations was Liz. I can't remember Liz's last name, but Liz, the love interest, people considered uh Jane Levy and Kaya Scodolario. Now I'm looking at Jane Levy. Jane Levy is definitely a Mary Jane Watson type. If you guys look at Jane Levy, she's a very Mary Jane Watson type. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Kaya was actually in um the maze runner.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Interesting.
SPEAKER_03She plays um Teresa and the Maze Runner.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. And she's got kind of a Mary Jane look to her, too, a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, a little bit, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But like a little darker, like a little, yeah, yeah, a little darker. But um, I like Laura Harrier as Liz. I thought she did a great job, and she's super attractive. And she definitely made a good love interest. So moving on, let's jump into Thor Ragnarok. So there's only one role that had alternative options, and that is Hella. So we know Kate Blanchette as Hella, who did an incredible job. Kate Blanchett's amazing, amazing, and I have this very weird attraction to her that I cannot explain. I think that might be part of it, but like just her physical look, too, the way that she carried herself in Oceans 8 and the way that she dressed in just her energy. I found that so hot. I just thought she was very, very hot in that movie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she's definitely a badass for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's definitely a badass. But if I try and compare her to another woman that I'm attracted to, I can't do it. Like, that's not my physical taste. Kate Blanchette is not my physical taste, but I am attracted to Kate Blanchette, especially in Oceans 8. I think she's very, very attractive. But yeah, so Charlie's Theron was an alternative for the role of Hella.
SPEAKER_03She could have pulled it off as well.
SPEAKER_01Yep. I think she could have dialed into what she did for Snow White and the Huntsman when she played the evil queen and she killed that role. Like, I thought she was great in that. I think she can tap into some very dark shit. You know, I think she's one of these people that they can really really find the range to explore these characters that have these multi-dimensions, you know. I honestly think too, she could have done the humor as well.
SPEAKER_03She also played in the movie Monster, where she was like a serial killer. So well, that too. So I mean she's got the crazy down.
SPEAKER_01But I think the most important thing in the hella role for anybody else was going to be able to play up to Taika Watiti's comedy as well, which Kate Blanchette killed. Oh, yeah, she killed it, you know. She was this very kind of like super sexy Monty Python-esque kind of delivery, you know. And I think Charlie Steron could have done it as well.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think she would have done the role well. I have no issues or qualms with her if she was casted instead of Kate Blanchett.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I feel the same way as well. Um I just feel um I think Charlie Steron is American too, right? So I don't know, maybe she could have pulled off the the English accent, maybe, because I think Kate uh Kate Batch probably did a better one. Maybe that's why they went with her. I think that's probably like the minute details you can go with when it's that close, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So the next one up is Black Panther. Now, I'm gonna try and split this into two because I want to talk about what Wesley Snipes was trying to do with Black Panther before Marvel Studios did their Black Panther. Wesley Snipes wanted to do like a coming to America kind of version of Black Panther. He wanted to play T'Challa, he wanted to be very cultural, he wanted to be very accurate, he wanted to be like he really wanted to do the Black Panther movie back in the I think it was the 90s or early 2000s, somewhere around the time where he was considering you know his role for Blade and all that. And honestly, I think he could have killed it. I think he could have done a really cool Black Panther movie, and he was one of these guys, like at that time, he was the super high profile action star. He was one of the few action stars that had some dramatic credits under his belt, too, you know, and he was great. Like, did he win an award for White Man Can't Jump? I thought he did.
SPEAKER_03I don't remember.
SPEAKER_01I can't remember, but he was an accomplished actor, he was very, very talented, and he was this super amazing action star, you know, this guy that knew martial arts and you know could do his own stunts and all kinds of crazy shit. I think he really could have done a really cool Black Panther movie.
SPEAKER_03I think it would have been like a more serious and like darker tone, though, for sure.
