A Southern Story of Youth, Injustice, and Doing Right
Your Lot and Parcel
His debut novel unfolds in the rugged beauty of North Carolina’s Appalachia, where a summer meant for escape turns into a harrowing fight for survival. After a schoolyard altercation, twelve-year-old Boyd is sent to his grandfather’s farm, expected to learn discipline through challenging work. But Boyd has other ideas. Teaming up with his loyal friend Roger, he sets out to uncover the mysteries of an abandoned trestle and a hidden cave deep in the woods.
Their adventure is shadowed by danger at every turn—Boyd’s strict and unyielding grandfather, Roger’s violent father, a corrupt sheriff, and a menacing cougar that prowls the mountains. As adults and institutions are meant to protect them instead threaten their safety, Boyd is forced to make impossible choices, risking everything to shield Roger from harm.
When the boys finally reach their secret cave, Boyd learns that even victory over darkness comes with its own cost.
