Show Notes

Light is where you’ll find truth; truth is where you’ll find color.

Color is where you’ll find God.

Color is God.

It’s his love for you.

Light is what makes color happen.

Color is a product of light and God IS light.

Color speaks of God’s promises. And his attributes, always good. And in considering God’s good ways, how often do you consider “assertiveness” as one of his characteristics?

Assertiveness is defined by Psychology Today as a social skill that relies heavily on effective communication while simultaneously respecting the thoughts and wishes of others. People who are assertive clearly and respectfully communicate their wants, needs, positions, and boundaries to others.

Wikipedia defines assertiveness as a method of critical thinking where an individual speaks up in defense of their views or in light of erroneous information.

Have you ever really dropped down there to consider assertiveness as critical thinking?

Last week my daughter Emily and I addressed the topic of boundary setting.

In this episode, the Always Real Emily is back with me for the rightness of asssertivness.

Assertiveness goes hand-in-hand with the beautifulness of boundary setting.

Consider this PART 2.

Christians are not only allowed to be assertive, we're encouraged to be. In the right way, of course.

Assertive Christians want to live lives in agreement with their faith and calling to be God’s people.

This is a lot easier said than done.

Emily is a graphic and interior designer, artist, and Bible scholar. (And I love this photo of her on a swing above our hometown, San Diego recently--which is why I also use a photo of me on Mt. Soledad in San Diego, taken by my daughter Grace in March of this year.:-))

The book we referenced is SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE: How to be an Assertive Christian by Ruth N. Koch & Kenneth C. Haugk.

What we say here is not in conflict with our core values, as summed up this way:

"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." (Philippians 2:3- NKJV)