SPEAKER_01No, it would have been more serious and definitely more darker. Yeah. Like if I think about the landscape, there was a lot of black directed movies and black produced movies coming out at that time. And most people will probably not remember this, but the comedian Robert Townsend made a black superhero film called Meteor Man, and it was an all-African-American cast. The entire cast was African American, pretty much predominantly African American, and it featured like Big Daddy Kane, ABC, the RB group. I think Chriss Cross was in it. Like there were so many like musical actors. Eddie Griffin was in it, James Earl Jones, Danny Glover, Don Cheadle. Don't huge. Yeah, it was huge, and a lot of people forget, but that was the first black superhero film, and it was actually a very uplifting and positive story. And Robert Townsend, he directed it. He I think he wrote it, and I know he produced it. And I really think that that's something that kind of gets lost, you know, is that this movie did exist. It was a comedy slash action superhero thing, but the superhero stuff did, you know, there were some darker elements to it too. There's a point where he's like suffering, like dying from radiation burns and and shit. So definitely wasn't uh it definitely wasn't a nerf film, you know. Maybe one day we should watch that film and do one of our film commentaries for it. I think that'd be fun. But yeah, so getting into Black Panther. So Morris Chestnut was rumored to be up for the lead, and so was Michael Jai White. And earlier incarnation of the film would have been directed by John Singleton, starring Chibatel Egyophor in the lead. And then F. Gary Gray was also in talks to direct at one point. Now, I think John Singleton or F. Gary Gray could have fucking killed the Black Panther film. Like the story would have been insane, it would have been something that's definitely socio-political driven with a very heavy social message, and I think it would have been I think it would have been pretty amazing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'd definitely be interested to have seen that.
SPEAKER_01Which one? Which director?
SPEAKER_03Gary Gray, not like yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think F. Gary Gray could have killed it for sure. Yeah, but I do like this idea of John Singleton and Tuitell Egy of For. Like Tuattel Egyophor, that guy's amazing. I don't see him as T'Chala, but he could, but it'd be definitely like a later time.
SPEAKER_03Like he's been the Black Panther for a while. He's More of like he's seen some shit, and then yeah, it wouldn't be. I don't think he could do an origin story.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I definitely couldn't have done an origin story. Now, now Morris Chestnut and Michael J. White, I think, as far as physical, you know, one-to-one match with what we see in the comic books. I think Michael J. White's pretty there.
SPEAKER_03Michael J. White's pretty close there, yeah. Yeah, honestly, Morse Chestnut's not too far off either.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's not. He's definitely not. But Morris Chestnut looks more American.
SPEAKER_03That's true.
SPEAKER_01He just looks more American. Michael Jai White kind of looks like you know, he could definitely pass for somebody from that part of the world.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Not to say that Morse Chestnut couldn't, but I I don't know. I just I just see Michael Jai White fitting it that much more. And Michael Jai White is this incredible, just like Wesley Snipes, just like Wesley Snipes, he's this incredible action actor that you know knows martial arts, does his own stunts, and takes this shit pretty seriously. Plus, he's not a bad actor. Like when he appeared on the Aeroverse, he did a pretty great job. I thought he was pretty great as Bronze Tiger. So I think he could have done an incredible job with the role.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, I'm thinking Michael J. White, like all the way. Like, I love him. Like he's a pretty good actor. Uh, I just remember recently he was in the dark night. And yeah, no, I just love him too, and especially in the Blood and Bone, I want I think it's something like that. It's a pretty cool movie where he's in prison and he just kicks ass. And that's definitely like I could definitely see him as a Black Panther. Maybe I don't maybe he probably wouldn't do it because it he probably wouldn't want to make it more violent or something like that, right? And maybe doesn't really want to go that route, but I could definitely see him being the one I want. Like, as I could see, I could picture him.
SPEAKER_03I want to see Michael Jai White as spawn.
SPEAKER_01You already saw that.
SPEAKER_03I want to see it again.
SPEAKER_01Like in a new iteration, a new original spawn.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I want him to do it again. Honestly, I think I want to do it again. It'd be fun.
SPEAKER_01I've got mixed feelings about the spawn movie. I love John Legguizamo. I think John Leguizamo was great in that film. The story was ridiculous. And the whole thing about the guy with the with the was it a detonator or something attached to his pacemaker?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. That was ridiculous. That was just kind of ridiculous. Like, what happens if the guy gets in a car accident? Like shit. You know? It doesn't make any fucking sense. It doesn't make any sense at all, man. But, anyways. Okay, well, we've come to the part of the program that I've been dying to get to because, as everybody knows, I am not a fan of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. I'm just not. I think Brie Larson is great, and I loved her in community. I thought she was amazing. But as far as being Captain Marvel, the Captain Marvel that she's given us just isn't the Carol Danvers that I know. Right? You know, I've read a lot of Avengers Disassembled, a lot of Avengers comics. You know, I've seen her transition from Miss Marvel to Captain Marvel. Miss Marvel and Captain Marvel have amazing personalities. They're optimistic, they're fun, they joke around quite a lot. Brie Larson plays this character with such a straight face and a straight disposition. Like she's on an episode of the fucking office.
SPEAKER_03Like it just It's like she's trying to make us see her as someone important. Yes. Like she wants to be taken seriously, and that's just not the role that you were hired for.
