Emma: You are listening to Dialogue Frog’s short English conversations. Today we’re joined by Rachel and we’re going to talk about making crafts.
Rachel: Oh, I love crafts.
Emma: Have you made any crafts recently?
Rachel: No I haven’t. I’ve been kind of off of it recently with work and everything.
Emma: Yeah. It takes up quite a bit of time, doesn’t it?
Rachel: It does, depending on the project and your skill, what you’re trying to make.
Emma: So how do you decide on making project?
Rachel: Um, I don’t know. Just kind of, I get an idea in my brain and I just kind of go from there. Or when I’m-I’m out doing my thing I’ll see different inspirations or I’ll see other crafters and I’ll draw inspiration from that.
Emma: Uh, do you use a lot of like online media as your inspiration or just you have to be in the store and you kind of put things together on the spot?
Rachel: Hm, uh, I think it’s a mixture. A fifty-fifty mixture. The internet’s definitely a good place to-its an easy resource, as I’m just lounging or eating lunch I look on the internet and I just kind of put it in the back of my brain to make later.
Emma: What kinds of crafts do you make?
Rachel: I really like to sew and paint and I also like making jewelry.
Emma: What have you done the most of recently?
Rachel: Um, probably sewing. Just ‘cause it’s easy to get into it and step away from. Just do a few seams and put the sewing machine in the corner and just kind of walk away.
Emma: Oh really? How-how old were you when you started sewing?
Rachel: I think I was around 8 or 9. I was pretty young.
Emma: That’s pretty young.
Rachel: Just old enough to have control of all of my motor skills and-
Emma: I hope so, at the age of 8.
Rachel: Yeah, and be able to kind of piece things together and know what I wanted the finished project to look like.
Emma: And you’ve been sewing since then-
Rachel: Mm-hm.
Emma: -on and off.
Rachel: Yep, made a bunch of dresses and I like to take old worn out clothes and turn them into something new.
Emma: Would you call that upcycling?
Rachel: I would call that up-I think a lot of people would call that upcycling. Its kind of a popular thing to do and its pretty frugal. It saves you money.
Emma: That’s true. Alright. We’ve talked quite a bit about sewing today. Uh, thank you for joining us today, Rachel. And we’ll see everyone next time on the next episode of Dialogue Frog.
