040: I am so excited to have Casey Waugh on the podcast today. She’s an Occupational Therapist and known in my special needs mom circle for her inspiring reel from a couple months ago.  It has made so many of us feel seen and recognized during these hardships we endure with our children.

Casey has been a foster mom to a special needs child and grew up with a special needs brother.   We discuss the details and often complications with IEP meetings. She shares how she uses these experiences along with her professional experiences as an OT to connect with parents and be a better partner to parents in these circumstances.

We talk about play and parents. I wanted Casey’s advice on how to better connect and sustain imaginative play.  She says even 10 minutes of quality time on the floor is more worthwhile than an extended time that isn’t actually connected.

Casey wants to tell parents they are the biggest advocates for their children.  And even when it’s hard to speak up in a meeting, your voice is essentially your child’s voice.  It will help them be their own advocates in the future.