SPEAKER_01No, it's not. It's not. And honestly, my hope is that they're gonna get somebody behind the camera and and writing these film, like writing the Captain Marvel franchise films that can bring some sense of levity back to this character. Yeah, just tell her to loosen up. She's so uptight. And like, why does it always have to be about this idea of just overt feminism? Like, just you don't need to talk about this shit, just go out and beat people up. That's how you get people to take you seriously. You just punch them in the fucking face. You don't need to sit there and explain to them why they need to take you seriously. You just do what you need to do, right? And honestly, all the best female superheroes and heroes, they just do what they do, they don't talk about it. Yes. So up for the role of Captain Marvel is quite a few names here, some very recognizable names, some names that instantly just jump out at you, and you're like, Yes, perfect. This is this is someone I could see as being Captain Marvel. So I'll start at the top here. So Natalie Dormer from Game of Thrones, Marjorie Tyrell.
SPEAKER_03Yes, for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I definitely think she could have done an amazing job as Captain Marvel. However, though, her look isn't essentially what I think that Carol looks like in the comic books.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, it's it's a bit different, but I think personality-wise, she would bring the quirkiness of Carol Danvers that it's missing.
SPEAKER_01I think that's yeah, I think that's accurate. I think that is definitely accurate.
SPEAKER_02I think she could pull off that like Mohawk kind of look. I think Taco just loves Mohawks.
SPEAKER_01I like Mohawks on Girls, man. Dude, Mohawks on Girls is amazing.
SPEAKER_02She has like a haircut where like half her size is like cut off or shaved. I think she pulls that off in whatever movie. I think the Hunger Games it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she did. She did that in the Hunger Games, yeah. And she definitely pulled it off for sure. She looked very good with that. And keep in mind, she's also in Captain America, the first Avenger. She plays the first girl that tries to like kiss Steve. Right? Yeah, and Peggy almost shot him over it. Yes, he almost gets shot over it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And honestly, that look for Natalie Dormer works. That could have been the Captain Marvel look for sure. You know, if he introduced her in like the 40s, and like, you know, you wanted to kind of get crazy and be like, okay, so we're gonna bring Captain Marvel into the 30s or 40s. That would be just that whole Captain Marvel bombshell look. Like, that would be the bombshell look. I'd be pretty badass. I think that would be pretty awesome. Yeah, I would definitely give Nally Dormer a run at Captain Marvel. I think she'd be great. Rebecca Ferguson. Now, I'm not too familiar with her work, but I know she's gonna be in Dune. And she was a Mission Impossible 8. I'm not terribly familiar with her, but I don't know. She doesn't jump out at me as like a good Captain Marvel, she doesn't look the role of Carol Danvers. However, though, I don't know. You know, maybe there was something there that um I've never seen her work. Have you guys seen any of her work?
SPEAKER_03I mean, I've seen her in Mission Impossible Fallout. She's okay, but she wasn't very memorable in those movies for me to really pinpoint if she could have played uh Cather Marvel or not. Okay, I'm on the fence with her.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, it's funny that Jeff said that because I know I seen her in Mission Impossible, I just don't remember her in Mission Impossible.
SPEAKER_03Like, like, you know, I could picture her in the movie, but I don't really remember like she played the she played like a she was like a double agent or trip double agent that like was helping Tom Cruise and then not helping him, but then helping him again. It was really weird.
SPEAKER_01And then of course, Emily Blunt is on this list. I think they've tried to cast Emily Blunt in every role for a female possible. They're just like, hey, do you want you want this? No, okay. What about this one? Oh no, okay. Um, how about this one? You know, I like Emily Blunt. I think she's insanely talented, definitely a diverse actor with a lot of um a lot of tools in her in her toolkit, but I just don't see her as Sue Storm, you know, but I also don't see her as Captain Marvel either. Like it's just not a fit for me. I know you like this idea, right, Jeff? You like this idea of Emily Blunt.
SPEAKER_03I do, but like it's more because I like her as an actress and I think she could kill it, but I'm more of because of a biased opinion on this, not because I think she's like the perfect fit or anything like that.
SPEAKER_02So like uh Edge of Tomorrow, like I feel like that's like you know, the character she played in that. I feel like she could bring a little bit of that into the Carol Danzer role.
SPEAKER_03Oh, she would definitely bring badassy to the Carol Danvers role.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But would she bring the quirkiness and like the playfulness? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. And um, it's just it's also funny. I feel like we should give her a nickname, like you know, like it's too good to be in the MCU over here because they're always like trying to cast her, and she's just like declining roles or something, like you know. Like, I don't know. Like, I wonder when is she gonna appear in the MCU? Because obviously she can make money off it, right?
