Hello and welcome to all things Travel. Disney World offers a variety of nighttime events, entertainment, and experiences, and it might be overwhelming to choose which option fits into your trip. Today we're gonna break down which events, entertainment, and experiences we recommend and how to best fit them into your next Disney vacation.

Ryan

This A name with travel advisors, Ryan and Julie. I'm your travel professor teaching you everything you need to know to have a magical vacation, and she's a Disney loving Maryland mom of three and a specialist in family travel. And together we are the co-owners of Wonder and Beyond Travel, we're discussing incredible destinations, top vacation tips, or sharing personal stories, it's always all things travel. Alright, Julie. So when we first started taking our families to Walt Disney World, we had littles and you still do. So a lot of this stuff, to be honest, on my first trips I didn't even really know existed. Right? I.

Julie

Exactly. And I definitely have that conversation with all of my clients before they go. I write them their custom touring plans. And one of the questions I ask before doing that is, do you plan to see the nighttime entertainment? Because for my family it usually doesn't work.

Ryan

yeah, and, and sometimes especially with, with lower kids is kind of best laid plans.

Julie

Yeah, and it's like maybe we pick one.

Ryan

Yeah. Yeah. A absolutely. Now I will say as my kids got older, things like firework shows and dessert parties and all that kind of stuff that we're gonna talk about today became highlights of the trips.

Julie

Absolutely.

Ryan

a time and place for these, and I know, Jasmine and I are gonna go. Next Christmas and we've already talked about, what are the nighttime events that we wanna make sure that we

Julie

Yeah.

Ryan

and, you know, for meeting her last summer, she is park open to park close.

Julie

Yeah. Good luck.

Ryan

it was morning, afternoon, and evening events when it came to Walt Disney World.

Julie

I just, whenever I think about that, I always picture you in the rocking chair in Magic Kingdom in front of Liberty Tree Tavern.

Ryan

I am not that funny duddy. But before we get into all of the nighttime adventures at Walt Disney World, I wanna remind folks, if you did not to last week's episode, we talked all about the best of Europe, and we gave our suggestions based on your travel type.

Julie

I wanted to start this episode out by talking about the entertainment and the events that are included with your stay. there are a lot of add-ons that you can do to plus up your trip, but let's start with the things that are already there that you don't need to pay anything extra for. And of course, I wanna start in the Magic Kingdom. So the Magic Kingdom has two main nighttime events. Currently the Disney Starlight Dream, the Night Away parade. And that's new. It just started in 2025 and it reminds me a lot of Main Street electrical parade. I loved the parade when I tell my clients, like, if you're gonna pick one nighttime event, this is the one to pick.

Ryan

I agree. we were both there when it first kind of started this, summer

Julie

Mm-hmm.

Ryan

absolutely loved it. I did not see the earlier nighttime parades of Walt Disney World. So this is my first, experience with them and they were amazing.

Julie

Yeah, it's really great. so depending on the day, you wanna make sure you're checking your app because there could be, an earlier parade and a later parade, or there just might be one time parade. and the parade can go different routes depending on what time you're seeing it. So that's something to keep in mind. I think that this event is for everyone. It's early enough in the evening. It's usually around eight o'clock that, the kids are still awake, they're still going, right, and then we plan to leave after how to build it into the itinerary. I think of this two different ways. I think that if you're not planning to stay for the fireworks and the Castle show, you grab a spot to watch the parade in Frontier Land at least 45 minutes prior to parade start. If you do plan to stay for the fireworks, you wanna get a spot on Main Street about 90 minutes before the parade. And I know that sounds really far in advance, but every time that I've been there for this parade recently, main Street has hit capacity an hour before the parade starts. once you find your spot, then you go get snacks. Somebody stays, somebody else goes, gets snacks, and I like to say, go to Sleepy Hollow four. You know that Waffle Yum. Main street ice cream parlor, the main street bakery, Casey's Corner. If you're like hungry and want some like real food, that's not just snacks or over to the confectionary for that, make your own popcorn section. So happily ever After is not the same thing as Disney Starlight. And this is also something that's a little confusing for clients. They see all these fancy Disney names, but they're like, what the heck is that? So this is the nighttime Spectacular. As Disney likes to say, with fireworks. It's essentially a firework show with projections on the castle. the happily Ever After song is playing, you're probably gonna cry during the song if you like Disney at all. It's really. Such a great experience.

Ryan

It, it's such a good show

Julie

Yeah.

Ryan

you say

Julie

You say

Ryan

show

Julie

firework.

