I first met Utu way back in 2005 at a Canadian festival. We've probably bumped into each other at least once a year ever since then. I can't remember if I heard the Dragon Ritual Drummers during that adventure or not, but I most certainly heard them the next year, and the next, and the next! Honestly, the Dragon Ritual Drummers are one of my favorite magickal musical groups, and when they are playing and I'm around it's always a "can't miss!"
I picked up Utu's book Conjuring Harriet "Mama Moses" Tubman and the Spirits of the Underground Railroad and found myself moved to tears in a few places while reading it. Utu is as good a writer as he is a drummer, and that's saying something! The only downside to us hanging out via podcast, is that we won't be able to have one of our usual "hair offs" as we compete for best hair in the Pagan Community.
In this episode we chat about twenty years of the Dragon Ritual Drummers, Utu's book, Pagan festivals, and why Utu still listens to CDs.