SPEAKER_01Like, yeah, no, and she's part of the Disney family, she is Mary Poppins. Maybe that's a conflict for her now, too. Maybe they're just like kids see you as Mary Poppins. Don't know if they want, you know, I don't know if we want the world to see you blasting energy out of your fist and uh beating the crap out of everybody. So moving on, this one I really like because I know her from Handmaid's Tale. I think she's a great actress. I can't take the role that she plays in Handmaid's Tale and apply it to Captain Marvel, though. It's definitely not a fit. So this woman's name is Yvonne Strahovsky. She plays the commander's wife in the Handmaid's Tale. Great show if you haven't watched it. It is an incredible series. Uh Elizabeth Olsen is amazing in it, and uh, they got so many great actors in that show, Joseph Fines, and um I could definitely she got the look, and I think she could do it. Yeah, she got the look, but I haven't seen her in anything where I could say that she has the range that that Carol Danvers would need. Like, could she bring that personality to the role? Right? I'm not saying that the only way that we can figure this out is by looking at her one role in the hands in you know, in the handmaid's tale.
SPEAKER_03She's voice acted as well as Batwoman for Batman Bad Blood already. So she's got her like superhero thing. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_03She plays Kat Kane.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I didn't know that. Interesting.
SPEAKER_03Yep. In Bad Blood, she plays she voices Kat Kane. And she was also in Chuck for like 90 90 plus episodes.
SPEAKER_01Right. I never watched Chuck. I never watched Chuck. How was she in Chuck, Jeff?
SPEAKER_03Uh, she was awesome, she was quirky, and I think she was fun. I think she could have played Carol Danvers pretty well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, cool. Yeah, okay. That sounds dope. And she she was also in Dexter.
SPEAKER_03I think she was uh Yeah, she was in for like uh one season.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Last season?
SPEAKER_03I think it was was it the last season? No, it wasn't last season.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't it the crazy, crazy girl.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think it was in the mid, like near the end. Like was that like the third or third last or second last season?
SPEAKER_02No, she's the one he he ends up giving his kids off.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And in the last episode. Like, yeah, she ends up like, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so last but not least, definitely not least, Katie Sakkoff. Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica Fame, Katie Sakkoff from the Ereverse. As much as she doesn't really physically resemble Carol Danvers, I think she could have killed this role.
SPEAKER_03Definitely has the physique and like the commanding presence for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. And plus, she's you know, she's played a pilot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_01Right. She's played a fighter pilot, she knows the mentality, she knows the you know, she knows the military protocols. I think she could have been great. I really think she could have knocked this role out of the park. I think it would have been a game changer for her, you know, if she had the opportunity to play this role, and plus I think she would have played really well off of the characters that we did get in uh in the first Captain Marvel movie, as well as some of the characters that we have coming up. I don't know. I'm a big fan of this idea. What do you guys think? Katie Saka?
SPEAKER_03I definitely can see that 100%.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. I could see, especially after her appearance in like the Mandalorian. I do think she's probably a little old. Yeah, I do think she's a little maybe a little too old, but I don't think it'd be mad at that point, right?
SPEAKER_03Maybe she could be like a more mature little bit of makeup here and there, and then it'd be fine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Did you ever watch Battlestar? Did you ever see her in Battlestar Galactica?
SPEAKER_02No, I didn't, but my uncle, my uncle loves the show and he always talks about it. And uh, I would watch a little bit of it, but I never really got into it.
SPEAKER_03Does that make you feel old? He said his uncle.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it kind of makes me feel a little bit old. No, no, don't feel too old. My uncle. My uncle showed me like everything since I was like three. He showed me South Park before I was like in grade, like when I was in grade three.
SPEAKER_01Wow, I love South Park. South Park is the greatest thing ever.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I love it too. I grew up on it.
SPEAKER_01So South Park's my religion, dude. That's literally my religion. Yeah. You haven't watched Battle Star, dude. I gotta tell you, man, you really have to sit down and watch Battlestar. Battlestar is one of the most well-written series, it's intelligent, it's introspective, it deals with so many different ideas and so many different types of people and characters. It's just fantastic. It really is one of the better written series of the last like 20 to 25 years. It's fantastic, dude. You really gotta watch that series, telling you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I definitely will. I suppose you have to die. Yeah, I got it.