Ryan

I say it's a projection show with fireworks

Julie

Yes. that's true.

Ryan

are unlike anything you're gonna see anywhere else.

Julie

Yeah, and the scenes on the castle, they transition through so many Disney movies, new movies, and nostalgic movies. So it's just really lovely to see how they blend those movies and they're pulling the music from the, movies and you just need a box of tissues. I do think that it could be for everyone, but as we mentioned earlier with little ones, I kind of think like four and up is a little better, maybe even a little older than that, just because it's timing. It tends to be closer to nine 30 ish, nine o'clock, depending on when the park closes and those fireworks are loud. I know my kids are not a fan of fireworks.

Ryan

And after the show is over there are people everywhere. So if,

Julie

Yeah.

Ryan

gonna bother your kids, may not be the right show for you.

Julie

For your kids or you? I mean, I feel stressed out, so actually I like to say that if you're gonna watch the show, but not the parade, the spot that I like to go to is kind of, if you're looking at the castle. The Plaza Restaurant is behind you and you're in between the Plaza Restaurant and the bathrooms at Tamar Land Terrace. And there's a couple sections there that they tape off the ground. And if you can be the person that gets that section, it is a great spot because usually Magic can go, will open the second exit, this little back streete, and you can scoot right out there and it's great. Just a couple things to keep in mind. You can arrive a little bit later for the, fireworks if you don't wanna see the parade or if the parade is not a priority for you. But know that after that parade comes down, main street, people are filling in the hub in front of the castle, and it does. Get crowded quickly. Please don't put your kid on your shoulders. If you're in the middle of Main Street, and if there's two shows, go to the later one. If you, don't have younger kids, it's gonna be a lot less crowded,

Ryan

let's talk about Epcot Julie.

Julie

Mm-hmm.

Ryan

Epcot has Luminous, which is

Julie

Which is their.

Ryan

and projection show around the world, showcase Lagoon. And again, it pulls on your heartstrings. It's got classic

Julie

Classic music, classic.

Ryan

Disney scenes. And it, the show focuses on bringing everybody together through. Various stories and music. Who's it for? It's really

Julie

it's really for everyone, but it's

Ryan

at

Julie

at closing or close to,

Ryan

So it's

Julie

so it's really.

Ryan

for families with kids over five, how to build it into your itinerary. Really. You can watch it from anywhere. Um. like a

Julie

I like

Ryan

in the UK down by the Yorkshire Fish and Chip Shop. I also think a good way to build this in, to be honest, is if you have a park hop

Julie

ticket.

Ryan

at the Epcot resorts, you can do this multiple nights go to another park during the day, have some dinner at your resort or in Epcot World showcase, and then go to the show, and then you are right there by home.

Julie

It's definitely like the most relaxed viewing of the nighttime shows.

Ryan

it very much is. Yeah. So Spaceship Earth also has projections that, they're gonna show at night. Really cool, really interesting. if you're there after dark, you're gonna start to see it. So you don't have to build it into your itinerary. You just have to take a moment to stop and enjoy it.

Julie

I just think it's so pretty. It's so pretty to see all the colors on there. All right. Next up is Hollywood Studios, and the show here is Fmic. It is a lagoon, an island show in the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater, which is kind of by tower terror, and it's near the beauty and the beach show. It showcases the imagination of sorcerer Mickey. You kind of enter his dreams and you're immersed in this tale of good versus evil. I will say my personal recommendation are, you know, it's not for little kids. It's a long show, it's 30 minutes. There are a lot of villains. There's fire, there's a lot going on. So I know with the ages of my kids, it would not be a successful. To the evening. There's a couple ways that you can see the show. You can purchase a Fantasma dining package and that will tell you exactly which show you're going to. Some nights, there's two showings of it, so when you purchase your dining package, it would say first show or second show, and you can do that at fifties Primetime Cafe, Hollywood and Vine, the Sci-fi Dine-in Theater or Hollywood and Vine. Essentially that dining package guarantees seating for you, or you can just arrive, you know, at least 15 minutes before showtime and find a seat. The theater is really big.

Ryan

Then over at Disney's Animal Kingdom, they don't really have a nighttime show because they have the animals there. But one thing they do have is kind of like Spaceship Earth. They have the Tree of Life awakening. So this is, colorful projections onto the tree of life, celebrating animal kingdom. once it gets dark, it occurs every 10 minutes until the park closes. And for an honorable mention take the time to go over to Avatar and see the bioluminescent. Designs there so you can really get some interesting things without a show at the Animal Kingdom.

