Healing Waters - Day 21
Ezekiel 47:12
"Along the bank of the river, on this side, and that will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month because their waters flow from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be food and their leaves for medicine."
For the last 20 days, I have highlighted promises from the Word of God that express the Lord's desire to heal, help, and strengthen you. Today, our primary verse is different, and it discusses the healing and medicine that should flow from Christ-followers to others. In reading Ezekiel 47:12, I understand that Christ-followers represent trees, and on each side of the riverbank, all kinds of trees grow; they bear fruit, which provides nourishment and strength to those in need. This verse mentions diversity and highlights that even the leaves of these trees have healing properties. The scripture also indicates what makes it possible for these trees to bear fruit worthy of eating, it says, "because their waters flow from the sanctuary." The water source stems from the sanctuary; the place where God abides; lives, and dwells. Revelations 22:1 confirms the same. It says, "And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and the lamb."
My friend, Jesus, is the source of the living water (John 4:10), and as you and I spend time in the presence of God, communing with Him in prayer and worship, the crystal clear, pure waters of life will cause growth and fruitfulness in our lives.
Trees also need sunlight & nutrients, good soil (a medium or place to grow) and Cell respiration, the ability to expunge waste. When you and I spend time in God's word, we position ourselves to receive clear direction and enlightenment. The Word of God will shine a light on our path and gives us personal revelation regarding His plans and purpose.
Psalm 119:105 – Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Ephesians 1:17 – That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
One of the essential factors in the growth and fruit-producing process of a tree is the soil. The condition of the soil and where the tree is planted matters. In our primary scriptures today, the trees are planted along the bank of the river, in the nutrient-rich soil close to the living waters. The soil or river bank is representative of our hearts. We want hearts that are pliable in the Hands of God, easily influenced by the Lord, not opposite to the gospel and not resistant or rebellious.
Jeremiah 4: 3-4a says, "For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: "Break up your fallow ground. And do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your hearts,"
Ezekiel 36:26 – A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
Hosea 10:12 – Sow to yourselves in righteousness (God's way of doing things), reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground (your hard, stubborn, sinner heart): for it is time to seek the Lord, till he comes and rains righteousness upon you.
The last and vital component to the growth and fruit-producing process of a tree or plant is Cell respiration & the ability to expunge waste. Daily repentance; a constant and conscious turning away for our way and submitting to God and His word and taking ownership of your sin is vital for each believer. Confessing our sins before the Lord and then asking Him to forgive us and cleanse our hearts daily. We must willingly relinquish: laying all of our burdens on the altar and trust God.
I John 1:8-9 – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Ephesians 4:29-32 – Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice; And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Our deeds and efforts as Christians (trees) will have no lasting, life-giving impact on others if these four things are missing in our lives. We must make a conscious and deliberate effort to seek the face of God. My friends, we have been commissioned to impact this world for good and introduce people to our Savior, Jesus Christ. To be ambassadors of healing to the world. Let's get into the presence of God, drink from the living waters of Jesus, and allow the light of His Word to strengthen us, guide us, empower, and cleansing us. Only then will we indeed be called trees, planted by the river that grows and bears edible fruit.
Let's Pray