SPEAKER_03It's not like absurdly long either, too. 74 episodes is pretty easy to like. I haven't seen it since like 2012. I'm up for a rewatch for sure.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I re-watch it probably every couple years. Um, I think I've seen it about five times through. Yeah, it's definitely on top of my list of favorites.
SPEAKER_03When I used to work at Sony, my boss, my manager was and I were watched all the time, so we'd play it on all the TVs in the display room. So you'd have like 15 TVs just playing Battlestar. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Before we pick who we because this is really the only big roster, and when we get a big roster, you know, we want to choose who we would cast other than the person who's in the role. Before we do that, though, are there any names that come to mind that you guys would have loved to see play Captain Marvel?
SPEAKER_03What's her name from uh community again? Bree. Alison Bree. Allison Bree, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Allison Bree? You want to see Allison Bree play Captain Marvel. Wow. Okay. Yeah, I think she could have been cool as Captain Marvel. Uh, they would have definitely would have blonded her up, but um, I don't think that's an issue.
SPEAKER_03I mean, she probably would have taken it, but I think she's got the look, she's got like the quirkiness, the funniness, the playfulness. I I honestly think she could have killed it.
SPEAKER_01I think she could have been really good in that role for sure, too. I think that she's she's dynamic. I've seen her in a lot of different roles. She just had that series, that wrestling series, glow. Yep. You really get to see how far she can go with what she's able to do as far as bringing these characters to life. We've seen her in Mad Men, which she was brilliant in. Uh, yeah, no, I I really like this idea about Allison Bree playing uh playing Captain Marvel.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's it's funny that Jeff brings Allison Bree from Community because I was thinking Gillian Jacobs from Community.
SPEAKER_01I think I I could see Gillian Jacobs from Community as well. I think she's she's like I said she's like Gillian Jacobs.
SPEAKER_02She's definitely my favorite blonde, and I could I love seeing her. She's uh she's an amazing actress, and she definitely has uh some uh a unique sense of humor that she brings to the screen too.
SPEAKER_01What do you think of her TV series, Love? Did you see it? Oh yeah, I watched it.
SPEAKER_02I it was so awesome. Hilarious, hilarious. It's pretty good, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the the awkward funniness.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, yeah, she really did a good job, and she played, yeah, she really she really played a good character.
SPEAKER_01Like so, if I was gonna throw another hat into the ring, it would definitely be Katherine Winnick, 100%. Katherine Winnick. Like, I struggle between Catherine Catherine Winnick and Charlie's Thiron, but more Katherine Winnick now. Because I think that not only does she have the look, but she's got the physicality, and I really think that well to well, to be honest with you, Lagatha really didn't have a lot of moments of levity in the Viking series for sure. But I get the feeling that Katherine Winnick is someone that could summon that you know, summon the energy and you know, summon the disposition to be able to give that part of the character that dimension, you know. I really feel like she could do that. So I would love to see Kathryn Winnick as Captain Marvel. That would be that would be an ideal fit for me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay, I can see that for sure.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so out of the out of the five, Katie Sakoff, Ferguson, Emily Blunt, Dormer, and who am I missing?
SPEAKER_03Yvonne.
SPEAKER_01Yvonne Strahofsky. Who are you guys picking?
SPEAKER_03Probably Natalie Dormer.
SPEAKER_01Natalie Dormer? Yeah, 100%. I'm going the same way. I'm going with Yvonne Strahovsky. And Jeff, it's basically on what you said. Because all I've seen her as is as the commander's wife in Handmaid's Tale. She's pretty fucking terrifying. And she's dark and stoic. If she's done comedy like Chuck in the past and can really call upon what's needed to generate levity for this character, then I'm definitely on board with that idea because I think Yvonne is a perfect, perfect physical match for the Carol Danvers uh in my headcanon. So yeah. All right, guys. Well, listen, that is a wrap on almost MCU Heroes entirely. This was part three. This is the conclusion. I'm thinking about coming back with another show somewhat similar to this. I've been doing some research, some of the real people that have inspired the creation of some of our favorite Marvel characters. And there's some really wacky shit behind some of the inspirations to some of our favorite characters. And I really want to dive into that because I think it'd be a hilarious conversation. So maybe we will explore that. But till then, we are going to leave you here. Thank you so much for joining us. Please, if you get a chance, jump over to Stitcher, Podchaser, or Apple Podcasts and drop us a review. We would really appreciate it. And if you have any loved ones or friends who geek out as hard as you do, please send them a link to our show. Send them an episode, get them to check it out, hashtag spread the nerd. That would be amazing. We really appreciate all the love, all the support to be continued. I'm Frank McGuire. I'm Jeff Mac. Peace.