Julie

Okay, so last thing to talk about with when we're thinking about the evenings in Walt Disney World and things that are included, these are extended evening hours. You only have access to the extended evening hours if you're at a deluxe resort. Or a couple others, and I'll mention those in a minute. So these are late night hours at the park, and you'll experience low crowds, limited wait times. They can be at any park depending on the season. So for example, in the Christmas season when there's parties at Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom, the extended evening hours aren't gonna really occur as much at those parks. And you just wanna check the park hours for your stay, and that's where you'll know which park is having extended evening hours. As I briefly touched on, the extended evening hours are only for Deluxe resort guests. Guests at Walt Disney World, Swan Dolphin and Swan Reserve Hotels and the Shades of Green on Walt Disney World Property. I think it's really great for somebody, you know, if you wanna go do a date night or if you're having a multi-gen trip and grandparents can hang out with the kids. or for anyone really with families, with kids, you know, maybe eight to 10 are up because these are late. Some of them go till midnight or one in the morning.

Ryan

Yeah, that they are. They are really great.

Julie

if you do think you might wanna do extended evening hours during your trip, I would say consider doing a park hopper so that way you can go to one park during the day and then be able to experience those extended evening hours. If you don't have a park hopper, you'd have to go to that same park that day as well. And I also recommend building in a midday break for these days. you're not gonna have to feel rushed during the day to get everything done, because in the evening a lot of things are gonna be a walk-on. just something to consider. Not all the attractions are gonna be available during the extended evening hours. So, for example, at Animal Kingdom, like the walking trails are closed, and at Hollywood Studios rise, the resistance isn't open. and that can fluctuate. So just something to keep in mind. And you do need valid park admission. It's not like you're staying at the deluxe resort. You can just go no matter what. You do need to have a park ticket.

Ryan

So before we talk about some of the things that you can add to your vacation, let's talk about where in the world is wonder and beyond travel. Julie,

Julie

I wanna highlight a family that I have going on their very first Disney cruise. Over spring break. So they are going on the treasure on the Eastern Caribbean itinerary, which just sounds like a dream. And this is like a mom and her two adult daughters. I love that they travel together and they take this time out, right? They're teachers, so, you know, spring break is a great time for them to travel. They tend to do some little Disney world trips throughout the year. They used to be real into Universal when they first started working with me, but I have converted them full on to Disney, and I think after this trip they're going to be full on into Disney Cruise line.

Ryan

well, we love celebrating where our clients are headed, and that sounds like an amazing trip, Julie. so let's talk about a few of the things that you can add on for a cost, to really celebrate these nighttime activities. And the first, This used to be, like I said, when my kids got a little older. This was a family obsession. We have done, fireworks, dessert parties multiple times at Magic Kingdom. at Hollywood Studios, we did a Star Wars one. We

Julie

Oh, that sounds cool.

Ryan

themed one. and Epcot. And in fact, that one there, it was raining. So our dessert portion was actually upstairs in the frozen ride. So that was really, really cool. So these are paid private events within the theme parks, Epcot and Magic Kingdom with desserts before

Julie

Or

Ryan

the nighttime entertainment. So pre-party, there's treats, drinks at tomorrow and terrace, and then you're escorted to the plaza garden where you have a, a taped off

Julie

stop sharing

Ryan

the fireworks. So then there's also one where you actually have the sweets and treats at Tomorrowland Terrace, and then you stay there. it doesn't have the best view, but I would say it's the most, People friendly, spot to sit where you're not, you know, with a lot of other people post party you have at the Plaza Garden, you're viewing, um, or you have Plaza

Julie

Closet garden.

Ryan

and then you have your treats and drinks after the tomorrow and Terrace. And when we say treats and and drinks, we're talking about. alcoholic drinks if you want, or specialty drinks. We're talking about charcuterie boards. We're talking about many different types of desserts, sometimes even Sunday bars. So a cheeseburger, egg rolls. I mean, these are really good parties.

Julie

Yeah, it's absolutely worth the cost if you wanna guarantee seeing the fireworks and you don't wanna have to get there, an hour and a half in advance. I do wanna note that you'll probably miss Disney Starlight to do one of these parties, or at least not have a great spot.

Ryan

Yes, that that is absolutely true. But if you have not done this and you have gone to the fireworks, before and you're looking for something a little extra, special, I think this is a really good thing to do. A couple

Julie

Couple things over.

Ryan

that you may want to add onto your trip. The Rose and Crown has a fireworks dining package where after you check in, you'll be seated outside on the patio. you can also book this with your dining reservation. 60 days out. Now, I will say

Julie

Ill say

Ryan

spot to watch the show is right next to it, and that doesn't cost any money, but obviously you're fighting with more crowds there. And

Julie

right.

Ryan

new with the, with the new, um, bar area by Spaceship Earth. So this is the Geo 82 fireworks experience, and this is for guests who are 21 or up it includes champagne that's specially selected by SOM at Walt Disney World, or event specific cocktails. you're gonna have access to a Tasty Tower of Savory light bites and also a selection of sweet treats. So again, you've got your drinks, you've got your appetizers, you've got your desserts. why not? And just a reminder,

Julie

are

Ryan

bookable 60 days out at midnight. So not at the normal 6:00 AM but at midnight. you may want to get on and book this before you do your advanced

Julie

Yeah, especially those Magic Kingdom dessert parties. They book up fairly quickly.

Ryan

All right, add on some after hours options. Why

Julie

Yeah, so the after hours events are different than the extended evening hours. The after hours events are a separately ticketed event for three hours of park time at a select park. It includes select attractions and snacks, things like popcorn, mickey bars, and bottled beverages, and you can usually enter the park around. Seven, and then it will go until like midnight or so. So it says three hours, but you usually can arrive early. It's just that that three hour mark begins when the day guests have to leave. These after hours events are currently only going on at Magic Kingdom Hollywood Studios and Epcot. So it, it just kind of fluctuates throughout the year. And Magic Kingdom does include a viewing of Disney Enchantment, which is the former fireworks and nighttime show. So you could kind of go see Disney Star Lights, see happily ever after and see Disney Enchantment. So this is definitely for families with older kids because it is such a later event and. It is, you know, it definitely has a cost associated with it, but the wait times are non-existent for the attractions a really great way to get in a lot of attractions. Um, and you do book this 60 days in advance at midnight as well. I.

Ryan

So an event that is returning soon June through September of this year is Disney's H2O Glow after hours at

Julie

Why

Ryan

Lagoon. if are a waterpark looking for something specifically unique to do in the evening, this event is returning on select nights

Julie

don't really have a lot yet, but we

Ryan

that essentially there's dance parties, there's special snacks, some of the open. So this is a really fun way to experience the waterpark in a different

Julie

And then a couple things over at the resorts. So the big one here are the fireworks cruises, which you can charter a private watercraft from or for happily ever after or luminous. And it's great for like if you're really celebrating like a milestone or you have a larger group. So if you have 10 people, this is a pretty affordable option. this is another one that you have to call to book 60 days in advance. Most of the other ones, you can do it online, but this is a specifically call it into book. Another option at the resorts that's an add-on is celebration at the top. And this is at California Grill at the Contemporary. you get sushi small bites and couple of California grills featured dishes. As well as desserts. if you're over 21, you also can enjoy a complimentary bar, and then you head out when the fireworks start, you head out to a private observation deck and they pipe the music in. It's a really lovely experience. This is another one that you book 60 days in advance at midnight, and it's probably really more geared towards an adult experience. And then just a couple quick, honorable mention type things. If you wanted to go see the fireworks in a different way, or maybe not be in the parks to see them, you could head over to the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian Resort and see the Magic Kingdom fireworks. You can also see some fireworks from inside your room. So if you book at the Contemporary Wilderness Resort, yacht Beach Club. You can see the fireworks from inside some of your rooms or right out on, you know, your balconies. If you are dining at Toppino at the Riviera, which is at the top of the resort, you can see fireworks there. And if you're dining at Toledo at the top of Coronado, you can also see fireworks. So a lot of different ways to kind of include these nighttime experiences in your trip. Ryan, do you have any, I know you mentioned those dessert parties and maybe you're kind of thinking about one coming up if you had to pick a dessert party, are you picking Epcot or are you picking Magic Kingdom?

Ryan

I'm picking Magic Kingdom because I think. It's more bang for your buck for what you're getting as far as a

Julie

Yeah.

Ryan

space, to view the fireworks because there's a lot of people there and it can get a little hairy. So I think that's the better option because Epcot. You can kind of

Julie

Yeah.

Ryan

dessert party, right? Because of the can get a little bit of this, you can get a little bit of that, and there's a lot of places you can choose to see, the show and a really good location. So I think Magic Kingdom's the

Julie

Yeah, I would agree with that for sure. I can't wait to be able to do a fireworks to start party again at Magic Kingdom and actually stay for the fireworks.

Ryan
